    Chicken parm sandwich
    Jay D.

Great place! My husband and I ordered two chickpeas parm sandwiches and they were delicious and filling. It eats like a sloppy joes meets a meatball sub meets a falafel! Love it and super generous portion and good prices. Recommend!

    Beet burger
    Ariel W.

I am not vegan but really enjoy a good veggie burger so I was pretty excited to try the beet burger. However, the beet/lentil/walnut patty itself fell apart instantly upon the first bite and probably needs an additional binder to make it cohesive. The burger itself was kinda otherwise ok. There were a ton of greens on it and some pickles and I felt like it was just missing something to balance out the bitterness of the greens and chimichurri. Having said that, I did not opt for the cashew cheese so maybe that was the missing ingredient that really ties it all together. I would definitely give this place a second try though and next time I'm in the area I will try some of the other menu options.

The stunning alchemy of yummy nachos!

Wow! After working nearby for almost 9 months, I discovered this plant based cart today. It was a feast of vegan nachos and a farm fresh salad. The service was friendly and helpful--they take cards, which is great because the atm wasn't working. We sat in the March sun enjoying flavorful, fresh food. I'll come back again for another salad and perhaps another split main dish. They are open seven days a week with expanding hours for the spring and summer. I'm eager to share this gem with my vegan daughter. However there are many carts for animal protein loving companions as well, so don't let that hold you back from trying Flourish with your favorite carnivores in tow. Truly excited about the offerings here!

    Onion rings and nachos
    Sarah S.

My partner and I went to the Groundbreaker location, which is a cool spot. The service was quick and the food was really good quality. The onion rings were awesome!!! Five stars for the onion rings and their delicious dipping sauce. Here's why I'm going with 3 stars: We got the nachos and the chip part is made out of yucca. They were so hard we could barely bite through them. I actually sliced my gums while eating them. My partner said "do you think they know these are close to inedible?" The flavor was amazing though, so it was disappointing. The sauce was a delicious smoky flavor and the pickled jalapeño was a great addition. But I can't get past the yucca chips...why not use corn chips?

    Pumpkin Churros PUG APPROVED!

Super Creative menu options and always full of flavor! Been over 12 times and never disappointed. Unbeetable burger is my fav and the fresh squeezed lemonade is delish! Those pumpkin churros are the SHIZZZ!

We discovered Flourish at Ground Breaker Brewing. What an amazing find. The food is hearty and delicious!

Mac N (Cashew) Cheese with Chickpea Fritters
    Taj T.

The chef informed us we'd have to wait 30 minutes for some dishes because she was cooking a fresh batch of the "Cashew Cheese". I've got mad respect for this food cart because they're all about serving quality food. Everything comes out fresh! However, the taste simply doesn't match the commitment to excellence. The "Mac N Cheese" was inspired with its topping of fried shallots and grillled broccoli. However, it was more Mac N "Sauce" than cheese because the cashew cheese wasn't gooey enough. Our big issue was that it just wasn't flavorful at all. The cashew cheese could definitely use any kind of spice. We topped our pasta with their "Chickpea FrItters". I liked the taste but the fritters were way too dry and difficult to eat without taking a big swig of water.

    Onion rings
    Jennifer G.

Definitely was between a 3 and 4 star rating but settled on 4 because: the customer service was super friendly and quick! Food came out fresh and piping hot. Also, a completely gluten free kitchen is an amazing treat for my celiac partner. We generally have to pore over menus to see what she can eat at a restaurant. We got the Spuds 2.0 (which their IG posts claim are like animal style fries from In n Out) and the onion rings. My partner hasn't had onion rings since her diagnosis so we were super excited about that. The spuds were cut in perfect small wedges, super crispy with a generous about of sauce and green onions on top. It was more than enough to split. The onions rings were thickly cut, and the batter was thick and to our surprise, didn't crumble off when you took a bite. Overall happy to try this food. However, a big drawback was the salt and oil factor. I get it, we ordered junk food. But the spuds were SO salty. We had to start scraping some sauce off to cut down on the salt factor. And the onions ring batter retained an insane about of oil. (Again, I get it, we ordered fried onion rings, what did we expect) But the amount of oil seemed atypical, especially compared to onion rings I have had from other places. However, like I said, the good overall outweighed the bad. I would like to return to try their "Not Your Mama's Fish Sandwich."

Bastion definitely is part of what makes Portland's gluten free scene great! The location is in a beautiful small neighborhood in the city. Bastion sits among some small businesses and has the feel of a cozy business in a house. My absolute favorite thing about Bastion was their fried chicken. It was crispy and delicious. Often times gluten free items lack a bit of substance when it comes to how it feels, but the nice meaty chicken pieces really helped offset that in the case of the chicken sandwich. It was fulfilling to eat and would do a great job filling up anyone who is hungry. My wife went with the waffles and they were great. They were presented beautifully with a gorgeous flower garnish. If you want a nice IG picture, well, here you go! To wash it all down I tried their mango smoothie. And this thing was smooooooof. This was one of THE BEST smoothies I've had in a while and I would drive back up from Sacramento just to get this again. We loved our experience at Bastion and am sad to leave!

It turned out, this was not true. But, we decided to eat here anyway! We ate outside, in a nice weather, no flies! And the sandwich bread, while tasty, were pretty hard to chew. Mine specially, I couldn't even cut the thinly sliced crust with MY knife & fork! That's saying a lot! The sandwich came with a nice serving of green salad. The restroom is clean. Service was good. Water is self-serve and there's hardly any room at the station to set down a small cup, when filling a second cup.

I've tried the mole, the elote, the empanadas, and the carne asada bowl so far. O My Great God it's so good. For sure more expensive than I'm generally comfortable paying for food so it isn't an all the time thing, but I like how easy it is to split a bill and order through their QR codes *and* their chip reader, if you're not a tap guy like me. I am non alcoholic but Grandma really loved theirs, mezcal I believe but I may be incorrect! It is LOUD outside on the patio, because duh, you're right on the busy street. If you live here, you're quite used to that! Quieter inside, the music is loud enough to confidently have a conversation without lowering your voice too much, but not so loud that you can't hear your friends. Waitstaff is pleasant, accommodating, and compassionate! It feels and smells clean inside, and my experience in back of house food let me perceive that the dishes had been freshly cleaned and steamed dry; they just had that feeling on the fingertips. (I wish the cleanliness of dishes wasn't a highlight in Portland but here we are.) Also the water didn't taste like fish OR rocks! What a win!!! If you're not sure what to get I recommend starting with the empanada plate and some elote to share with a group of three, to build your expectations.

The food was so good it made my day; adding tempeh to the mighty bowl with the garlic and tahini sauce is so good. 10/10 recommend. The real reason I came to write this review though is because staff is super sweet and genuine. It was my first time coming here, and I had a lot of questions about the menu to the point where I could feel myself becoming annoying (face palm). The gal taking my order was Jessi, she was so helpful, kind, knowledgeable, accommodating, and authentically friendly. I can't remember what it was that we shared a laugh about, but I walked away happy because of that type of simple interaction that restores your faith in humanity. People who have never worked in the service industry are generally clueless and walk into a restaurants like it's their first day on earth. But even with my string of annoying questions, she never once made me feel like I was being a nuisance. Whoever is in charge here you should give Jessi a raise. I ordered for pickup myself and picked up less than 10minutes After I placed the PU order. That's the whole reason I said they were "exceptionally fast" in my original review. The ambiance was cool and the service was exceptionally fast. Unfortunately both items I ordered were gross. I love chocolate and peanut butter together esp with coffee but their drink was inedible with an awful taste. Maybe they gave me almond butter by mistake. Woof I couldn't even force it down. The quesadilla was incredibly greasy and nothing like a quesadilla. The mouth feel of the walnut chorizo with the soft vegetables was weird / it felt gritty. The flavors fell as well. The only highlight was the salsa but I'm 90% sure it was salsa de welo which you can buy at a store. No one would finish my quesadillas at the table. Major miss for me.
