Came here as part of my twelve months of dining Christmas present from my hubby. It also happened to be Portland Dining Month so great opportunity to try some of their special dishes! We started with a Pilsner and mocktail. I had the SUEÑOS DE PISAC which was very "bright" in flavor with pineapple, lime, and ginger syrup. For my appetizer, I had the Choros y Papas Fritas steamed mussels with fries. Hubs had the Alitas de Pato peking duck wings. Both were delicious! I preferred the mussels as I am not a fan of poultry skin. Overall I would say it was a disappointing meal as the food quality and offerings don't justify the price point. Cocktails were good and perhaps just stopping here for a drink is all that's needed. We chose Andina for our 45th anniversary dinner, and unfortunately the experience fell well short of what I expected from such a highly regarded restaurant. Despite the name, the interior did not feel particularly Andean. I was not looking for a theme park, but I did expect more authentic visual or cultural touches to give the room some connection to the restaurant's identity. The service was similarly subdued: the servers were perfectly civil, but their affect was so muted that the room lacked warmth and animation. The pacing was also poor. The delay between my salad and the lomo saltado was long enough to become annoying. The lomo itself was disappointing. The pieces of beef were too large, the red onions had not been cooked long enough to become tender and lose their sting, the sauce was so concentrated that it became cloying, and there were so few tomatoes that the dish felt almost like a paleo entrée rather than a balanced lomo saltado. There was one final irritation. When I made the reservation online, the system specifically asked whether we were celebrating an occasion. I selected "anniversary" and then forgot about it. Nothing was said when we arrived or during dinner. Only after the bill had been paid, when the server returned with the receipt, did she wish me a happy anniversary. By then my husband had already left the table. Perhaps the reservation system is perversely designed so that the occasion information does not become visible until checkout, but if so, that is a badly designed system. If a restaurant asks whether a dinner is a special occasion, it should use that information while the occasion is actually taking place. Nothing about the evening was disastrous, but taken together--the generic atmosphere, oddly flat service, slow pacing, disappointing lomo saltado, and belated acknowledgment of our anniversary--it left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

My husband and I went to try Andina for the first time on our Anniversary, and they didn't disappoint! The sommelier helped us paid the right bottle of red wine with our meal. He took the time to explain how it would pair and came back to check on us to ensure we were enjoying the wine. We started with the pineapple salsa and bread mix - the sourdough was so fresh! The multigrain had a strong star anise flavor and hazelnut butter spread was fantastic. The causa de pulpo (octopus), starter was tender with the right amount of heat and the potatoes were fantastic! The grilled salmon was fantastic. The amazing team at Anding brought us a tasty matcha butterscotch ice cream to help us celebrate our anniversary. Never would have guessed that flavor combination but it was a perfect pairing! The only aspect that we had a bit of a hard time with was the volume in the restaurant. It's gorgeous in there but it was loud. We said across from each other and had an extremely tough time hearing each other talk between the music and general restaurant conversation. A lot of vegetarian and gluten free options if you don't eat meat or have other dietary restrictions this would be a great spot. The duck was so good it fell right off the bone. So flavorful. Yucca fries were crispy and fresh, came with a delicious sauce. My mom thought the dessert we got was amazing. Servers were very friendly. I was looking for something delicious near downtown Portland. This is the land of good food so my hopes were high. This place did not disappoint. The service was impeccable, the wine selection was unusual and delicious. The tapas were amazing, especially the ceviche and the Peruvian beans. For our first course, we got the choros y papas fritas with mussels & the alitas de Pato with peking duck. For our second course, we got the lomo saltado and pescado al rocotao y kion. Everything was delicious, high quality, and had a balance of flavors. I especially enjoyed the choros y papas fritas! Our first experience was so positive we decided to come back on another weekend spent in Portland. Well, some of the food was still good and we enjoyed the drinks, but the quality has dropped for sure. Appetizers: The octopus was very salty, and some pieces were a bit tough. Ceviche remains a highlight, but I was sad to see they only had one option on the menu now. Yuca fries were also still delicious as well. Main dishes: There were steamed mussels with my trout and half of them were inedible, the smell was so bad. The fish itself was fine. The chicken was pretty dry, but the yummy sauces sort of make up for it. However, some of the fingerling potatoes were also inedible because of being rock hard. Lomo saltado and grilled salmon entrees were both good, cooked perfectly and had balanced flavors. Overall, for the price range, it was not worth it to return, especially because our service was not the best this visit. Tasty Peruvian food! We visited Andina early on a Saturday night, and it was mostly empty when we arrived and about three-quarters full when we left. The restaurant is decorated with a plethora of plants and earth tones. Acoustic guitar music played during our visit. I tried the vicuna de cusco to drink, the ceviche de conchas as a starter, and the hongos saltados as a main. The vicuna de cusco had a delicious blend of flavors. The ceviche was tasty although it would have been nice if they drained a bit more of the liquid before serving. The hongos saltados had a tasty sauce and the mushrooms were delectable. It was a bit strange to me to mix in the french fries like they did, but it ended up being quite good. Overall, I had a great experience at Andina, and I would recommend them for Peruvian food in Portland. read more

The Andina brunch was quite excellent. I never thought I would say this, but the absolute hands-down favorite was their drip coffee. It was bold yet as smooth as could be. You have to order the pastry roll; it's perfection with the coffee. Not to be left behind, the food was actually equally good. I was so surprised that I liked a meat based ceviche but it's balanced (not so acidic as other ceviches in the past), the meat is tender, and the combination of the ingredients was a surprising hit on my palette. I also ordered the fried chicken appetizer and yuka chip side, and pot de chocolate. All are solid, as was the argyle sparkling wine. I tried the Sauvignon Blanc and orange wine but didn't like them. Went on a weeknight with a group of 4 for happy hour. They have a good selection of food and drinks. The quality was EXCELLENT, everything was flavorful and well cooked. The only downside is the tiny tiny portion sizes. For example a plate of chicken skewers came with two (see photo) and a portion of samosa was one. I think the ceviche was my favorite and probably the only item priced reasonably. Between the four of us our bill was just over $200. Ordered family style for a group of 3, we shared the lomo saltado, pollo la brasa, anticucho de pollo, ceviche de conchas, and yuca fritas along with some pisco sours. The sauce on the lomo saltado was close but was lacking some flavors and could have been thickened a bit more. Overall all of the sauces, which are heavily relied on were on the bland side. Including the amarillo sauce and the lime sauce on the ceviche. The chicken skewers were good but it was funny to see 2 tiny skewers come out for $15. As far as the rest of the food it was fine but it wasn't quite Peruvian. Service also wasn't anything special. Our food was dropped off and we weren't checked on afterwards until it came time to pay. Andina has long been and still is one of our favorite restaurants in Portland. I've been here for after work happy hours (4-5 daily in the bar area), work events, special celebratory dinners, and general dinners with friends. The service has always been incredibly friendly and accommodating, and it's always a treat when Mama Doris would come say hello! The food is always incredible. I always enjoy the seafood options. I don't think I've ever had a dish here that I didn't like! It's a great wine list, too. The dining room is a beautiful open space with comfortable booths along the windows. If you're looking for event space, I've been to intimate dinners in the private dining space downstairs and larger corporate events, and the staff always does an amazing job. Parking in the area can be tricky, so plan for some time to find street parking. Or there's a garage a short walk away. Always looking forward to my next meal at Andina! read more

3.5/5 stars I will start with saying I came for a private group dinner, not individual dining. We sat in a private room in the basement that had a single private restroom around the corner. Service was very attentive for water but I do wish they had asked us for drink orders more than once for those of us not enjoying wine. I also wished that they had kept some of the plates on the table when they switched out courses. It would've been nice to have some potatoes and salad with the meat, which was served the next round. There was quite a bit of time between the different parts of dinner being served. Unfortunately, that also meant that the entire main entrée service was lukewarm, if not cold. We were served fried fritters and beet skewers for appetizers. The Ensalada con Kiwicha served at the table was fairly basic and uninteresting. I enjoyed the Papa a la Huancaina but there were far too many olives on the platter. The side of rice was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The vegetables, on the other hand, were bland and undercooked. My table commented how the carrots seemed to be raw. Lomo Corto a la Parrilla had good flavor but was very very chewy, to the point where I found it offputting. The Pasta Al Pesto was great and very interesting- the mushrooms added a nice element of texture to the dish. The Pollo a la Brasa was delicious as well- perfectly cooked and the salsa it was served with was a huge hit at the table. We were served panna cotta and cookies for dessert- which were alright but nothing I'd think about again. I was a bit bummed about this experience because Andina has been on my go-to list for quite some time, but I'm glad to have gone and will continue to explore the rest of the Portland food scene. read more
