Burnside bowl substitute with GF chik'n... yum!!! First time here, was looking for a delicious vegan rice bowl and this place came up! Nestled among the different amount of food trucks, this place is a little delight! The food is reasonably priced with great portions... somewhere between $14-$16 a bowl and $4-$6 sides. The cashier was nice and answered all my questions. Will come back again when I'm back in Portland! read more

I've been to Native Bowl only TWICE since I've lived in Portland. Which honestly, I feel makes me a terrible vegan. I have had the Buffalo Bowl and the Alberta Bowl. Both times the bowls are HUGE and packed with fresh, vibrant, CRISPY vegetables. The Buffalo sauce was good and that bowl rocked. BUT the Alberta. OH. YUM. The sauce was OUT OF THIS WORLD delicious. Spicy and creamy and perfect to accent the other flavors. The garlic tofu was seasoned to perfection as well. I would only change that the cubes are huge lol. I would do them half or even a quarter of the size but hell, the bowl was perfect to me Now I'll be honest, I have a weird thing with places I LOVE in that I like to try EVERY item on the menu. BUT I don't like Teriyaki or BBQ. My husband loves both and I've had bites of his and I don't like them. He however loves the sauces. I won't be able to give an opinion on the bowls with those flavors but to tell you my husband says they're 5 stars. I'll definitely be trying more and will update on my other finds! But this is worth every penny and you'll feel great after eating it! read more

Massive amount of bland food for a reasonable price. I had the Hollywood Bowl and my husband had the Burnside Bowl. Everything was fresh and well-prepared; it just lacked flavor for us. We're not salt lovers and we eat a lot of veggies and meat free dishes. I wish I had asked for extra tahini or salsa or something to spice it up. I can't see myself returning for more. Bummer. read more

That hardest thing about coming to Native Bowl is deciding on which bowl to get. They all sounded delicious so I just went with the special the had written on the board. IT was packed full of yummy fiber and protein. Important: make sure you opt for the roasted garlic. They were supper generous with the amount of garlic they gave you, and I felt it made the bowl that much better. It had been awhile since dining at this food truck pod and they have added some great seating areas at either Prost or at Bloodbuzz, which serves, coffee, cocktails and beer. We were able to secure a spot near the firepit at Bloodbuzz, were I also had the Girl & The Sea Cocktail. I would recommend doing the same. read more

This evening we treated ourselves to a Hollywood Bowl and a Burnside bowl. Husband had read some great reviews on Reddit and decided to go out of the way and drive over for some take out. And what an AWESOME choice that was! Portions are ridiculously huge and filled with tons of goodies including fresh veggies. Plus, each bowl was reasonably priced! I think the Hollywood Bowl was a bit tastier than the Burnside bowl. The Hollywood bowl reminded me of a vegan gyro but in a healthier bowl form. For sure worth the trek!! read more

Looking for something delicious, healthy, and affordable?? Look no further than at Native Bowl for their delicious bowls that are vegan as well! For bowls starting at $10 you can get yourself a filling meal filled with veggies, vegan protein, and yummy sauce. I enjoy the Albina ($11) that consists of "Teriyaki marinated chik'n, peanut ginger sauce, cilantro, roasted garlic cloves, spinach, carrots, scallions and toasted sesame seeds on a bed of jasmine rice." The bowl is a huuuge portion and easily shared between two people. The marinated chik'n is cooked well and flavorful. The veggies pair well with rice and is topped with plenty of sauce. I knocked one star just because I probably would like a little less sauce but I'll be sure to let them know next time. Overall the bowl was super tasty and honestly if you told me It was vegan I probably wouldn't have noticed since everything paired well together and was just a good bowl to eat for dinner. Staff was friendly and quick to get our orders. Saw them constantly washing hands and changing gloves as well. read more

Called this place at three this afternoon and asked about ordering. Family who live there are sick, We wanted to treat them. we live out of town and are unable to visit. Our delivery was to take place at 6 pm. We went thru Grub Hub. We advised our family that dinner was coming. At 4:45 Native Bowl called and said they could not fill the order..... "because it was 104 degrees there" What a BOWL of poop!!! First of all... The weather report said 94degrees. What restaurant refuses to honor an order due to Weather?? Maybe a food truck! Do not bother to call this poor excuse of a restaurant!!!! They were VERY RUDE. They did call us and told us they were not going to make the food. I'm not a vegan and I would never had tried Native Bowl if a friend didn't point it out to me. I can honestly say that this place is DELICIOUS!!! My favorite: the Mississippi Bowl. I must have eaten here five thousands times, it's my go-to happy place for food carts. Also, the guys are always super friendly cuties. PS - they use "soy curls" which is a totally unique Oregon product that is the best kept secret ever. read more

My favorite food cart in all of Portland! It's my go-to lunch spot for casual lunches or early dinners, and everyone I've taken here (Portlanders or visitors) loves it! The Mississippi Bowl, with soy curls, slaw mix, green onions, rice, BBQ sauce, and Ranch dressing, is my favorite, but you can't go wrong. I especially love that the unifying theme of the bowls is vegetarian (easily made vegan), not ethnic profile. So there are bowls with an Asian flavor profile, a Greek-inspired bowl, Mediterranean, etc. Something for everyone! And the co-owner Noah is so incredibly nice! read more

Native Bowl is amazing! The food is delicious and the staff are all so friendly and fast. I'll go months without coming in and they still somehow remember my name and specific order. The food is unreal. I'm personally addicted to the "Albina" [Teriyaki marinated chik'n, peanut ginger sauce, cilantro, roasted garlic cloves, spinach, carrots, scallions and toasted sesame seeds on a bed of jasmine rice.] It's the perfect blend of eating healthy and treating yo self. I 've heard and seen the pictures of this food cart for several years now. I was visiting Portland last week and had to try it. The food cart is now painted aqua blue instead of black. I like it. Portland is already dark and cloudy all the time. The aqua blue color brightened the food carts environment, IMHO. My favorite turned out to be the Couch Bowl. It is pronounced 'kooch' and not 'couch' (the furniture you sit on) like I thought it should be. I guess it is named after a famous sea captain John H. Couch, a pioneer at Columbia river in Oregon. I like it because it is spicy, a bit sweet, and a bit tangy. The sauce is made of gochujang, a Korean red pepper paste, combined with other secret ingredients. The vegetables tasted fresh and the sesame tofu was savory good. This bowl definitely doesn't taste like something that Captain Couch would eat though. Unless Captain Couch also went to Korea, learned the cuisine, and took the red pepper paste home with him to Columbia river. Hence, kooch was so delicious! I ordered a small Couch Bowl and a small Mississippi Bowl. It's not that I am a pig but this may be once in a lifetime experience being I live thousands miles away from Portland and who knows we all will be vanished in 2012 as the Mayans predicted. :-) Mississippi Bowl was also delicious! The bbq soy curls were nice. If you like bbq and ranch dressing, this bowl is for you. Now, what I think COOL was the cylindrical Chinese-take-out bowls they serve it with. That was a fun bowl to eat from! You definitely have to use chopsticks(provided at the food cart) instead of a plastic fork. Otherwise, it won't be fun at all. My method was to plunge the sticks to the bottom of the take-out bowl and then pulled out the rice, tofu, and sauce while trying not to spill the veggies on top (you won't be able to do this well with a plastic fork). Then, I ate what I dug out to make some more room while I stirred and stirred until the veggies, rice, sauce, sesame seeds, and tofu were all mixed together. I would not recommend eating the bowl like licking ice cream cone from top to the bottom. The wonderful morsels are in the bottom and middle of the bowl so work at it until all combined together, you will be rewarded with yummy morsels. I bought several coconut macaroons to-go since I had no room for dessert. It was yummy also. It's really too bad that I live far away from Native Bowl. This is the kind of eating establishment that I will visit every week. read more

Native Bowl offers quick and delicious vegan food served straight out of a food truck. I got the Alberta Bowl (because, oh my god, garlic tofu sounds amazing!) and was really happy with the flavors and the portion size. The dragon sauce had the right amount of spiciness and the carrots and other veggies complemented the tofu well. Ill be coming back to try the other bowls! read more

I stopped by and got a Burnside Bowl. I loved the many textures and flavors. It had a nice heat and lots of teriyaki soy chicken. The inclusion of roasted garlic cloves was genius! My bowl was super filling and quite a good size. I loved every bite. It was at times s but too saucy for me, so I may ask to get some of the sauces on the side in the future. Great food! Husband came to try another cart sonI wandered and ended up here. I saw people walking away with food that looked yummy! I asked what was recommended by the person working in the food cart and they recommended The Broadway. I love anything with peanut sauce so I accepted! The food came up in about 10 minutes and it is so fresh. Carrots, red cabbage, green onions, sesame seeds, rice, and some spice. Totally vegan and amazingly flavorful. Oh hell yes. I dun just got bowled over by Native Bowl's Mississippi bowl. $7 for the large, 15 minutes for the wait (I was warned), and about 5 minutes of scarfing down a delicious mix of coleslaw, rice, scallions and BBQ soy curls (with 2 kinds of BBQ sauce). It was a delicious mix of the creamy coleslaw and tangy BBQ with some expertly-charred soy curls adding that I-can't-believe-it's-not-chicken texture. Bomb. I'm totally sold, and I can't wait to try more of the bowls. Problem is, it's going to be hard for me to not order the Mississippi Bowl over and over again every time I make it over to this corner of the city. Word. read more

Peppercorn ranch + BBQ Soy Curls = Mississippi Bowl = Delicious = Happy Tummy. That basically sums up my experiences at Native Bowl! I've only had the chance to go a handful of times so far but I've had the Mississippi Bowl numerous times and also tried the Chili Bowl. Both were fantastic! The cart offers a small selection of all vegan bowls and a couple vegan sandwiches as well -- I can't wait to go back and try the rest! The prices are really good for how much food you get at $6/small and $7.50/large bowl. They are located right next to the ATM for the Mississippi Marketplace which is pretty handy in case you don't have any cash on you! You can even take your bowl over to Prost! and get a beer to add to your meal! The hours of the cart make it hard for me to make it there during the work week, at least for now, while the marketplace is newer and bearing its first winter months. Alberta neighborhood (NE Portland) W side of N Mississippi Ave just S of N Skidmore At the Mississippi Marketplace Pod the guy (no pun intended) manning this cart was not only nice, but worked very quickly! He was not only kind, but also informative. The food tastes pretty darn good and you get a good amount. I got the Buffalo bowl, which had a nice spice to it and good buffalo taste. Bowls don't take that long to be made so no long wait time. My bowl cost $10, which I think might be one or two dollars too much. You do get a good amount but I'm torn. Everything is fresh, tasty, and healthy. read more

After yoga, my friends got Southern-fried unhealthiness, and I would have joined them had I not partook in my Southern friend's Paula Deen-style, instantly diabetic viddles the night before. Broadway bowl was recommended to me by the owner--it was really good, especially the scallions and the miso-like, peanut-ginger-sesame sauce with garlic tofu. The only gripe I had for something so healthy, they bitterly charred the tofu--probably for another dimension of flavor. Mind you I am a hypocrite hypochondriac, but not sure if i enjoyed the dose of carcinogens in my body. That said, I'm a bit irrational and you should not listen to me. Enjoy this cart. read more

The ambiance was super cute, with a cozy little tiki-bar vibe inside, and they also have a few outdoor tables. The service was exceptional throughout. This is an easy 5-star review from me.

I know what good collard greens taste like. I know what good mac & cheese tastes like. So when I heard people on TikTok raving about a vegan soul food restaurant in Portland, Oregon, part of me was thinking: "Soul food? In Portland? How good could it really be?" Well... Dirty Lettuce shut me up pretty quickly. I originally found this place while searching TikTok for vegan restaurants in Portland. Dirty Lettuce kept coming up, and people especially hyped up the fried chicken and BBQ ribs, so I had to see for myself. I ordered the fried chicken meal with collard greens and mac & cheese -- two sides I take VERY seriously. The fried chicken was incredible. The seasoning and batter reminded me of some kind of combination between KFC and Popeyes, while the inside stayed moist and tender. At certain points I genuinely forgot I was eating vegan chicken. It tasted and felt like I was eating a Southern fried chicken plate somewhere in Mississippi or Alabama. Then came the collard greens. Man... These greens tasted like somebody's grandma was in the kitchen cooking Thanksgiving dinner. They serve them in a bowl with plenty of pot liquor, so initially I thought they might be a little watery. Nope. That broth was PACKED with flavor. It was almost like a collard-green soup, and I mean that as a compliment. The greens and the broth complemented each other perfectly. And the mac & cheese? A1. Creamy, rich, flavorful, with this subtle smoky taste that I wasn't expecting. I don't know exactly what they did to it, but whatever they did -- KEEP DOING IT. I also tried the BBQ ribs. They were good, although they were probably my least favorite item compared with everything else. But that's almost unfair because the chicken, greens and mac & cheese set the bar ridiculously high. I also went into the ribs with huge expectations after hearing people hype them up on TikTok, and I'm not really a ribs guy to begin with. So take my opinion there with a grain of salt. They were still good. My one area for improvement would be customer service. The woman who took my order wasn't rude or anything, but I personally would have appreciated a warmer greeting and more inviting energy. I'm very big on customer service, and I think the person at the front counter sets the tone for the entire experience. Maybe she was just having an off day -- we all have them -- but that was really the only part of my visit that didn't match the quality and energy of the food. The restaurant itself is small, clean and has some really cool artwork on the walls. It has a nice atmosphere without trying to be anything overly fancy. But the FOOD is the story here. At one point during my meal, I remembered that Black people make up a relatively small percentage of Oregon's population, and I became convinced somebody from that percentage had to be back there in that kitchen cooking. Because there was no way these greens were tasting this close to something my grandma would have made on Thanksgiving. I came in skeptical. I left thoroughly impressed. Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or eat meat every day of your life, I'd recommend trying Dirty Lettuce. And if you're from the South and you're skeptical about getting legitimate soul food in Portland like I was? Go ahead and try it. This place is the BOMB. I'm not a vegan, but I have friends and roomates who are, and lately I've noticed a significant decrease in my skin flare ups when I'm on an eating vegan streak with them. It's really made me feel more adventurous about trying places on my own that I wouldn't have before, and Native Bowl is one of them. I ordered the ALBINA bowl. There's a small menu, but I still had a hard time choosing because everything sounded so good. My bowl's flavor profile was so extensive; it had Teriyaki marinated chik'n, peanut ginger sauce, cilantro, roasted garlic cloves, spinach, carrots, scallions and toasted sesame seeds on a bed of jasmine rice. You can taste all the different ingredients; one doesn't overwhelm the other, and it was a great pairing of flavors. Sooo good, and you get a very large helping. Prices are really affordable too. Will absolutely be back; I can't wait to try the Broadway bowl. I like that they warn you about the spice level of each dish; autoimmune disease makes spicy food a once-in-awhile only option for me, even though I love good, spicy food. read more

The Native Bowl was on our list of places to try, so we went for it since we were in the neighborhood. Oh my gosh, the Mississippi bowl was so good! Once again, the food did not disappoint. I had the chicken and waffles which are oyster mushrooms fried to perfection and seasoned oh so well! And I also got an everything bagel breakfast sandwich which I almost bit my hand eating . I truly wish I'd gotten two of these! The service is amazing and it's always on point. Ms. CoKiea has always been there each time I've gone and I appreciate that. You can tell she takes pride in the food she makes and the service she provides. Being a vegan, I appreciate that she serves good well seasoned food. Do yourself a favor and check her out. I'll definitely be back!

Not only is it easy on my tummy, but it keeps me full all day. It is so satiating and such a great price. When I was in LA for a year, I missed whole bowl more than any other restaurant in Portland. I'm so glad they are now open until 9 at this location. I am a whole bowl connoisseur, if they would let me open my own franchise I probably would invest. That is how good it is and how much I believe in them. 10/10 every time! I also love the staff at this location.

No one felt like cooking at home on Saturday night, so we ordered from here. We got an order of…read moredrunken noodles, Pad See Ew and Khao Soi. That came to $48.65. The portions were standard in size, and the food was less sweet than some Thai places, which were both plusses for us. We, overall though, were not so impressed with the seasoning and found the food a little bit bland--not talking about spice level here, just overall flavoring. The vegetables were also overcooked, with soggy broccoli appearing in two of the dishes. Some of that may be because of delivery, although other restaurants manage to get their vegetables right even with that. We probably won't order from here again, as it's completely adequate but not much more. We almost always order one Pad See Ew, and it serves as a reference point between different restaurants.

My wife got the brunch wrap supreme ($16), a wrap with tofu scramble, chorizon, hash browns, greens, and cheese sauce, with a side salad -- the taste I had was very tasty. And my friend got the chorizo burrito ($16), which he loved. Extremely friendly, attentive service, with that classic PDX feel in the decor. Maybe not the best breakfast/brunch spot locally, but they manage to stand out in this high-quality food scene. Very much recommended.
