A great place but even though they have great food me and all my friends can not stand the smoke. Wish they could change that

The food is pretty darn good. Hate that it's a smoking restaurant. I only do take-out.

It's been 2 yrs since being here. Back in Chattanooga area again, Champy's is a MUST STOP for us…read more They never disappoint. Inside it's ani eclectic array of old license plates, dollar bills on the walls and overall fun to sweep your eyes around the room. The chicken is moist, flavorful and just plain delicious!! Service was quick but we weren't in a hurry. My husband & I ordered the 8 piece family, 1/2 thighs, 1/2 legs, with fries & coleslaw. My husband had the chicken, sausage gumbo.... He rates it right on top of the best he's has tasted. I would say.... defined and good place to stop, with family, friends or whatever reason you can think up. Just stop and enjoy yourself with good food.

Highlight of the drive. For the first time, today was different. The very friendly young women who first greeted us and guided us through the menu years ago are gone. In their place are unfriendly young ladies who would far prefer to chat with each other than provide even acceptable-level service. We were tolerated, not welcomed or even checked on to see if we wanted anything. I waited and waited for her to notice me at about ten feet away as I waved my empty beer can in hopes of getting a second one. Finally I had to interrupt the conversation between the waitresses by raising my voice above their conversation, "excuse me, may I have another?" Again, we were there early today. Just before 5:00 PM. That is how timing works when you are on the road. So the place was nearly empty. They weren't busy with customers. They were busy chatting amongst themselves. As we completed our fried chicken (still very good), she came by and did not ask if we wanted anything else but simply said "ready for the check?" It was a way to make us feel like we needed to leave. To add insult to injury, we passed by the hostess table outside on our way to the car as we left and we happened to pass between two Champy's young female employees chatting at the hostess station and blocking the way out. We had to say "excuse me" and walk between then as they kept talking to each other. Never did they bother to say "thanks for coming, please come back soon." So maybe after all this time...we won't.

The ambience is very laid-back and relaxed, we sat on the patio & will definitely be returning in the future.

This Friday, they offered a lasagne, and while the pizza special looked exciting, at this point, you just trust the staff to give you the right input, and Fong was up to the task. I just had to try the lasagne....the grandkids were so inclined as well so we ended up eating three portions.....absolutely delicious. The beer selection is always good as they offer a rotating draft beer selections that will truly complement whatever food you choose that evening. While it's a small location, it's comfortable and fortunately with the quality of service, even on those evenings where it is incredibly busy, they turn the tables efficiently.

Old Man Rivers Table and Tavern is a small hole-in-the-wall kind of place. It used to be a home and is now a restaurant. I think 8 or so tables inside and two on the front porch. They serve lunch til 3pm, then a happy hour til 5pm and then dinner. We got there at 4pm for a drink--a really good old fashioned , but were so impressed with the place and the staff that we decided to stay for dinner. It was like one big happy family. They advertise no freezers, no fryers and no microwave--everything is made fresh daily. I started with a wedge salad which was amazing and then a poached Halibut with beet risotto and spinach (to die for). They are closed Monday and Tuesday and start a new menu every Wednesday. If you go for dinner, arrive early because by 5:10 they were pretty much full. All the locals eat there. You will need a car as it's located at the bottom of Signal Mountain.

They close Monday & Tuesday and release a new weekly menu at 5 pm on Wednesday. We ordered the wedge salad (a steal for $8) and the halibut. Fantastic to say the least. Everything is super fresh. Reservations are not taken, so get there early (by 4:30 pm) to get a seat! Parking is limited.

I know people love Champys around here but we love hot chicken and this place does it best…read more No frills, simple restaurant with 10 or so tables. You walk in and you choose your table and a nice waitress will bring your menus. We like the chicken strip basket which comes with two sides. Of our favorites are the fries, the collard greens, green beans, and mac and cheese. The chicken strips are very crispy, the meat is just a little dry but the flavor is great with even the mild level heat having nice heat. We also got the catfish which has a perfect crust and perfectly cooked inside. The baskets come with sauce and you get two per order. Probably more than you'll need. You get great food for an affordable price. Good Southern service. Just all around one of our faves.

3.75/5 -- The Flaming Rooster | Chattanooga, TN…read more I stopped by The Flaming Rooster while in Chattanooga, and overall, I'd give the experience a 3.75 out of 5. There were definitely some highlights especially the catfish and the service. The ambience has a real throwback feel. It isn't fancy or modern, but that's part of its character. It reminded me of an old-school neighborhood Southern restaurant, and I actually appreciated the nostalgia. Between the decor, the food, and a cup of Kool-Aid, there were moments that genuinely took me back. The service was one of the strongest parts of the experience. Janet was a 10/10--friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout our visit. The kitchen staff was also very efficient, and our food came out hot and fresh. Missy, who rang us up, was hilarious and brought even more personality to the experience. The staff definitely made us feel welcome. Now, the food: Fried Catfish -- 10/10. Hands down the star of the meal. The catfish was fried perfectly, crispy on the outside, tender inside, and seasoned extremely well. This is what I would come back for. If you're visiting for the first time, I recommend starting with the catfish. Fried Chicken -- 7/10. Good, straightforward fried chicken. It was crispy and enjoyable, but nothing that completely separated it from other good fried chicken I've had. Still, I would order it again. Macaroni & Cheese -- 5/10. Not bad, just average for me. It worked as a side, but it didn't stand out compared with the catfish. The potato salad reminded me of Sam's Club potato salad, which actually isn't a bad thing because I like Sam's Club potato salad. It had that familiar, simple flavor. And the Kool-Aid mix deserves a mention. That took me straight back to childhood. Something about Kool-Aid alongside fried catfish and chicken just fit the throwback atmosphere perfectly. Overall, 3.75/5. The sides could be stronger, but the catfish was excellent, the service was outstanding, and the nostalgic atmosphere gave the restaurant its own personality. Janet and Missy helped make the visit memorable as well. If I find myself back in Chattanooga, I'd definitely stop by again. I also recommend giving The Flaming Rooster a try if you're in the area. And seriously-get the catfish. 10/10.

Huge pool hall, great food, friendly staff, cold beer, awesome drinks!!…read more Shout out to Lisa Smith!!! We checked out Sweet Melissa's Billiards last night. They are rocking it! Michelle Hicks killing it in the kitchen... plenty of room, amazing new tables, darts, new digital jukebox, and a very friendly staff. Even though they were packed and it was first night open Judy Cordell and the other girls were ON it. I heard numerous people talking about wanting teams there. There are having a sign up party tonight for pool league... Go get your spot! Lots of people have asked me about their beer specials and league incentives and Lisa said those are coming very soon. And as if all that wasn't enough... They have added a tribute wall to all the pool players that have been taken too soon.... Jim Jones and Sally Jo Nihiser are among those names (two of my very favorite people). Mad respect Lisa for that heartfelt addition! She also informed me that if you know of any local players that have passed feel free to let her know and they will be added to the wall. Way to go Lisa!
