Their house noodles are delicious and moreish at an remarkable price point. The main appeal is the affordability and the quality of food you are getting. We arrived on a Friday evening where a line has already been starting, but the wait was not too long. The atmosphere is fast-paced, so I would recommend having an idea of the menu and what you want since the lady taking orders was shuffling the diners in and out. It's definitely not a place to sit and enjoy the food in relaxation, but they do have takeout options. It's a small restaurant so you are sitting shoulder to shoulder with everyone lined up at the bar. You can see the lady cooking all the incoming orders and it's quite impressive the speed at which dishes are created. Also this is a cash only establishment.

This little place was sent from heaven! BEST prices which they're famous for, incredible flavors, and large portions especially for the price! I assume it's a mom and daughter that fun this place and they are so nice and funny. Every bite I took of my YAMO HOUSE NOODLES and TEA SALAD I was trying to think of how I could recreate it at home and... I have no clue so I'll be back here soon. Yamo, watch out for me! Highly recommend. Expect a line, it's worth the wait.

Some of my friends had recommended this place as somewhere that was super affordable with good food so my friend and I decided to check it out on a Friday night at around 6:30 pm. There was a small line as they only had 8 seats inside and we got seated around 20 minutes later. The main person who was taking our orders was very direct and slightly rushing us, and came across a little rude at times. Samusas - Fresh and came straight off of them cooking it right in front of us. It was hot, crispy, lightly spiced and filled with a great curry flavor. A nice appetizer to start off with. Yamo House Noodles w/ Chicken - This was a pretty big portion size for only 9 dollars! The chicken was soft and the noodles had a good chewy texture. Mixed all together with the garlic and the sauce at the bottom, it reminded us a bit of the flavors in indomie. The crunchy garlic on top and the aroma of the overall dish made it very enticing. For the price and the portion sizes, it is for sure worth checking out but be prepared for the possibility of long lines and it is a cash only place.

Finally got around to trying this spot after hearing so much hype about how much of a hidden gem it was. Definitely an experience watching the one chef cook everything in their super tiny kitchen. The seating is pretty cramped and the wait was quite long (about an hour on a friday night) but I'm glad I tried it. The yamo house noodles were so garlicky and chewy -- my favorite dish of the night. I thought the cold noodles were okay but a little too oily and sour for me. The black bean fish was super comforting -- not super flavorful but really good once you get the sauce. Overall for $9 per dish it was super filling and cooked fresh and piping hot, so worth the price!

Yamo is described as a hole in the wall, but it's more home in the wall. Over the course of our dinner we heard other patrons say bye to Michelle by name and MAMA. There are so many regulars and it feels like a slice of comfort when coming in. We got the Samosa's chicken noodle soup house noodle special with beef and tea salad - all top notch. We already have our sight set on coming back soon, with dishes picked out already. Service is fast and it's wonderful just watching the chef work her magic. Make sure to try the pickled cucumbers!

The prices here are actually wild! In the best way! $9 for a meal is insane in the city. For great food, too. We ordered the house noodles which were super garlicky and oily and yummmmyyyy. The chicken curry was super interesting- new flavors for me because I don't normally have Burmese food but still really good! I think the flavor is something I still need to get used to but it's definitely delicious! There were two people working / serving / cooking. Both of which were super fast and friendly. It's a small place- NY type small but luckily they had two seats open for us as soon as we got there- good luck I guess. I was very pleased. I will definitely be coming back!

I LOVE this place! Great value, delicious food, and amazing store owners. The Yamo House Noodle is packed with flavors and I could eat many meals of the noodle! The fried rice is umami and the samosas are quite good too. Overall this place is a stable for me. It offers tasty food at a very affordable price. They're cash only.

Got there to be first in line. Ok, line forms to the right. Saturday, Michelle let us in at 5 pm when yelp said open at 5:30 pm. We were told the tea leaf salad has a kick, so we passed on it. All the salad had a kick of spice. Samosa was this small freshly fried, crunchy potato inside. 5 in an order. Delicious. Curry chicken very light in flavor but I tasted the coconut. We got rice but next time get the noodle. That noodle is addicting. We got the house beef noodle. Yes really good. Lady next to me had tea leaf and noodles. Our last dish was an after thought, the mango chicken with noodle. I can just eat that again and again. Michelle was the daughter of the cook. Duo extraordinaire. She was the prep, cashier, the peacemaker, and crisis intervention specialist. Lady in line insisted on coming in when restaurant was full.

Yea for YAmo!!!!!!!!!!!!! I FINALLY made it after years of hype in my head! This place is like the Mission's version of Cordon Bleu (and if you haven't been to Cordon Bleu on California & Polk, go fix your life immediately). There was a small line, but it's one of those places where patience is rewarded. We scored some counter seat and settled in. Of course, they were out of samosas (sad face), so we went with the spring rolls AND egg rolls, plus the Yamo noodles with beef and the tea leaf salad. That salad stole the show, it was a bit spicier than I've had before, but in the best way. The noodles were solid too, and everything came out quick because they are not about that linger and hold up future counter revenue. The best part? The whole deal was around $32 for 2. Fast, tasty, and a total bargain. My only beef is that they're not open for lunch anymore Note no Diet coke and you canNOT bring in alcohol.

I came to Yamo for dinner and the food was incredible! The beef house noodles and tea salad were packed with flavor and is easy to see why they are fan favorites. The prices were very affordable especially considering the quality and quantity of food we received. The place is small seating less than 10 people and just two staff members, your typical hole in the wall. But it was quite cozy and the service was excellent. When we came there wasn't a wait but while we were eating the line quickly grew. Overall a great spot for tasty home cooked Burmese food.

It is endearing how Michelle (the waitress) remembers all of her customer's names. Yamo is a small eight seat counter style restaurant ran by a daughter and mother team. My Burmese tea salad $9 and chicken house noodles $9 were delicious. A lot of flavor. It is great for the price. There was a 30 minutes wait at 7:30pm on a Monday. Excellent dinner tonight.

Good cheap food, but overrated. The samusas are like mashed potatoes fried covered in a flaky crust. 3/5 The house noodles were delicious. The chili oil with the peanuts give the meat and noodles an even better flavor. 4/5 The mango chicken wasn't great. The only flavor was in the sauce which wasn't savory enough. The chicken, and vegetables were very bland and surprisingly the mangoes too. 2/5 The wait for sit in can get pretty long since there only like 10 spots to sit on the bar. But that is the vibe - interpersonal quick cheap eats. I went around 6:30pm and waited around 25 minutes on a Tuesday. I would come again for some cheap good noodle dishes, but not if it was out of the way or if there was a wait.

Hello! They open from 5:30 - 9:30 PM, Monday - Saturday. Remember to bring cash as they do not accept credit cards. Enjoy!

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN YAMO IS OPEN? I've gone so many times and it's ALWAYS CLOSED?

They open up at 5:30pm...I am not sure what days YAMO is closed for business. Ask for Michelle and tell her Russell said to say Hello!!!

Is Yamo open for lunch or just dinner?

    Dinner only right now. Monday - Saturday, 5:30 p - 9:00 p.

Is Yamo open? I tried going last Friday, this Monday: CLOSED both times.

    Dinner Monday - Saturday, 5:30 p - 9:00 p. I just called them to check!

Is Yamo done, I have been calling and no answer and the spot has been dark every time I go by?

Yes, it's open. I just ordered from there

Is Yamo open during the workweek for lunch? I know the hours on Yelp suggest otherwise, but I've walked by several times over the past few months during that workday lunchtime and it seemed very much closed.

Went there at 3pm on a Thursday and they're not open.

    Is it busy?

Depends on time you go. During lunch ... yes.REALLY SMALL. So hard to move around

It's been a while since the last time we've come to Burma Superstar, but we saw the restaurant week…read moremenu and decided it was about time to come back! This time it was a $90 set with 2 drinks, 2 servings of rice of your choice, a trio of their salads, and 2 entrees - honestly a great deal and I think the waitstaff mentioned it's about a $150 value, which I completely believe. Our party of 4 arrived around 8:15, and waited about 15 minutes to get seated - definitely try to join the ahead of time because they saved us! It's cozy, clean and well decorated inside, and though the tables are a little close you have plenty of space and it's not too loud for conversations. We got two sets of the $90 menu - which was probably a mistake since we were stuffed and had plenty of leftovers. Drinks: we got 4 different drinks - the mango Lassi, spiced sunset, nanda breeze and burma cooler. All of these were excellent, refreshing and great for balancing the strong flavors of the entrees! Rice: we always get the coconut rice, so this time we opted for 2 scoops of coconut rice and 2 scoops of the burmese fried rice - the fried rice was tasty but not as fragrant as the coconut rice so we'll probably stick to that in the future Salad trio: this included the iconic tea leaf salad, along with the pea shoot salad, and superstar noodle salad. The pea shoot salad was a surprising favorite, and I'd even consider getting that over the tea leaf salad in the future! The noodle salad was pretty filling but tasty - maybe good if you're not planning to get a bunch of entrees On to the entrees: these are all super flavorful, umami, and can get a little heavy if you don't balance it out with the rice and salads. We got the pazun kyaw (chili prawns), nga phel hin (a sort of fish patty in tomato curry sauce with fresh cucumber slices), chili lamb, and basil chili pork belly. The chili lamb was a standout - super tender, flavorful and our overall favorite. The basil chili pork belly is a close second, but a bit oilier and heavier. The nga phel hin was tasty but a little too heavy /salty - slightly helped by the cucumber but there were only 4 slices with the dish. The chili prawns had great flavor but unfortunately were a little overcooked. Overall, this was an excellent meal! Burma Superstar never fails to be a great place for a large, flavorful family style dinner. I'm glad we got to try multiple new things from the menu through the restaurant week offer, and I'll be able to switch up my typical order in the future based on what we tried this time!

The service here is night and day compared to Burma superstar. The service here is exponentially better, the staff is super friendly, incredibly attentive, and they make everyone feel very welcomed. The food on the other hand just is not great. Yes this place is always packed apparently, and it may be out of convenience. I found that everything that we ordered with the exception of the coconut rice fell flat. This is one of those moments that hurt your heart because I want to give them huge accolades, but it's just not there. We ordered the platha. It was tasty, but it also did not taste super fresh. The dipping sauce that it comes with (opted for chicken) and kept digging around the small bowl to find pieces of chicken that were nonexistent. The up charge of a dollar for the chicken dipping sauce that did not have chicken in it super disappointing. The sauce was tasty, but definitely not worth the up charge. Our server encouraged us to get the tea salad, which is definitely something. Someone should try if you've never had it before. The mixture of fresh veggies, the light sauce and the herbs, make for a very fresh bite. I would've been thrilled if late shredded chicken could be added to this for a different style dish. It would be super tasty. The salad was good, but not my style, but everyone else enjoyed it. We ordered the beef curry and the coconut rice. I absolutely want to emphasize how incredible the staff is. Their service and attentiveness absolutely should be acknowledged over and over again. The coconut rice at this location is exponentially better than at the other restaurant that we tried. This was a combination of light, fluffy, and absolutely flavorful delicious rice. The beef curry was incredibly disappointing. The beef was well done not done well. It was tough, overly chewy, and the flavor profile was just not good. It was missing something and even the light curry broth that the meat was sitting in well, good wasn't fantastic. The drinks seem pricier here, and the mango lassie, while good, was just OK. It tasted more like watered down mango. For dessert, we tried the black rice. This is definitely worth trying. It's a heavier dessert and probably a bit much after what felt like an uncomfortable dinner. The coconut sauce that it's sitting in is delicious and I can see why so many people enjoy it, and maybe if the strawberries were tastier the combination of all of the flavors may have made a difference. I definitely think it's something worth trying, but maybe elsewhere, or with different items for dinner.
