We "had dinner" here last night and from start to finish, everything was truly fantastic. The food came out promptly and was cooked perfectly -- full of flavor, fresh, and exactly what we ordered. But what really stood out was the exceptional service. My wife and I were dining with our two small children (both under 3), and as any parent knows, that can be a challenge. Our kids were fussy and, frankly, a bit obnoxious, but Brent, our server, was incredibly kind, patient, and gracious throughout. He never once made us feel like we were a burden. In fact, he went out of his way to see if he could do anything to help, which meant the world. At one point, after feeding the kids, my wife and I quietly debated boxing up our untouched meals to finish in our hotel room; Brent quickly realized and gently offered to take care of it for us. That small act of kindness was just one of many -- and it perfectly captured the warm, understanding atmosphere the entire staff maintained the whole evening. Dining out with little ones isn't always easy, but thanks to Brent and the rest of the team, our evening was one of the best restaurant experiences we've had in a long time (even though we didn't even eat, which says a lot). We had dinner here for our anniversary and were delighted to be seated by the windows, which lent gorgeous views of the golf course greens. For our appetizer, we ordered the spinach artichoke dip, which had a crumb crust that gave way to the most bewitching layer of bubbly layer underneath. It arrived piping hot with a generous plate of crostini, and by the time we were done, we barely had enough stomach space for the entrees to come. My husband enjoyed his burger well enough, though the accompanying fries were unfortunately cold. I cobbled my entree together by combining a Caesar salad and an appetizer - the burrata caprese and fried green tomatoes. Both were perfectly executed, and the mound of fresh burrata cheese was extraordinarily fresh (perhaps made in-house?). Even though we were here on a quiet weekday night, it seems that reservations are mandatory for all visitors. For larger parties celebrating a special get-together, there is a beautiful screened in porch that seems like it would seat 8-10. read more

This is combo review as we visited a few times during our stay and ate breakfast, lunch and dinner here. Breakfast was best meal by far. All food was cooked well, served warm and of great quality. I will say get on vacation time. Service is typically slow but very attentive. The second day my husband had to leave for his tee time before the food came. We had been at table for almost 40 min. They did comp his meal and drink. Lunch we did as a to go order. It was decent. Also took a long time but they were busy. Tortilla soup was more like chili to us. Cobb salad was great with grilled chicken and smoothie was typical nothing great or fancy. Prices are high to be expected. It's a resort.... Dinner was a disappointment. Lobster was flavorless. Ribeye was not high quality and not good taste either. Bread appetizer was very hard. Charcuterie we had for app was decent. Overall it's ok considering price, service and convenience. Have hit this place for lunch several times and it is generally pretty good, especially given the options in the area. They recently added an all green panini that had kale, avocado and basil pesto. Super tasty and the bread had the perfect crisp. Going the unhealthy route, I went for the fries. Crispy and salty, just as I prefer. Great place, especially if you have clients. A group of us (8) made reservations at Woodlands Grill for dinner at 6:45. We went to the bar because we arrived early and had drinks that were made by Zach. A number of us had Martinis and two of our friends had smoked bourbon drinks. The drinks were outstanding and Zach was very attentive. We ere then called to our table and we ordered appetizers and drinks and they were delicious. We then ordered dinner and we waited... and waited... We we asked when our dinners were going to come out one of the waitresses rudely told us when we finish serving 23 guests outside! We all responded with Ohhhhh.... Everyone in the main dining room a table of six, table for Two and our table of 8 waited for almost 2 hours! We then went to the front to ask to speak to a Manager. We were told Zach was the Manager. He came over and apologized and told us he would comp our first round of drinks and comp dessert. Apparently the chef was slammed with the 23 guests and was working on our orders. They assured us within 5 minutes we would get our dinners. Finally we received our dinners after a hour and 45 minutes waiting. My husband had Risotto and scallops and I had Sea Bass and Risotto. My friend had s filet Mignon for $53.00 that was no bigger than 3 inches. Luckily he ordered a side salad to go with it, because there was nothing else on his plate. Overall we were disappointed with the service and the food was Ok. The waitress who waited on us should not work with people she was rude and condescending Chanell needs to go back to training. I loooved the crab cakes. They came out hot and was so flavorful. The fried green tomatoes and tuscan farrow stew is not my thing and the collard greens were sparsely embedded with the stew. I would have wanted just a side of collards. K had the short ribs and substituted mashed potatoes, but he felt like they were 5/10 to him. He loves broccolini, which was good but it was a small amount. The dinner rolls came out hot and were good. I really liked the spinach artichoke dip with the mini toasts. For breakfast, I had scrambled eggs, chicken apple sausage, potatoes, and bagel with cream cheese, all good. I tried the cappuccino, but I forgot I prefer coffee (which I had at the Inn and was good). K had scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, and toast. He liked it except he thought the ham was too salty. Great service & delicious food! We were hesitant after seeing a few reviews, but it was the opposite of our experience. Sarah did a marvelous job & all our food was yummy. We had the pimento beignets and were in the mood for southern food, so we had the fried chicken which came with pimento mac and cheese & collard greens. We split the finish off with pecan pie. What I appreciated about this restaurant is the excellent customer service. The wait staff was personable and entertaining while also being extremely professional. The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Came here for a mid-afternoon lunch after a round of shooting sporting clays at Barnsley Resort. Our server, Tripp, was excellent. Our group of four shared the Charcuterie Board ($27.00) and then I had the Classic Burger ($20.00) with fries and added sauteed onions for an additional $2.00. The burger and fries were nicely plated but just ok in taste, not quite worth $22.00. Trippe made an excellent red sangria ($19.00)! So good, in fact, that I ordered a second. If you're just going for a meal (not staying at the resort), it's decent. Service is good, but they automatically add 20% tip which isn't preferred. Menu is small/limited, food is pretty good. If you sit outside, you have golf course views. If you're staying on site during the week, this restaurant is the only food option, unfortunately, and it's too limited to merit more than a visit or two in a trip - definitely wish there were more options. Calamari & the rolls/butter are the best things on the menu. Short rib was super fatty, tomato soup is nothing special. Dessert menu was boring & we're really dessert people! read more

We have been going to dinner at the Grill off and on for about 2 years, after moving relatively nearby. The first year, the food was excellent and worth the price. It is VERY PRICEY, which we always felt like it was worth paying $20 for a glass of wine and even the over-inflated prices on a bottle of wine, because the atmosphere was so nice. Unfortunately, that is not the case now. Over the last year,in which we ate there 6 or more times, the food was subpar and we began to be disappointed. Last summer, we ate at the Beer Garden and we were both sick that night. But last night, we had to say WE ARE NEVER EATING THERE AGAIN. The burger was overcooked and had a funny taste, (that used to be our go-to once the food started to go downhill), and the shrimp and grits that I was served was a joke! I get Factor meals and the shrimp dishes are way better than the slop I was served last night. I could barely find any shrimp or sausage, and it was covered with some kind of red sauce, which not only tasted horrible, but made it impossible to even find the tiny few shrimp and few thin slices of sausage. I mentioned it to our waitress and her response to that and why there was barely any bacon jam on top of the Pimento beignets was that she had worked there for over a year and that both were always like that. I happen to know differently, as I had them both a year ago and they were entirely different. Now add the automatic 20% gratuity for a real slap in the face! I barely touched my food and when she asked if I wanted her to box up the remains, I had to laugh! We went there to celebrate my birthday and it was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!! Well, we didn't get to eat. We arrived early for lunch and was seated right away. The hostess placed our menus on the table, and when I moved one, a huge black roach ran across the table. My mother does not deal with roaches, and if she sees one, game over. She will never eat there. The was a server nearby, and he found it in the floor after it ran off the table. I think it was probably in the menus, and not hanging out on the table. But, if there is one... Too bad, beautiful place. read more

Woodlands Grill is a beautiful restaurant at the Barnsley Gardens Resort celebrating upscale southern fare. The menu covers all its bases, but the execution was subpar. We started with the chorizo queso which wasn't seasoned and had no flavor outside of the chorizo. The chips were stale and way too over seasoned. I had the scallop pasta which was a huge portion and covered in blackening seasoning. It made the pasta unpleasant and had no other flavor. My mother had the steak which was almost burned it was so overcooked and dry. Overall, wouldn't recommend. Try the Rice House of Beer Garden instead if you're staying at the resort. read more

We dropped my daughter off at an event in the area, and decided to have lunch in Barnsley Gardens. My assessment -- and again, this is just based on a casual mid-day meal: good, but not extraordinary. Face it. If you're in a resort with a captive audience, a restaurant doesn't have to try as hard as establishments vying for business. I had a salmon BLT with Cheshire bacon and pepper jelly. The sourdough was nicely seared and to chef's credit, the fish was cooked medium rare as requested. I really enjoyed the bacon, which was thick with sweet overtones. My husband ordered something a northerner like me would never consider: pimento and green tomato sandwich. ( I made the better choice.) Too much pimento cheese, squirting out all over the place. For dessert, we split a gratis slice of pecan pie topped with cinnamon ice cream. I thought it was delish; T was not as impressed (though I notice he gobbled his half up!) The staff is exceptionally nice and attentive. Our waiter, a young man named Dylan, aimed to please and did a good job. The manager on duty came by to make sure we were happy. I think prices are inflated -- again, see my comment about "captive" resort clientele. But the ambience is clubby and comfortable, the food not bad. The best thing about our stopover, was walking around the magnificent grounds and learning about a resort I didn't know existed! If we come back for a weekend away -- and I think we will -- I would have no problem returning to the Grill. read more

Was impressed at first because the waiter was nice enough to ask if we wanted the kids food to come out first. Drinks were also quite good. Got there at 5:30. Kids got their flat breads at 5:45. Kids got their dessert at the same time we got our dinner - at 6:45. Food was pretty good, but the wait, coupled with the fact that the food was overpriced for the so-so quality, made this a place we would prefer not to return to. We really enjoyed the 5 meals we ate here while staying at Barnsley Resort recently. The restaurant decor and views are lovely. Breakfast was done right. There was a small logistical mix up with our lunch delivery order but the caesar salad was very good. For dinner, the scallops with risotto were outstanding! Probably my favorite meal. The short rib and grits were hearty and filling. The brussels sprouts were so good! We ordered the bourbon injected filet. The quality of the meat and the temperature were spot on but I wasn't crazy about the flavor. My husband enjoyed it and wished they'd offered it in a larger size. The boursin mashed potatoes were yummy but the mac n cheese was a bit grainy. The fried lobster appetizer was a small portion and fried green tomato appetizer didn't have more than two fried tomatoes but lots of raw ones. The table next to us ordered the salmon and I wish I'd ordered that. The portion seemed much larger that other menu items. That's probably my only concern - the prices seemed a little high for what you're getting. I almost forgot about the desserts. The red velvet and chocolate layer cakes were both wonderful! We also enjoyed the ice cream. The service was a tad slow but overall very good and the servers were personable. Our orders were prepared as requested. We will definitely be back! read more

this place is stuck back in the middle of nowhere but well worth the drive. Discovered it last month and I will go back only next time, I will be staying on site! Spent Memorial weekend at Barnsley Gardens - great time! Without letting the resort color the review, we had dinner here on Saturday night. You may notice that you are able to book reservations through Yelp, but I recommend that you do it directly through the resort - there were many more openings that way. We made reservations for 7:15 for my wife, our 6 year old daughter and I. When we arrived, we asked to be seated on the outdoor screened porch, which has a great view of the golf course. Drinks and our salads came very quickly. Then it went downhill. We rarely saw our waitress again for over an hour. We managed to order a second drink when she came by after about 30 min and promised out diners orders were being fired. 30 minutes later after asking another waitress to send ours over, she finally arrived with apologies that the kitchen had screwed up, and the dinner. My wife had ordered the filet, I had ordered the N.Y. Strip and our daughter had the chicken noodle soup off the kids menu. Well, the filet was cold, my Strip was medium well instead of medium rare and the chicken soup was lukewarm. The manager showed up a few minutes later with an apology about the delay and we let her know the condition of the steaks. Overall, the food tasted pretty good - I think that if the service had gone smoothly and the meals were hot and cooked correctly, this would be a different review. The manager's final act deserves praise - she comped the entire meal. I commend her for that, but as you may have experienced at some dining moment in your life, once things start going really wrong, the entire mood at the table changes and the experience is ruined. Memorial weekend may have been difficult for them and their young staff, but at these resort fine-dining prices the expectations are high, and they did not meet them this time. read more

We had a party of 12 celebrating a birthday. Everyone was so accommodating & did all they could to make our evening special. We were in a side room that was very nice & private. We had the charcuterie board - the variety was tasty & delicious. For dinner, some had the filet, some had chicken, & some had the burger. We all enjoyed our food! It was delicious & was arrived in a timely manner. One filet was undercooked a bit, but was taken back & cooked to the desired degree & an apology was issued. Well we had to..why take reservations when you going to make the customers wait 30 minutes Should've expected us to come The food wasn't as good for the price also the food was way too salty which called for lots of liquid. I would've gave 1 star but the service of the waiter was at least good. We also had breakfast here and it was ok. Overall if you don't like salty food then this restaurant isn't for you. Met part of the family here for lunch today. (Even though it was 10 miles from anyting .) Looked really interesting online. Got good reviews and chanced it. Was very disappointed. We had a reservation. Got there a little bit early. They sat us quickly. But then they let us sit without a waitress or menu for 20 minutes. I had to get somebody to come to the table by going back to the front desk. If they've been busy I understood Maybe but there's almost nobody in there. When the waitress I did show up she was sarcastic and rude. The food was just above mediocre and it was overpriced. Will not be to going back there again. And I would not recommend anybody driving 20 miles out of the way to get there. Oh did I mention they automatically added a 20% tip on the bill. read more

I don't like to leave bad reviews, but I feel I need to caution guests staying at the enchanting Barnsley Resort to avoid the Woodlands grill if you have even the slightest discerning pallet! Considering the price points, I was expecting fairly decent dining, but sadly, that was not the case. We did order the fried brussels, and they were good! Our salads had lettuce which was turning bad (red edges) and they used packaged croutons, which, again, at the price point, I expected homemade. Which brings me to the rolls, also prepackaged and not homemade. I ordered the lamb meatballs and they were tough and the sauce tasted like Knorr soup mix. Nothing about that entree was handmade! It almost tasted like airplane food! My husband got the prime rib, and the meat was cooked well, but the same Knorr instant gravy was poured over it! The kitchen manager did apologize and comped some of our meal, but I wanted to make sure our waitress, who was very nice, wasn't penalized so I tipped her cash. It wasn't her fault the Woodlands Grill is a mix of Applebees and Ruby Tuesday just before closing time! Then, this morning, we ordered breakfast in out cottage, hoping it wasn't as bad...and it was. The eggs absolutely were not farm-to-table, because that is what we eat at home, and we can tell the difference. The sausage was decent, but the bacon was almost raw! So, long review short, bring your own food to the Barnsley if you are even the slightest bit a foodie! You'll be glad you did! read more

We dined at the Woodlands grill for several meals during our stay at Barnsley Gardens. In total we had breakfast there twice (once buffet and once we ordered from the menu), lunch once, 2 dinners, and drinks at the bar. Service was amazing each time, the atmosphere was great with the outdoor veranda and view of the golf course being our favorite. The food was exceptional at each meal! One of the most enjoyable meals we've had in a long time - from the goat cheese fritters to the melt in your mouth filet to the HUGE slice of coconut cake, everything was top notch. We were so disappointed to hear another waiter sharing the specials at another table after our order was submitted. Nothing was available for the evening. I called and they said they could work us in and asked us if we were celebrating a special occasion. Awesome I thought! Restaurant was not even near full the whole 2 hours we were there. They said they were out of filet which was what the birthday boy had hoped for. No problem, he picked another choice and enjoyed it. Service was not great. Scallops were too salty and burger was just ok. However, rib appetizer was delicious and deviled eggs different and yummy. read more
