I'm a sucker for a chicken Philly cheesesteak and when I saw Wonderphilly at Fremont Street Eats it felt like it was meant to be. With so many food options it's hard to settle on one but I'm glad I decided on this truck. Their chicken Philly was one of the bests I've ever had. There was an incredible amount of meat, peppers, and onions. The seasoning of the meat was on point and the peppers added a nice, subtle kick to the cheesesteak. read more

I get it that people have really strong opinions about Philly Cheesesteaks. And this doesn't exactly conform to what I have in my mind as the idealized Philly Cheesesteak. But for what it is, it's quite tasty and filling. The King Philly: It was definitely big and meaty. The cheese didn't feel doubled though. It was the white American cheese variety and it seemed glued to the bread. Was kinda disappointed that Cheez Whiz wasn't the default configuration. That aside, the sandwich was quite satisfying. Thin meat that was nicely seared. Lots of peppers, some grilled and some spicy pickled. Plus the bread was soft and chewy, just how it should be. Chicken Bacon Ranch Philly: I was feeling a bit chaotic, so decided to get a Philly that seemed very untraditional. It was shockingly delicious! Thankfully the chicken was shaved thin and seared, like beef steak. Some places do chicken chunks and that's just not the same. Noticeable strands of bacon, though was surprisingly not as crispy as the chicken. I didn't notice too much distinct ranch dressing, so it was probably cooked in. Did have a lot of flavor. Same nice chewy roll base with lots of onions and peppers. read more

This food truck comes to my work. And I've had it twice. It's a good Philly cheese steak. I like that the meat is cooked a little crispy, they use the right bread and the sweet peppers are good. I would say this is my 4th favorite (not a bad thing by any means) Philly cheese spot in the Bay Area. It's definitely good, filling and the staff is friendly It's one of the trucks that I will frequent at work as I know what I'm getting and know I will be satisfied with my lunch for sure read more

Went to Off the Grid in Pleasant Hill. Unbelievable how much food truck prices are in 2025, pretty much across the board. But $20 for a cheesesteak and $10 for fries?! (Although they did give a lot of fries that could feed 3-4 people.) I waited an unusually long time for a pretty average classic cheesesteak. The chef handed my food to me and didn't offer me ketchup as he did for others, so I had to strain to reach the container high up on the window. I had asked for sweet peppers on my cheesesteak and only found a couple. I was fairly certain the poor service and food was because I hadn't left a tip, but now looking at the reviews and photos of this place I can see it's pretty standard practice. read more

Food truck in San Francisco China Basin area. I ordered the beef classic philly with everything. Sandwiche was dry. Tasted pre- made, cold, no cheese, little onion, and chili peppers. They had can sodas. Service was fairly quick because this is a food truck. You buy food and sit in the general picnic table area. Overall, food was 2 stars. It is convenient because there are other food trucks to try. Overall, 3 stars out of 5. read more

The food is just okay. For a $20 price tag, I would think the meat quality and presentation would be better. First off, I couldn't find or taste the cheese realized that it was because the cheese was melted onto the hoagie buns instead of on top of the meat like a typical Philly cheesesteak. They threw everything in and it was a bit of a soggy sandwich. The meat was crumbly and wasn't in slices like they typically are in a cheesesteak. They also only have a few items on the menu, many of which are made of steak so you would think there are plenty ready made... not sure why it takes so long to assemble a sandwich, but the wait took forever! You need at least 3 people running this truck and it would help to be friendly and nice when placing orders and when delivering your meal! read more

Expensive, but at least the serving size made it feel like an okay deal. I just found the sandwich lacking in flavor... The bread was quite nice, nice and fluffy texture, but the rest was lackluster. Not enough cheese, the steak wasn't really flavorful and the hot peppers just overpowered everything. If Wonderphilly is going to brand themselves on being authentic, all they really need is solid steak, white American cheese (or cheese whiz) and good bread. It's simple and has to be all about the ingredients. read more

The Experience: Had Wonderphilly at a food truck outside Drake's Barrel House in San Leandro. The overall flavor of the filling was just okay, but couldn't get over the soggy bread that ruined the whole sandwiches. Notable: $15 is a bit pricey for the quality and quantity of food we received. read more

The days of Wonderphilly being a family-operated cart outside the Fox theater, and then turning into the new truck are gone, and I think with it my desperate nostalgia glasses for a good cheese steak in the Oakland. Through early 2020, Wonderphilly would pull up outside the Fox on Friday and Saturday nights to capture concert and late night traffic. I'd still hit them up on those nights I needed the good feelings only a cheese steak can bring, and more often than not I was left not with those feelings but disappointment. Gone is the owner/chef who really loved what he did, as well as his family supporting the business. The past few times I've gone it has been a woman who clearly would love to be anywhere but in the truck. This past Friday, after doing the knee-in at Frank Ogawa, I walked over the Wonderphilly on Broadway. Across the street was the new, overpriced BeniHibachi truck with a swarm of people outside - I guess people have nothing better to do than to wait an hour on $30 worth of grilled meat and rice. No thanks. Meanwhile Wonderphilly had no line - for a reason. I stood there a few minutes waiting for the woman inside to notice me, and when she did, she didn't even bother pausing her phone conversation to take my order, confusing both me and whomever she was talking. Great service. Got a regular combo and waited as other kneelers walked by, took one look at Wonderphilly, and kept walking. Fortunately my food came pretty quick, as the occupied cook gave me my food without another word. No offer of ketchup packets for my fries, or even a bag to carry my food. Just two tinfoil wrapped objects. I got home and the disappointment turned into anger. About a year ago, the meat in the regular was overflowing the roll. Now I felt there was more bread than meat - the image as advertised that night on the instagram account was not what I received. I also had to season the sandwich itself because the flavor was bland. I hate to say it, but this was the last time I'm ordering from Wonderphilly. The current poor service and poor quality does not justify business. I suggest you look elsewhere for your cheese steak needs. read more

Wonderphilly - Garlic fries - Cheesesteaks Near Me - Oakland, California

Found Wonderphilly next to all the other food trucks parked at Oakland Coliseum while attending an A's game. I was drawn to it because of the examples they laid out in front for everyone to see as well as the thought of some delicious philly cheesesteaks. While waiting in line, me and the gf decided on getting the Fully Loaded Nachos instead as it would be something easier for the two of us to share while we watched the game. After waiting about 10mins, our order was ready. For $12, we got a pretty good sized container loaded with tortilla chips, loads of cheese, onions, peppers, and sauce. It was a pretty great deal for the quantity of food provided as well as the fact that it was from a food truck at the ballpark. Taste wise, it was decent. However definitely the meat was a bit salty and clumped together. Overall, not a bad alternative to the overpriced nachos found inside the stadium. read more

While in Oakland, with my family on a beautiful Saturday afternoon; we went searching for the best Philly cheese steak sandwiches in town. Spotting this food truck in downtown Oakland was right on time. Not only did the menu have exactly what we were looking for, but it had so much more. I decided upon the Philly sliders with a side a French fries. AMMMMAAAAAAAZZZZINNNNGGGGG! The meat was so flavorful; seasoned well, and I love that I was able to add extra sweet peppers free of charge. My son had a classic Philly and pretty much inhaled it in 2.5 seconds, he loved it. Other food items we tried were the Buffalo Chicken Philly and it was delicious as well. If I could give an extra 5 stars I would. Well hell; why not ! The facility was impeccably clean and spotless; which is always key. The owner/cook, Edward, was very nice and personable. He even offered to take a nice picture of us. Who does that?! So sweet. To make a long story short; the food is awesome, the truck is clean, and the owner is very nice. We will be back again and again until we try everything on the menu. Great experience. read more

Wonderphilly - a person holding a box of food - Cheesesteaks Near Me - Oakland, California

The sandwich was delicious, but there was no cheese on it. Still delicious. And ok price for a food truck. What bumped the price up to 25.75 was the fries. And what sad limp fries they were. The order took extra long because of the fries. If they double fried them I think they would have been vastly improved. I think the thing to do is not get any extras like soggy fries, just the sandwich and remind them that you'd like cheese on it. I found the sandwich very delicious. read more

Rude staff, sub mediocre food. Just sad. We were told a King Philly ($19) came with double the meat, cheese and peppers. What did it end up coming with? Double the meat and absolutely zero cheese or peppers. We would've spoken up if the window server hadn't threatened us with a, "Is there a problem? Is there A *problem*?" They didn't even bother to toast their bread either. They were just straight out the bag. I'd compare their meals to the food you dread eating in the lunch cafeteria. For 27 dollars, I expected some semblance of quality. I ordered the pizza philly (20 dollars) and a side of fries (7 dollars). The meat on the Pizza Philly was ok, but the sauce, the cheese, and the bun where cold. The bun was definitely untoasted and just soaked in grease. Overall it was disappointing and nowhere near the price. The fries were inedible. They were cold and undercooked to the point it seemed like they were raw. No season and the portion was so small that I could get more fries from a small fry at McDonalds read more

WonderPhilly had me feelin' WONDERFUL on a Friday night after 4 hours of dancing and drinking! :: WHOA!:: I must be getting old because Frist Fridays in Oakland wore me OUT! After wobbling out of the bars onto Telegraph, I noticed the long line at WonderPhilly and wanted to see what all the fuss was about! As my girlfriends were standing on the corner making commotion as to where we were going to go next; I politely and soundlessly escaped their sight and walked to where my nose smelled the good food aroma! WonderPhilly is located on the side of the Fox Theater on Telegraph. It's a black-owned restaurant that serves delicious hot and fresh 12-inch Philly cheesesteaks that are to die for. As I knew I couldn't make it back to the ladies empty-handed, I ordered a 12 inch Philly cheesesteak with everything on it (and made sure that it was cute in half so the ladies can have their own piece to share); and I ordered the biggest order of fries since I knew I would have to share the meal. The order was reasonable and came out to $13 and I stood on the side and waited for them to freshly make my order. **Now, Wonderphilly not only serves Philly Cheesesteak, but they also serve hot links, nachos, and sandwiches! However, if you have never tried them before, I suggest you start with the cheesesteak and work your tummy down the menu!** 15 mins of waiting and my order was finally called. Oh Lawd, if I had it my way, I would have hidden in the corner and took the whole meal down! However, I knew if I was gone for too long, the ladies would have figured out I escaped. So, I went back; but before I did that, I made sure to cute the Philly in half so it was clear that I was only sharing one half of my sammich! Good thing I did that because once I walked back to the group and they smelled the good food aroma, everyone's hands were in my food bag! I kindly pulled out the half of sammich and handed it to the 6 ladies in the group and watched all of them each takes a bite (of heaven) wishing they had more! I would have thought it was choir show because they all asked in unison, "Where did you get that from!" I kindly smirked as I walked away with my Philly cheesesteak in my left and my bag of fries in my right hand and ate my food in peace. I knew right then and there, that I was in LOVE with WonderPhilly! I will definitely be trying more of their menu as they are located in Hayward! This place is LIFE! read more

Wonderphilly - Cheesesteaks Near Me - Oakland, California

Have had this a few times after shows at the Fox theater and was very excited to see them with their own food stand during this past Oakland First Friday! I had ordered the buffalo chicken cheesesteak in the past, but decided to go with the classic philly this time, with all of the toppings (white American, hot and sweet peppers). The people who seem to run/own this place are lovely and really nice and they had my sandwich ready super quickly. The steak and peppers were really delicious and this absolutely hit the spot for my cheesesteak craving. My boyfriend and I ate it in our apartment as we live right across the street, but I think it may have been a little difficult to eat if we didn't have plates/forks. My only recommendation would maybe be to have some plates available to make it a slightly easier eating situation, but the food itself is delicious and I highly recommend checking it out! read more

I found the wonder philly food truck at the coliseum, it was more disappointing than the Angels that game. When I ordered at the beginning of the game they were already out of steak. I ordered the king philly with chicken. The chicken was shredded yet somehow dry almost dehydrated like. The bread was also dry and bland, reminiscent of shitty school lunches. At a price of 23 dollars, you'll be full but i hope you'll be stoned or drunk enough to not need your taste buds. read more

I have never left one star review before. The staff was just so rude! When I ordered they were two people in front of me. The lady told me it's a 15 mins wait after I ordered. So we came back 15mins later to check on the order. When got back, I waited and waited and waited. A couple other people were waiting as well for a looong time. Every time I ask, she said yours is next. But it was never next. So 30 mins later, I lost patient since my family were waiting the whole time. I asked again when it's coming, another man came and started screaming at me: did you not see the line when you ordered? I'm like it doesn't matter if I saw the line, your staff told me it was 15 mins. And he kept pointing and screaming at me rudely and yield did you not see the line when you ordered! I had to ask him back, did your staff not see the line when I order? All I asked for is to set the right expectation, not anything else. It's a open lake, I could have just hang out and come back in 30mins. But they made me and other people wait 30 mins and then scream at customers. I didn't want to leave a bad review first given the covid situation, but the staff screaming at the customer when they are being slow is unacceptable. Btw, I ordered fries, not anything that takes long to make. So were the other orders, fries or philly steak. read more

To sum it all up, the line was significantly long due to incorrect orders placed and wrong food given. Confusion ensued and we were left waiting to get overly priced subpar food. Even if we forgot the pandemonium before we even got to order, what ultimately made us upset was the price point of the items we received. If you are going to charge 17 dollars for fully loaded nachos or an extra 7 dollars for garlic fries and a drink, we are expecting you to (over) deliver. Either lower your prices for the mediocre food you are serving or add more ingredients to pacify our hunger because it's just a slap in the face for people who waited in line and waded through the bullshit to have food we could of picked up from the local gas station for a whole lot less. read more

I went to the food truck. There were four orders ahead of me that ordered philly steak sandwiches. I ordered fries with cheese on the side. It took over 15 just for the fries and the $3 charge for cheese would be ok if it wasn't the size of two soy sauce packets. I'll pass.. Never again. read more

Bad. Had such high hopes for original philly. It says, hot peppers and sweet peppers etc. Maybe they should just say jalapeños. What kind of animal wants jalepeños all up n down a Philly cheesesteak. She litterlally f'd my sandwich all the way up. Waited till I got home to find out I have a flaming hot Cheeto sandwich. I had the pleasure of trying Wonder Philly twice at So Oakland Summer Events. Each time they had vegan option for us to pick from. Their Loaded Vegan Nachos were to die for. OMG to die for. I wish they had avocado. My husband had the BBQ Philly he devoured in seconds. He said he enjoyed the combination of all the flavors. My second time at SO Oakland, I was excited to see Wonder Philly there. Again they didn't disappoint. This time I tried the Veggie Philly Combo. It came with a drink and fries.
