They have a variety of classes for beginners and advanced practitioners alike, and at every class I go to they offer modifications or add-ons to poses so that you can really adjust to what your body needs that day. The studio is incredibly clean and beautifully maintained. Walking into the studio puts me at ease immediately. There are also zero judgments at Blackbird. At other studios I felt judged if I couldn't go into a headstand or some other inversion, and there is none of that at Blackbird. It is an encouraging environment, which is so perfect for yoga. The studio also offers workshops outside of the regular classes if you want to delve into your practice a little deeper. Another thing I noticed is how at every class, even if it is the same type of class, it is never exactly the same. There is always variety. I've been practicing yoga for two years now and in the few months that I started at Blackbird I saw a noticeable improvement in my practice. There are poses that I thought I would never be able to do or hold for more than a breath that I now do with ease. It's really amazing. Another great thing about Blackbird, especially for NYC commuters like myself, is that they have evening classes! I'm able to go to work, get home and not have to rush like a crazy person to get to class on time. It's rad. For everything that Blackbird offers, the price is amazing too. Before coming to Blackbird I was hopping around at different studios, trying to find the best fit for me. I had been trying for two years to find a 'home studio'. I knew two minutes into my first class at Blackbird that I found that studio. The classes satisfy both the physical and mental aspects of yoga, the community of staff and other practitioners are some of the nicest people you will meet, and membership doesn't break the bank. I love all the staff they are all very friendly and willing to help you with anything that you may need. They are all educated and trained in what they teach and i feel that to be very important. Its great that they offer a variety of classes from yoga to bootcamp and everything in between. I myself do the kickboxing and bootcamp 4 days a week with an occasionaly yoga class when i have time and i have seen amazing results. Leon is a great trainer and he pushes you to do your best because he wants results!! Ambria's Zogalaties class makes u sweat as well and is great for toning. If that's not the biggest sign and blessing that you in the right place at the right time I don't know what else is! The number of the building is an indicator of being intentional. I discovered Jamie's studio about a year ago and have taken a couple classes whenever I have the free time and have felt so comfortable in each class. Whether it's Jamie herself or another teacher the classes really focus on being present in the moment and connecting with your body. Slow, intentional movements and not pushing your body past what it's willing to do. I recently took yoga and sound bath class taught by Robin and I hope there are more classes like this. I experienced real life ASMR and a new level of meditation. Robin focused on creating sounds with different objects that sounded like different elements. One sounded like rain drops, another sounded like the ocean waves, it was truly a beautiful, grounding and enlightening experience. This was my first time hearing Crystal bowls in person and it was magical. It sounded like frequency music. I have also taken Jamie's 3 week meditation series which was amazing. It was an hour long each week and focused on releasing the stresses of the day and aligning your chakras. Besides the classes being wonderful each time her price point I feel is really affordable. The drop in classes are $25, some 3 week meditation series $40 and her new student pass for a week of yoga is $35! She has other yoga packages available on her website. I look forward to attending each class and leave feeling 1000% better than when I came in. Life can be hard and stressful but it can also be beautiful and soft. I have found that softness and beauty at Jamie's yoga studio and will continue to support her yoga business.
