Amazing service and such efficiency! I was a walk-in and wanted a gel mani pedi for a same-day event. The salon was already pretty full so I expected a wait but I was pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately! The manicure and pedicure were done at the same time meaning I was in and out in about 1.5 hours. The staff here are so nice and were very accommodating of my requests for custom nail art and had my inspo picture up the entire time for their reference. It took a few tries to find the right green color but I never felt rushed or pressured to make a decision. This is the first salon I've been to that truly took extra time at the end of the manicure to freshen up the gel edges and make sure my skin was clean (not all places do this!!). Plus their prices are very reasonable for the Davis area. I would come back!! read more

I had the most horrible experience here, save your money and go literally anywhere else in Davis. The first time I came here was with my Girl Scout troop over 15 years ago and I thought it was so luxurious but omg not anymore. First of all I signed in and requested a gel French manicure (pretty basic), and a pedicure. I'd grown my nails out all summer and my last manicure had been a gel manicure about four weeks before coming in and the girl used a drill to remove the gel and on the third nail (my middle finger in the picture) she drilled so hard that she went straight through the nail bed and cracked it. Which hurt and she apologized and I said it's ok After removing all the polish she started to change the drill bit to further grind my nails and I asked if she could just use the file and not drill anymore. Pretty reasonable request considered she'd just drilled down all of my nails. She acted like that request was like id just spit on her and she gave so much attitude from that moment on. She frustratingly said it's the same thing!! And then proceeded to be super rough with the nail file just to prove her point. She also kept pressing on my weak nails and speaking to the girl doing my toes but not saying anything to me. Then she asked what I wanted and when I said French tip she literally rolled her eyes. So I said oh, never mind u can just do the base color no French tip... because why the f would I ask anyone to do anything the just rolled their eyes at... and then everything just got so much worse. She at one point asked if I wanted a manicure and I said isn't that what you're doing? She had such bad energy. At the end she just put a clear coat on them and didnt shape them at all, they were just as jagged as they had been when I walked in and you can see from the pic she didn't do anything to my cuticles. Now two of my nails are broken and I have to go somewhere else for what I asked for. I even started crying when I left and Jenny who all the good reviews are about tried saving it and filed some of them that were clearly jagged but it was so bad. I'm not a rude person and got treated so bad. It sucks to see long time Davis businesses go down hill and get scammed in your own hometown. Ive lived in LA and SF since leaving Davis and would've been cautious about it this type of experience in the city, but not at Ara Spa. If you can't use a nail file then you shouldn't be charging patrons for a manicure. I still paid 68 dollars and not offered any discount. read more

I've been getting my nails done at Ara Spa for some time, and I can't say I'm unhappy with the quality of the services--they're pretty skilled at what they do, although sometimes they're in a rush. What ultimately made me stop going, however, was the constant pressure to pay in cash. One staff member (who I believe may be the owner) repeatedly asked me to pay cash, even making comments like, "Next time pay cash," whenever I used my credit card; or asking as soon as my service was over, "You're paying cash, right?" Nowadays, many people rarely carry cash, and virtually every business accepts credit cards or Apple Pay without making customers feel uncomfortable. I found the repeated insistence on cash payments very inappropriate and off-putting. I was also uncomfortable with the attitude toward tipping. If you don't leave what they consider a sufficient tip, they make it very obvious. On one occasion I accidentally entered a 10-cent tip instead of $10 when paying by card, and the same woman actually ran after me on the street to point it out. While I understand that the mistake needed to be corrected, the overall experience reinforced the feeling that customers are being pressured. Tipping is appreciated, but it should never feel mandatory or be a source of embarrassment. Considering that I typically spent close to $100 per visit and always tipped generously, I found this approach disappointing. In the end, I decided to take my business elsewhere. The service may be good, but customer experience is about more than just the quality of the manicure. read more

I went to ara two weeks ago to get an acrylic nail set done. I've gone here a few times before this visit and go to Jenny who is wonderful. But this visit she wasn't there so i had someone else do my nails. This lady was rude the entire time, she was harsh and yanked on my arms/hands roughly. Typically my nail appointments are an hour at most but this one was two hours and normally I wouldn't complain about that except that for those two hours she was rude and rough. At the end she told me it was $98 for this set. I was baffled so I asked her why and she told me all the coats. Including the flower design was $20 extra. If she had mentioned that during the nail painting before I got the flower painted on I would have said no thank you because $20?!! But she failed to inform me of the cost before hand so I ended up paying $20 for it. Typically the other ladies there tell me the price and cost of things before they do them just to let me know. But this lady did not so I was stuck paying $98 for this set which broke and are still breaking not even 2 weeks after getting them done. read more

I had a regular in LA and I thought that was good but my recent nail experiences from here have changed my standard for quality! Jenny is so kind, quick, and accommodating!
