Oh, Comast. It's been so long since I've had to deal with the tangled web you weave -- at least three or four months since my cable and Internet went inexplicably dead. But yesterday, I attempted (as usual) to pay my monthly bill online, only to find that I now need a pin to get into my account. Apparently, you sent it to me. Unfortunately, I immediately throw out any piece of mail with the word "Comcast" on the outside of the envelope, considering that I get something DAILY, usually pushing another Comcast set of services that is cheaper than the price I'm already paying. Being a good citizen, I attempted to call you up and pay you. But you informed me that to pay over the phone while speaking to a person would cost me $3. No problem, Comcast. I asked to be transfered to to the automated billing center. But wait. To do so, I had to give my new cable internet phone number, which you had changed over to my primary source of contact without my knowledge. It didn't seem to surprise you that I didn't know it, and subscribed to cable internet phone service only to receive my cable package at the discounted rate (yes, it would cost me more to just have internet and digital cable than to buy all three), and you were kind enough to change my point of contact back. I thought you were kind enough to transfer me directly to automatic billing. But no, Comcast, you disconnected me. So I am sitting here with my credit card in hand, ready to pay you off for another month, but no way to make that happen. Why Comcast, WHY? read more

There are several places in Chicago where you must line up outside the place looooong before it opens to have a shot at getting in the place. Bongo Room, Kuma's Corner, Ruxbin are a few that come to mind. Oh, and effing Comcast. That's right boys and girls get up early, grab your broken Crapcast equipment and get ready to get there at least 30 minutes before it opens, and even at that you'll be lucky if there are only 10 people in front of you in line. I wish I could give this 0 stars. Have had technical issues for months which Comcast can't resolve. Between Comcast (Circus A) and AT&T (Circus B) there is basically a monopoly on the market. Prices are ridiculous, customer service is non-existent, and the technology is archaic. Cable is a joke in the US because we don't have any sort of real market competition. Can I give a minus star? Xfinity is the worse company that I have EVER, EVER done business with. Walk away while you have time!! Do not choose Xfinity for your cable needs. It took one hour for their automated system to stop hanging up on me. The only way to interact with a live person is through a computer chat after you get tangled up in the loop of their automated system that does not understand what you are talking about. I had an Xfinity agent set up autopay for me, and they set it up as two payments, one day apart from each other. Needless to say, it took them one day to withdraw twice as much money as was due. Yet I have to wait 5 business days to get refunded. I do not have enough money or time to waste getting tangled up in their errors. I am paying for high speed internet that is barely enough speed to keep my computer from shutting down. They have not done anything to fix that! I am going to go against the grain here and give Comcast 3 stars. Here's why: Comcast is equivalent to a troubled adolescent; frustrating in the sense that he or she has so much potential but this youth just cannot pull it together. What is one to do? Be persistent. I cried tears of joy when the Comcast guy came to install hundreds of glorious channels: Soap, WE, The Tube, HBO, Encore, Indie. . the list goes on and on. The cable installer even came EARLY and was out in less than an hour. Buh-bye 4 hour time slot on Saturday Woo-hoo. However, I knew there had to be a catch. There was! In my case, the On Demand did not update. For days. If I am dropping down $17 extra bucks a month for HBO, I should be able to watch Tony Soprano not just on Sundays but on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - you get the idea. AFTER 3 calls, Comcast finally fixed the problem. Each call / representative was more helpful than the last. But, when I called those first few times and nothing changed, I MEANT it when I said I would call back the next day. I will call back EVERY day if I have to. I want my HBO. Comcast is a necessary evil since cable TV is a vice of mine. On Demand and the channel options are the sweetest things ever - when they work- and I will take it any day over RCN, The Dish, etc. True, Comcast customer service is shoddy, but you will get what you want if you ride their ass hard enough. Kudos to service associate Jose at Comcast central for doing in 20 minutes what his competition failed to do after disconnecting me 6 times over a 90 minute time frame. Not only did he listen, not only was he understandable when he spoke, not only did he provide me with a bundle deal that was better than the competition, but he did it in record time. Oh. My. God. I am so annoyed. Why does Yelp even make me give one star? Where's the ZERO? Let's start with the fact that I'm not even a TV person, I don't have the time or interest -- I get what I need online and rent movies via iTunes when desired. However, I purchased a new TV this week and when I hooked it up I lost all my channels (I'm only on basic cable but went from 30 to 1 channel). This evening I called Comcast to arrange for them to send me the fix, a free digital box. I won't even relay the first phone call where I was considering upgrading and was talking to a "sales" rep on the current packages. Let's just say it ended with my request: transfer me to customer service or someone who can answer my questions. And...all she could offer me was a new number as they can't transfer. Nice. HERE'S THE KICKER! I called customer service to schedule setup and delivery of this digital box and was told the earliest was "all day Friday"....Okay.. Lisa: Let me see if i can work from home and make that happen, can I call back and change it tomorrow if not? Agent: Yes, that's fine. Lisa: Great, so let's confirm that. Agent: Okay, we have you all set for Friday. Lisa: Oh, what's the window for that? Agent: All day. Lisa: Yes, I know all day. But what are their hours so I know how late i could expect? Agent: Oh it could be morning, day, evening, we don't know. Lisa: I KNOW that. I mean what are the "all day" hours? Agent: Oh, I don't know that -- I only know what's written on my screen. Paying $50 for slow Internet sucks. For this price we get 6Mbits as per the contract - speeds from 10 years ago. This speed is artificially reduced to 6Mbps by Comcast. Do we live in the USA, leader of technology? It's 4 times cheaper and 3 times faster in Eastern Europe. I can refrase the above as - USA (or Chicago), leader of monopoly. I am a customer who is taken advantage of. My only other option in Wicker Park, Chicago, is DSL by AT&T which is even slower. There is another company, RCN, with better prices but I guess they must have carved out Chicago together with Comcast, as they still, after so many years, do not offer service in many neighborhoods (the term is cartel). The only plus is that they have one of the fastest internet services in the city. The downside is that you have to bundle it with expensive cable services or they gouge you. Also they filter your internet traffic. Use bit-torrrent? Expect to reset your modem every time because they will disconnect you. Even if you use it for legal purposes such as linux distros. Also, they take your money and use it to lobby the government against Net Neutrality. That is so they can filter your internet even more and charge you and your content provider for the privilege. Let's start with the positive because it's short: Comcast has the fastest Internet service in Chicago. Then let's go with the negative because it's a little bit longer. I signed up for Comcast service and I set up a service time to have it installed (between 5-7pm on a Tuesday). Needless to say they didn't show up which was a waste of my time. I called the next day and the Comcast rep said Comcast installation would call me today to set up my service appointment again. A day passes. No calls. At which point, numerous people told me their own bad Comcast service experience and at which point I decided to cancel service. "Are you sure you want to leave? I am paying $108 dollars for some cable package that includes all channels, Tivo, and your mom. I don't, nor have I EVER wanted Tivo. I am perfectly content downloading my BSG, thank you very much. ALL I WANTED WAS INTERNET. I am, GASP, just fine without cable tv. In fact, with a few mind-blowing exceptions (just frack off, ok?), I'd much rather have a life than watch tv shows. But it was wrong, so very wrong to go from paying $16.99 a month for fast internet (RCN) to $75 a month for slower internet (Comcast). Somehow their customer service rep convinced me that spending $33 more for every channel in existence would solve all my problems. This package would give me fast internet, and so much more. And I, being human, and weak, said...fine, ok. I guess I'm as pissed off at myself as I am at Comcast. Should have sucked it up and paid the $75 a month. But this doesn't mean that Comcast is anything less than the devil, nor does my story stop here. But, I think that there are enough customer service horror stories under the Comcast Yelp entry, that I don't need to add yet another one. Seriously, are there any class action lawsuits against them yet? UPDATE: We've done the unthinkable. And cancelled the cable. Boyfriend and I are officially now a TV-less apartment... Update! This is an Update! The day our two year, non-revocable at the risk of great bodily injury contract expired, we switched to AT&T U-verse. I returned all of our equipment to the CoNcast Store in Lisle, and luckily saved my return receipt, because CoNcast (yes, the N is intentional) continued to bill me for 3 additional months. I had an $800 bill and I was getting calls daily demanding payment. When I refused to pay, they turned me over for collection. I have new respect for Lisa Madigan, because a letter to her office, and an inquiry to CoNcast by one of her staffers, seemed to put the fear of God in this Godless collection of Beelzebub's hand maidens. The bill miraculously disappeared. And although AT&T U-Verse suffers from Rapid Bill Creep Syndrome (RBCS), wherein your bill inexplicably increases month over month, the service is exceptional and the folks you chat with at the help desk are friendly and ostensibly concerned for your welfare. These five stars are not for Comcast but for ONLY ONE of their employee's, Terrell Clark. We moved into a new development and the Builder dropped the ball and never registered our street name so we were on no one's global maps. After many calls to Comcast to try and figure out what the problem was (as we didn't know the street wasn't registered), the neighbor across the street finally hopped in his truck and drove to where the technicians are dispersed daily and just lucked out on finding Mr. Clark. Finally!!!! Terrell Clark knew everything that was needed for us to receive internet in this totally whacky situation. We've been sitting here for weeks without it and nobody at Comcast could explain why nor the Builder. If it weren't for the efforts of my neighbor to go on foot to find somebody and the good common sense of Terrell Clark, we'd still be sitting here with no internet. What is really humorous is when we left our old address, Comcast advised us not to close the account to prevent the red tape in starting up a new account. So we've been paying Comcast at our old address for over a month and here we sit at our new address with no internet. Anyway, I would just like to let corporate Comcast know that it is "Terrell Clark" who single handedly saved the day for us and took us from feeling like we were in the witness protection program or the Twilight Zone, and brought us back to Earth. Thank you Mr. Clark. I hope you are paid handsomely by Comcast because as far as I'm concerned you are indispensable to them. I am a subscriber of Comcast internet. This internet is really bad. I am having problems one or the other. I had problems with wireless connectivity where they said the problem is with the modem. This modem was given by them. Technician also said the router given by comcast is low quality. Now I am having frequent disconnects. Really irritating. It is affecting my work too. I am thinking of moving to ATT. I have used their internet for one year. Currently I am using this internet only because it is the cheapest available. One star for the beyond sucky Internet service last week with the modem cutting in and out. Beyond five stars for Edward who came to scope out the problem and get us all fixed up! For most of us, the cable TV/Internet service providers have complete control over how we exist, work and chill (scary thought actually). When something doesn't work we're forced to waste our precious minutes calling and being put on hold for what seems like an eternity to get someone to answer the right questions. We *suffer* if we can't get a show on demand and have to call. But there is nothing worse than trying to be productive and having your Internet cut in and out (though the kids might disagree with me, because they got to blow off their Internet homework assignments for two whole days). So after about five calls and my hubby tinkering around with everything, resetting the service, thinking we had it all working (and then not), we finally had a service person come out. We were told someone would come out between 1-3pm on Friday, and after a call in to let us know our guy was on the way, he arrived at 2pm. Great customer service. We live in a fairly woodsy area, so we get mice in our walls around the cooler temps and I thought maybe they chewed on the cable...what do I know. Anyhoo, Edward came out to assess our damage. Our case was so strange, because we have three Mac computers. When one would be online and it would boot the other one off, and then when two were online the third one wouldn't connect. The madness! After a one hour visit, it was determined that our router had gone bad (after just two months) and that squirrels had started to chew on our cords! Hubby thought I was nuts for my mention of the mice, but it turns out squirrels were doing some damage along with everything else. A whole new cable line was installed at no charge, and Edward didn't leave until everything was up and running, including the land line. The nicest guy ever, who took his time and diligence to make sure he diagnosed everything properly. So guess what? Today the land line isn't working!!!!! Comcast, you suck again! read more

Which is totally fine because Comcast will send your bills to the email address you gave them at the time you started service, right? The one where they sent your "start service" confirmation email? Not a chance! Instead, Comcast creates a Comcast email address for you, and NEVER (never!) mentions a word to you about that email address or how to access it, and then sends all bills to this mystery email address. What an idea for your life! I think that I, too, will begin creating secret email addresses for the people in my life, send mail, and then blast them when they don't ever write back. Because if you haven't guessed, it is your fault that you don't know about the top secret email address. Why wouldn't you receive mail at an email address that you should have known about through osmosis? Also, what is your account number? You should have that number lying around in that email address you can't seem to access through telepathy. read more

After having "service" with Comast for less than a month I've decided to cancel and return to RCN. Thank god I'm not limited in options like so many people I know. While Comcast seems to be more reasonably priced than other providers their service is terrible. Every single day I turn on my tv my channels are black and it says "This channel is currently unavailable. Please wait." The only way to fix was to unplug the box and power cycle. Every. Single. Day. Multiple times a day! And then there's the best part of watching a show and unexpectedly your picture just freezes. So forget it. This place is as close to misery as it gets. Literally. Miserable. It's bad enough that Comcast ripped me off for two years, messed up my billing on multiple occasions, and provided horrible service that went out every time there was a thunderstorm. But then they added insult to injury through the existence of this location. Take your worst DMV experience and multiply by a 1,000. That's how bad this place is. *This is a C&P from what I wrote to them on a survey that I was given after an online chat* This has been the WORST customer service experience of my life - excluding John Rho. To start things off, I've been paying for a service that I didn't need - TV, internet, and unlimited data - for the past 10 months, even after I was promised that I was only paying for internet and unlimited data. I then find out today that I've been getting scammed pretty much, so I decide to hop on to customer service chat (Ref#22390229). First of all, I was in the chat for 2 hours trying to resolve on issue. By the end of that encounter, I was promised three things: 1) a plan that will only cost me $115/mo instead of $175/mo, 2) $180 refund for all of the months that I was paying for a service that I didn't use, and 3) a call back on 12/2/19 at 4pm. I finally end the chat at around 3:30am, and I'm rudely awoken to a call at 5:30am from Xfinity. I answer the call, thinking it was my only chance to receive my refund. Turns out, the lady calling me had no idea what was going on with the case. In fact, she seemed so unprofessional that I thought I was getting called by a scamming company, so I hopped back online to the online chat service to make sure that the call I was on was a legitimate one. The lady informs me that the new plan that had taken me TWO HOURS to work out through the online chat actually didn't go through, and that I had to apply for it again through her. Fine, easy enough. Then, she thinks that the issue is resolved and tries to hang up on me. I inform her that the issue wasn't resolved, and that I was promised a $180 refund. She then takes forever to finally tell me that she can't give me my refund, so I ask to speak with a supervisor. I speak with a supervisor and she LIES to me about my situation. I told her that I was promised a refund, and she tries to tell me that she's sorry that the person promised me something that I wouldn't be getting, and that the reason as to why my plan was lowered from $175 to $115 was because of that false promise. I then go on to tell her that that's a lie, because I was given the new deal of $115 hours ago, long before the person PROMISED me a refund. She stays silent for at least 2 minutes and then tries to reassure me that no, they're only giving me this offer because someone messed up and promised me something that I'd never be getting. I decide, fine, I won't argue with this lady any longer, she's just wasting my time. By this point, I've been on the phone for over an hour, and I'm fed up. I ask her if there's a survey that I can take and she LIES AGAIN and tells me that the only survey option was before I answered the phone call. Luckily for me, John Rho was very helpful and was able to support me more than the 4 others that tried to before him. He told me about this survey, and even offered me $80 credit even AFTER someone else had LIED to me and told me that they were only able to offer me $50. I don't know what it is about your company and LYING to your customers, but it needs to stop. I was lied to about when I'd receive a phone call (again, I received this phone call at 5:30AM after getting only TWO HOURS of sleep after chatting with customer support for 2 hours), I was lied to about how much credit I was actually able to receive, I was lied to about the availability of this survey, and I was lied to about my situation. I'm moving soon, and I'll be doing everything within my power to find a different company to provide me with my internet needs. I'd like to reiterate, this has been the WORST customer experience that I've ever had, and I will be posting about it on review sites such as Yelp! etc. Honestly, I should be given credit for the poor customer service alone. read more

That way, you can save the details of the conversation and the order can be accredited to someone with an actual name and ID#. "Are you sure your internet isn't working?" "Seriously? You're asking me this?" "It says it should be up and running." I had to explain to their internet technical support about IP gateways and what all those little numbers mean. She STILL didn't believe me when I said my internet wasn't working. Look. I work for a moving company. I should NOT be giving explaining basic, basic, basic internet terminology and mechanics to your tech people. Additionally, your tech people should not be arrogant when they're ignorant of these facts that I'm explaining to them. Yes, I've reset my modem. No, I don't have the internet. Yes, I mind that your technician didn't show up for the appointment three days ago. The ONLY reason I still have Comcast is that this month is free. The next time my internet goes down, and they tell me "Are you sure it's not working? Have you tried reseting your modem?" I'm going to cancel my service and return their equipment at maximum throwing velocity into one of their walls at a customer service center. Reset that, assholes. read more
