A painful experience... literally. I went to this place to have my gel manicure taken off and my nails trimmed. I didn't mind waiting, even though it was a 100 degree day out and there was no noticeable AC in the salon. Sweaty!! But, I DID mind when the man who did the "soak off" process on my nails continually gouged my fingers. First, he was impatient so he kept trying to scrape the polish off too soon, requiring him to press way too hard on my nails. He was careless, rough, and brutal with the metal scraper!! The tops of my nails are still in pain hours later. Second, he slipped and hurt my cuticles several times, and overall was so rushed that I was grimacing in pain the entire time. Third, he kept using his gross yellowy long thumb nails to "test scrape" the polish to see if it was ready, AND his nails were so long that he kept stabbing my hands with them. Both unsanitary and GROSS. Overall, go to their other location, or don't let the little old man come anywhere near your fingers!! read more

I got there and they were kind and welcoming. As I sat down ready to do my nails I could tell I was in for a long appt. when he started filing my nails, it was rough and long, on one spot for a long time on each finger. I thought that could be normal so I didn't say anything to him. When I got home my boyfriend was the one who noticed the blood in almost every cuticle on my fingers from the filing. The lady who did my nails basically rushed through my pedicure, and she did not put cotton between my toes or whatever to keep them apart after she applied the nail polish. They do an AWESOME mani/pedi for a reasonable price, $35. I'm here from Boston for a job interview. I walked right in on a Sun afternoon. They have the massage chairs & do a short massage on your legs and arms with lotion & salt scrub. It was wonderfully paced after being on a plane for 9 hours. I was so grateful. And the music was nice. It was clean & the polishes were in ok shape! A couple things minor things to add that could be improved: they had hockey on which no one was watching which they could have changed (but I didn't ask) to something salon appropriate (I have no idea what that would be). I always forget to grab a magazine & then it's too late so I always appreciate being offered one which would have been nice. Also, I wish they had more Essie nail polishes. The folks who work there weren't super chatty but I'm a chatty person. I was happy to close my eyes & zone out. I saw they were very chatty with folks who went there regularly it seemed. Walked in without an appointment and received the best gel manicure and pedicure ever! The place got really busy shortly after I arrived but the lady doing my nails still took the time to do a thorough job. The manicure was on point, evenly applied and no chip or peeling after almost three weeks of wear (as seen in photo). The pedicure was wonderful as well and they give you a nice hot stone foot massage which was a nice treat. Overall this salon is great at what they do and I will definitely return again. read more

This place damaged my nails. I went in to get my long acrylics taken off and to get a full set gel nail. When taking off my nails they rushed through the process and proceeded to ply off the gel with tweezers and an electrical drill which burned and hurt. This took off some of the natural part of the nail and looked like white splotches on the nail bed. I asked if it was suppose to hurt and the lady laughed and say yea!. Furthermore, she rushed through the process of putting on gel layers and it came out crooked and uneven. After I went home I filed it out to make it look decent. Lesson learned. read more

I came back from a backpacking and rock climbing trip with hands that looked like I had worked in a coal mine without gloves for a week, and Mimi gently, carefully coaxed my hands and nails into glowing health. I am somewhat of an unintentional manicure connoisseur, having gotten my nails done all around the US (weird claim to fame? Lol), and Mimi was truly standout in how gently yet thoroughly she worked. Got a gel manicure before a 10 day vacation - it not only outlasted the vacation but I got the manicure on 8/28 and it is 9/16 (19 days) and I just noticed the smallest very first chip on my left hand. (The index finger of my right hand chipped a few days ago because that finger has significantly more use than any of my other finger nails). This nail salon has gone down hill over time, and now just simply sucks and is a waste of money. I took my daughter in the other day for both of us to get manicure and pedicures. They promptly started on my daughter and sat me in a chair. The water got cold as I waited for one of the three nail technicians to start on me. The nail technician who was servicing my daughter rushed threw the entire process. I ended up not getting a manicure just bc The technician who was doing my pedicure only did pedicures and we didn't want to wait an other 45 to get something done. My daughter asked for beats on her nails and they looked horrible. The nail polish was smeared due to rushing. The chairs are old and very noisy. The place needs a good cleaning. All around bed experience. We will never go back! I recommend anyone looking for a good manicure or pedicure look else where. read more

I went to get a fill and a pedicure. The pedicure was fine. The polish was a little sloppy, but worked. I have white powder on my acrylics for French. The guy cut my nails down(as I asked), but didn't add more white .... I don't understand the logic there. So now the white is thin on my nails. Also, one of my nails already broke. The side has chipped off. I am picky about my nails for the fact that it cost a lot of money ! Not recommended. read more

He was completely rushing to get done and very rough! When we asked to talk to the owner she ignored us and when we asked for someone different to do the nails they ignored us again. I got a French mani here for $20 and expected the manicure to last for at least 2 weeks. Unfortunately, it only lasted for 3 days before it started to crack and chip. I have been coming to Y2K in downtown Davis for the past 3 years and have never had a problem. The owner is my primary nail lady, her name is Heidi. She is the owner of this shop along with her husband. They are the sweetest people and have the best staff- I have seen the same people there as opposed to other salons that have fast turn around times with their staff. I come for gel manicures that run for $30 and $25 for pedicures; they use OPI and Gelish for their gel, both great brands and have plenty of colors to choose from. They are constantly cleaning which is another reason why this salon had my heart; I have a strong phobia against dirty salons. Over all, I just wanted to express how much I love this salon in hopes that it may inspire others to come too. Not that this place doesn't get business, it's is usually busy. I have been coming to Y2K nails for several years, I even had them do something special for me for my wedding! The customer service has always been great, they remember me and how I like my massage and pedicure a certain way. They do an amazing job and I can always count on my pedicure lasting a whole month before I start to see any chips. The prices are very affordable for the amount of time that your nails last (hello $35 for a mani AND a pedi? That's a great deal!) My greatest tip when coming to get your nails done here (because you absolutely should if you are in the area) is to make an appointment because they do get busy! However if you have an appointment you have priority and are seen right away. Even if you make the appointment 30 minutes in advance, they can always get you on their books and see you as soon as you come in for your appointment. My last tip is to come to THIS location on G st and not their other location on Cowell. Although they have the same name they don't have the same standards and this location is by far amazing and a nice relaxing atmosphere. All in all I highly suggest them! read more

I've been to this place a couple times. They always seem to rush through my manicure and pedicure. At the end of your manicure, they will ask you if u wanna add a flower. The first time I was there, they asked me so nicely and made it sound like it's free so of course I said yes. But it's $5 for a super tiny simple little flower that I can draw on by myself. The man who did my pedicure tried his best, the massage was very quick and the quality of the gel polish was awful I don't think it was his fault. I got a color change on my nails assuming it would range $7-$10 because that was the price listed. To find out later I would be charged $20 for a Color change not even a manicure. I thought it was very unprofessional they should of told me In advance that they would charge $20 for a gel color change instead of the price listed, keep in mind I took my polish off myself, so they charged me $20 for just painting my nails with gel paint. I thought this place was great. I went in to get gel on my finger (and toe) nails, without an appointment. They accommodated my request and the service was great. The ladies were joking with me and seemed relatively friendly. I like the downtown location as well. My only complaint is that when you tip at the end, they yell out the amount, ie "5 dollars!" or "10 dollars!". It must be something they do regularly because it happened to a friend of mine too...weird! read more
