If you need a break from the digital world you can browse around Kinokuniya and pick up a hobby. They have unique stationery, books, music, and toys you wouldn't find at Michaels, Target, Barnes & Noble, and Walmart. Originally we were just going visit just 99 Ranch. We didn't know they had a Kinokuniya in Austin so we checked it out. It's located in a strip mall with a bunch of other Asian businesses. I like Austin's layout better than their Portland, Oregon location. The Austin store is less chaotic than the Seattle location. That's partly because the Seattle Kinokuniya is near a public transit hub. read more

Kinokuniya Books is one of the coolest bookstores I have ever visited in Austin. Calling it a bookstore is almost a misnomer...it is so much more. In addition to an incredible selection of Japanese and English-language books, the store is filled with stationery, art supplies, anime merchandise, pens, unique gifts, charms, and all kinds of fun gadgets. Wow, wow, wow! I was completely overwhelmed...in the best possible way. There was so much to see that I had to take three deep breaths, slow down, and explore one aisle at a time. Everywhere I turned, I discovered something new and interesting. I found myself just as captivated by the beautifully displayed merchandise as I was by the books. As soon as I walked in, a friendly staff member greeted me and asked if I was looking for anything in particular. When I replied, "No, I'm just browsing," she smiled and pointed out the store's main sections, making it easy to begin my adventure. Everything I looked at was reasonably priced. Fun, eclectic, non-standard bookstore... read more

Was exploring South Congress when one of the store workers told my daughter and I about this book store. It's a bit more north, but totally worth the drive. In a shopping complex off of airport blvd there is a plethora of food, groceries and books. You can park anywhere within the complex then just walk from store to store. This book store has stationary, pens, gifts, manga, all kinds of tote bags and stickers. It was so fun to just walk around and check stuff out. Don't miss this one in Austin. read more

We absolutely love this place. Perfect little anime section for my daughter, a nice book section for me. Great gifts, blind boxes, stationary, stuffed animals, collectibles. YOU NAME IT! There's some very eccentric items in in, it's a bit pricy but it a cool store. We spend quite a bit of time here. The service is great on some days but others not so much. It really depends on when you visit them. Weekends are BUSY... if you want a more relaxed visit the best time is during the week read more

My Nephew is very into anime and wanted to get him a gift. I know nothing about anime so was praying the staff could help me out. I was directed to a Menga authority where she did an amazing job of interpreting my gibberish about what may work for my nephew. The store has an amazing selection, and staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you for your help and needless to say you impressed. read more

Just discovered this bookstore, and was pleasantly surprised at the large selection of manga/anime, plus art supplies. Lots of high quality items, well stocked and organized. Would be a great place to check out for gifts, for the anime/manga nerd in your family. Lots of parking in this shopping center, along with other unique shops. read more

Nice book and trinket store. Most things here are Japanese related but not all things including the books. The items here are either priced on the normal msrp (some may see it as high). They also have their own gundam section/wall. There's a pretty good cook book selection though nothing on sale prices. Plus a far back curtained section as shown in the photo.... read more

Kinokuniya is a must-visit place anytime we're in Austin! Everything is packaged and organized so nicely, it's always a pleasure to explore all the variety of manga, magazines, anime merchandise, home goods, and scrapbooking/crafting materials. Some items are quite pricey but they are totally worth it, the quality is unmatched. Definitely recommend checking out when you're in the area. read more

Such a helpful staff!!!! Whether in person or over the phone they are SUPER helpful, there's one gentleman in particular (I wish I had gotten his name) very friendly and polite. Despite the fact that they have products up to the brim- everything is very organized. The only problem is trying to decide what to get without breaking the bank!!! read more

I was born and raised in Japan, so I am very familiar with Kinokuniya Company. I am also very familiar with the exceptional customer service and care in Japanese retail. I thought MAYBE some of the culture would be incorporated into the U.S. stores, but unfortunately not. On Sunday, July 26, I had the most unfortunate encounter with the young lady at check out. Interestingly, my daughter was still browsing and checked out after me. Without knowing the sour experience I had, to my dismay, my daughter told me she had an unpleasant encounter with the cashier, as well. With the type of service we received, we hesitate to return. I hope there is improvement. read more

This place is so overwhelming with stuff I get sensory overload in the best place possible. Running around this store more fun than most things I do in the day!! If you're a fan of manga, studio ghibli, stationary, pets, cute plushies, they have everything!!! I've been here multiple times and they have a massive stock of rotating items that they always have new stuff when I've come here. Things are decently priced and the workers are more than willing to help you out with any questions or if you're looking for something. So worth the trip over if you're looking for something cute and practical like notebooks or pens read more

The staff is so helpful. There is a huge selection of items for any occasion whether it's a wedding or a birthday or an anniversary or a simple adjust saying I gift hidden gem in Austin! The price point I was looking for was under $10 for a waving paw cat, they are priced at $39. It's a great store and I will be coming back for a cutesy gift every time someone's birthday comes up read more

This bookstore is AWESOME. It has a large selection of studio ghibli merch and a full section of LGBTQ+ novels. There's also a good selection of foreign cookbooks and a section of foreign language books. I loved the merch and will do my gift shopping here for sure. This is a sweet little books and import shop. It can get crowded, so be prepared for that. There's a ton of stuff to peruse so it's pretty understandable. The staff are all friendly and helpful too. The space is kept incredibly tidy and organized. Anything popular and Japanese you will find at Kinokuniya. Anime stickers, buttons, pins, figures, etc.? Yes. Hello Kitty items? Absolutely. Pusheen plushies? You bet. There's even a whole section of the store that's dedicated to Studio Ghibli. Not just a plush or figure, but note books, artwork, and home goods! The books section is great. There's cookbooks, graphic novels, popular culture titles, and more. There's a pretty nice selection of adult books and such too. I might have to swing back for a volume of a Web Comic I read. read more

Great place for art books, stationary, and to see what merch has been releasing for various anime fandoms. Majority of the store is merchandise imported from Japan and the prices definitely reflect this, they can feel a little gougey when what would be like a $4-7 dollar keychain in Japan is priced at like $20+. I don't buy much when I visit but I have seen things like I make a mental note to check online or any of the proxy services I order directly from Japan through. I do splurge on pens and art books from time to time or last minute gifts for the homies when there's something too cute to pass up. It really feels like a 'I don't need any of this but I sure like lookin' at it' type of establishment. read more

Definitely a cool place full of unique books, mangas and gifts, patronized by an inordinately large collection of introverts all studiously ignoring eachother except to apologize for their own existence when needing to move past one another through the aisles. There was a large selection of English language mangas as well as Japanese language mangas and Japanese language children's books and educational materials. There were many adorable stickers, tons of anime merch as well as Pusheen and Sanrio. There were more markers and pens than anyone could ever use, origami paper, incense and holders, and just, innumerable hard to find treasures. Five stars. Highly recommend. There were actually a ton of people in the store when I took these pics but I tried to make sure not to take any pictures of humans. read more

Austin's Kinokuniya is in such a cool area, and the store itself is extremely tidy and well organized. The attention to detail to make the book selection experience as user friendly and comfortable is immaculate. Such a fun store with a diverse variety of merch and practical items. Also, I loved the Japanese Manga section! The English section had a great selection too. The prices were surprisingly good too - way better than Barnes and Noble or Amazon. read more

This is a super kawaii and fun store that has a large selection of Japanese stationary, pens, greeting cards, books, plushies, accessories, trinkets, and more! The store is very clean and organized. There is a table at the entrance with hand sanitizer and masks; masks are currently required inside. Right when you walk in, the left wall is lined with beautiful greeting cards that are very unique but simplistic. The aisles closest to the greeting cards contain a wide assortment of pens and other stationary goods. If you like manga, you'll love looking through their manga section. In case you don't know how to read Japanese, they do have manga translated into English. You can also reserve a book ahead of time and pick up/pay at the register. And don't forget to check out all their plushies! You'll be tempted to buy them all and take them home with you. Also, be sure to bid the giant Totoro farewell when you exit. read more

This store is very chaotic and was overcrowded when we popped in. They have a great selection of pens and writing supplies and a few cute things. It's a lot of the anime Asian pop type stuff. We went solely for the pens. If I went back, I'd do it on a weekday to be able to even look at anything without getting squished against by passers by. There's definitely a "easily offended and still live in my parents basement" vibe to many of the crowd that was there that day. The guy at the desk was very helpful and kind when we were wanting to check out some of the Lamy pens in the case. read more

I've been to several locations of this bookstore in NJ, NYC, Carollton, Plano, Katy, and this location really rocks! I could have been here for hours. This is a huge stationery/boon store featuring lots of Japanese items, including manga, cookbooks, classics, Japanese-made pens + notebooks, and more. I liked browsing the items, but unfortunately I didn't find anything I wanted to purchase since most stationeries were priced on the higher side. For example, a very thin notebook with barely any pages was going for $16 and a pencil case was priced at $21, whereas comparable items can be found online at a fraction of the price. However, this may be a good store if you're looking for Japanese or Asian themed items. read more

Located at such a convenient location, we either come while waiting for Kura next door or right after having Kura so we can properly digest the food lol Though we are probably not their targeted customers (yet), I wish they had a little section for younger kids to sit and flip through books, a safer place so kids don't get accidentally stepped on while choosing which book to take home. Once in a while we do buy those little disney books, fun aprons, or cool gadgets as gifts. Hoping they have good business as it's such a nice bookstore! read more

Bella gave me a great book rec and was just so down-to-earth. Love when people actually love what they do

I would not shop here. I walked into the store with an item which was purchased there and given to me as a gift. I asked for an exchange with store credit not even a refund. The manager denied the exchange. Even when I explained it was a gift so you would never give the receipt with a gift they didn't seem to care. I walked out of the store with the item so what would have been the harm in allowing me to exchange for something I want from the store? Don't shop there and definitely don't buy anyone a gift there because they won't be able to exchange it... read more

Kinokuniya is one of my favorite stores in Austin. It's located in a really nice complex that has a other cool places like 99 Ranch (an asian supermarket) and 85 Ranch (an asian bakery and boba shop). Kinokuniya specializes in Japanese stationary as well as manga and anime related things. I mainly go their to buy manga. They have an amazing manga selection, easily the biggest manga selection you'll find in the Austin area. They all always have their manga cling wrapped so you're the first person to open it and read it after you buy it. I've bought manga from here many times and I will continue to do so. The only downside is they never have sales on the manga outside of their membership Tips - You can buy a $25 membership that gives you a 10% off discount on all manga. - There's a lot of cool places to check out in the complex so you can make a nice outing out of it. - They usually stock manga a few days earlier than the release date so you can get them before they are officially out. read more

They a huge variety of items here in this store, ranging from pins, to books/manga, to stationary.
