i use to do standup comedy here until i was singled out for being pregnant. you would think jj's wouldn't allow sexist bs like that but it is what it is i guess. i would go just to do shows its not even like i was trying to drink or anything. i dont even understand why it's such an issue. people shouldn't come to shows & be judged on something medical. it's not their place. read more

JJ's was one of my favorite places in town , WAS being the key word. I was meeting a group of friends , I was the first to arrive , bearded bartender at end of the bar , me( only one in the bar) waited for sometime as the bartender even acknowledged me, he was very rude , almost mean really - I try and never judge a book by its cover - I asked him if he ever smiled ? - trying to be funny , he obviously took that and ran with it lol. So , he got my beer , told me to drink it and leave - WOW !!! Also threw my money on the bar , because I questioned why I was being charged 10$ to sit at a empty bar ? Waiting on my friends , they may not have wanted to stay. I knew then - I wouldn't be back :( SO OK - the bearded mean bartender , I was like ok whatever still tipped him just because I have been there done that. THE ABSOLUTE kicker of all of this was when a blond( fake blond) short, young woman walked behind me to the front door - I was leaving duh- she said " good riddance , don't come back and Hope you are a statistic" I mean who says that to someone ? I just shook my head and moved on. Being in medical and seeing a lot of " statistics " this young lady needs to spend a day at my job , a ER , or lose a loved one due to being a " statistic ". I decided U CANT FIX STUPID !! Will never go back , never tell my friends , colleagues , to go here. WHAT A PLACE! Most underground venue I went to in Chattanooga and it was the coolest place we went. We missed it by driving by it about three times but we finally found the facade by walking by it. We were there for the open mic comedy, which as far as open mics go, was one of the best I've ever been to! The newer comedians were really original and comfortable onstage and avoided the hacky "airline food" sets. Even the crowd was one of the best I've seen. Good sports, no heckling, and a nice attitude. Definitely a great night of comedy. Limited seating, so there's that, but I think it only adds to the whole bohemian/hip atmosphere. Can't say much about the bar because I was pretty broke by the time we went there and could only afford a Bud Light (yech!). There's a nice patio area in the back complete with a Doctor Who reference graffitied on the deck (see if you can find it). If you want comedy that's free AND original, go here. No trip to Chattanooga is complete without a trip to JJ's Bohemia. It's that simple. As a bar , it's great: a solid beer selection and an outdoor patio. But as a music venue, it's terrific: small, comfortable, and good acoustics. We saw two amazing bands: Rum Drum Ramblers from St. Louis on Friday and The Features from Nashville on Saturday. I have special love for Jenny, the owner/bartender, who was welcoming and chatty to our group of out-of-towners, even when the bar was packed. I spent a weekend in Chattanooga. Awesome joint, great music, people, brews. Always live music every night either in the court yard or the bar. It's a cool size venue where if there is 30 people there is feels packed and when there is a 100 people there is feels like the greatest show you have ever been at. Rad bar tenders help with the sound, and they have a great spot set up for bands to sell merch! This is one of my fave spots! read more

Technically, I shouldn't be voting, as I never entered J J's! However, the doorman was so helpful that I just wanted to stop by and show some love! After a strenuous 3+ hour hike, I just wanted a warm bar with good beer and a personable bartender. I walked to J J's from Market St. only to find it was pulsating with death metal. No shame in that, but I needed a cozy bar stool with conversation. I explained my plight to the doorman who graciously explained to me that I needed some Bitter Alibi in my evening-- a mere block away. Thank you, sir whose name I never caught! JJ's deserves a solid three-star rating. I guess I'm just spoiled because I've lived in Nashville for so long and I have my choice of 15+ "alternative" venues in town, but JJ's will do in a pinch. Good selection of beers and a nice outdoor patio. read more

I love the relaxed, alternative vibe of J.J.'s. They have live music every single night, most of which is garage and punk. Even though it's not my kind of music, it may be yours, so I suggest checking it out - cheap cover, cheap drinks, good people. read more

Now they have a bomb ass carribean jerk restaurant they also own close by and a new bar below it they also own. Kick butt comedy and the likes. My favorite is bartender 'Freddie' he plays lots of rocking songs super loud like Ozzy and random jibberish. read more

This place deserves 5 stars. It is the most 5 star dive bar in the country. Eddie the bar tender is such a classy grade A dude. This place is very divey and we love it. They do so much for local artists and really boost the entertainment in Chattanooga. Beer is reasonably priced too. The smoking can get a little rough, but its a dive bar. read more

What a great place! This is a wonderful live music venue with great acts. You can enjoy a communal hand washing station and cheap beer. We even met some people here which then led us to other live music the following morning. Enjoy! read more

What a joke! JJs, do yourself a favor and find a new "bouncer" (or should I say scrawny white guy who probably couldn't squish a bug with his fist). Your door man is a jerk and that's putting it nicely. Between trying to keep people's money to refusing to give them their id's, he is the main reason I will not be back. Love this place! It is not for everyone, though. I went with my brother and his friend and they wanted to leave. They don't serve liquor which kind of sucks but the atmosphere makes up for it all. They have an awesome outside section where you can smoke or just hang out with people. This is a place where the alternative crowd hangs out. I felt very at home here. The location isn't so great but it's not terrible. It's kind of small inside but overall it is a great place. read more
