    Cauliflower and potatoes mole

Wait, presentation, ambiance and service were very good. Food is definitely different if you like southern Oaxaca style food. Or adventurous to try insects. The mole is different that Monterrey style mole. I loved the Sangria and Cauliflower. Valet is $12.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Xochi. The food, the drinks and our server Francisco were exceptional. We cannot wait to come back!

Food was fresh and unique. Flavorful and delicious...will definitely be back. Easy access from Marriott downtown, but also a great stop if you're anywhere downtown! The backstreet old fashion was delicious! Service was great!

Every time I come here it does not disappoint. Food is authentic in flavor but elevated in presentation. The service is fantastic every time and the ambiance, although has changed a bit is classy, clean and comfortable.

Yelp does not have enough stars for this spot! Five is not enough. Take your taste buds for a culinary cruise! Amazing service, even better food, and a cool spot to just hang out and have a beer. The food is a 12 out of 10! Highly recommend this place. Oysters were awesome. Infladita - amazing. Tacos de Cabrito (goat) - exquisite! This is a must return to spot. Just wow.

Finally got to try Xochi! This restaurant is such a vibe. Dined at the bar. Service was excellent & prompt. Requested expedited service since we were on a time crunch. Enjoyed my Xochi-rita! Saw a Yelp pic and it made me want to order the Barbacoa de Res en Zaachila. Super delicious! I can't wait to come back to Xochi to try other food and drinks!

With plethora of options for Mexican food in Houston, Xochi takes you on a majestic ride for an authentic yet fine dining experience. Right from the wide variety of mocktails, to authentic preparations that are served beautifully which satisfy you even before it touches your taste buds. The food is even tastier they then how they serve it. They have a brunch service too which is my favorite, since they serve some of the best chilaquiles in town. The ambiance is amazing too, and makes a great choice due to its location and proximity to Discovery Green.

Very delicious food. The service was friendly. The location is nice and convenient, especially if you're there at the convention. They usually have a lot of open spots during lunch but hard to get a table during dinner so I recommend getting a reservation ahead of time.

    Guacamole y Tostadas Dinner

Found myself in downtown Houston for one night and was able to walk in on a friend's recommendation without a reservation. We started with the shrimp empanadas (not pictured) and they were incredible. Perfect thickness of an empanada crust with a generous prawn filling. I'm a fast eater and made sure to take smaller bites so that I could really enjoy them since they only came with three on a plate. I also wanted to make sure to try both the habanero and verde dips. This was an all around great starter and I'm still thinking about them days later and probably could've eaten two orders to myself. To drink, I ordered the mango & chile margarita cocktail which I expected to taste more like a spicy margarita than mango nectar but still a great beverage. I would not be able to have more than one due to its sweetness but it was a great sipping cocktail to pair with dinner. The guacamole and chips were delicious. Great to have on the table while waiting for our mains. For our entrees we ordered the rolled tenderloin and the braised beef cheeks. The tenderloin tasted more like a chorizo which is not my favorite meat, but everything else on the plate was cooked to perfection and plated thoughtfully. The carrots, potato, and masa dumplings were an adventure each of their own with distinct and enjoyable flavors. This was another one where I took my time with each bite. The braised beef cheeks were soft, saucy, and juicy stars of the night (along with the empanadas). They are an unassuming, casual, yet decadent dish that I'd be happy to order again when craving the fancy meats. Had I not been beat up from 5am work days this week I would've stayed for the chocolate pod dessert (I hear it's a must.) Just another reason to return to Houston.

    Mole Sampler

Xochi is stellar! First time having purely Oaxacan cuisine and it was great. You MUST start with the Mole sampler; I didn't even know so many varieties of Mole exist! They were all delish and so different from each other, yet I couldn't pick a favorite because I loved them all. For my main I had the Barbacoa de Res de Zaachila which I really enjoyed. The rolled tenderloin was really cool and it was just a well rounded dish. For dessert if I'm gonna get anything here it's gonna be chocolate. So we got the Cremoso de Chocolate, some Mexican Hot Chocolate, and Churros on the side. Everything was fire and I would have again.

    Adhrit S.

Great ambiance, unique food, and solid staff. I love trying new foods and I got exactly that. The server took the time to explain the menu which was great. The desserts were the stars of the show - the entire cacao pod was made of chocolate!

    Memela de Pollo

Pro-tip: Happy Hour is 4-6 PM on week days. Great deals on cocktails and appetizers (around $9 each). Oh! And keep in mind! Valet is NOT included and will be charged on your bill ($12). Staff is incredibly welcoming and helpful! All are so attentive and happy to accommodate. If you have a question, definitely don't shy away from asking. The ambiance is relaxing, offering a modern Oaxacan vibe. We ordered a great array of appetizers off the happy hour menu, with the Memelita de Pollo being the favorite. I do wonder about how fresh the ingredients are, though, because the shrimp on the Tostada de Camarón seemed like it was cooked for too long and there wasn't much flavor to it, and the Costillas de Puerco seemed a bit on the dry side.

This was another restaurant we did for our anniversary. Let's just say this, "Just Go, you need this in your life." We were seated the second we got there based upon our reservation and our server made our experience special. The restaurant is modern, and the bar is beautiful, the food is contemporary Mexican cuisine with deep history for its foundation. I have had Moles in my day and then there is Xochi, authentic Oaxacan Mole, deep flavors, earthy complexities that remind you that you're from her and everything inside it is grown from her. It's a humbling experience. My wife and I enjoyed the goat, chicken and the fries tortillas and hot food followed by the delicious desserts.

    How much is brunch?

    It is $45 for adults

What is the price for the brunch in Sunday?

    It is $45 for adults

Do they have bottomless mimosas for the brunch buffet or something similar?

They have bottomless coffee included with the brunch price but not mimosas- those are separate.

What is the dress code for dinner at Xochi?

I went here yesterday. Casual dress code is fine, but something nice.

    Is brunch or dinner better?

Never tried their brunch but the dinner was amazing!

Is this a kid-friendly restaurant? Especially curious about dinner. Age wise, 8 year old and 6 year old that are well-behaved, sit still, and enjoy all sorts of cuisine. Thanks!

Well behaved kids with adventurous palates should be fine there. It can be pretty noisy so it doesn't have the fine dining intimate setting that people usually avoid bringing kids to. Side note - make sure to get the huitlacoche tamal!

Where can someone who has trouble walking park?

The restaurant has valet in addition to parking along the street or a lot across the street

    Is this place dog friendly?

The restaurant is located inside Marriott Marquis Houston, and pets are not allowed inside the hotel whatsoever.

Do they allow to split checks for large groups?

Yes they do. We had a party of 9 and we all paid our own tabs.

A place I grew up in as a little girl in Beaumont but never have I've visit this "original" location. Stepping in to this spot felt like a restaurant in the country of Mexico. I ordered the El Henry. I absolutely loved my dish, only thing I would've chance was the cheese enchilada definitely would've swap for a chicken or beef one, or maybe even a flaunta. I really like the Mexican rice, it had little potatoes and carrots in it. Some of the best Mexican yellow rice I've had. They offer a cinco de mayo drink special. The only thing that seem to make it special was the drinks apparently were limited edition menu items. Nothing was special about the prices. The regular menu drinks were a dollar(s) less. The margarita I ordered first was peach coconut. I didn't taste the coconut at all. I swap for the peach strawberry ($14 or 15) which was great, sweet& strong. One did me just right. You get to select up to two flavors for additional $2 (for both verse each, that's a plus. Not worded on menu). If you select a third flavor an additional $2 would be added ($4 in total) I appreciate separate tickets provided after confirmation and no additional gratuity automatically added, which he got tip equally the same or more. When asked about the "empty" patio that was available, he informed us that the entire deck was reserved. Upon departing I noticed from the parking lot individual tables, of separate parties were occupying only 3 tables. It was 8 of us sitting at 2 tables. Which the table was pushed up against the wall, and one side was inaccessible, which took away spacing. Service was lovely space was really tight. Good thing some of the ladies didn't order full meals. Definitely wouldn't have been able to fit every plate.

Ambiance: upon walking in, it was chaos and sooooo many people standing up and sitting down. Walking around with drinks. I felt like I was in a club. A server made her way to me to take my Togo order. While waiting, I grabbed a drink at the bar and just made the happy hour cut off. Service was great as I was able to get my order and it was a large order. Everything was correct. The house margarita was ok, I wish I had gotten the hibiscus flavor. Order; Crab Tostadas Mixed Fajitas Snapper Mole Enchilada Ninfa 2 Tacos Margarita Mix The only thing I would order again is the crab tostadas and the beef fajitas. The chicken had no flavor at all. The charros beans and rice were not anything special. I was not a fan of either. Overall, we are not planning to order from here again. It just wasn't what Mark Weins made it seem like on his review. Also, whoever the driver was practically could not wait for me to turn around. Sorry, I had to take a pic. Very rude.

For drinks, my husband and our friends tried some of the margaritas from their large and unique margaritas menu, as well as their hibiscus agua fresca. The chips were on the thicker side, but were crispy and not stale or chewy at all. Each of the salsas were quite different, and two were served warm, which we really liked! For the price, I'd consider getting the chips and salsa as a non-negotiable, honestly. For entrees, we tried the enchilada rojas, chilaquiles verde w/ chicken and beef, birria barbacoa ramen, and huaraches. My husband felt like his ramen could have included more meat, but aside from that everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. The highlight was probably the desserts, though! We got a quatro leches and two ordered of their giant and amazing churros. Both were incredibly tasty and reason enough to return for another visit in the future!

We also got the "Tiradito de Hamachi" crudo, which was fresh and delicious! For the entree, my friend and I shared the tacos (which comes with your choice of 3). We added an extra taco to make it 4. I ended up just removing the strawberries and eating the cake, which was moist and flavorful. The only downside for me was the drinks. I don't think it's on the menu And to finish, personally I like cocktails but their fresh filled churros are super fun. And can't beat the fresh factor! Brandon is an excellent attentive server. He knows the menu in and out. He'll steer you right. It's a neighborhood gem

Rodrigo & Araceli were amazing, ensuring everything was going smoothly and according to plan. Our servers Augusto and Christian, were very attentive, kind, and on point with our food and drinks. Food was exquisite and portions were generous, cooked to perfection. The churros with chocolate and the complimentary photos for the birthday girls was the cherry on top. Ambriza's management & staff truly know how to make their guests feel special. They went above and beyond, exceeding all of our expectations. Definitely having more celebrations here in the future! A Cali girl-lala enjoying some Tex Mex…read more While in HTX I was able to meet up with a friend from college. He mentioned margaritas (not pictured) and food! So we met at Candente. Upon walking in the restaurant was clean it was pretty packed for a Wednesday night but the aroma of the food! OMG! Our server was really nice and patient because my friend and I talked for about 30 minutes before we finally ordered our food. He has the beef enchiladas with rice and black beans. He cleaned his plate...literally not a grain of rice in sight! I had the smoked chicken verde enchiladas and WOW! What an amazing dish. I consider myself a Mexican food connoisseur especially being from California. I have always said Tex Mex?.....eeeeyuck! But Candente has changed my tune! I will definitely be back to visit when I return!

Glowing red. Burning. Candente…read more Let me start by saying that I'm not into Mexican food unless it's an auntie or grandma making it at their house. I prefer traditional homemade Mexican food but here we are. (Oh I googled and suggested this place lol) Went in for a team lunch on a Friday. Coworker's birthday lunch and she wanted Mexican. Party of 9 and we were seated promptly. They have a lunch menu and a happy hour as well as a full menu and full bar. The interior was nicely decorated. And open. There is bar seating and patio seating as well. Our waitress was Aisha and she was amazing. Friendly, helpful and patient. And able handle our large group and a few more tables with a smile. There were a variety of options. Salads, fajitas, nachos, enchiladas, etc. Also complimentary chips and salsa. My Order: chicken tortilla soup, lunch fajitas combo - chicken and beef. Chicken tortilla soup (3.5/5) - it was a bit salty for me but I am not a salt person so most things are salty to me; everyone else said it was tasty, there were tons of shredded chicken, avocado pieces, tortilla strips Fajitas - combo (4/5) - chicken was seasoned well and the beef (medium rare) was perfection and so tender and juicy, mexican rice was fluffy, and normally I would pass on the beans and get extra rice but my coworker suggested the charro beans and wow, that was a win - the seasoning was great, there were chunks of meat and the texture was nice, the only thing that could have been done better is the flour tortillas - they over-charred them making them too crispy and left them with a burnt taste. A couple of people got the elote salad and raved about it. So that will be a next time try. Def will be back. Everyone enjoyed their meals and some even ordered food to go. Would recommend.
