Visiting from Tennessee.. cute downtown area, small patio and inside is small... stopped in for lunch and had to wait for table but service was quick... had the veggie sub with added avocado and it was sooo good... I like finding veggie sandwiches that have more to offer than lettuce tomatoes cucumbers and peppers... i really hate peppers ... I also really liked how all the veggies are chopped so u aren't having to bite thru tomatoes, cucumbers, or onions and pull them out of the sandwich. read more

My wife and I have gone here since the 80's. We have noticed the past year food and service getting worse. Tonight finally captivated to worst meal and service we have EVER had here. The gave us the excuse they were busy and understaffed. I find fault with management. I don't want excuses! We won't be back and that is a shame. read more

Been Many times went Sunday with out of town friends. Waitress was great. First ordered the potato skins as appetizer. We did not get them until we all started our meal. Waitress said kitchen missed the order‍. Told they were training new staff. I had the Roast beef relief which is great when prepared as they did in the past. Sunday's had only 2 thin slices of roast beef. At first I thought it was a onion and sprout sandwich but did finally track done the RB. Did not make a fuss due to being in a group. My hope is that it was a mistake and not how they are going to be from now on. Truly disappointed but will give another chance in future read more

Downtown Rome has really become a cute little area, so I'm a little surprised that I have come to prefer Schroeder's second location (a few miles away on Martha Berry Blvd.) to its original spot on Broad. I think the major reason for this is ambience. There's something about the original spot that carries every voice in the building, and I've never been able to have a conversation there without leaning in close and having to raise my voice to be heard. You're going to hear as much of the conversations at surrounding tables as at your own. This isn't a problem at the Martha Berry location. The food is the same in both locations - really terrific pizzas, pretty good calzones and sandwiches - and I have not had any complaints about the service in either restaurant. Word to the wise, though - don't come to Schroeder's if you're in a hurry. There is nothing on the menu that requires a lot of prep, but I've rarely received my order within 25 minutes of ordering. When I say nothing requires a lot of prep, here's what I mean. The sandwiches range in price from about $4.50-$6.50. As you might guess, what you're getting for this price is mostly cold cuts and a bunch of toppings that are sometimes warmed up on the grill. Schroeder's offers a lot of grilled pitas and subs as well as pizzas and calzones, but you can tell it's a matter of throwing the ingredients in the bread and warming them up. That doesn't take half an hour. I usually get a pizza or calzone, which I understand takes a little longer because of baking time. I never go when in a hurry, so who cares, honestly. The draft pitchers are cheap (but the beer selection is pretty limited) and the grub is usually better than decent. The grilled chicken pita is delicious, but would be a lot better if the meat didn't taste like Tyson's ready-to-eat grilled strips. You know what I mean. The strips have fake grill marks and have a sort of rubbery consistency and an artificial smoke taste. All this is hidden beneath truly yummy sauce, mushrooms, cheese, and sprouts, but I would absolutely be willing to pay another dollar in order to get some good chicken in there instead. I tried Mom's chicken salad sandwich. It was tasty if you like your chicken salad sweet. I personally don't care for sweet pickles, and their chicken salad is loaded up with them, so I'm not the target demo for that sandwich. It was served on bland wheat bread. I guess I'm a snob because I like my bread full of nuts and seeds, so that one was a miss for me. Dad opted for the chicken strips. They're a staple at every restaurant in the world, more or less. Schroeder's are decent - if you like frozen chicken strips. These were definitely out of the bag. We all had the fries. They're waffle fries, which I love. However, Schroeder's is hit and miss on the fries. Some cooks know that you don't dump fries in oil until the oil is already hot - that's how you make sure the outside is crispy, not soggy. These were some *soggy-ass fries.* Meh. But hey! It's not all doom and gloom, I promise. The pizza is a consistent highlight, with crust that tastes homemade and pies that achieve the right combination of crisp and grease. I've never been disappointed in one of their pies. True - Mellow Mushroom and Johnny's pies are overall better and more creative, Bella Roma is where to go if you want deep dish. But for consistently good and extremely affordable, you cannot beat Schroeder's. read more

As we went to sit out back and a waitress peaked over, my friend said "is the outside open?" to which the server responded "not in two years". This is the Friday spot in Rome because it's just a great place to start the weekend. They have great homemade sandwiches. Try the okra tots. If you order a pizza or calzone, be ready to wait, but the service is typically fast on the other items. I've been going to Schroeder's for years and have always loved it. After today I will not be returning. Our server, Brandon, was unfriendly, never checked in on us and the staff as a whole was very rude. We order mozzarella sticks, a French dip, a hot dog, and okra. It took over 35 minutes to get the mozzarella sticks to come out while everyone around us were already eating their entrée. We got the rest of our food 45 minutes after ordering. We got no sort of apology. The food was okay. Okra was soggy and the hot dog was covered in unnecessary breading. I was then charged for the wrong amount and I told a server who completely ignored me. For the amount that they charge for a sandwich and hot dog, I expect it to be great with good service. I did not get anywhere close to that. Will not be returning. read more

When I stopped I was thinking two things, one was that I could get a cold beer when I saw the lighted beer signs in the window, the other was the hope that I could get a good New York style deli sandwich. Desite the sign they did not sell beer on Sunday but if you bring a church program you can get a 10% discount. The sandwich was decent but did not have the amount or quality of corned beef I expected and I had to put my own dressing on the sandwich. There are several good New York style Deli's in Atlanta the owner should try a reuben at one. Where's the beef. read more

Schroeder's is the classic college town deli. Food is more than edible and they have enjoyed a long loyal following. Recent years have seen a revitalization of Broad St. and dining options. Schroeder's seems to be falling behind with the competition. A menu update, decor update and a consistent even if short wine list would serve their business well. A pressure wash of the awning and keeping the windows clean also can't hurt business. I wish Schroeder's well, but, there is a reason the other outdoor dining areas are full and Schroder's appears to be often not. read more

Yelp's definition of a three-star is "A-OK," and as far as my experience with Schroeder's New Deli, that's a pretty succinct description of what it was for me. I only go to Rome a few times each summer, to catch some Rome Braves games, but I can't say that I've really took the time to explore the town. I had some time to kill, so I decided to rectify this habit, and I found myself in Downtown Rome long before not. After a little bit of walking around, I decided that this was as good as place as any to look for something to eat, considering the vast majority of Rome had mostly chain restaurants, and not that I have anything against chains, it's just I prefer to take in something more local and unique whenever I'm somewhere I'm unfamiliar with. Schroeder's won out for me, because I felt like having a calzone. Broad Street on a Saturday afternoon on gorgeous summer day was surprisingly quiet, and parking was not an issue. Downtown Rome has an abundance of street parking that claims to all have two hour limits; I'm not going to volunteer to test whether or not such is actually enforced, but keep that in mind if you decide to park your car and go to a place and get sloshed for several hours, or watch a sporting event. Needless to say, I was able to find a spot on the adjacent street to Schroeder's Broad Street entrance without any problem; but after I had chewed through my first two hours downtown, literally across the street. Entering Schroeder's feel precisely like entering the neighborhood pizzeria. Considering the prevalence of pizza on the menu, I'm slightly perplexed why the business is called a new deli as opposed to a pizzeria, but I wasn't here to ask questions, I was here to eat. It was as quiet inside the restaurant as it was in the rest of downtown Rome, so I was able to seat myself, and I was presented with a menu and had my drink ordered pretty promptly. I ordered my calzone, and indulged in the local newspaper, because sometimes I like to do that, to see just how different of a place I'm in when I travel. Not long after reading an advice column about a formerly incarcerated woman torn between a man she'd been dating and a dashing new spark based on the fact that tornadoes emerged when they were together (seriously), my calzone arrived. True to the A-OK description, that's how my calzone was. It was not bad, but I can say that I have had better. Contrarily, I have also had way worse, so there's nothing at all wrong about being in the middle of the spectrum. The waffle fries I ordered on the side because I'm a pig were about as good as waffle fries are, but at like $2 for the order, you get way more bang for the buck than if you went to like Chic Fil-A. Admittedly, one of my pet peeves at restaurants are when servers don't ask me if I want anything else, and just present me the check. It was quiet and not busy, so even though I wasn't really in the mood for anything else, the lack of asking is displeasing. Granted, this is representative of the server and not the restaurant, but we're talking about overall experiences here. Anyway, everything about my Schroeder's experience is exactly what a three-star describes. A-OK. The location was convenient and quaint, two hours of free street parking was sufficient for my lunch needs, and the food and it's price was about as 3/5 stars as they come. read more

A Roman classic. Right in the heart of Rome's downtown, Schroeder's Deli provides a great place for lunch. If you're from Rome, it is highly unlikely that you can walk into this place without seeing someone you know. I would highly recommend the potato skins, the pepperoni calzone, and the Salvador Deli, although I have never been disappointed with anything I ordered here. The menu also includes sandwiches, pizza, soups, salads, and a variety of appetizers from nachos to soft bread pretzels. They have a true appreciation for alfalfa sprouts on sandwiches that is missed by most delis. The ambiance is good too- much better than Rome's other lunch hot spots like Duffy's. They have it all down here, from the jukebox to the live music in the back courtyard. The place can get pretty packed during lunch hour, but it is well worth the wait. read more

First time here. Passing thru. Great, unique food. We're both in our 50 ' s & ate something we'd never had before. She had the Polish sausage w/ kraut baked in pizza dough (Charlie ' s Dog?). I had the Pita Tosh which rocked like Peter Tosh, warmed roast beef,tomatoes, shrooms, sprouts, etc in pita. A landmark of Rome that you should visit at least once. The service is great, the atmosphere is very "small town" which is nice and the food is okay. Mediocre portions for cheap which is nice. EVERYTHING (or almost everything) comes with sprouts so be sure to ask them to leave it off if you don't want them. The food is average, but they have a lot of choices and, again, it's cheap. Seems to cater and attract a lot of retirees, many of which are regulars. Overall, try it at least once. Even if it's nothing to write home about, the staff and amount of choices make it worth a shot. read more

Oh hello amazing sandwiches, Rome, GA hipsters, sprouts, potato skins and delicious calzones. Schroeder's is a Roman standard- coming from a Roman. They make great homemade pretzels with delicious honey mustard. I'm craving it now. You can tell from the other reviewers that this place has some good chow. It's definitely no classy shmassy joint, but it's a great place to go for lunch, with friends, or even for concerts held out on the back patio. I personally find the salads a little "thrown together"--but I'm not much of a salad fan. It wasn't anything MIND BLOWING.
