I just want to say I've been to the church right three times you're probably wondering why have I been here three times and I'm just now leaving the review. I would like to stay the first two times were takeout. The first time they were under construction in the pictures online, we're not the building, but I was expecting to pull up to because it was not the same location, but I am leaving a review to talk about last night last night. I am only 30 and I could not see at all the prices that on the menu do not reflect the prices that are on the bill the food we got which will be pictured came cold, like it had been sitting already prepared, and nobody had grabbed our order. A lot of people were very disappointed. One gentleman had to get up to find a waitress because he had shrimp in his food and was allergic to shrimp. I thought that was very negligent for them not to take note of that there was very little knowledge of the menu so not very much help from the service I was going to eat egusi and fufu like on tiktok Now I must say I'm not an African, but the fool balls were almost dry and old the rice my partner had was smoky and very dry. She stated she does not remember any other restaurant food tasting so dry the smokey flavor ridiculously strong. The egusi, was cold... both entrees COLD.! The bathrooms reeked and walls dirty. You can tell this place has a lot of potential, but I don't know how long they will be in business. Also, they only serve wine. I did not see hookah like it states online in the wine. I believe they had were so overpriced but maybe they were shipped over or something. I am going to give about a three star all the way around because I see the potential in this restaurant, but I had a very bad experience with the Food the lighting the bathroom, tables also dirty we prayed hard over our food it all seemed very unhygienic. but I see a lot of potential. Also, I know there is some cultural differences, but there are certain things that could have been better. Now I am open to everything - I am enjoying the spicy goat and jollof but the price compared to what I ordered - a crime! You can't even get a cup of water, you have to buy a bottle. I paid $20 for a to go container of rice and a palm full of goat - not to mention I paid $10 to get in. It's Saturday, midnight and it's pretty empty. The bartenders are super friendly and on top of things but it's a disappointment for this place to be this empty and..boring - the songs are hit or miss, more folks are sitting around instead of dancing to the music. First time enjoying Nigerian... and it was delicious! Got the Iyan fufu, goat and egusi stew. We also tried the chicken and joffa rice. We loved every bite. Ok so this was my first experience here and our server who's name I forget was so lovely. She had great recommendations and was so friendly. She asked what we liked and took it from there. I ordered a morsel meal Egusi, with pounded yam and sobolo... oh words can't describe how happy I am to have tried this place. My sister tried the chicken and collard meal and my niece chicken and jollof Everyone was happy and we enjoyed our meal as it wasn't alot of people it was a very relaxed atmosphere and welcoming to us all. African food is how it is listed. In fact, this is Nigerian food. There are many countries in Africa and loads of different cuisines on this continent. Not knowing much about this particular cooking style, let me highlight the things I have learned during my visit: 1. Silverware is not used with every dish, this is a hands on experience. You will get a bowl with water and a whole basket full of sturdy napkins to aid you in cleaning you utensils = your fingers. (They do have forks if you want to admit defeat) 2. The chicken. If you order anything with chicken please be aware that the meat is from hens.. old hens... that stuff, while tasty, is extremely tough. It almost has the consistency of jerky. 3. The rice dishes are a good entry point, if you are as clueless about the cuisine as I am. The fried rice being fairly mild and the Jollof rice packing a bit of heat. 4. No alcohol here, but various bottled soft drinks and water. That said, the service is very friendly and folks explain the various dishes to you. Everybody at the table really enjoyed the meat pie. That is a must try. It's listed under appetizer and has a nice savory filling of meat and I think there are little potatoes in it too, or something similar. It looks similar to an empanada, but the crust is really light and delicious. A new favorite of mine. I had the rice with Jollof and fried rice. Both rice dishes were excellent, described above. The chicken a surprise to me, I was not prepared for the consistency of the meat. The sauce packed a punch but so nicely flavored. I even asked for more of it. Went in here because the fiancée wanted to try it out, never had African food before, so figured it'd be fun to try. I'd say it was pretty good! Waitress very friendly, food tasted delicious, good spacing on the tables so it doesn't feel crowded, just a good place! I see some people making hay about how some stuff is priced differently than what it shows on the menu... this is true, but it's not a huge difference and the waitress made sure to let us know in advance. If you're too poor to afford a couple extra bucks, don't eat out at restaurants. One last note: Apple Maps led me to the wrong place when I punched this joint into the gps. The Jollof rice was good but the small piece of chicken I got was inedible, it must have been held forever, it was so dry I couldn't pull the meat off the bone. The extra chicken was a piece of rib with almost no sauce. Didn't taste it as I could not pull meat off of the bone. Visited this establishment for the very first time last week with the International Marketplace Coalition. The food was very Good! I had the tilapia with jollof ricen, plantain and greens. Everything was delicious! If I had to choose a favorite part of the meal, it would be the greens. When paying my bill one of the staff members suggested that I try the greens with pounded yam on my next visit. I also want to try a meat pie. read more

Hit or miss with this one. EKO is a great place to get authentic Nigerian cuisine. It's conveniently located in the International Marketplace area of town, and is right in the center of activity in the area. The first time I visited, my food was PHENOMENAL. My second visit didn't quite meet the expectations that my initial visit had set. While the food was good, it lacked some of the seasoning that had been present during my first visit. The staff at EKO are very friendly and helpful. My last waitress lacked a bit of a sense of urgency, but nothing that wasn't easily resolved and managed. If you're looking for a place to get authentic jollof and egusi, EKO is worth a try. read more

I have been to this restaurant a few times. There isn't anything particularly different about this visit. They serve Nigerian food and generally have a lot of patrons picking up take-out orders. I usually eat in though. Today, I got the egusi stew with iyan. It was delicious as usual. Egusi is ground watermelon seed. The stew has a tomato base and some Type of leafy green vegetables in it. Iyan is pounded yam. It's a like dense mashed potatoes. Their egusi stew is really good. I had it with assorted meat; goat and tripe. What a great joy to stumble across this hidden Indianapolis jewel. The name is misleading. It is west Africa cuisine, specifically Nigerian..... but do not let you stop you. The food is good. If I had closed my eyes while eatting, I would have thought I was in any West African country. I had the fufu, the best Ive had anywhere in the United States. Meat is dry and over cooked and portioned very small compared to the price you pay. The meat and plantains entree is 15 dollars but you get b bone in fish which is good but it's so dry you can't eat it and barley any meat. The Nigerian Egusi stew is delicious; thick and savory, the flavor is like a party in your mouth. Egusi is made from ground watermelon seeds. I have not been able to find this type of stew here in Indianapolis. This place is a welcomed surprise. I have tried the goat, chicken and fish stew. But my favorite order is just the Egusi stew sauce. The two fufu come with each order. The food here is pretty authentic. Call in orders will save you some time, this is not a fast food place! Worst place ever to rent the hall out!!! Don't ever rent this place had a party for a family member and it was the worst experience ever! First of all it is way to small then they scammed us from our deposit, the owner had agree on a certain time and we had a deal! Then all of a sudden she got sick and her niece took over the deal, and screwed us over on the time we could get in and the time we had turn in the place! Also when it came to the security guard we paid for he never showed up!! They still charged us for him and it was a nightmare getting our deposit back the niece made everything really hard on us. This place is terrible. Red sauce is watered down. It has no flavor except hot. I love hot and spicy foods but only if it has a flavor. There were tiny bones in my food that were super easy to choke on. I actually wish I would have choked on the food so I wouldn't have eaten anything else. The goat was extremely tough and also lacked flavor. My Corona came with a lemon and is supposed to be garnished with a lime. Then the waitress had her belly sticking out which was off putting. Not one worker there was amicable or congenial. The menu is a disaster. It isn't put together well and you have to flip the menu around to order one meal. This is by far the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The bathrooms smelled of sewage. Not off someone just using them but of actual sewage. I will be calling the health department to inspect this place. Absolutely terrible. It would be a great service to Indianapolis if it was just put out of business. read more
