    Salmon

Pasta taken to another level. Besides having some types of pasta you don't see every day, the delicacy they put into each dish, and all the great quality ingredients, and the thoughtfulness in the preparation, it's unique! This is another restaurant where the team pays a lot of attention to our food restrictions and helps us to know what is more recommended based on what we can't eat, making notes in the menu calling out what would work better for us (I love when they do this and show attention to the customer). The salmon was amazing: well done as I ordered, and the greens were so flavorful! I'll definitely be back to this great location with a great team - from the hostess, waiter, and cooking team, they were all very knowledgeable and ready for all our questions.

This is a beautiful restaurant and you can tell they pride themselves on quality ingredients. We went in on a Monday and apparently that's when they get their fresh half pig for all their pork dishes! I absolutely had to try one. I tried the ragu which was a bit salty and one note. However everything else I tried I really enjoyed. The broccolini was tasty and fishy, the beets with burrata were smoky and delicious. The bread was a crowd favorite. The ginger zero proof drink was nice and tart and strong which helped me with the ragu. I'll definitely be back, if not mostly for the delicious and fresh veggie apps.

Snap peas salad with crispy rice

4.5 stars. Excellent service. Food is solid and unique here. MUST GET: - snap pea salad with crispy rice. This one has really interesting texture with crispy rice and crunchy snap pea. Some Vietnamese flavors in this dish. SOLID: calamari salad with ceci (chickpea): tender calamari with chickpea. SKIP: Rigatoni with gianciale (bacon). - large strips of bacon. A bit too salty. Carrot agnolotti - a bit too rich for my taste. Didn't love the sweetness inside carb. May need a bit more acidity or herb in this one to balance the flavor. The next table has the linguini with clams and shrimp and jalapeno. Looked delicious. We couldn't order it due to dietary constraints. Excellent sparking orange wine by the glass. La Collina 'Lunaris Secco', beautiful balance of acidity and a hint of sweetness. Went well with most food. Haven't had many sparkling orange wine in the past - this is one of the best I remember among sparkling red or sparkling orange, including rose champagne. Beautiful interior and the service was excellent (loved our waitress Erin who was friendly, great with kids, and great in antipating our needs). I didn't like the carrot agnotti. They subbed it out right away and accomodated ordering a half portion of pasta given that I showed up with 5.5yo and couldn't eat too much food. The bread was burnt with the calamari salad and they got new ones right away.

Some really nice Italian food in a comfortable space with friendly service. We tried several dishes and all the desserts, and would run back anytime. Excellent execution on the food, and superb ingredient quality. We will definitely be returning for more the next time we are in Portland.

A word that I reserve for only the finest experiences, sublime! For as next level as this experience is, it was also extremely friendly unapproachable. The mood in there is light yet professional. They have a wonderful wine steward by the name of Beatrice that I highly recommend taking advantage of their exceptional knowledge. Now for the food. We ordered everything! The pasta is so stopping. Velvety, flavorful, beautiful, thoughtfully prepared. You honestly can't go wrong. Clearly with everything that we ate and drank, we spent more on dinner than we normally do, but it was worth every penny. And I can't wait to go back again.

Staff was super attentive , we did the reservation on ressy we got their 10 min early and we were seated right away. Very good job in explaining food plate sizes and not pushy at all on trying to sell you food . Every meal had new utensils .the also cleaned the table and all waiters stopped by to fill water and make sure the area was clean ! Drinks were really good and over all the price was fair !

My husband and I came here on a Saturday evening. We had made reservations through Ressy. When we got there, we were greeted nicely at the door. Not long after we were taken to our seat. We sat at the kitchen bar. We were able to see the kitchen staff preparing and cooking the food. It was a fun experience. We ordered a little bit of everything. The food came out in a timely manner and we loved it all. The pork chop was indeed the star of the show.

What a cute little spot. When we first walked in, the vibe was cozy with warm lights and a welcoming atmosphere. The food was delicious, and the bottle of wine we shared was amazing. Portions were a little small, but everything was full of flavor. The service was great, and everyone was so friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be coming back again.

If you are on the fence, lemme just tell to do it. Sure it's a little pricey but the quality of the food is amazing. Tips for a good experience: 1) Make a reservation. This place is so busy and for good reason. Do it at least a week ahead. 2) It's family style so bring your friends, share, and split the bill. Not sure how much to order? Ask your wait staff. For our party of 5, we were told we ordered humbly, which is a nice way to say you need a little more. 3) Parking is difficult but there is a tiny lot nearby shared with another restaurant. Failing that park on the residential streets about a block away. 4) it gets loud, but don't shout at each other as that will make things worse. 5) Portions are not huge but surprisingly filling you without overeating. Don't expect leftovers. 6) It's dimly lit for the ambiance, so use the flashlight on your smartphone to read your menu. 7) They have a coat checkin. Use it. It's warm inside so not having to deal with your coat is nice. 8) they have still and sparking water. I love the option of sparking water. It's complimentary too! The flavors are phenomenal. Perfect textures, flavors, aromas. Enjoy every bite and take your time. This place is not to be missed and quite an experience you won't forget. I can't wait to go back. The menu is seasonal so always changing.

Do I remember the name? No. Was it delicious? YES!

Had an incredibly memorable dinner here years ago when I was having a major chef-crush on Joshua McFadden and his vegetable book. I have dinner out every couple months with a friend and we usually go to a mid-priced restaurant and have a lovely meal. We planned for a slightly larger group this month and I wasn't sure if our friends would be up for this, but we're all glad we had dinner here. The restaurant is beautiful, but coming and going, it feels pretty small and tight. It's also rather loud, although once we were seated in our little corner table, it wasn't so bad. I'm guessing those in the middle tables might have more issues with noise? Service was on point and friendly. We weren't super hungry, but since everything is family style, we weren't sure how much to order. Our server was so diplomatic - she did feel that our order was "humble" and suggested we add another primo or secondo. We did and every plate was fully cleaned. The food to me is indescribable - its very well made, tasty and creative. I always think even the simplest foods in Europe are so good and this restaurant is one of the few that rivals food in Europe for me. I will return and hopefully soon. I told my friend that I simply want to come back and order the entire vegetable line up with some bread or polenta next time.

fantastic service for an evening cocktail! enjoyed chatting with the bartender, such fun + creative cocktails! got the olives too which were amazing! love the building & interiors! will be coming back for dinner

    Pasta!
    Marc S.

We had dinner here a few weeks ago for my friend's birthday and enjoyed every little thing. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The ambiance was relaxed and the lighting was a bit dark. We started with some lovely bread and butter. Then, cocktails and chatting & we ordered some starters and a bottle of wine. I know just a little about wine so my wine enthusiast friend selected a bottle of red. It tasted good to me.. And it really opened up after a little while and paired nicely with the very rich pasta.. So much good food and good times! We will definitely be back! Thanks

The cheese and crack sundae has toasted marshmallow, chocolate, and cinnamon cracker crumbs. Omg the cinnamon crumbs are so good, that with the ice cream was really yummy (I'm a simple girl what can I say). The chocolate hardened into a chocolate shell and it was kind of only on the bottom of the cup so that was a little disappointing. The toasted marshmallow didn't add much, but maybe I'm biased bc I don't rlly care for toasted marshmallow ‍ Overall, the entire sundae is mainly a ton of vanilla ice cream. It's a big portion that I shared with someone else. Second time I went, I got the banana pudding sundae which was soooo good. I shared this with my friend and it was plenty. They give a good amount of banana pudding and you can tell it's quality. I saw bananas, the bread/wafer part, and it pairs nicely with the ice cream. Prob my favorite thing from this place. My other friend got the pbo which was also good. They layer oreo and peanut butter pudding so you get it all throughout the sundae which is nice. She also got an everything cookie which has literally everything in it. It was texturally interesting and not too sweet! Overall, good flavors and quality ice cream. The portions are a bit big and I wish they had half or even quarter sizes since these came in huge cups. At a certain point, the vanilla ice cream becomes flavorless bc there's so much of it but the sundaes were still pretty good!

For two people we paid $150 with tip, and that was without desserts and coffee. Things of note from a Friday night summer visit to this place that's been there four years now: High-end presentation. The plating is top level and each thing they place in front of you is like a sculpture or work of art. Nice energy, not at all too loud. They have acoustic tiles on the ceiling and on the concrete floor added a runner that echos the curve of the large bar, which helps. Portion size looked nice and generous from examples of things we saw being brought to tables, such as the salad and focaccia. Best appetizers were fried cauliflower and the asparagus dish w/ the eggs (which would be even better if warm). The one fish entree is the sablefish (ours was underseasoned) that's brought out on thin piece of cedar with edges still slightly charred. It comes with nothing else on the plate so plan accordingly. Just inside the door they have a little snack/pantry curated market of sorts, where you can linger while waiting for seating and can buy things like a cute little bottle of honey for $20 or a colorful crocheted wall hanging basket for $70. Lots of good natural light because of the walls of floor to ceiling windows. Option of ample seating indoors and outdoors because it's a corner location. Cautionary note: We saw and heard a lunatic in hoodie who, at 6pm on a Friday night, walked up to one of the unoccupied outdoor tables and flipped it over, causing the plates and glasses to fly in the air and shattered, landing in shards next to the elderly couple at the next table who jumped up, her understandably in shock and tears. Staff did nice job moving them inside to a twotop, cleaning up the mess, and removing all the seating on that side of the building for the night.

It's been around 7 or 8 years since my last visit but I remember the fried chicken sandwiches coming with two thick, juicy, fried boneless thighs. I found it difficult to eat more than half a sandwich given the size and excess meat. Usually I would end up pulling one thigh out and saving it for later! I decided to visit again on a recent weekend trip to Portland, arriving for an early dinner at around 4:30 PM. It was surprisingly busy, with at least a quarter of the seats taken in the shared seating pool even though it was so early in the day. Luckily there wasn't a line to order and the food came out within 15 minutes. Fried Chicken Sandwich ($13) - Just as how I remembered, this sandwich is still huge with two breaded and fried thighs on a bed of lightly dressed, crunchy cole slaw. It's really tall and doesn't compress well due to the abundant crunchy elements throughout. There's the bun that's heavily toasted until extremely, almost aggressively, crisp and almost dark golden brown, absolutely doused in butter a la Texas toast. There are house pickles on the bottom bun, very quickly pickled such that it develops no acidity, but changes to that crunchy yet soggy pickle texture. The two chicken thighs are expertly breaded until full of crags and valleys, seasoned well, and fried until crisp. The crispy quality is of a lighter variety rather than a hard crunch, very delicate as compared to a typical flour based fried chicken dredge. The chicken is different from what I remembered. Instead of being juicy full thighs, almost an inch thick at the meatiest, these patties are thin, sad, like a single thigh butterflied and cut into fourths width-wise. The breading is far thicker than the chicken itself - in fact the chicken almost is an afterthought here, completely getting lost in all the breading and everything else in the sandwich. Seriously, look at some of the photos from other Yelpers taken in 2016 and 2017 and compare to my cross section photo. It's a huge difference. I bet it's a cost cutting measure and it certainly isn't an appreciated change. Maybe it's just a sign of the times - while the 2010s air waves thumped with 'All About That Bass," the thick thighs have now unfortunately been 2020s Ozempic zapped. The major downside of the sandwich is surprisingly the bun. It's by far the most dominant component of the sandwich. It's the crunchiest element and the butter flavor completely overwhelms the taste buds. This is why fried chicken sandwiches are usually served on soft and pillowy buns, or at least buns that are only lightly toasted, so the bread can focus on and cradle the crunch element rather than supersede it. This is the first time that I can recall a sandwich where the bun is the dominant entity. (3/5) Dandan Fries ($10) - These fries are deceptively filling. They're really snackable and give a distinct moreish quality. It's like a snack where I absentmindedly keep reaching in the bag for more and suddenly it's completely empty. The fries combine a somewhat lightly fried potato, a delicate crisp on the outside and an extremely fluffy almost fall-apart tender inside, with a nutty, spicy, and mouth tingly mala sauce. The sauce is thick, rich, filled with fatty goodness. It's actually a really good glue, adhering the crushed peanuts on the fries so well, nothing falls off while lifting the fries out of the bowl. I especially love the mini cornichons mixed into the fries. They add just a bit of sweetness and acidity that balances so well with the fatty dandan inspired sauce. Without them, I think the dish would feel far too rich. With them, the fries go down the gullet at a quick rate. (5/5) I can't help but feel a little disappointed at Basilisk. It's another one of those places that seems to have decided to sacrifice quality in order to keep prices relatively low. While I enjoyed the Dandan Fries, I'm not sure that's enough of a draw to get me to revisit. Bathrooms - Four unisex rooms shared with the other establishments in the building. We rented the entire main floor and loved having the patio as a side space for people to hang out in. The food was excellent and the kitchen was able to accommodate our wide range of dietary needs without compromising on portions or flavor.

We were seated right away, wherever we wanted. I picked a shady indoor spot booth. I'm not sure, if it's the right booth, I then realized, they have the swings, by the window facing Burnside. I wanted to move, but hubby won't! No matter how much I begged, he ain't movin'. Then, I said: 'the music here is too loud.' His answer? 'There's always something!' So I stayed. I checked out the Patio. It might work, for the group. At least, there's one of us, who love alcohol. That may give them a reason to come. (She's driving the rest of the group). Since we are heading to an event, not far from here, we didn't have much time to take leftovers home, we didn't have a cooler, it's almost 80 degrees out, so we decided to eat something we could share. We picked the BBQ COHO Salmon Sandwich. Seared Coho salmon glazed with Bourbon BBQ sauce topped with baby Aragula and pickled red onions on a Portland French toasted potato bun. There's a $2 discount recess during happy hour (3-5pm). We were there at that time. (Is that the reason WHY the music were soo loud?) It was served with hand-cut fries. Both were just the perfect taste (delicious), and size for both of us. But, for some reason, I was still tempted to have something else. We looked at the desert menu, and decided on the Peach Crumble. Food taste so much better, when shared! Enough said. (We waited so long for this one, that we almost didn't made it to our event! We were enjoying our time here, that by the time we got to our car, we were rushing, and made it two minutes later we would have been late!) Negative: Music is too loud! Restroom could be improved. Do we need to see those words written on the board? I agree about ICE, but, that is not something we want to see.
