I had a pleasant time getting my nails done here. Very warm and inviting with plenty of conversation amongst everyone. Mask mandatory. Nancy did my gel manicure and gel pedicure both French tips. She was super nice, took her time, and was very intent on making sure I was comfortable. For example, confirming water temperature for soaking my feet and being gentle with pressure when filing my nails. This was especially important because my nails were very damaged, sensitive, and short from having acrylics prior. This was my first time here and I will be returning. read more

Last minute decided to get my nails done for my trip to Hawaii. Came in Friday midday and waited about 10 minutes to get sat. It was super busy but the employees were very nice. $45 for a gel acrylic set. Definitely coming back. read more

Even when they're busy they don't rush you out or rush to finish your pedicure or manicure. They asked my name and even though they were short staffed they connected with me and made sure everything was to my liking. Definitely recommend coming here to relax and recoop, not to mention your nails will come out looking amazing. Thanks to all the workers here they are so hard-working yet laid-back. WHY DO I KEEP COMING BACK HERE?? This is even worse than last time LOL. I keep giving First Lady the benefit of the doubt because of how much everyone else loves them, but I legit never have a good experience here. We made an appointment for 1:30PM and arrived on time. Pretty packed with more people coming in by the minute. They appear to overestimate the number of people they can service, because they kept adding people onto their list when they were already full. These nails are HELLA sloppy. She filed them super quickly and when I asked her to correct them, she said that they were just supposed to look like that. GIRL........... I know these aren't supposed to have ragged edges like that. The bottom is so rough and they didn't even file down my natural nail. I gave her a reference picture of what I wanted, and she said she could do it. What I didn't know was that she only had rose-gold foil, not gold. Not a huge deal but misleading, since she put on the white polish before I knew. I had to keep asking her to adjust the gold lines so that they weren't crooked... I could tell that she was frustrated and trying to get me out of there, but HONESTLY, THAT'S MY MONEY LOL. If I'm going to pay a whole extra $6 for these tiny gold stickers, I want to make sure they're perfect. My nail tech cut them wonky anyways, they don't go over the whole nail. And even when she put UV-treated top coat over them, they started peeling off the next day. My friend was unhappy with her nails, too. Her nail tech was rough filing her cuticles and all her nails are different shapes... She said that the worker was also speeding through her gel nails on her left side, applying the polish all streaky and not even fully covering the whole nail. The staff at First Lady seem like they treat their regulars way better. The same nail tech who was rushing my friend's nails was suddenly able to use precise, gentle brush strokes when a familiar customer came in. I get it that you have to keep your regular clientele happy, but y'all should care about new business, too. read more

I felt very unwelcome in this nail salon and received probably one of the worst dip manicures in my experience. Came with a group of friends. The lady insisted on helping one of my friends instead, but she went with another nail tech. So she was visibly upset to work with me (for a reason unbeknownst to me). Anyway, we sat there in silence while she tried using dirty tools, did not properly prep my hands, take care of my cuticles, or anything. She quickly and carelessly did the dip, while messing up and leaving dents in some of my nails and lots of polish on my skin and under my finger nails. I was the first one done out of my group of friends and paid just as much as the other girl who got a much more complicated set that took longer. She was happy when I tipped well in cash, despite her less than average service. read more

For the experience I did have, a full 5 stars. First, the bad. I called a week in advance to make an appointment with Victoria, who Yelpers seem to love. I arrive, say I have an appointment with Victoria, the staff look at each other in confusion, then proceed to ask who took my call because Victoria wasn't working that day. Not the best start to my first visit. Despite the mix-up, I left with a beautiful gel manicure. The nail technician helped me achieve my desired look, her station clean, and took the time to show me different polish options after my manicure was complete. Plus she was a delight to talk to about life in Davis. I plan to return to First Lady Nails. I got their business card but noticed too late the stamp card boxes on the reverse for a bonus service. Next time I'll be sure to get it stamped! read more

Perfect manicure by Helen. I love white nails but every tiny imperfection would show. If the polish is too thick or the white is applied uneven, or the edges aren't perfect, it would show. Helen took her time to give me a PERFECT manicure, even by my very picky standards. read more

Nice place, calming music and water sounds. Clean areas. I got the "everything" #4 pedicure here, with gel polish; $67 total, pretty common for the area. Good color selection and prompt service. The foot spas had the disposable liners . Lotions, scrubs, masks, and massage were all nice. The callus removal part is a bit oversold. Overall the paint job was good. Three stars because even after specifying that I would like the feet scrubbed more than anything the technician barely scrubbed the feet, the focus was really the calf area. I do understand that this is a minor thing. A bigger thing was the technician also had a tendency to cut much too much skin around the little toes, to the point where several of mine are raw and still oozing the next day. read more

Soo I usually don't really get my nails done especially acrylics because I thought they never really looked flattering on my hands but when I tell you Kelly worked some serious magic!! She did my acrylic set and I'm in love with them! It has only been two days since she has done them and I have had so many compliments already. Kelly is a perfectionist and will make sure that you are satisfied with your nails by the end of the appointment. I also really love her energy and talking to her was an absolute delight! And might I say all of the other workers have also been very sweet to me, and I overall love the vibe of the shop. This is definitely going to be my go to spot. Thank you Kelly!! read more

This has been my go to nail salon for years, and my review is long overdue. The staff are so sweet and attentive. I had an appointment for a pedicure with Eddie but due to an emergency he wasn't available when I arrived. They set me up with Tina instead, who was fantastic. They always remember me, and ask me about my friend that I often go with. They can give you exactly what you want if you communicate! I always get a basic pedi with callous removal, because my feet are super dry and prone to callousing. I'll probably never go to another nail salon because I love this place and want them to be around forever. read more

I came back to Davis to the surprise that Victoria no longer works here. I decided to still give them a chance and I am kind of sad I did. I went in for a new set and when she was trying to take off the acrylic with a plastic nail I kept telling her it hurt and she kept trying, until she just couldn't anymore. Anyways, my nails are SO UNEVEN, thick, bumpy, and the polish is also not great. I also left w acrylic and polish all around my fingers. I am so unhappy and unsatisfied. I'll be paying the Uber fare to woodland in 2 weeks because the state of my nails is NOT cute. I was also never asked what shape I wanted. AND none of my nails look the same and some are just crooked. Like is the shape square or coffin bc it looks like neither. Waste of $50 and an hour and a half. read more

Finally found my go-to nail salon in Davis!!! I've gotten full sets and fills done in other salons in Davis but was never really satisfied. Plus the prices are overboard in other salons. Victoria did my fill here and I loved it! She was quick but did a neat job. Victoria was able to accommodate my almond shape request but make it short enough so that I could still write my notes. Plus she says she charges less than other salons because most of her clients are students. What a sweetheart! (Acrylic fill with gel is $28) I came in on a Tuesday 4pm and there were no clients so I didn't have to wait. I didn't request Victoria when I called over the phone and i may have disturbed her break by requesting her on the spot, so make sure to call ahead :) Only con was that filing was a little rough at times but it didn't make me bleed like other places did. I'm overjoyed to have found this hidden gem and hopefully more people will come to this newly owned salon! They also do eyelash extensions for a reasonable price so I may come back for that as well :) read more

I came in for an acrylic full set, there was no wait & they followed guidelines for covid-19. They made me take my temperature and sanitize my hands when I came in & the store was very clean. Ly did my acrylic nails and she was very friendly! She couldn't do designs/3D flowers so I asked for rhinestones instead. My set was $56 which is not bad compared to other places in davis (I went to Davis nails and paid $60 for a plain acrylic set!!!) I would definitely come back here next time. read more

Came here based on a friends suggestion today and was able to be be seated within 15 min of arriving. I wish i couldve made an appointment with Victoria, as the other reviews suggested but she was booked at the time i came in. I didnt get the name of the lady who did my nails but she was alright. I wish my acrylics were slightly thinner but they look pretty good. Its just i wish she had a greater attention to detail cause i asked for a straight shape with slightly rounded edges and some nails kinda look like the coffin style which i dont like. They have a great color selection for regular and gel polishes so you can get exactly what youre looking for. Id come here once in a while but wouldnt make it my go to nail place for davis. Once the gel color was applied, I asked for what I thought was a fairly simple leaf design. The first attempt unfortunately looked very messy and uneven--almost like a child had drawn the leaves. I ended up waiting for another technician to finish her client so she could redo the design. The second tech did improve it, but the process took much longer than expected. Overall, the solid color gel application was fine, but it seems like more practice may be needed for nail art designs.

There is a new owner and nail tech in town! Victoria started doing my nails last year when I was having nothing but trouble with lifting. One appointment and I was smitten. Not only does she do fabulous work, but she's professional, friendly and incredibly fast. The art work she does is freehand and very creative. They look just as great going for a fill and when I left with a new set. When she left the Crystal Salon in Rancho Cordova, where I went on my lunch hour, I was devastated. Lucky me, thanks to Yelp I found her here in Davis. The professional in her didn't allow her to let her customers know, we had to hunt her down. Her and her husband Duke purchased First Lady and have been putting lots of time and investment into turning it in to a first class salon. It's extremely clean and welcoming. The location is super convenient for those in Davis, Woodland and the surrounding areas on the corner of Covell and Poleline (Road 102) in the Nugget shopping center. But I have friends coming from as far as Elk Grove, Rancho, etc. just because of the quality of her work. She also does pedicures, waxing and eyelashes as well. Don't be persuaded by the past comments this shop is under New Ownership and she will have this place backed in no time, friendly clean and Victoria does absolutely amazing work and is quick. I requested a full removal of builder gel, a trim back down to my natural nail length, and then a regular gel polish. The removal itself was fine, but I did feel a little uneasy because the technician using the electric drill was frequently looking away from my nails while the drill was still pressed down. Once the gel color was applied, I asked for what I thought was a fairly simple leaf design. The first attempt unfortunately looked very messy and uneven--almost like a child had drawn the leaves. I ended up waiting for another technician to finish her client so she could redo the design. The second tech did improve it, but the process took much longer than expected. Overall, the solid color gel application was fine, but it seems like more practice may be needed for nail art designs.

Unfortunately, my last two visits completely changed my opinion. During the first visit, the nail technician repeatedly cut the skin around my fingernails and toenails, causing me to bleed several times. He did apologize, but I was surprised that no discount or adjustment was offered after I was injured during both my manicure and pedicure. I did not complain at the time because I did not want to be confrontational, and since it was my first bad experience there, I decided to give the salon another chance. During my next visit, everything seemed to go smoothly. However, about a week later, I began experiencing severe pain in my big toe and realized I had developed an ingrown toenail. Soon afterward, several other toes began hurting as well. Because I walk frequently for work, the pain became extremely difficult to manage, and I eventually made an appointment with a podiatrist. After examining my feet, the podiatrist found that I had nine ingrown toenails and was also showing early signs of a fungal infection. I cannot say with complete certainty where the fungal issue originated, but these problems appeared shortly after my pedicure, and I had not experienced anything like this before. I had remained loyal to this salon because of my previous positive experiences, but after being cut repeatedly during one visit and then dealing with multiple painful ingrown toenails after the next, I no longer feel comfortable returning. I am sharing this review so other customers can make an informed decision and be cautious about how their nails are being trimmed.
