When we arrived shortly after opening, we had the place practically to ourselves with only one other person and after us another party. We sat at the bar for convenience of the server, but unfortunately would wait quite a bit for boxes. To the point where we almost just left without the food, and wish we were asked if we needed a box when paying. What I Ordered: - Can of Coke ($3): A little pricy for a can, but I never expect a predominantly beer location to have a soda machine. - Schnitzel Sando ($15): wowza! I had to take a selfie to show how large this was! Schnitzel Patty the size of my head making the bun pretty comical. Very good, and I can see myself ordering again though I hated the sauce with it. The staff member said it had horseradish, so that explains it. - Burger of the Month: My coworkers pick, and she raved about the burger itself and the onion rings. Though sat for easily 10+ minutes waiting for our server to notice us to flag for a box to take my food to go, we still were pleased with the food and the experience prior to that. Stopped in here for Happy Hour after getting a nearby pedicure. Happy hour was great, pedicure was underwhelming. On this occasion we did the Happy Hour food + beer combos. The smash burger was good (single patty for HH), pretzel, onion rings/fries. They all pair delicious with cold beer. Nice choice of beers here. They also had cider and wine. Was traveling through town from Tucson and wanted a burger, but did not want a nasty fast food one. Found this place on yelp with good reviews and decided to walk in and place an order to go. The bartender/server was incredibly friendly and helpful in figuring out what we wanted to order. I would've loved to have stayed to have some beer and enjoy their board games, this place has a really cool vibe. I looked up the name and found that they also have other locations around the valley that are closer to where I live. Will definitely be visiting that other location soon as well. read more

I finally came by here when their 3-5pm HH was going on and got to try their pint and bite special for $10. This is an excellent deal! Everyone knows about this deal because between 3-5pm, this place is mobbed with people and hard to find a seat inside or out. But right after 5pm, the place becomes more manageable. So plan for the HH mad rush here! Almost everyone in here got the burger + pint as I looked around and it a really nice deal. I wasnt in a mood for the burger and had the pretzel + pint and it was excellent. The pretzel was very good and I enjoyed both sauces that came with it. I love grainy mustard and this was sooo good! I was also here right before the holiday and tried the Fish Fry on Fridays. The fish was good, but I recall it being a bit more expensive than I like, around $20 for one piece of fish and a few French fries. I probably won't get that again. Their beers here are top notch and if you like a good European draft beer, this place is for you! I saw a lambic on the menu and that is tempting to come back next time to try! read more

These burgers are our favorite in the area. They do double smashed burgers. On some of them the 2nd patty is a different meat type, like brat meat. Our favorite is the valley burger. The patty melt is also very good. I wish they had a more interested salad for when I am feeling healthy. Their fries and onion rings are fantastic. Great beer. I personally order the wine-based cocktails. They are on the smaller side but always tasty. I don't drink wine so havent tried that here. read more

I really enjoyed this low key bar on a comfortable fall evening. There's a decent (but not large) patio seating area where dogs are welcome. The interior has German beer hall vibes but not overpowering. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the food was good. It's an "order at the bar" kind of place. I got the Lustige Frites which were tasty fries covered in chopped pastrami chunks, some kind of cheese, sauce and idk what else. It was good though. Meaty with a mildly sweet sauce. Can't go wrong. I was also happy with my Chimay beer with a normal 4.something % rather than their well-known higher content beer which was also on tap. Next time I'll try and be healthier with the salad. My brother got the schnitzel sandwich, which he said was good, but it too a very long time to come out. We were starting to wonder if they lost the order but the beers kept us wondering until the food did come out. The other food we ordered came out quickly. This little neighborhood burger joint is great! You can order a single patty adult burger although it's not on the menu. I would skip the 3 oz. wine they serve. Something where I told my husband i never want to step foot if i don't have to. I'd rather drop him off to ensure that instead of having to subject my kids to their piss poor attitudes. Allegedly Wren opened up Südhalle as a response to a lot of Covid beer sales coming from The Tuke. If the story is indeed true, I'm so glad they listened to their consumers and made local beer more // better accessible for us on the southside of South Mountain. We don't have a lot of cool unique bar/restaurant spots (let alone BREWERIES) for how amazing Ahwatukee is and Wren is definitely one of the stars that shines to bring people in from outside our 'hood. Rarely is it dead whenever I have been by for a beer(s) and a meal. Truly is a great "third space". The beer is always consistently good and sometimes they will have unique batches/brews just for Südhalle. I love a place too that allows you to order half-pints - allows for more opportunities to try more beers. The food is solid too - which the owners really emphasized they invested in when doing PR for the opening a few years ago. Fridays are crazy busy with their fish fry. While I'm a fan of their burgers, I go crazy for the onion rings and house sauce. I really hope Südhalle never leaves The Tuke - we desperately need a community place like this. read more

Omgoodness I have had decent pastrami in NY and NJ but thist pastrami made those look like bologna!! It was so tender, full of flavor, thick cut and not overly fatty. I tried the mushroom tndrs I felt the batter lacked some seasoning compared to the fries, but the haus sauce really made the dish come together. Hubbs had the wren burger he really enjoyed it. This place has been on my radar for the fish and chips special they do every Friday. We happened to be in the area on an early Friday afternoon and decided today was the day. Busy place as expected with a German beer hall vibe, community tables, etc. Our bartender was pleasant to deal with and had a chill vibe. That being said, I tried one of their beers on tap, the Trappist Rochefort. I've had numerous Belgian tripels and this one had a very forward salted taste, which I've never experienced before and seemed off for what I was expecting. Simply put, very odd. On to the "famous" fish and chips. The chips were on the cusp of being between undercooked and cooked through just enough to be lukewarm while having no crisp to them. The fish, as you can tell by the photo had a super dark brown color, which was off putting given I would expect a golden color. I couldn't tell if this was due to the beer in the batter or the fryer oil being too hot. Either way, the fish ended up having this bitter and burnt taste. My girlfriend also got the fish that looked the same and she thought the same thing, so it wasn't a one off situation. As I was paying, the bartender asked how everything was, I mentioned my issues, particularly with the fish. They said the type of beer they include in the batter varies, they weren't sure what was used that, and that may have been it. They said they appreciated the feedback and would let the kitchen know. That being said, I've lived and/or worked in the restaurant industry since I was a child, so I am emphatic of what goes into running a restaurant. However, I also understand the importance of ingredients and how they can ruin a dish. Whatever they did in the kitchen ruined that dish and we won't be back, at least not for the fish. read more

Yay! I finally found a tap house that serves delicious food in Ahwatukee!! My friends and I spotted an open table towards the corner by the merch. We sat ourselves and started looking at the menu. Stopped here on the way up to Phoenix to visit some family. I really like how open and inviting the place is. I opted for the Oktoberfest, my husband for one of the lagers (I can't remember which one). A lot of merch options. My husband collects the tin tackers, and was happy to see that they have them here. I do like that they offer food options. We tried the pretzel.. we didn't care for the cheese it comes with, and are not mustard fans at all, but I actually preferred the mustard over the cheese, however, the pretzel was very soft. Visiting from out of town and asked to go to a brewery. Local fam brought me here and I was not disappointed!! They have an outdoor patio that allows dogs. Inside was clean. I absolutely love this place. I have only been a couple times because it isn't the closest spot to my home, but it has been a great experience each time. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The lines can get long and it is an order at the counter place, so you can try to wait for a good moment to order your next beer. The atmosphere is wonderful with great indoor and outdoor seating options. It is also family friendly with drink and food options for the kids which is always so nice! All the food and beer there have been delicious and we always end up spending way more time there than we expect because we are enjoying ourselves so much. The house made tar tar sauce was also good and fresh. The fries were good, crispy with a nice batter. I like how they have two sauce options as well as lemon and vinegar. The food was a bit salty, but it would pair well with beer. Service was good but it was pretty packed on Friday around 5:30pm so we had a hard time finding a seat. Came here for fried fish per recommendations which is something Wren only offers on Fridays. You order at the bar, and they will bring the food to your number placard. $17 gets you a chunky piece of white fish fried excellently. It's very crispy, but light. I'm not eating a whole chunk of batter with a few pieces of fish - you're getting a very good fish with a great shell. The tartar sauce is a huge plus - it's homemade, and you can taste the dill in there which goes great with the fish. Moving onto the fries - sheesh I love shoestring fries. They are seasoned very well not too oily, and overall I really enjoyed how well they paired with beer. Onion rings were interesting - batter has to have like five spice or star anise in it because it has an interesting scent. It also comes with this sauce that I'm not entirely too sure what it is. It also smells of five spice/star anise. Onion rings had a crazy crunch and good batter to onion ratio - best onion rings I've had in a while.
