I don't think I've ever had an amazing chicken parm sandwich nor a bad one. That is, they seem to be in small range of yummy, all are good. I prefer the chicken breaded (that might not be authentic, I don't know), but here I couldn't tell if it was. Also, it was kinda tough. That said, the bread was crisp, the cheese gooey, the sauce tangy. Real good, I'd order it again. Friendly service, but I don't care for the ordering kiosk. I didn't see any hand sanitizer. I wanted to try the arancini, but they only sell them in a large order. It was just me so a sandwich and all that arancini would have been too much, and the remainder taken home wouldn't reheat well. Short and sweet: Amazing! The food was perfectly seasoned, the service was efficient and friendly, the portion was excellent, and the entire meal was a great value. I had the Pasta Eggplant Parm and the eggplant was cooked perfectly. Seriously. I've tried eggplant many times and it never turned out right. Not only was it flavorful, but crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. This was a food truck and there was plenty of seating if you wanted to stay onsite, though we took ours to go. The location was very easy to get to in North Portland. The location was quiet and clean and had plenty of other food options if Italian isn't on the menu. But it really needs to be a first choice! Wow! I stopped by the cart for lunch and everything I had was perfection. I devoured the Meatballs and Rigatoni. The red sauce was the one I've been looking for! Decided we'd try an Italian Food truck. This food truck can be found in North Portland tucked away on a side street with about 10 other food trucks. We went based on the five star yelp ratings though they don't have many reviews. The meatball rigatoni was a spectacular culinary experience. The rigatoni was homemade perfectly, al dente and delicious. The sauce was full of Italian flavors and was a taste explosion in your mouth. Not sure the combination of me in the meatball, but it was juicy and spicy and tender. The Arancini were amazing. I've never tried arginine before, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The outside had a nice fry, which was crisp and the inside was full of rice, prosciutto and mushroom and moist. It was a fun eating experience. This is a place not far from my office, I will definitely be coming back and trying their food again and again. read more

This cart just moved into our neighborhood from a few miles down the road. I hope they're successful because I will be returning. Ordered a meatball sub, Arincini special, polenta fries and a slice of pepperoni pizza. Just blown away on all fronts. Best meatball sub I've had in years. Tender meatballs, great quality bread, just saucy enough and topped with plenty of melted provolone. Deep dish Pizza is nicely crispy with perfect amount of chew. Arancini balls are fantastically cheesy with a garlic cream sauce that's to die for. Wish I'd taken pictures but we ate it too fast. Really impressive food coming out of this food cart. I am already quite plump, if I lived closer to this awesome food cart, I would double in size within a month. You have to appreciate home cooked food to love the food, it's not fancy, it's hearty. The chicken parm ($15) is comfort food at its finest. Did I mention it's Gluten free? I don't usually order garlic bread ($5) because I'm generally disappointed in what it tastes like, but go ahead and order theirs, you'll be glad you did, it's also GF. There aren't a whole lot of good "East Coast" Italian food eateries around PDX. Don't get me wrong, all Italian food is good here in Portland, but I grew up with New Jersey and New York City Italian food and that's just different. A little while ago, I wrote a review for another food cart in town called Spaghetti-aboutit and they do East Coast Italian and a really good chicken parm sandwich. Well, I now have a second place that I enjoyed a really good chicken parm sandwich. Mangiamo is up at the St. Johns beer porch along with several other food carts. There focus seems to be their house made arancini and the sauces that you can get with them. In short, arancini are fried rice balls with cheese. They rotate flavors and had five different options when I was there. I ordered two, one a veg option with mozzarella and tomato and one with prosciutto. They offer three sauces, a tomato sauce, a spicy Calabrian and a lemon aioli?. Not 100% on the last one. I also got the chicken parm sandwich. The arancini were great but they fell apart way too quick. The taste was great and the spicy Calbrian sauce was flavorful, but not at all spicy. The chicken parm was terrific. The sauce was a little sweet, which was nice, lots of cheese and the chicken was GF breaded and crispy. The bread was the only issue, like the arancini, the bread fell apart a little too fast and just didn't hold up. Don't get me wrong, the bread was good, just not sturdy. Overall, I'd still go back and try more. They have pasta locally made and a few options for dessert as well including a cannoli with a strawberry filling. Ooooh. Well, I've found a new favorite in St John. Mangiamo! is a pretty damn tasty East-coast Italian food cart and I'm a big ol' fan. My chicken parm and order of arancini were both very good, and the service was friendly and welcoming. I'll definitely plan on returning. the chicken parm sandwich was a delight. The bread was fresh and sturdy, considering all that it had to hold. The chicken was breaded and fried, so moist and tender. Surprisingly light. Mozzarella had a really robust flavor and plenty of melted mozzarella. I wolfed it down. So very good. I probably didn't need the arancini and could stand to learn a thing or two about portion control. I honestly don't remember much about them, other than that there were some good options for both the arancini themselves and the dipping sauces. Overshadowed by that outstanding chicken parm sub, but that's probably the order of rememberance they want... Service was a solid 5 stars. I got their right when they opened and ordered at the window I guess they needed a little extra time to get the grill up and running and said to give them 15 minutes. It was cold and I was poorly dressed for the weather so I said i'd come back from my car. He then took my number so that he could just text me when it was ready. A really thoughtful move that he didn't have to do, and it was noticed. I look forward to returning the next time I'm up in St John. read more

As an east coast transplant (33 years ago} I've been missing eggplant Parm sandwices (heroes) for decades. When I return to NY to visit, I order them just about every day of those trips home. Tonight in N. PDX I was so happy to see the menu included Eggplant Parm here! I live deep in SE PDX, so I figured even if I loved it, the sandwich would be cold when I got home, so, before I started driving, I tried a couple bites in the car. Here's the thing... It was good, but the proportions are just off. The ingredients are good! Eggplant was cooked well, though I hate the skin and it was way too thick cut, cheese is just about perfect, but I prefer it shredded-even fresh mozz, which I think this is-and it's a weird shaped roll, like one of those Mexican Torta rolls and, even though overall I liked it, my favorite part of this meal was the aroncini balls. The red sauce served with the rice balls is flavorful and delicious. The cheese really is delicious and there's never too much cheese for me. Those balls are good enough for me to drive 30 minutes from the other side of town get them again. If that eggplant was cut thinner and skinned, I'd seriously be a weekly customer. I'll probably try this place again because it was overall very good and I'm probably expecting too much for gentrified NPDX. I'll update my review after I've tried it again. This place does not disappoint. Everything I've had so far has been spot on authentic Italian yet with their own twist. So good. I recommend the arancini balls and cannoli but everything on the menu is good. You can't go wrong. They're located in a food-truck-pod and are one of the only restaurants to choose from that are usually always open and FRIENDLY, so bonus points for that. read more

This place is an awesome Italian eatery. Super friendly folks and their food is on point. They offer vegetarian and gluten free options as well. Had the Eggplant parm which was crispy and chalk full of cheese, the bread was crispy and held up pretty good considering how fast I inhaled it. The eggplant was cooked up just right and filled my gut nicely. The mozzarella arancini was really good, but I think I still prefer the pesto. They offered a good list of different flavors. Tiramisu, I can't recommend this dish more. The best I've be able to find since we moved to the PNW. read more

I walked up to order and saw loads of basil in front of me getting ready to be turned into something delicious. I ordered a small order of arancini balls. I was delighted that I could choose different ones on the same order. They had 4 varieties and all sounded amazing. I ordered the original mozz and the pepperoni and mozz. Then I could choose from 4 different sauces and I chose the original marinara. These were so good along with the sauce that I can't wait to go back and try all of them but next time I'm ordering the large for sure! Additionally I ordered the Italian chopped salad and added grilled chicken and soppressata dry cured ham. It was an explosion of flavors! The grilled chicken was so good along with the ham. I can't wait to go back and try more. Next I'm trying either the eggplant parm sub of the vegan pesto pasta, especially after witnessing the mound-o-basil.
