The burger and fries were good the same way all burgers and fries are good. I eat a lot of veggie burgers and they all taste pretty similar to me, which is probably the fault of my simpleton palate and not meant to be a judgment towards any establishment. The milkshake, however, was absolutely one of a kind. Upon taking the first sip, I turned to my best friend and told her that it tastes like 1 million oreos. It tasted the way oreos and ice cream and milkshakes tasted when I was a kid. It's incredible. I wish I was drinking it now, and I don't even that big of a sweet tooth. I've heard of Face Plant from a couple of my vegetarian friends, so I was looking forward to try it. I went on a Friday afternoon thinking that this place would be packed, I was surprised to find an empty. Is located in a very isolated part of Portland so there's not much to do nearby. I love that their menu is so simple; it includes Burgers, fries, shakes, which you may see at a Shake Shack or In-and-Out. The interior has an old diner vibe and was very clean. I also think their logo is very cute. Service was very fast, since I was only customer. I got the double fancy, fries, and the strawberry shake (which was recommended to me). The food is actually pretty good. The burger leans towards the salty side. The vegetables on it were not able to cut the salt or fat for me so I had to drink water after every few bites. However I really like the texture and the flavor of the patty. The fries were my favorite part. They're crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, though still again on the saltier side. Milkshake was very sweet, which I guess is expected. It has that classic artificial strawberry flavor, which I like every once in a while. The portions were more than enough for one person. Every time my partner and I come to Portland, we venture to Face Plant multiple times and every time it's just as tasty as the last. Staff and Restaurant - So friendly and for a "fast food" place, they will bring your food out, along with constantly keep the tables clean. The inside of the restaurant is quite clean; tables, booths, floors, and their bathrooms. Didn't feel gross and greasy after leaving here. Food - Tasty! Honestly the best fast food burger I've ever had. I love the Double Red and Yellow. My partner loves the Double Fancy and gets that every time. We also get fries (nice and golden), and a 10 piece chi'n nugget side that is so good. They also give you several sauces, ketchup, fry sauce, and nugget sauce which is my personal favorite. We also get their shakes. I love their cold brew shake and my guy gets their chocolate or strawberry, which are equally delicious. I'm not a big In n Out fan but I'm quite familiar with the place. I'm also not vegan but I really enjoy vegan foods. I really enjoyed this place and thought it accomplished what it sets out to be. I had the fancy burger, fries and an order of the nuggets. The burger was really good, with an excellent set of fresh ingredients. The bun, lettuce, and tomato were all great- the thin burger patty got a little lost in the rest but the vegan cheese was amazing. I love coming to this place, I wouldn't consider myself a vegan but I will say my stomach has been extremely sensitive to many things. Everytime I come here I'm usually getting a fancy, or the nugs and a milk shake. My stomach always feels nice and full and satisfying. Writing this out it probably seems like nothing to everyone but when eating usually can become a unpleasant time having something I can quickly grab and it not upset my stomach is such a relief and rare for it to have a drive thru too. Everytime I come here I enjoy my conversation with the staff, I find myself becoming more recluse as I get older and it's nice to have those human interactions every now and then and I've always enjoyed my conversations with people here. I love the inside, I've only eaten once but it does feel like vintage in and out and as a Bay Area local I love that. I love it more cause it's vegan! Wow--this far exceeded my expectations! I haven't stepped into a McDonald's in over 15 years, but I doubt you'd find the same passion and genuine service you get at Face Plant. Paid Face Plant a visit after hearing many good things from friends. I'll preface by saying I'm not vegan or vegetarian but was down to give the concept a try. It's in a bit of an odd part of town which I was surprised by but it's a lovely little corner they have. We wound up going in to order vs doing a drive through but it looks as though they could accommodate a large amount of volume. The inside atmosphere is simple but clean with nice branding. Feels classic and timeless. Food wise went with the standard combo meal with a strawberry shake and a small side of nuggies. The burger as someone who typically eats meat was definitely the closest vegan equivalent I have had. Even the cheese which I usually avoid was pretty solid. It was hearty and tasty. The fries were also good and the shake was a big time standout. Not sure what vegan equivalent they use but the shake was rich and thiccc. Couldn't have told you it was vegan. Service was solid and they brought the food to our table which was nice. I can imagine that with a large group or a busy time it could get backed up a bit, but we found it alright. Heard good things, so we made our way to Swan Island on Sunday, when we knew the roads would be empty of trucks. First impressions: Pretty good approximation of a real burger -- for sure, it's more bun than burger -- but there's a good texture and flavor, and a decent similarity to meat. Our 'Fancy' burger (lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, special sauce) had a pretty thin patty though, and it was fairly salty, which overpowered the special sauce even. But it was still enjoyable, with nice drippy sauce and a solid bun. The Nuggets though, were a unanimous hit with my peeps, posting up with a nice outer crunch and good inner texture (though way more forgiving than actual chicken, and kinda potato-y), and nicely seasoned. Good dipping sauce too. We went inside just to check it out and we didn't stay ; Interior is interesting but only for the primary color scheme, not for any wow factor. I mean, it's a repurposed old Mickey D's, deconstructed to look like a cold empty warehouse with concrete floors, a lot of white paint and horrible lighting. You heard that right, folks!! I am not sure if they make their patties in-house or what but they are DELICIOUS. Did I mention they are $5???????? You can get one for cheaper with less fixings as well. I'm just stunned. This is what I'm talking about! I'm a California girl so it's reminiscent of In N' Out options and prices. THANK YOU! You can get a combo Fancy burger with fries and a soda for $11. This is what I'm talking about people. At Burgerville, they charge $13 for the stupid hamburger. A vegetarian fast food place always interests me! I was a hard core vegetarian for 15+ years. This place is near an industrial cut that you might never pass. Driving up, it looks like a classic fast food building. They had one person taking orders in the lane, Noel - she was very friendly. Unfortunately, after ordering it took nearly 15 minutes to get to the window, maybe cars before had big orders. The staff at the window were friendly and had our food ready. Hopefully, they will get speedier with time. We ordered the fancy burger combo and a five piece nuggets. The burger looks well put together. It is packed with lettuce/toppings and a little saucy! I regret removing the paper half way, covered in drips. Fries were tasty, but some were not as crispy as others. I liked the nuggets, but my partner did not care for them. They don't like any veggie nugget I have made them though, lol. The sauce for the nuggets tastes of honey mustard, vinegar, and nutritional yeast - not sure if that's what it is - but I wish they had BBQ sauce. Overall, it was very tasty! Great burger! I really enjoyed the food. I ordered The Fancy, which had standard toppings atop the patty and cheese. Flavorful patty and the cheese melted well (a challenge for vegan cheese). I'm neither vegan nor vegetarian but I believe this burger would satisfy many a meat eater both body and mind. I know we all know we should eat less meat so I'm grateful for company is making these tarty options. The nuggets were even better than the burgers. The filling could fool many an omnivore into believing that it was indeed a chicken nugget. The breading was incredible, achieving a crispness more reminiscent of Japanese and Korean double fry techniques. The fries also were very good. I love and also rather dislike some aspects of Face Plant. It's all vegan, which is great for a lot of people especially Portland. A lot of the food here is great, it's affordable and it's simple. They use Impossible(R) patties and nuggets at this time. Things I like: Price point is good for a "fast food" place. Vegetables are fresh. Fancy burger is great. Chicken nuggets are good. Sauces are all great. Shakes are vegan. Their new nuggie burger (chicken nuggets instead of a chicken patty) is great as well. Things I don't like: The patty on the fancy is too thin, I can taste the vegetables and sauce more so than the patty itself. Wish it was a bit more thick. It's still good and something I can eat frequently. They need to not be so stingy with the patty though. The red and yellow burger is not that great. the ketchup and mustard is extremely overpowering to a point where the predominant taste is the sauces. Get the Fancy! Nuggets are crispy and tasty. The sauce that comes with it augments the nuggets really well. They are too salty for me, if they cut back on the salt just a lil bit. The colors inside somehow give me a headache with the white, red and yellow design. Keep in mind, while there are certain things I personally don't like others may disagree. Wow! Phenomenal. We came on a sunny Sunday late afternoon, very much looking forward to trying Portland's newest vegan fast food joint. Customer service off the bat was super friendly and very conversational. The drive thru set-up is a hybrid of a Sonic drive thru & Dutch Bros: there was a young person standing with a tablet in hand awaiting to take people's orders. There was one mustached employee who went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed, including adding a few chicken nugget sauces (unprompted) to dip with the fries. This is a MUST if you come. It was giving a chipotle-mustard vibe; it was very palatable. Food: I got the double fancy combo. Bun was solid, and the patty was surprisingly super flavorful. The sauce was delicious, although a bit runny. The burger stayed intact the entire duration my group was chowing down, +1. If I had to leave a suggestion, I would say more lettuce could be added. On top of the allergen table they provide, I would be interested in seeing an ingredient list and nutrition label on the website and/or on-site. We did notice that they use the GOOD ice for their drinks, +5. We can't wait to try the milkshakes when they come in. The meal overall had minimal grease compared to other higher quality fast food chains. Wrapping: The paper of the to-go bag and burger wrap were good quality. I'm updating my review to 4 stars based on my recent visit. I came at an off peakish hour around 3:30pm on a Saturday, and the place was packed. Even though they were busy, the wait wasn't very long. The restaurant is clean and there's plenty of parking. I had taken the grandkids to a movie and told them I would take them out for a meal afterwards. They didn't want to go for a drive to Portland, so I went by myself and got the meal to go. I got the Fancy burger combo without onions for myself and 2 Red and Yellow burgers for the grandkids. On a desolate strip of Swan Island, among warehouses and office parks, hides a bit of a secret - possibly the finest vegan burger to be had in Portland. (Yeah, them's fighting words and competition is stiff, but Face Plant easily holds its own.) My fellow Yelper Steve M. brought me by after a particularly hot and vigorous urban stroll. I was definitely feeling the need for a pick-me-up, made all the more enticing by feeling virtuous that I was consuming no animal products. We each ordered a Fancy, and got an order of fries and a strawberry milkshake. First impression - is this Portland's vegan version of In-N-Out? The Fancy looked remarkably similar, with the same style wrapper, simple toppings, and secret sauce. Biting in, the burger had an ephemeral spice flavor - cayenne, chili, chipotle maybe, something smoky and reminiscent of the Mediterranean grill. The texture was similar to that of the Impossible burger, a little more chewy than a standard beef patty, but overall the effect was satisfyingly similar to the "real deal". I didn't miss the meat at all. The fries were equally sound, but the milkshake stole the spotlight for me. Perhaps it was that I was already craving a sweet drink, but the strawberry flavor was fresh and summery, and it didn't taste "vegan" whatever that might mean. It tasted like a strawberry milkshake, and it was delicious. We inhaled our meals, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. So friendly and so tasty. I got a double patty burger, fries and chocolate shake and they were all so good I was able to fool my partner into eating his half of everything with no questions asked, a true sign of yummy eats! I wish they had more locations to help spread the word about how tasty vegetarian/vegan food actually can be, and the fast food concept is a smart one too. My only gripe was the burger bun kinda seemed to lose it's shape while I was slowly eating my burger, but it still tasted really good and I loved the freshness of the tomato and lettuce - if you are in doubt keep these on the burger because that crunch helps bring life to the entire burger when it has special sauce. I did not eat inside, but was glad to get to visit here and experience the friendly and helpful team who all made my yummy food and showed me how tasty meatless can be. The burgers came out fast, and reasonably priced for a combo meal into today's fast food market (~$11.50) so you're not being up charged for the food being vegan. The burger was good, the fries were tasty (although a little too salty for my taste) and the chicken nuggets were good as well (also a bit salty). Staff was super friendly and the restaurant itself was immaculately clean, which my wife and I noticed and liked.
