Prices have definitely increased, but to me it's still a great bargain considering it's full service and the Employees still work hard to turn over the cars in a timely manner. My car was absolutely filthy from the months of rain and never ending construction on our roadways. My car still had some missed spots on the rims and trunk area but it's nothing to complain about. If you're anal with things like that, I'd definitely recommend just washing the car yourself because then it'll be in your control. But for $50 I was more than satisfied with the work performed. If I lived in the area I would stop by more often since Mililani has really no options with quality car washes. With about 10 cars in front of me, it took 45mins. read more

Some places stop being businesses and quietly become part of a city. McKinley Car Wash is one of those places. I've been coming here on and off for almost thirty years. Every trip back to Hawaii somehow includes a stop here, usually in one of my parents' cars, waiting in line with everyone else while the smell of soap mixes with hot asphalt and exhaust. It's oddly nostalgic. The system works, but it definitely assumes you've been here before. When you pull up, the menu isn't really explained. You're asked a few quick questions about tires, vacuuming or upgrades and before you know it you're being waved forward. If you're trying to understand the difference between services or whether a detail is worth it, don't expect much guidance. The actual wash was good, especially for the price. Coming from Los Angeles, where a proper wash and detail can easily cost well over $100, it's hard to complain. Just don't expect perfection. The interior looked much better, but there was still sand hiding under the kids' car seats and a few corners that were easy to miss. If you have children, prepare yourself for the awkward dance of unloading everyone while deciding whether to let someone else drive your car through the wash. One thing I would recommend. Tip the crew. They work incredibly hard in the Hawaii heat, moving nonstop from one car to the next. No, it isn't a concours level detail. But for a long standing neighborhood institution that gets you in, gets you out and leaves your car noticeably cleaner without emptying your wallet, it's still easy to understand why locals keep coming back. read more

I live on the windward side, so I wish I could come here more often, but the drive across the island keeps me from visiting as much as I'd like. I've brought two different cars here, and both experiences have been excellent. Every employee who worked on my vehicles was incredibly diligent and paid close attention to the details. They clearly take pride in their work, and it shows in the final result. The prices are fair, the quality is consistently great, and I've always left impressed with how clean my cars looked. Been coming here for 3 cars now. Our old BMW ( we donated) now our 2 current cars. The staff welcome you warmly with option for inside detail work /gas for a modest additional cost. Tire check was free and very appreciated. There's a slight wait for the line into the wash system so bring patience. We had a small question regarding our service and management was absolutely fantastic and determined to prove that satisfaction was their highest priority. To the owner of the business: it is ok to hire whoever you want but your people have to do the job properly. If they only act busy and don't do their job, you lose customers. Will never visit this place again. This is not the first time they did this to me. $30 for a half cleaned car. Basically, those people put up an act to look like they did something. The dash and center console were not touched. When I was given my car back, my car was as dusty as when I gave them my car. Then I asked someone to wipe down the dash and that person wiped down the driver's side dash only. The passenger side is still dusty. These people are amazing! I drove up to entrance which has a board with four options and prices. I told the attendant which one I wanted. He said I couldn't get the one I wanted and I had no choice but to get the most expensive one. I said I didn't want that one. He said I had to get the expensive one or I could leave. Ghetto as t can get. I came here out of necessity and convenience. There's a bunch if workers but they are so busy getting off work or on break they no one greets you. I stood at the entrance for a while when the guy worked in a car but he only stared me down for a moment without saying anything. Then after that car he took another. I approached him and asked if anyone is working and if he was going to say anything to me while I stood waiting. He initially tried telling me he's closed. Then he said the cashier may be gone already (I guess they are closing early due to weather) so I fought it and told him I've been here waiting for service. I cannot with this place anymore. I went during the weekday and so barely anyone was here. I was immediately in line for a vacuuming with only one other car ahead of me. All together, to go from arrival to having my car vacuumed to my car on its way on the track into the car wash was less than 10 minutes. So when I went inside to pay it was 1:53 pm. My car was already almost done with the wash and so by about 1:55 my car was outside to get wiped down. There were maybe only like 5 other cars there and more than enough employees to wipe them down. By the time my car was done being wiped, it was 2:15. It took them over 20 minutes, more than twice the time it took to vacuum and wash my car, for them to finish wiping it down. If you like spending half an hour at a car wash, this place might be e for you. The reason for this is because they have no system and keep repeating work. One guy will wipe down the windows and walk away to start wiping another car, and another guy will come up and start wiping the windows all over again because he doesn't know what the last guy did. I swear my tires got wiped down like 3 times by 3 different guys. A girl next to me got so frustrated by how long it was taking she just asked for her car and left. read more

Here goes: 1. drive in (I would head east on Kapiolani from Ward Ave rather than to attempt a left turn on Kapiolani a normally busy boulevard 2. Wait to be called then drive up to where they tell you and stop where they tell you to stop 3. Tell them what type of service you want. You can get the wash, wax and tire cleaning or part of the 3 to choose from 4. drive up to the next stop and put the car in park. Get out of the car because that stop is where they will vacuum and clean the interior of your car (ladies, take your handbag or they will tell you to remove it. I guess they don't want to be accused of anything ... 5. they will wave for you, get in your car and drive to the next stop. Put your car in park, turn off auto windshield wipers and then, get out of the car (again) 6. the enclosed breezeway gives you an opportunity to watch your car get washed and cleaned... 7. next stop is the cashier. Pay for your services and grab a coffee or a cold drink. Better yet, grab and buy some swag... 8. there are 2 tip jars if you so decide to leave a tip. Tips are shared equally amongst all the workers on the lot... 9. Wait patiently as they will wipe down you car, double check the cleanliness of the interior as well as the tires.... In my humble opinion, McKinley is the Best car wash on O'ahu. Three price point options makes this an excellent value for a quality service. If you're coming on the weekend...you can expect a wait. Had time this morning so went to McKinley car wash .weds mornings might be the time to go since most people are in school and work . I was greeted to drive my car in a lane where I could choose my ala cart what service I needed done . My tires were low so I chose the car wash and vacuum, tire dressing so my tires are shiny and tire check / air . They use to be like $16 back in the days but that was awhile ago . They vacuumed my car . Ended up filling my tire air on the house which was nice . I joked with the vacuum cleaners and smiled at them cause I appreciate their hard work . They then drove my car into the car wash scrubbing it down . Parked it outside and started wiping it down . I got to watch my car go thru the car wash . Kids would get a kick out of it if they are there to watch . There is a clean bathroom for your convenience and snacks and drinks to purchase while u pay for your car . The cashier had a great attitude and was smiling. There was even a free McKinley car wash calendar with recipes in it . I had a good experience and while I waited for my car was a chance to network or meet people while waiting for your car . I drove off and started my day with a clean car and ready to slay the day . There always seems to be a huge line, and it can take a minimum of 45 minutes or so (if you're lucky) to get through. They could do a better job with the vacuuming and wiping down the interior, but it's better than getting your run-of-the-mill gas station washes. Note that you need to come through Kapiolani, and not through the alley, as the vehicles are in a specific queue. First time I went here service was amazing. Workers were friendly/kind and did a really good job cleaning. I have tried for hours to get the dog hair out of my floor carpet and seats and they got almost all of it out quickly. Today was my second time everything was good until the vacuuming. I was taking out large trash should it wouldn't clog their vacuums and was taking out my roach traps. I asked this Korean boy wearing a mask if he could vacuum the seats and he snapped at me and said I am vacuuming. When he had the other roach trap in his hand while vacuuming I asked if he wanted me to throw it away. He snapped at me again and mumbled something. Then he didn't even finish vacuuming and left the other guy to finish himself. The older man asked him if he cleaned good. And the young Korean boy snapped at him and said it's too hairy. I looked at the older man and said it's ok thank you for trying to get it all out. Checked my back seat and it still had a bunch of crumbs and stuff on it so I asked the older guy if he could vacuum it since the other boy snapped at me and didn't even do it. The older man was super kind and did it really well for me. I thanked him. Rest of the car wash was great and the other workers were very nice. That was very rude and unprofessional that the young boy snapped at a customer and his coworker. read more

Great, reliable, friendly! I have frequented McKinley Car Wash for years! I like the little shop too, back scratchers and car scent hangers, or a snack...although waiting outside and watching the action is fun after you exit your vehicle. This visit was for a safety check. I have always gone for a wash/vacuum, and an occasional fill up on gas, I never noticed they did safety checks. To get one, you pull in to the very right side. I was the only person, which was great! One person came after me. Quick in-and-out with a small waiting area. I paid across the way in the shop and was on my way. I think the ability to do a safety and a wash may have been tough on a busy day. But I was really glad this worked in my favor for the one thing I needed! read more

Service was 10/10. The men here are quiet , nice and don't bother they just do their work no questions asked. Price was also good for our truck wash and vacuum was quick service as well. My husband brings his work car here to get it cleaned etc. and this was my first time here getting our truck cleaned and my 1st impression and experience was great:). The cattle call that they treat you here is just not worth the effort though there were many circumstances of why not really in totally desperation but just to give them a chance. Exterior wash is now $24 for car/sedan and if you want the full service of vacuum it's $29+ I do totally understand the insane prices but that just goes beyond of the service you now get here. They slam their hands on my car to get my attention rather than approach my open window is no different from hitting me personally...it's one thing that they vacuum your car for you but you do that yourself, it's sad how things have...never again. read more
