Found one of the strangest restaurants I have ever eaten at! Yats. I had a taste for some Cajun cooking and found Yats on Yelp. I say strange in a good way. The sign on the door read "Happy Hour $1.00 Domestic Beer"! Who sells beer for $1.00? The 80s are calling, they want their happy hour back. Could not decide on what I wanted so the waiter/bartender got me samples! White chili and chicken curry were both great but I had a taste for gumbo. It was great! So what was strange? They could not run a tab so I had to pre purchase my beer but that was not bad. Even stranger was as soon as I signed the check the food came. I like that kind of strange. The prices were refreshingly low, dinner and two beers, $10.00! The portions could be a bit larger and the plastic silverware and plates could use a bit of improvement but hey who cares if the service is great, the food is good, and the prices low! Gosh, I want to like this so much! I had the chili cheese etouffee with crawfish and honestly....it was just a little too greasy for me. Basically, gravy (with a little crawfish) over white, parboiled rice. I know so many people go crazy for Yats, but I just can't do it. On the flip side, the atmosphere was nice. Everyone is obsessed with Yats. I love Cajun food, so I was pretty excited to try this place. I ordered the Drunken Chicken and it was good -- spicy, but not too much. The bread was delicious. The food just wasn't "wow." I would go back and give it another try if it was in a better location, like Plainfield. read more

Everything is a stew,gumbo,etouffe ,red beans and sausage gruel over rice. Food was barely warned up. Best thing was the bread. $10 a head. Seriously thought it was going to be a Cajun cafe. Staff was luke warm and decor is bare bones. Didn't see anything about breakfast? read more

Cajun and creole at a reasonable price. We give it a 3.5 stars. Only downsides are plastic and styrofoam utensils, plates, and cups, but that is why it is so reasonably price. Wish it had a little more crazy; but overall, we really like this place and will be back often. read more

Friends introduced me to Yats a year ago (one more reason to love them) and I keep going back! So many delicious choices so the half and half is the way to go. My go to combo is the maque choux and chorizo étouffée. I love the contrast of the sweet (maque choux) to the spicy chorizo dish. The buttery Cajun bread makes a delectable, edible utensil to scoop up all of that yumminess! My only wish is that the local FB Page was consistently updated with daily specials so I knew how fast to drive there to grab my faves! read more

Disgusting, horrible, watery, unappealing and unhealthy food is served here. Very surprised the health department hasn't done anything about the restaurant itself is is so dirty and they just have bottles of sauce open in the restaurant! One of my least favorite places around here. read more

Just left there with Carry out. I love the food here. But more importantly I really like the service. The guys behind the counter are always so nice. There is a relaxed feeling that makes it just a great place to go. The ambiance here, the tone, of the restaurant gives it that sweet southern vibe. One of the best parts about living in the Indy area is going to YATZ! A few of the locations that have been franchised out sometimes lack in quality but this location is top notch. The decore is in the typical Naw lens fashion with foregin currency and other memorabilia line the walls. The food is the very definition of creole comfort food. We tried this place out and to be honest I was concerned when I read the menu. I lived in Dallas and we would venture next door to Louisiana for fun trips and work. We have eaten plenty of creole and cajun meals. I have never seen any that included a cream base to all the traditional items. It works though at Yats. We liked what we had but it is far from traditional. read more

Gross gross gross gross. First of all, every 'dish' is some kind of brown slop on a plastic plate. Second, my order was so greasy that every...er... cup of it was more than half oil and/or butter. I'm so glad that Yats has a location in Avon. I've been here numerous times, and the service is always excellent. They are always friendly and patient, especially when I bring people who have never been to a Yats before. The food has been consistently great, except for today - I always order extra bread because it's delicious! The spread they put on it is addicting, but today there was hardly any on it. But every other time I've been here, the food has been great and I will still continue to be a regular fan. read more

My husband and I ate here today and it was so good! I am usually not one to try many new places, but I stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to try it. I'm really glad that I did! They offered free samples for anything that we were curious about and they also give you amazing garlic bread along with your meal. I got the chili cheese étouffée and was very pleased with it! Yats does a great job offering creole food at reasonable pricing. I have tried at least 6 different entrees and been happy with all of them. My personal favorite is the Chorizo Etoufee with chicken. They come with a couple slices of toast with oil. You can also order 2 half portions to make one full entree if you cannot decide. Definitely worth a stop if you are looking for some creole food without breaking the bank! read more

Yats is consistent with every dish it prepares. Simply order at the register, grab a fountain drink or beer and await the Creole! We seem to always order the Vegan Spinich and Mushroom Etouffe, Chili cheese with crayfish or Drunken Chicken. Anything on the blackboard will not disappoint! First time and will be the last. Was impressed until they took our order then whole experience went bad. There was no one but us in the place yet after 40 min no food. Of course I went up to find out. Guess they "lost" our order. When I asked just to refund our money I had to ask 3 times before they gave me the correct amount. As a native New Orleanean, I am picky about my Cajun food and holy goodness I want to eat here all the time. It's so good! Their customer service was awesome. We were greeted when we walked in, offered samples and our food was ready pronto. They were genuinely interested in our experience and wanted us to leave happy (and full). Oh, and they give you this sliced French bread with this seasoned butter yumminess that's so good you'll want to slap ya mama. Oh man that was good. I got a plate half with jambalaya (spicy! But not too spicy) and half with crawfish étouffée. They name their étouffée something weird but it's just yummy étouffée. My husband got a plate half with drunken chicken ("awesome! Always have a good experience here. Friendly knowledgeable workers, fast service, delicious food. They also have options for every body whether you're a carnivore, gluten free or a vegan they have at least one dish for you. Their food prices are unbeatable but they do charge a bit much for their fountain drinks. 2.75 for a tea in what I'm guessing is a 16ounce cup. Best thing about Yats is by far the bread though. This is a great place to go the food is good has great flavor not what you expect make you want to go back for seconds it's kind of noisy because the dining room is kind of small but to taste the food I didn't mind these guys need a larger place because this is somewhere you will want all your friends to try. the food is so good I forgot to mention love the service also read more

Love it. They have all the options of the downtown or Broad Ripple locations. The employees are always super friendly and they even give a uniformed discount. I usually go with old favorites like jambalaya and Maque Choux but they have the usual Chili Cheese Étouffée if that's what you're looking for. They also have Diet Dr. Pepper AND Diet Mountain Dew which is both a rare and much appreciated for soda enthusiasts. read more

I'm not sure why everyone loves this place. Ate dinner here. It's basically a cup of chili/stew poured over rice. Our rice was crunchy which meant it was either old & dried out or undercooked. They serve it with a piece of bread painted with some kind of flavored oil. Yuck. I guess the way you get people to eat this slop is sell them cheap booze. The atmosphere is nonexistent. It's in a strip mall right on US 36 next to a bunch of other mediocre restaurants. The exception is the Thai restaurant a few doors down. I 'd go there instead. read more

Wonderful. I don't know how authentic it is, and really don't care. The food is always great, the staff friendly, and the portion size spot on. Drunken Chicken is my personal "go to", but I have yet to have a disappointing entree'. Now if I can just get my wife to give it a chance. read more
