I've been to a decent amount of bookstores, and this one is one of favs hands down. The selection, the price, the ambiance. It all just pairs so well. I immediately went to check out the candles and they smelled so good, but if I had to pick a favorite it would have to be the Raven. Everything is neatly organized on the shelves and the amount of LGBTQ+ products was such a refreshing taste to other places I've gone. A queer owned bookstore in south Austin! Oh yes! A charming and cozy bookstore with a knowledgeable and friendly staff. I've been out of the queer lit game for a while, and today Jenna recced some of her favs. She understood my interests immediately and while I didn't get her staff pick, it sounds right up my alley. I did go home with when women were dragons and can't wait to dig in. Bonus: it is the book club pick at quacks and I got a discount. A tiny little gem! One of those magical places that is somehow stuffed to the brim and also very well organized. The proprietors were super friendly and they had the bestseller I was looking for along with a bunch of indie books including zines on how to start a worker cooperative - right up front. We decided to stop by here during a trip to Austin. Being from Houston, there isn't many LGBTQ+ owned book stores. So to be able to come into a well-stocked, friendly, and overall beautiful gay book store, made our trip. The owner was SO knowledgeable in terms of genres of books and gave us both recommendations based on our interests. Over the weekend I was thrilled to discover a new-old bookstore! The magical little bookshop I gushed about not too long ago (Good Buy Books) ended their story this summer... but a new tale will now be told by Reverie Books! The storefront has a fresh coat of paint on the door (that can only be referred to as "Friends" Purple if you ask me), whimsical lighting hanging about, thoughtfully organized shelves, and adorable paper goods for sale at the front. I couldn't pass up the free books cart on the porch but I also found some treasures to buy inside. I delighted in the unique stickers by local artists and also shelves named for community sponsors. Reverie Books has a fresh, inspiring kind of magic about it. I felt so welcome and cheery just walking through that purple door. Reverie represents everything I love about living in 78745. It's friendly, it's welcoming, it's eclectic, it's not overwhelming, and it feels like home. They have a great, curated selection of new and used books. Despite being small, there is something for everyone. Eric Carle for my baby, graphic novels for my husband, a memoir for me, and Texas history books for my dad. This will be my new go-to place for gifts! As a bonus, the owners are incredibly kind. I was in this store the other day and some crazy dude in tattered clothing was blabbering psychotically. Anyway the owner told him to leave and he went absolutely postal, but the staff handled him well, and he ended up meandering off onto Menchaca. Even though my encounter with this unstable patron was jarring, I felt really comfortable and secure when the staff were able to address the issue appropriately. I also think the books here are GREAT, and not dusty in the least. Highly recommended! read more

Thought this would be a cool bookstore so I went in !! Oops BAD MOVE. No one in the store just me. Not greeted by the thing at the front desk when I entered. I don't know, but at MY BUSINESS when someone comes in I ALWAYS at least say hello, you know to make the person feel welcome? anyway.... got a phone call and since nobody was in the store I took the call ( IF there were people in the store I would never have taken the call , I have manners ) I was collecting a pile of books to buy just to help out the sad little shop, they look like they needed.......something.., anyhow, out of NOWHERE this voice YELLS at me, YELLS for me to LEAVE THE STORE AND TAKE MY CALL OUTSIDE.....uhhhh.. okay. Am I bothering uumm ,let me see.......NOBODY????? since no one is in the freakin in the store and YOU didn't even acknowledge your potential customer who was about to drop $100.00 on your dusty books to help out your business and give my friend a gag birthday gift????
