I planned for 2 months to attend one of the demo events and rearranged my schedule. I even wrote in to the email on the website to ask if there was anything I needed to do to sign up or get notifications. Not only did I never get a response but they cancelled the class without telling anyone. The staff seems friendly and it looks like a nice place but the company is so disorganized and unresponsive that it was a complete waste of my time. read more

I was sent here on an errand. I was coming south on I35 and Google had me exit and drive through the neighborhood. I was a bit taken back by the neighborhood behind Woodcraft. Then you see Woodcraft. The grounds and the building are gorgeous! I love the Woodcraft truck in the entryway. The exterior is so modern. The entryway doors are huge and gorgeous. Then you walk in, it is so clean and bright. Everything is laid out very nicely. The employees are so friendly, helpful. I was approached immediately. I got my items and was out in 10 minutes. I really want to sign up for classes when COVID is over. I really enjoy this store! read more

A dream come true for any and all wood crafters!!! All I needed was advice and products to spiff up three old chairs. A wonderful gentleman, whom I believe was the Manager, was my guide through this intimidating shop. He suggested an easy to use orange oil to brighten the chairs. So very grateful he took me under his wing!! read more

My husband and I have taken on some small woodworking projects at home and Woodcraft is a great resource for us. We've stopped by a few times and have always found the store to be clean and well-stocked and the employees to be friendly and helpful. The first time we visited, we were looking mostly for information and advice. We checked out their selection of wood available to purchase. They had a lot to chose from by not exactly what we were looking for. We had picked out a very specific type of wood that was out of stock at the moment. We stopped by a second time while out running errands because we love looking around the store. We finally purchased supplies this past weekend. We ended up getting the wood we wanted from Lowe's but we decided to get the staining supplies at Woodcraft because I wanted to support a more local option and because we really wanted to get advice from the employees. You can tell that the employees here know what they're talking about. You can tell they have experience using the products, that they are woodworking enthusiasts themselves. My husband also found a rolling cart on sale for a really good price that he loves. In addition to their woodworking supplies, there is a classroom for classes. They also sell the supplies to make gifts like pens and bottle stoppers. A great store! read more

We asked one employee at counter to assist us with stain. He said he would find someone for us, walked over to the back counter and started wrapping up package.... Never saw him again. Then we found Walt!!! We are finishing Pecan coffee table (3 rounds on separate bases). Walt was a wealth of information. Went into Woodcraft while it had previously been a favorite store of ours the employees all have their noses out of their masks. Our current Travis County regulations require both nose and face to be covered. It's sad that they don't think more their customers. read more

If you are a woodworker or know someone who is, get to Woodcraft ASAP! I'm not a woodworker but my hubby is for sure. He brought me down here this past weekend and even I, a woodworking novice, could see this store is awesome. You are welcomed to the store by a massive handcrafted hard wood door that is beautiful. You go inside and see handcrafted wooden items around, all sorts of tools, and a great wood selection. It was so much fun to look at all of the interesting hard woods. They have big slabs of wood all the way down to small cut off sizes and everything in-between. They also have wood in every color imaginable from almost white to purple to black with every shade in-between even some zebra striped wood. I didn't even know that some of the woods even existed. The wood is decently priced as well, especially if you purchase the cut off packages. My husband is in the early stages of learning to lathe things, so the random packs of cut off are perfect and very affordable for his addiction. There are also so many tools here. They have big machine tools like band, scroll, and table saws, as well as smaller hand tools to get pretty much any job done. From what I saw, most of the tools and saws were pretty high quality. Yes some places have cheaper items, but Woodcraft has the best of the best stuff. I know my hubby was drooling over many of the bigger saws. This store also offers variety of woodworking classes that anyone can take to learn or improve their skills. The class selection is pretty large and has something for everyone. Woodworking is hard to teach yourself, so this is just awesome to have for anyone wanting to learn more. It really is a one stop shop for woodworking. read more

They put up with me randomly looking through their aisle and are very helpful when I actually do want to buy something. My most recent purchase here was a SawStop cabinet saw. What an awesome saw! Store is cool, a lot of stuff, however, I wanted a belt for my drum sander and they have the exact same drum sander on the floor and I told him I need this belt for this sander! He still gave me the wrong one. 45 minutes one way. No apologies or discount or anything. Just disbelief till I took him over there to show him how much bigger it was. read more

when my son casually let drop that he had an interest in learning some woodworking skills, i went to the google in search of local classes or workshops. luckily for me, i stumbled upon woodcraft of austin. besides having a beautiful shop filled with every gadget and necessity for the woodworker, including an impressive stock of wood from the ordinary to the exotic, they also offer classes in their spacious classroom. when i spotted the "Woodshop 101" course, i thought it would be a perfect jumping off point for my son and so i bought him the class as a surprise christmas present. easy peasy to register and pay over the phone (in fact, i bumped our class date two different times due to conflicts and the woodcraft guys were always happy to accommodate). i, myself, had taken "shop" back in the 9th grade (dark ages) and had not done much of anything woodcrafty since then. i'm not exactly what you'd call "handy". and since i am always looking for bonding opportunities with my kiddos, i also signed up for the class. we arrived at the shop a little early so had time to poke around the store. the staff is super friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming. Woodshop 101 was a full day long, lead by the very skilled and extremely entertaining Sandy. what a nice guy! we had so much fun. Sandy took us through all the paces, from picking out good wood to proper and safe use of a mitre saw, table saw, jointer, planer, drum sander, drill press, belt sander, and router. he made sure that everyone used every tool multiple times and explained everything we were doing, and why, along the way. we all ended up going home with beautiful handmade cutting boards and great senses of accomplishment. i can't wait to go back for another class. if you are a skilled woodworker looking for some supplies, a novice looking to try something new, or a parent looking for a way to bond with your offspring, woodcraft of austin has the supplies and classes for you. check them out! read more

I recently took the woodworking 101 class and I'm disappointed with the class. I'm not a complete beginner. I took the class to get some exposure to a jointer and thickness planer, to get a chance to work with a variety of really expensive lumber, and we need a new cutting board so it seemed like a win win. The instructor was nice enough but there were some issues. His fingers got terrifyingly close to the table saw blade when we were making our cuts which I found distracting. This was after he told us about how almost cut his finger clear off (he had cut it terribly but it didn't come all the way off). I know that with my limited experience I'm not in a best position to criticize someone with his volume of experience but he should be demonstrating over the top safe operating techniques, not taking shortcuts. He was a human feather board for the whole class. Seems like using an actual feather board would have been worth the extra five minutes to explain how it works. Maybe cut the last hour of the class (using a CNC router to engrave initials into the boards) to provide the time needed to adjust a feather board a dozen or so times. The biggest disappointment is that the cutting board had twisted by 8:00pm the evening of the class. It's no longer a cutting board it's a piece of wood art that looks like a cutting board. I understand that wood is a natural product and will do what it's going to do but I can easily slide a quarter under one of the plastic feet. My wife likes the board (even though we can't use it as a cutting board) but to me it's a reminder of a day I'd rather forget. read more

Attention all woodworkers - buyer beware. Extremely poor customer service! Purchased a saw guide today and discovered it was missing critical pieces when I arrived home and started to assemble the guide. I had to return to Woodcraft and pick up the missing pieces in order to use the guide. It took 2 hours of my time, gas, and two tolls to drive back to the Austin location. The manager refused to offer any type of discount or store credit for the item I purchased. They further insulted my intelligence by stating that they could not reimburse me for gas. I had to slowly explain to the sales associate that I expected a discount on the $100 dollar item, not cash for fuel. Again, the manager refused to make this situation right. If you're like me, you probably purchase most your items online or through other vendors. I strongly encourage all Woodworkers in the greater Austin area to boycott this location. If this is the way the manager runs this location, what will happen if you have a bigger problem? Please help a fellow woodworker and boycott the Austin Woodcraft. Update after 10 days. No feedback on Yelp from the owner or manager regarding this matter. The trend of poor customer service continues... Avoid this location at all cost. read more

I don't understand why the employees were not helpful. I wanted to try something new by trying out wood turning. I was prepared to spend $1k on it. I asked one person and he was not helpful and admitted that he did not know anything about it. And he left me standing. This is so disappointing. read more

I just completed the beginning woodworking class for women. There were eight women total. It was taught by Sandy, who is an outstanding, knowledgeable and patient Instructor. A novice could not ask for more! Each of the machines in the wood shop were explained and each student used them at least one time . We used a chopsaw, a planer, a router, a joiner and a table saw as well as a few other hand tools. Safety was emphasized. Students who had no background in woodworking quickly felt confident in trying the machines. We each made a beautiful cutting board. The various wood types (and specific characteristics of each species) were explained to us. We were taught how to choose a plank of wood (with a more discerning eye) suitable for fine woodworking. I cannot recommend this class highly enough for beginning women. It seemed as though the rest of the members of the class felt the same way. read more

Right off the bat I knew I was in heaven. Woodworking has been in my family for generations and walking into Woodcraft brought that all back. My son is an avid pen turner and absolutely loves what Woodcraft has to offer, and I personally love all of the classes they have to offer. My son took the bench class and was not disappointed.
