Made my order incorrect then expected me to drive across town with said incorrect order to fix it.

Stopped in at Yang's on my way home from the beach. It's a blast from my past as they opened when I was attending Western Oregon University (go wolves). Back in the day I would stop by Yang's after morning classes and buy a large #4 with no salad and it would feed me for the rest of the day. It truly was my favorite thing to eat while in college. When I stopped in, not much has changed. The owner was still present in the kitchen and the helpings are more than enough to keep you satiated. Prices are up of course but I found it reasonable. I ordered the large #4 with the cabbage... it still tastes great. The restaurant itself is not terribly fancy but it appear rad to be clean and well maintained. The service staff were friendly, but not chatty. I imagine they get a lot of alums coming in and talking about the good old days... I ordered and had my food within 4 minutes. I would warn not to put too much sauce on the food if you are taking it to go. See about getting it on the side... it makes the rice weird if it sits on it too long. And speaking of the sauce... it is delicious, if you like teriyaki. They have beef, pork, and chicken on rice or noodles and spicy or sweet options. The fountain drinks are standard Pepsi fare but they have a selection of bottled beverages available as well. I have a soft spot in my heart for Yang's. It's not fancy but it's good food. The food is so hit or miss on freshness. Sometimes the rice or noodles will be spot on, but often they're kinda mush from sitting in a steamer for too long. Their proteins are bland and the texture is mealy. I'm usually a big fan of ready made food like this. Takes five minutes to order and get your food, and umami delicious from all the seasoning. Mushy noodles and bland protein don't do it for me. read more

Used to be a great bang for your buck but this year they raised the price and started adding less meat than it used to be. I understand raising the price but adding less meat is robbing us. I've been noticing the rice is overcooked too. It's just disappointing. read more

My husband's college town, clutch teriyaki spot. We love the pricing, quality, and quantity we get here. 5 out of 5 for value and experience. There are great options for meat, I particularly love the spicy chicken with yakisoba and regular cabbage. One large serving lasted me three meals, however my husband ate it in one. One of my favorite places in Monmouth. Plenty of good food for little money. I ordered dinner for 6 people and it came out to a little over $30. My personal favorite is the #4 - teriyaki chicken - but everything I have had there has been great. I always get extra sauce because I love their teriyaki sauce. This little Teriyaki place starts lining up right as the noon hour begins. The line may be long but they employ enough people to keep the line moving swiftly through. They have a menu of a few items (think in and out burger) and you can quickly look up at the board to see what you would like. They have sodas and teas to drink. On this day, it was nice outside and there were a variety of picnic tables about to sit at. A nice way to enjoy the meal and the day. I would definitely come back by here again when in Monmouth. The food: incredible. The large is LARGE - enough to feed you for several meals. But it's so good you'll pick up your fork and before you know it, it's gone. If you're planning on having leftovers, remove the leftovers *before* you start eating. It's cheap too. You'll think they forgot to ring something up so cheap. The location: limited parking. If there's nothing on the street, you might find some in the back assuming no one has blocked the driveway. But if you have to go around the corner and park along Main, don't be disheartened - this food is worth walking miles for. The atmosphere: apparently they are remodeling, and I'm excited to see the new place. But pre-summer 2019 it was one of those "everything feels sticky" places. A no from me. Chicken was burned and very dry. The rice was overcooked and mushy. The teriyaki sauce is like water with consistency and tasted like sugar water. I don't know if it's a cost saving thing to cut it with water or what. I'm sure for a college kid on a budget it's okay. 2 stars because it was cheap. read more

I have been going to yangs for 13 plus years i love the food there! Now days tho they don't put even half the chicken they would before and all the people that work there are so rude they act like they are better than you! Plus before I would ask for an extra sauce to go with my food and now they so no you can any get one tiny little sauce which is crazy ! Before even just last week they gave me 3 extra sauces I even asked to pay for them and they said NO!!! I really loved this place but the people working there make me not want to go there and I don't want dry food and can't have any sauce besides one tiny one!! Not cool and the chicken now is so dry and hard to eat I miss when is was so soft ! I miss the old yangs !!!! read more

Very popular with WOU students for three reasons: it's cheap, it's close, and it's good. And did I mention it's cheap? Definitely filling, too ... why not get the larger size and make two meals out of it? Several typical meat options, you can request noodles instead of rice for a little extra, and the flavor is more than decent. They've also got bottled and fountain drinks. But like someone else mentioned, Yang's only accepts cash so be prepared! As for atmosphere and decor, it's nothing special, but there's plenty of room (if downstairs is packed or noisy, take the stairs to the small dining room there), and the people are friendly. Let's go over the Food: Quality, quantity, and price. Food Quality: The food at Yang's tastes good. Not great, not bad. I'm from Hawaii so I definitely have had my better share of Teriyaki meats. They cook the food in what I'm guessing is large batches and bring it out to food warmers in the front. There they sit until you order your plate; then they plate what you want and douse it in their Teriyaki sauce which is not bad, actually. Very tasty and not as sweet as many other teriyaki places. Overall, food quality food be better. The meats are minced up which makes it kind of weird for me. Instead of rice you can get noodles (+$1) which are bland on their own but when sauce is poured on, it's tasty and light. The cabbage you can get with the plate at not additional costs, to me, is weird and I personally dont like it. Others do, therefore I will not speak against it. Food Quantity: You can get a small or large plate; each comes with a large serving size for the name. There is a thick bed of rice on each of the plates, then you get to choose between types of cabbage you want: sweet&sour, stir-fried, or even no cabbage (extra rice). The meat gets portioned according to plate size and then placed on the bed of rice (and cabbage). If you decide to opt for the noodles, you can expect a ton of noodles. This is fair warning. Food Price: Cheap! College friendly prices! Overall, Yang's is good every once in a while. Campus food gets tired quick, so Yangs is a nice treat. Give it a shot! read more

Yangs Teriyaki is a rare example of college fare that goes above and beyond to become something more. The meals are large and very cheap for what you get. The meat is good quality, though nothing spectacular, the cabbage is well seasoned and scrumptious, the sauce is mouthwateringly delicious, and the service is both very fast a extremely friendly. I eat here frequently during the week, and I wish it were open on the weekend as well. - My favorite is the pork and beef with cooked cabbage and extra sauce (to go of course) and then walking a block over to the little park and sitting in the sun (when it's out). read more

I went to Yangs based on the opinions of the various college students in the town who rave about it and was very disappointed. Cleanliness: The facility was very dirty. There was debris on the floor and old debris caked in the corners. Behind the counter wasn't much better. Service: The service was very good and the best part of my visit. The man at the counter (I am assuming was Yang) was very friendly and polite. I noticed that everything is prepared by the counter people after you order it which stored in various hold vessels behind the counter. Food: I must say the food was horrible. I got the lrg. beef and pork with noodles and cabbage, everything was way overcooked and obviously being held past its prime. The cabbage seemed like it was from a cold slaw kit that had been cooked into a small mush and the beef and pork were quite flavorless. The noodles were wet and slippery and clearly not sautéed like traditional yakisoba noodles. If they had then they were put into a holding unit for some time after. AN the portion size on the large was unbelievable, It was more than enough for 3 people Value: My meal was around $6 which for the amount of food you receive even though it is poor quality I can understand why they college kids rave about it. Conclusion: I will not be returning to Yangs. They do not appear to have quality in mind at all and they seem to be more focused on serving cafeteria level food to the school students than anything else. I had the teriyaki chicken with noodles and stir fried cabbage. .... Well, I guess I wasn't impressed. I've had much better. The chicken was in very small pieces and over cooked. Mixed in with the noodles it was hard to get to the chewy little morsels. (Plastic fork and styrofoam container)The noodles were large and gooey that stuck together. I prefer the very thin noodles and larger pieces of chicken. The good; large portion and the price was reasonable and the service was good. The large portion and price moved it to a 3 star. read more
