You can absolutely smell the fish and vinegar as soon as you walk through the door, which I think gives the place a very homey pub feel. I ordered a spiked peach Arnold Palmer, which I enjoyed (and it was pleasantly strong) and a glass of the house white, which was good for the price. Our server was very fast and attentive. To eat I got the tomato soup with a grilled cheese, which was absolutely fantastic. The soup was so creamy and flavorful, and I cannot imagine a better meal after spending all day walking outside in the rain. The fries were super crispy and I liked the batter. My partner and I shared some of their breadsticks, which were deliciously baked (fresh!) and came with a super refreshing basil crema and a nice tomato-y dip. Wonderful all. My partner ordered fish and chips, and was surprised to find that it is one large fillet of fish, not multiple pieces like you would typically expect. He said the fish was fine, but a little tough. Overall, a wonderful experience. I definitely hope to return. I highly recommend this place as a refuge during the cold winter months!

But the last few times I've stopped in for a meal, it feels like the food isn't quite as impressive as it used to be. Could be all in my head. Not sure. But it's always a nice spot to hang out and chat with friends, you can get seated quicker if you enter through Over & Out, which basically functions as an extension of the main Observatory, with it's own bar and pool tables.

The space itself is smaller and intimate, so bringing a larger group than about 4-5 people might not be ideal. The ambiance definitely gave Italy vibes, for sure. The chicken liver mousse was a good consistency, paired with the figs gave a nice balance between sweet and savory. The steak frites was a classic, steak was a good portion and cooked medium rare, but I'm sure if you wanted it more cooked through, you could make that request. The fries were definitely a standout, great texture and the garlic flavor gave a good contrast to the steak. My favorite dish was the dessert, the flaky crust gave a nice texture to the cream insides. I'm a huge passionfruit fan, so once I saw it was on the menu, I knew I had to try it. It didn't disappoint and I would definitely come back just for this dish alone. Overall a solid experience and would recommend people to try Canard out at least once!

My husband is always craving a steak for his birthday and I've heard never-ending, amazing things…read moreabout Laurelhurst Market, so we made a reservation to celebrate. We got seated right away, the hostess was friendly and mentioned the birthday listed on the reservation. To start, we ordered two cocktails, the beef tartare, and the shishitos peppers. The beef tartare was incredibly fresh and flavorful and the mustard vinaigrette was the perfect touch. The blistered shishitos were good, however, they were underwhelming compared to everything else and we probably wouldn't order them again. For our entree, we shared the Brandt Ranch Ribeye which was phenomenal - definitely one of our top 5 steaks we've ever had. We prefer medium rare and it was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of crème fraiche to not overpower the flavor of the steak. Plus, the bacon vinaigrette went very well with the entire meal. We were incredibly impressed with the meal and the atmosphere, and we'd join again for sure. The area in which our experience lacked was the service, which was disappointing and didn't make us feel great ordering anything else. After we got our appetizers, and then entree, we were not checked on once and I had to wave down our server for another round of drinks. At the same time, he was supposed to get us a water refill which we never ended up getting. Our server didn't mention anything in regards to a birthday, never asked how our cocktails or food was, checked on every table around us (besides us) and we didn't even get a thank you as we passed him heading out the door. Because I've consistently heard amazing things about Laurelhurst, I'll take this as a fluke because I definitely believe in second chances, especially when the food was that good, but I hope the next server we get is more attentive and friendly. Neither of us would expect a birthday beverage or dessert, but after dining at several places where they offer a glass of champagne, a small dessert, etc. it definitely stands out when an establishment like this doesn't offer or acknowledge a celebration. Till next time - Cheers

When we got there in time for our reservation, the host was on the phone making us wait a few minutes for his attention. Then, we were seated near the main passageway at a fourtop even though we were just two and there were a lot of two tops available for the early reservation. Our female server was rushed from the get go. While I was perusing the drink menu, she ran off to get my partner his wine because he had decided already. She wasn't willing to wait 5 seconds for me to decide. She was in a hurry to service other diners. It wound up being this way throughout the meal. There was constant rushing and not paying attention to us. It felt awkwardly harried. The problem with the food was my dish came half hot, half cold. The quail was hot and very flavorful while the pureed peas and potatoes were served cold under the quail. Normally, I would send it back for this, but I was too hungry and didn't want to hassle it. This entree was $38. But the biggest offense was that I wrote the restaurant about my experience and they did not respond. I might give a place another chance if they cared enough to hear from their customers and apologize, but that didn't happen. Hence this review.

It was a great place to slow down, enjoy good food, and spend time together. The smoked brisket hash was the standout. It came with tender brisket, eggs, breakfast potatoes, peppers, onions, and vegetables. The flavors worked really well together. It was hearty, flavorful, and had something different in almost every bite. We also tried the burger and fries. They were simple, solid, and satisfying. The fries had a nice crisp, and the burger was a good choice for a classic brunch or lunch option. I also really appreciated the non-alcoholic drink selection. A lot of places treat zero-proof drinks like an afterthought, but here they actually had fun options. The Phony Espresso Negroni was a great non-alcoholic cocktail and made the meal feel special without needing alcohol. Overall, this was a very enjoyable brunch with good food, friendly service, a relaxed patio, and enough variety on the menu that I would happily come back again.
