No safety checks at 10 AM on Saturday
    Erica H.

I don't appreciate dishonesty. That is this long story short. I went to get a safety check and pulled in around 8:45 am. They asked if I wanted a car wash and I said, no thank you, just a safety check, and the person said, ok, come back at 10:00. I said ok, and asked if I needed to put in my name. She said, no, they don't take reservations, to just come back, should be fine, "mostly busy with car wash." They had a person in the maintenance area, and two people in line for the car wash when I pulled up. I left and ran an errand, and returned at five minutes to 10:00 am. I was waived over and I shared that I was there for a safety check. The woman said to come back at 11:00. I let her know I was asked to return at 10:00 and she said, ok, come back at 10:00 and I let her know it was 10:00 and she looked into my car clock and said, "Oh! well, no, come back at 11:00." I went back and forth with her and learned that on Saturday they do not have anyone, her words, that will start Safety Checks until 11:00 am, that she neither knew who told me that, nor cared, could offer me to wait, but that I would be in the way. My options were: I was able to leave and return at 11:00, or come on another day. Really, this happened today.

Dropped off Sofie for her bath appointment at Itchy Pooch and decided I needed to get my car washed. I had bookmarked Yajima's after reading Peter Y's review last week and knew it was close by but didn't realize it was actually the Cosmo station on the corner of Keeaumoku St and King directly across from LobsterKing. Plus I swear it was a Texaco franchise so I was really off driving back up King Street to the Texaco only to find no car wash. Finally I pulled off the road and rechecked my bookmark and tried again. This time coming down Keeaumoku with Yelp directions it had me pull into the driveway but I was going in the wrong direction of all the other cars. Third try I went back around and pulled into the correct driveway going in the correct direction behind a Jeep driver who just put his hands in the air because he was clueless as to what he was doing too. The man in charge saw us and asked what services we each wanted then directed the Jeep to pull in front of the wash entrance and directed me to the open stall in front of a full service gas pump. As I exited my car one of the workers asked if I wanted gas so I looked at the price which for premium was $5.999 and I shook my head noooo! Maybe next trip I'll have at least a half tank of gas so I won't be taken aback and have my tire pressure checked, my oil checked, my radiator checked, my wiper cleaner checked, etc. as advertised for full service. There's no sign outside for services and the worker asked what I was having done, I told him what I told the first man and asked what the charge was....$35.00 and he advised I could wait inside. Walked in and a young lady was cashiering at the window as I passed so I stood in her small line until she was done with the transaction, paid for the services being done to my car then took a seat. I think the young cashier was an anomaly considering all the complaints I've been reading about the young workers lately. She was professional, engaging and just plain charming. She also spoke Japanese to several of the customers. What a bright spot to this experience. I was called, well not by name but by car as in "black Infinity" and since no one else stood up I knew it was me. As I was exiting the young cashier advised they had some freshly delivered bento's available if I was interested. They did look great but no thank you. I walked out to my car while the worker was finishing the tires...wow impressive job it looked like it just came off the lot. For a business operating on a small corner lot what goes on here is pure efficiency. The workers are bustling, no standing around. They do safety checks, oil changes, and any type of auto-related service including body work and painting. As I said, it's an impressive small business. I will be back as I'm in the area at least twice a month and they do an awesome job.

They also have Cosmo Gasoline and a Carwash

Safety Check in Honolulu, Hawaii... My car needed an annual inspection, so, I searched my Yelp app for a Service Station near my medical appointment. My friend, Daniel C., had written a review for Yajima Service Station - that was good enough for me. I had passed by Yajima Service Station many times. I knew that it was on the corner of King Street and Sheridan Street - before Ke'eaumoku Street. There's a carwash and COSMO Gasoline attached to this service station. I drove in without an appointment and was taken right away. The man asked for my Registration and Auto Insurance cards and requested that I leave the keys in the car. Okay. He got into my car and drove off... LOL! I wandered into the Waiting Area which is like someone's living room. There's a dining table, some sofas, shelves with knick knacks, a refrigerator with cold drinks for purchase, a self-service beverage station, a convenient restroom, some Japanese and English magazines, and a slot machine (?) for entertainment only. The bentos near the entrance looked good for $8. I got one and ate it at home - it was really yummy! Salmon, white rice with Furikake, purple sweet potato, takuan, and shredded flavored daikon with shrimp flakes were all cooked well! I handed the bento to the cashier. She wrapped it neatly in a plastic bag and added the $8 to my Safety Check fee. She politely (with two hands) returned my credit card to me with my new Safety Inspection card. This was an amusing experience! I probably will return in twelve months! I wonder what bento they'll have next time!

They let me use my own OEM oil filter and drain bolt seal. I drive a less popular car and a lot of places don't keep the filter in stock.

No. they have a tip jar next to the register/cashier window. Or you can just hand them the tip when they wave as your car is done.

The truck also has a weird odor inside. I'm not sure why. Absolutely amazing experience working with Da Guy Mobile Repairs…read more I had a horrible time trying to get the oil filter off of my Accord; it was stuck worse than I've ever experienced and, it being my first attempt at a change on this specific model, I didn't realize how stupidly enclosed it was on all sides. After deforming it with various tools, my brother attempted to drive a screwdriver through it as a hail mary. All that did was put a hole in it and leave oil everywhere. He got back to my voicemail as soon as he could, asked for my info and pictures to give me an accurate quote and schedule, then set up a time with me the next morning (on a holiday). The quote was more than reasonable. He showed up, got to work with whatever he could use on the battered filter, but the lack of space and the state I left the filter in proved a challenge. He kept me informed as he was working, then after a while, told me he would leave to get another tool that had helped him in the past. Before he left, he went down the list of scenarios and possible labor cost increase, and I really appreciated that. Fortunately, the tool he went to grab worked on the first try. He put everything back where it needed to be and replaced the zip ties he had to cut to gain more working space. The price stayed as quoted even though it probably took longer than he anticipated, and he even threw on the new filter while he still had my car on his stands. Overall, it was a great experience and I would not hesitate to call on him again for any future needs. Definitely would recommend him to anyone in need of mobile repair.

Really chill and honest guy. Great communication, fast texter, and reliable. And again, since he's mobile, he only charged me $575 for the replacement. I don't know if that's a good price, but it sure is better than $1100. Also, I forgot to mention that I never actually got to meet him. All I know about him is from our experience over text. Basically, since my FIL WFH I set up the appointment and let my FIL do the meet-up and etc. Da Guy quoted me $575 and my FIL double-checked that's what he charged me. Since my last review over five years ago, Uncle James has helped me with an AC leak diagnosis, engine and transmission mount replacements, front and rear brake pads and rotors, a tune-up when my car was bogging, an alternator replacement, radiator replacement (because I cracked it trying to do the alternator myself), and now a transmission filter replacement. Pretty much every major maintenance or repair on my car has been done here, unless it was something I handled myself at home (the only exception being my CV axles that I saw Uncle Alan for at Kaimuki Auto). I'm incredibly thankful for Uncle James and the team for consistently delivering quality work at genuinely fair prices. I recently spent months doing drain-and-fills on my transmission fluid due to slippage driving uphill and hesitation between gears after cold starts. By the third drain, it became obvious the fluid wasn't improving at all. There's a common myth that transmission fluid lasts the "lifetime" of the car, but the reality is, it often doesn't. Just like ignoring oil changes, neglecting transmission fluid can eventually lead to serious (and expensive) repairs. In many cases, transmission work can cost even more than engine repairs. So here I am, trying to address the issue the best way I can. I won't lie, part of me hates that my car is now at the stage where issues pop up once or twice a year. Financially, though, buying a new car just isn't in the cards right now. Uncle James makes it possible for me to keep my car running safely and affordably while I work toward that next step, and I'm sure many others in the community feel the same way. McCully Auto remains my #1 choice for automotive maintenance and repairs. I've never had a bad experience, and I'm deeply grateful for the generosity, honesty, and wisdom Uncle James continues to share. I don't know what I would do without him, honestly.
