I have to say this store has been a lifesaver for the last year. I decided to teach second grade after being away for so long, and I needed a store like this so much. I found everything I needed and wanted, from lesson plans to games, all at a reasonable price. I must add that the staff was very instrumental in what I needed more than I did. They also suggested I get a discount card, but no need for that because teaching for me was only for one year! So I like to give them a big thank-you from all the teachers who show up, lost, after not teaching for a while! read more

I am grateful that Austin has their own Lakeshore Learning Store! This is THE place to go to for educational materials, toys, and supplies store. They even have a great variety of paints, posters, games, and books too. I visited during the winter holiday and the staff was super helpful and friendly as I made my way around the store. I was offered assistance in finding the specific grade level flashcards and resources I was looking for. There is such a great diverse offerings of methods, themes, and strategies on all the things needed to help support any learner. I loved looking at every single thing in this store as I shopped. There was also great pricing and a large clearance area too worth your time to check out. I highly recommend signing up for the members free/texting offers. They always have great deals and offers. Something for every child at each developmental level. Our daughter loved being able to touch and explore the toys. The prices are very reasonable as well. Great store. If you sign up you can get discount coupons in your e-mail and save on toys or games. Every Saturday 11 am- 3 pm they offer free c crafts for kids. Try to support local companies! Yeah, right! Maybe this company can afford to have snotty reps who answer their phones. Placed an order for FREE shipping, but apparently that's just a c'mon. Their unorganized online ordering doesn't dictate shipping from pick-up. The snotty clerk was quick to cancel to the order v being helpful. Great place to get learning materials for young minds. I visited this place over the last weekend, it made me mad that why didn't I shopped here for my other child who is now in elementary he would have benefited from the large selection of early years books and playing equipments. I see they have a good selection of books and age appropriate materials. Can't say enough about how useful the items here are kids were enjoying every minute, the store also does weekend themes where kids get to do awesome activities while at least one parents can get to shop. There's a new educational products store in the shopping center off Great Hills with the La Madeleine and Macaroni Grill. Like most of the shops in the vicinity, it's a dreaded chain store, but lordy, I have to admit it's a wonderful place for people who spend time with young kids. Lakeshore offers all sorts of toys, books, arts & crafts supplies, and school supplies for kids ages infant to sixth grade, all at very reasonable prices. Products seem most geared toward daycare and elementary school teachers, but families can find lots of cool deals here, too. One good deal that caught my eye was the bucket of toddler-safe vehicles: 25 chunky cars, trucks, and tractors for $30. These looked remarkably similar to (dare I say, exactly the same as) the Viking Toys chubby vehicles that sell for for $40 for a bucket of 15. I love a bargain! Most products are labeled as "Lakeshore Learning" brand, but they also carry well-known names such as Alex, Melissa & Doug, and Priddy Books. Frequent shoppers can sign up for a discount card which gives 15% off most products and early access to sales and special events. You can also take home a copy of their mail order catalog, which offers many other products (playroom furniture, for example) that aren't available in the store. The store also offers weekly free crafting events for ages 3 and up on Saturdays. During my Wednesday afternoon visit, a wonderful song collection of kids singing Beatles classics was playing. I asked whether the CD was available for purchase and the very helpful cashier said that they were out, but he'd be happy to give me a call when they received a new shipment. I gave him my first name and phone number and received the promised call about 8 days later. Old fashioned customer service for a relatively small purchase -- that's something you don't see much these days. I'm sure I'll be giving these folks more of my business. I am not a teacher but I do have young nieces and nephews. More than once I've come into the store and received solid advice or found unique and interesting gifts that weren't just uncreative dolls / ninja turtles. The only negative about this place is that the staff rotates between some extremely capable and wise women who seem to really know their stuff and then some who are just sort of there to check you out. Sometimes both are there, sometimes just one. Still, I can't deny that even without assistance I've walked out with some great holiday presents that drastically improved gift giving. read more

Lakeshore is such a fun store! As a kindergarten teacher, I could spend hours and my whole pay check in this store. They have fantastic games, crafts, puzzles, books, and music here. They are geared towards educators, but I often tell my parents to come here for ways to challenge their children at home. There's a learning tool or game for EVERYTHING here. So much to choose from here. Love coming here for little weekend and rainy day *to-dos*. I buy a lot for my kids'classmates for parties or end of school and whatnot. Reasonably priced. Great store with amazing toys but very disappointed in the rude staff who was at the craft station. We came here today to meet friends so our children can work on crafts. As my 2.5 year old approached the craft table, she mistakenly picked up another child's construction paper because she didn't know that someone was already using it, and immediately the lady stationed at the craft table yelled at her! Like seriously voiced raised yelling saying "hey! That's not yours, that's hers!" I was completely taken aback at such inappropriateness. My child immediately backed away, and I was completely heart broken to see my child treated in such a way. We don't even yell at her like that at home. The way that staff handled the situation was not only rude but completely unacceptable. My friend who was with me even mentioned that she thinks she may even be racist based on her previous experience with her. Knowing that another mom also feels that this specific staff is inappropriate, it made me realize that the store management needs to seriously take this into consideration. While we did buy some toys when we left, we will certainly not be returning until the rude staff is no longer there assaulting young children. read more

Fantastic little toy store. Several toys are on display so you can see and handle them before deciding. Probably mostly made in China but the castle/dragon we bought as a gift was very well made and huge fun for the kiddos. We also got the dozen excavating dino eggs which creates a mess and leaves your hands feeling gritty but was a hit with kids and adults alike and was a great price relative to other excavating kits I have bought - so well worth it. Overall I rate it tops and would recommend it to anyone. read more

This store is great! Love the open, bright atmosphere and that they have an area to keep the kids entertained while I shop. I bought lots of fun, educational games and toys here for Christmas last year. They can be a bit overpriced but they often have sales and put out coupons so it's not a big deal. I'm thrilled that they have at least one of each item out and open to play with first hand to see if you like it before making the purchase. Yes it is kind of expensive, but not all items are overpriced, I price matched a few with Amazon and they ended up being equal once you factor in shipping... Lakeshore is the best store in the world for educational toys. They have everything super organized and tidy. They have toys out so kids can play with them and the staff is very helpful. They also test all of their toys for safety. With so many chemicals in toys these days it is nice that a store actually takes the time to do research, and avoid selling toxic toys. They have the best toys, games, books, music etc. I would recommend this store to both teachers and parents. The only down side is that everytime I go there I want to spend too much money. I now only take cash to avoid the many temptations. This is a wonderful store worth the drive no matter where you live in Austin. read more
