I didn't get the name of the hair stylist who works here, but she did an amazing job on my hair and it was overall a great experience! I live super close to this place so I decided to pop in on a Saturday morning and see if they'd be able to get me in that day, but with it being the weekend I also was expecting to make an appointment for a different day or time. I told her I only needed a haircut, and it must've been serendipitous timing, because she asked if I could wait about 10 mins and then she could do my hair. They had the great british baking show on so I was perfectly content watching that while I waited for my turn. I get nervous about haircuts because in the past, I'll show pictures and usually get what the pic shows, but it ends up not working for my hair. This was the opposite! I showed a couple pictures, we clarified a few details, she told me what would work with my finer hair and she was off! She took off at least 5 inches (my hair was super long) & took only 30-40 minutes to finish the cut and do a quick style with a straightener. It was one of the easiest and most relaxing haircuts I've had in a while and I LOVE how it turned out! It was a great price too, I'll definitely be back to get nails done here as well. I can't believe I have not reviewed this ship yet. I've been going there for at least two years! The shop is run by two sisters. They are both lovely people and very professional. I make my appointments in advance and they are always on time. I have gone to Tiena for gel, manicures, gel, pedicures, and root touchups for my hair. My husband also gets regular haircuts by Devon. The thing thar sets them apart from everyone else is quality. They genuinely care about their customers. I have had recurring problems with ingrown toenails for my entire life. Tiena convinced me to just let her handle them. All this meant was regular pedicures where she did the shaping. No, she didn't perform surgery or anything, it was just simply about making sure the nail was the right shape so it didn't grow into my toe. I trusted her and I stopped messing with them myself. Leave it to a professional! I have not had ingrowns for two years now. What a difference! I was also a ichronic nailbiter. OMG my fingers were ugly stumps. Tiena told me that if I let her give me manicures for a few months, it would make me stop biting my nails. And she was absolutely right. I no longer bite my nails-- and I no longer need the manicures to keep them out of my mouth! (i'm not a fussy girl who wears a lot of nail polish, so regular manicures don't really work for my schedule) They recently moved to a new location. It's a beautiful spacious building downtown at G St. and fifth. They've also completely refurnished everything with new comfy chairs and a super comfy wash station! It's a great place! Someone from Nextdoor recommended this place after my search for an Asian hair stylist. Naturally, I checked Yelp for reviews. The reviews were mostly positive but I am weary of establishments that have minimal reviews.... However, Asian stylists seem hard to come by so I decided to give it a chance especially since the person on Nextdoor and the Yelp reviews all had great things to say about Devon AND it was so close to home. Made a call around 1330 on a Monday and the lady who answered the phone was so nice and scheduled me an appt for 1430 that same day. When I arrived, Devon greeted me right away. It's a rather small salon and only one other client was there getting a pedicure. The place looked fairly clean and very soothing instrumental cover songs were playing in the background. Devon asked me what I wanted and I showed her picture references. She asked a lot of questions for clarification and gave some feedback. She made small talk in the beginning and the rest of the time was quiet. I almost fell asleep at how gentle she was with my hair/head and with the background music.... I'm surprised I didn't. I appreciated the time to just relax and not have to converse with anyone. I liked her technique and she seemed to really take her time. She asked if I wanted a wash or for my hair to be styled at the end. I opted for no wash since I just showered and asked for a blow dry. The entire process took about 40 minutes. I was very happy with the end result and Devon gave me suggestions on how to style it. I paid via Venmo which came to be $50! Way better pricing compared to where I used to go downtown. If you're an introvert or looking for a no-frill salon with a relaxing environment, I highly suggest this place. read more

She's knowledgeable, and knows what looks best with your hair texture. If she's not available, Tiana can also whip up a nice hairstyle for you. I've never had my hair done by her, but I've seen her working on other customers' hair and nails; they always seem extremely content. Now, on to the nails... Patricia is the technician that worked on my nails. Between hand washing, sanitizing, and staying warm in front of a heater...my hands get crazy dry. Needless to say, my hands/nails are always in need of major TLC. Patricia is extremely attentive. She'll take her time to work on your nails, and make them look beautiful. Last spring, when I had my nails done by her, she asked if I wanted any designs on them. I think I nodded and said "sure!" I didn't know what I was getting myself into, but I trusted her, and she surprised me by painting these beautiful flowers on my nails and toenails (I've included pix of those here too). It made me so happy to look at them :) So for my birthday this year, I decided that I wanted some flowers on my nails again. She took the creative liberty to paint her signature flowers on each of my nails. They look so dainty and cute! - even my sister, and my brother in law were impressed by her designs. I was so happy to have found that she is at this new location because I have been going to her for years. Even though I moved out to San Francisco I still drive back monthly to get my eyebrows done by her. She is the epitome of great customer service!! In addition to the amazing eyebrow waxing done by Nu, I had a great experience getting a gel manicure at the salon. The price is reasonable, it is only $25! And they turned out great! If you're looking for a reasonably price nail salon or waxing spot definitely check out InStyle hair and nails. I'm so glad to have found this place! It is modern looking and very clean and sanitary. I got my acrylics removed from this place because I wanted to let my nails get a rest from always getting a manicure. It was close to my place so I decided to give it a try. The lady who helped me was very rough when taking the acrylic nails off. There was a time where I had to yank my hand out because she jammed her nail into my cuticle very badly. I asked to get a top coat so that my nails don't look as bad but she insisted on just letting my nails breathe. I agreed, however she didn't even make sure my nails were cut evenly. I've been to a LOT of nail salons in Davis. I'm talking monthly trips to a different salon every time, because nothing satisfied me. I came back here a second time - that's rare. They're the only place that does SNS/dip powder for non-acrylics and with color (AKA no gel afterward to get the color on there). They're tiny, yet very talented. I've truly found my winner. My only complaint is that it's very small and there's limited staff, so walk-ins are almost impossible. You have to make an appointment earlier in the day. The technicians are the nicest, and they'll explain everything to you. The color options are not as limited as you might imagine, and the owner is very forward-thinking when it comes to nails. She's always at the forefront of trying new things, and that's what attracts me to InStyle. read more

I wasn't going to leave a review but holy wow I was so impressed that I just have to. This isnt my first time coming to instyle, but Ive never experienced a service such as this. I got a manicure pedicure with acrylic dip. It was $65 and worth every penny. The lady who took care of me took an hour and a half to make sure every single part of my manicure was absolutely perfect. The shape fits my nails perfectly, and it's been eight days and not a single chip. It doesn't even look grown out yet at all! I've never had such a good experience and if I wasn't a broke college student I would've tipped her a lot more than I was able to. I'm so sad I moved back to SoCal and I will never get to experience such a great service again but thank you instyle! read more

I had the WORST experience with this salon. I have been a regular client for haircuts, face massages, and other services. I always paid in cash since Divonne prefered it. I was quite satisfied with their services. Then about a year ago, all of a sudden, without any explaination, EVERYTIME I asked for an appointment, I was told by both Tiana and Divonne that they were TOO BUSY, even weeks ahead. Since they never returned my phone calls, I went to their salon in person, again, to be told they were too busy! This went on for months. I liked the way Divonne cut my hair, so I tried again and again to make an appointment - to no avail - Finally 10 days ago, again I went to make an appointment in person. Tiana was there. She finally, reluctantly, gave me an appointment for tomorrow - April 13- this morning Tiana called me saying that Divonne had other commitments and she canceled the appointment. I asked Tiana if SHE could give me a hair trim. She never called me back. I'm disappointed and angry at the treatement I received.
