Rome, GA, who woulda thought I'd fine this hidden gem! They have a wide selection of sandwiches and salads and if you can't decide they also offer a half sandwich and half salad combo and do not restrict you on choices. The menu is a chalkboard with specials and soups of the day - Not huge inside, but they also have some outdoor seating. I went with the downtown club, sans sprouts, and it was huge and delicious. DH had the BLT and I swear that there was at least $11 (cost of sandwich) of bacon on it! They also have a super cute bakery with made from scratch cookies and cakes. read more

We tried Doug's Deli Downtown for the first time today. It was delicious! I got the chicken pesto sandwich and my husband got the Homegrown BLT. The bread was so fresh and the ingredients were fresh also. We did not get any of the sweets, but they all looked amazing, so we will have to try something next time. We sat toward the back of the restaurant, so our order kind got over looked and we had to go up and ask if it was ready after we realized other people had got their food after us. The decor and feel was welcoming and comfortable. Seemed to be a popular place for lunch, so we will go back when we get back to Rome. read more

Absolute star of a place. Went here an hour before closing and it had people but was not swamped. Could definitely see it was a favorite though. Love that it was on the outskirts of town, so it's easier to find parking and may be a little less busy. The staff are super friendly and hard-working. I really enjoyed seeing all of the family shoutouts on the board. Opted for the turkey sprout Sammy and it was great. Did not get a side and the sandwich was plenty enough. Perfect size if you're hungry, but it would probably be good to save half if you got a side. Oh and for some reason, the cucumbers were fire -so good. Opted for a icing cookie for dessert. It was huge and chewy. All of their desserts looks delicious honestly Felt like the price was definitely fair for the quality that you're getting because it all appeared very homemade and delicious. I always love this place, especially for their specials. They had a tomato sandwich and a BLT sandwich on special today. My friend got the BLT and I got the tomato sandwich. I really love our tomato sandwiches here in the south. I splurged on a piece of golden cake with chocolate frosting (those are good here as well). The sandwiches were delivered within 10 minutes. Everything was very tasty and fresh . This place never disappoints me. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at this restaurant. I got the nut and harvest salad which was very well balanced. The fruit, candied walnuts, and cranberries were perfectly balanced with the feta cheese. Also the citrus dressing added some tanginess. The sunflower seeds provides a good crunch as well. We came in at a very busy time, lunch on a Saturday. I've been once before, but years ago. The sandwiches were as good as I remembered. I got one of the specials: the pesto chicken veggie sandwich. It was so good!! It had tons of pesto on it, which I love, marinated mushrooms and veggies w melted cheese, and chicken, on great bread! I got the half sandwich and salad deal. I chose the Asian salad- although many sounded good. The Asian salad was great-- the base is kale, so some may not love that. But the sesame vinaigrette on it was perfect! Also, you get another small side with each main meal-- we chose a bag of chips. They have a few other options like pasta salad, fruit cup, etc. They had Zappos chips- yum! My boyfriend got the pimento cheese and bacon sandwich, and did the half sandwich and soup deal. He got the white chicken chili. He said it was good. For the sandwich, he was a bit disappointed -- it seemed to be mostly pimento cheese, and not a lot of bacon or other things. He said it was okay. He was also happy they had Zappos chips. My son got the kids meal-- which is half a sandwich. He wanted a Turkey cheddar grilled sandwich on sourdough. I guess that's not on the menu as an option, but they made it happen- very sweet. It came w half a sandwich and a small side. He chose fruit. It was a tiny amount of fruit. So we also ordered him a side of soup: creamy potato cheese soup. He loved it- has bacon in it, and comes a oyster crackers- yum! Counter service was good. Efficient. They were patient w us being unsure at first. I wish they would mention specials though-- I'm glad I noticed the specials board way to the bottom left. They bring your food to you. I did find it funny/ strange how they know which food goes to whom... since they don't give numbers etc. I asked them lol they claimed they write a fast description of the people ordering lol .... Wow... I bet that gets tricky... and not always easy to do lol. It was very busy. We had to wait for a table. They did find us, and asked our name- so I guess they wrote that down too lol. All in all, we enjoyed our food and it was very fresh and many healthy options, which I appreciate. It was too cold to sit outside in the shade, but they had a few tables in front. Parking was easy on the side of the building in a free lot. Not many spots, but possible. Street parking as well. They had many baked goods and dessert options as well. Many different soups, salads, wraps, sandwich options. They are busy in that bakery! They seem to run it well. The focaccia bread was great-- order that w your sandwiches. We'll be back! read more

Well, my cheeseburger came out hot but my fries came out ice cold. When I ask at the front counter, if I could get some hot fries to go with my hot cheeseburger, they said it would take a minute like one minute later I was brought out some really hard french fries that were twice fried like they took some cold ones and drop them back in the grease, needless to say I was pretty disappointed. There's a lot of money invested in that restaurant it's pretty sad to know that when you go there you get a $15 cheeseburger and cold fries if they don't get their stuff together this place is never going to last good luck. I would start with some food quality training. French fries are only like $.25. The least you could do is serve them hot. Seems like everybody wants to take a shortcut these days. read more

After traveling to Rome to home a friend's dad, my friends and I decided to stop for lunch. This spot had a good rating and sounded good so we gave it a shot! We each had a different sandwich. My BLT was fabulous. The bacon was plentiful and crispy - just the way I like it. The tomatoes were fresh and delicious and the whole wheat bread was toasted perfectly. The side of pasta salad was good but the portion was half of what I expected. The pickles were crispy and tasty. My friend enjoyed her turkey reuben and appreciated the fact that it wasn't sloppy to eat! The Italian Beef my other friend got was immediately compared to the same sandwich he gets in Chicago. He described the differences but found this one to be good. He was also disappointed in the size of his pasta salad side. All 3 of us had the cream filled chocolate chip cookies and enjoyed them. I got the Philly and my wife got the Notorious P.I.G. I would make the 13.5 hour drive to Rome, GA to eat a Philly Cheesesteak before I would fly to Philly. The only thing I wish for was time for dessert! I had the chipotle chicken in a spinach wrap with a half size of kale salad dressed with a citrus basil vinaigrette, toasted peanuts and feta. This is one of the most dysfunctional restaurants in Rome. Granted their food is not bad. They have a lot of really good sandwiches and soups. But their service sucks. I was in there a few weeks ago and ordered a Greek salad and I sit there and they never brought it and come to find out they never charge me they never rang it up. I ordered a sandwich instead and I wait and I wait. Come to find out they had it on the shelf thinking it was a to go sandwich and I told the girl I'm sitting right outside. I live a few miles out of town and just happened to see this place while driving by. I was so impressed by my first visit where I ordered a Cobb Salad and a couple of those delicious cookies they make. The Cobb Salad was so fresh and beautiful.The avocado was displayed in a creative way and everything on the salad seemed perfectly fresh and delicious. Then recently when I ordered on the app to pick up, I ordered a Cobb Salad, but this time with chicken and sprouts added on. Not only was the presentation not as attractive, but the avocado seemed old and chopped up, and the sprouts were not fresh, they were droopy and smelled bad, but as I forced myself to try and eat it anyway, I almost broke a tooth on the pieces of chicken!!! Each piece of chicken was hard as a rock and looked like it had been cut off of an undesirable end of a chicken breast. I was so disgusted, I had to throw the whole salad away.
