    Shrimp with lobster sauce

Always a go to place in Pasadena or Chinatown for some greasy Cantonese comfort Chinese food! Same nice friendly owner and staff have been delivering their version of chinese food with some variations for Slippery shrimp and other house specialties. Great for take out too and lunch specials during the weekdays.

Wanted Chinese food and found this place on Google so decided to give it a try instead of driving into San Gabriel/Alhambra. It was okay overall, good but not great. They seem to cater more to westerners which makes sense given their location. We ordered the lamb house special, beef broccoli scallop stir fry, fried wontons, and a Lo mein. Their meat dishes were pretty good but you definitely need white rice to pair with it. The fried wontons were subpar and truly just fried dough with a spec of pork filling. The Lo mein was good but tasted overwhelmingly of bamboo shoots, we added the chili oil to it. I'd probably just come back for take out if I dine here again.

Location in Chinatown LA is legendary. This spot not so much. The slippery shrimp was on point as always but the Orange Beef and Noodles with veggies were lacking. The noodles were all blend and the veggies just seemed poor quality. Soaked with water that they had a really off-putting mushy texture. Orange Beef was flavorful but like chewing bits of rubber. Shreds were getting stuck in my teeth! Just get a rice and shrimp and call it a day!

Went on a Monday for dinner and the place was a little empty. Service is quick and the servers were very attentive. We ordered the wonton soup for 4 along with pan fried noodles, orange chicken and a beef dish I can't remember which one. I don't think I ever had such flavored wonton soup. The broth is well seasoned and the ingredients were fresh and well portioned. The orange chicken was a bit too crispy but I liked the mild taste of the orange. The noodles were too crispy for me but the beef on both dishes was decent. They have a big menu I would like to try more.

If you don't want to wait a long time don't come for dinner. Every time I've been here it is busy and a lot of to go orders. The service is quick once you are seated and food does not take very long. Restaurant is clean and not very big but fits a decent amount of tables. Slippery shrimp and schezhuan beef are my favorites. Not a big fan of the noodles. Parking available on the street and their lot is rather small and narrow.

Woah. My brother-in-law, Manny, recommended this place, so my family and I made a visit here. I was surprised to see people were already lining up a few minutes before opening. The appetizers and mains were AMAZING! This was my first time eating shrimp toast. I don't think I know of any other place that serves this. It's like eating crispy butterfly shrimp but BETTER. Then there's the juicy pork dumplings. Yup. Hits the spot. Definitely juicy and perfect on this cold day. Same with the sizzling rice soup! I also had the Moo Shu Beef. That was so yummy. I'm so glad they wrapped it for us because I'd get so messy if I did this myself. Finally, you can't go wrong with combination chow mein. It was protein filled and didn't miss. This was an amazing dining experience. Plenty of seats for large gatherings and the portions are perfect for sharing. It's so fun to see the wall of celebs who've dined here. Perhaps that's a testimonial to come try this place, but the great food and excellent service is convincing enough for me.

I can definitely see the appeal of this restaurant. It's good old Chinese comfort food. Ideal to come here with a family/friends and share various plates. My favorites were the string beans and slippery shrimp. Service was kind of slow and impersonal though.

Food is great, the service fast and the place inside is really clean and definitely a great place to dine with family. We live around the area and definitely will be coming back. This restaurant in Los Angeles is famous for its patrons that have come into eat. Well let me tell you, the Slippery Shrimp are worth drive from Orange Country to eat. We ordered the shrimp, Kung pow beef, fried rice, and sauced green beans. The beef was good and the fried rice were good. It seems that everywhere we go and order steamed rice, it just seems bland to blah. Nothing special. But the Slippery Shrimp was the bomb. It is their own recipe and it is very similar to Orange chicken, but it is shrimp. So good. As for the green beans, we always compare them to our favorites so they have a hard time matching up. They good, but not as good as the one in San Gabriel. Will be back for more shrimp

There is a parking lot. It seems small but there were quite a few spaces. The inside has booth seating and round table seating. We tried the spicy szechun wonton soup, yang chow fried rice, moo shu pork, and fish with black bean sauce. Very pleasantly surprised how everything was so tasty. Pricing was a bit more than regular traditional chinese restaurants but the service was spectacular. Upon entering the restaurant you feel very welcomed by staff. When they come around and serve you they are just so friendly and helpful. They look like just an old, little restaurant from the outside but it's definitely worth a visit..or more. Food and service was great!

They looked like literal pieces of art being poured at the table. Ordering was super easy with the QR code system, so my husband handled the whole spread: shumai dumplings, chicken feet, sesame balls, and more. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The ENTIRE table agreed on one thing: the chili oil condiment deserves to be sold in bottles to take home. It was that good. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. They declared this place to have the best chicken feet that they've ever had: meat easily sucked off the bone, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly seasoned. Colette offers a somewhat non-traditional, somewhat elevated menu, not as varied as other Chinese places, although they do offer dim sum and lunch specials. Note the menu on the website is old and kind of obsolete; the newer menu, which is laminated and has photos, is more extensive. The dish I always order is their fabulous chayote minced pork. I've also ordered their live lobster when I have a hankering. They have the lobsters and crabs in tanks on view, priced per pound. They can prepare it in several ways; I always choose stir-fried with ginger and scallions and add noodles. They also have some specialty dishes like winter melon soup that you must order in advance. I ordered 3 other dishes, only one for the first time. That was honey-glazed beef cubes. Slices of beef covered in sliced almonds on a bed of asparagus with an orange sauce that was similar to orange marmalade. Tasty and unique. The other 2 dishes that I've had before were the golden yolk luffa and the goo-loo pork (aka sweet and sour pork). Luffa is a gourd (like a cucumber) that is edible when young, but turns into the fibrous sponges we bathe with when mature. It's slighty bitter, here stir-fried with salted egg yolk. The pork was pretty traditional, slightly elevated with the addition of strawberries. For me, a reliable neighbourhood spot for Chinese. I hope they can keep it together.
