If you know me and if you know my dining habits, then you're likely very surprised that I find myself a fan of Yats. I don't have a particularly adventurous palate. My body's digestive system isn't the greatest. I tend to go for familiar staples rather than risk-taking cuisine. I have weird texture issues and don't really love my flavors all smooshed together. So, why do I love Yats and why did I insist on finally visiting this Avon location as I wind down my time working on my father's Putnam County estate (one county west)? It starts with the service. It's not what I'd call gregarious. It's calm yet friendly, hospitable yet not smothering. As someone who is introverted yet social, I feel comfortable here. It then goes to the atmosphere. Every Yats I've been to has a stylish, warm vibe that combines culture with art and just the right amount of humanity. Then, there are the prices. There are only a couple price points for Yats (unless you do add-ons like beer). Pricing is simple, consistent, and you know you can get a good meal for a fair price. I guess I should also mention the food. I don't know. I hate smooshed foods. I hate odd textures. I love Yats. I was introduced to Yats with the Italiano, a concoction I don't see often on their chalkboard-written rotating menu that always lets people know which dishes are began, vegetarian, gluten-free, etc. My other "go to" option is the drunken chicken. Both have unique textures and smooshed flavors - yet, I love them. Every location I've been to is pretty darn accessible. Employees will assist if needed, though they won't assume (which I appreciate). This location is accessible, beautifully decorated, and as soon as you enter you can't help but feel like you've entered a cajun world smack dab in the middle of Avon. Yats, a mini-chain now in Indiana and Ohio, was started here (right on College Avenue). You used to see the owner pretty regularly - a little less common now with 14 locations, however, the New Orleans vibe is present at every location. Good food. Fairly priced. Pleasant atmosphere. My daughter loves this little chain, so we have to go there any time she is in town. I don't mind as I do enjoy the food. Unfortunately the food doesn't agree with me any more, guess it's an age thing, gives me heart burn. But I love the taste so occasionally I can't resist. We stopped in for lunch at Yats on our way through town. They offer several veg options, which caught our eye. We were greeted at the counter by a friendly staff member, placed our order, and sat down to wait for our food to arrive. The interior of the restaurant is no frills, and there is a patio if weather permits outdoor dining. The music inside was pretty loud, but that may be because we arrived after the lunch rush when it was louder in general. I ordered the vegan white chili, which contains navy beans, onions, red peppers, tomatoes, and jalapeños. It was served over a bed of rice and with a piece of spiced and buttered baguette. I enjoyed the chili. It was mildly spicy with a good depth of flavor. I would have preferred to have the rice on the side. My partner ordered the vegetarian spinach and mushroom étouffée. It was creamy with almost a cheesy taste. It also was served over a bed of rice and with the buttered baguette. With the rice, portions are ample! We would come again if in the area. read more

Everytime we dine-in or carryout the food is consistent, hot, delicious and arrives in the window incredibly fast plus the service rates a 5 star as well. The dining area is currently OPEN in Avon plus they offer "Pop the Trunk" Curbside Delivery or Carryout. Masks are required to enter the restaurant. You will order at the counter from the chalkboard menu behind the counter and pick up at the window next to the counter. You'll find a constantly rotating menu on the chalkboard for the 7 - 10 daily selections which include Vegetarian and Vegan options. I stopped in today to order a carryout of a classic New Orleans dish of Slow Cooked Red Beans and Smoked Sausage over Rice. My husband loves this dish and is one of his go-to meals topped with the Lightning sauce. Next to the drink dispenser are many sauces to top off your entree. We've sampled most and obviously all provide a different flavor so try several till you find your favorite. The cajun buttered baguette is amazing and comes with each dish but I highly recommend you order extra bread. You'll be glad you did! While you're at the counter pick-up one of the cookies. They are scrumptious! My favorite at Yats is the Chicken Maque Choux (pronounced Mock-Shoe) which is a sweet, creamy Etouffee with chicken and corn served over rice. I love this dish and I order often. The staff are super friendly and helpful answering menu and sauce questions. The best place! Go there! We had never been there before and had no clue what they had. The woman at the front took the time to explain what stuff tasted like! I was really excited about going here because I love everything about the Yats in Franklin, TN. But I was extremely disappointed by this visit. The staff is nowhere near as friendly in Avon, IN as they are at the Tennessee location. No samples offered to the person I brought who was trying to make up her mind and they barely even talked to us at all. They weren't busy, we were the only ones in line. The food isn't as delicious either. They had a lot more pepper and spice in the Drunken Chicken when I tried a bite. They also had a lot less meat in the servings. That way I change it up as often as I like. They constantly have diffrent specials so there is always something new to try. All orders also come with this really amazing garlic bread!
