Bringing the flavor! There are so many wonderful dining options in the Alberta district. This place brings flavorful (and sometimes spicy!) elevated Mexican eats. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, so great for any weather. Two of us had trouble deciding, so we got a starter of crunchy corn straws drizzled with deliciousness, a taco plate with one of each of the fillings, a Boing juice and of course a horchata. Omg y'all, the horchata is dessert in a glass. Sweet and cooling like cinnamon toast over ice. Friendly service happy to explain the options. While the menu isn't extensive, it can be almost overwhelming as a vegan to be able to order anything! Filling options included tofu, jackfruit, and soyrizo based options. The salsas were all fresh and flavorful.

Our recent 6-day trip to Portland and Seattle was essentially a non-stop vegan eating extravaganza. Even with stiff competition from a number of other plant-based spots, Chilango PDX was the shining star. It's been about a month and I'm still thinking about their tacos and quesadillas and wishing we had something like that here in San Francisco. Chilango's food was so delicious that, as soon as we took our first few bites, my daughter and I looked at each other and knew that we would be fitting in a second visit before driving home (and we did). For our taco fillings, we tried the tinga, chorizo con papas, campana, suadero, and mushrooms. All were good and worthy of ordering again, but the rich and caramelized suadero offset by tangy salsa was far and away the best, followed closely by the mushroom. If I were pressed to choose a last-place filling, it would be the campana, which is Chilango's play on a Taco Bell-style taco. It was still good, but I'd rather gorge on the suadero and mushroom versions! The quesadilla trio was another winner. The cheese was so soft and melty that it almost became a condiment, and I am a condiment queen so I loved that. If you are a non-vegan who says that plant-based cheese can't be good, Chilango will make you happily eat your words. Something I will skip next time, though, are the esquites. When considering how flavorful and inventive everything else was, these came up a bit short. And I could be wrong, but I think the corn might have been canned or frozen, which - again - seemed out of place against the high quality and freshness of our other selections. But that's a petty quibble on my part. Chilango's tacos and quesadillas were the absolute highlight of our PNW food tour, which is saying a lot because we ate a ton of great food!

Oh damn. These are GOOD. The tinga taco was perfection, I can't even tell it's not meat. The suadero was very lime forward and greasy so I didn't love it, but the flavor was good if you like citrus. I preferred the tinga by far. Textures of both were great. They support Palestine. They love cats. I'm not sure what else I can love more about this place. I brought home a plate with rice and beans and two flavors (tinga and chorizo) for my bf to enjoy and unfortunately I was only given chorizo and no tinga, did not realize this until I got home. I'm so sad because I realized they are closed today (Tuesday) and we leave tomorrow, so my boyfriend won't get to experience the tinga. Sad times. I guess we will have to come back so he can try it next time.

Top notch tacos! I've had hundreds (thousands??) of tacos in my life, and there's one in particular from Chilango that I crave relentlessly. It's the suadero with jackfruit confit and caramelized onions. While every taco I have had here has been delicious, that one is just chefs kiss.

Since I didn't get any for Christmas or New Year, I drove over for the first time today around 4 pm after seeing their Instagram post with tamales take over Sunday's menu and a brand new item called "inside-out tamales." According to the post, January 7, 2024, was the tamales' debut for dine-in Sunday. Unfortunately, I was informed that they sold out of tamales and moles. The staff at the register was helpful after I shared it was my first visit. You order at the counter, they give you a number, then you find your own table to wait for the food. I settled with three hard shell tacos (Tinga, Garlicky Mushrooms, and Chicharron) and a 20 oz horchata for $21.50. Food came out quick! My favorite was the Tinga, which contained sauteed jackfruit and onions simmered in a savory chipotle sauce and garnished with homemade sunflower crema and green salsa. This filling was well-balanced in texture, taste, and spices. It was satisfying in flavor and texture and fulfilling for me! I would order the Tinga again. I was excited about the Garlicky Mushrooms but was disappointed. It was too salty and lack of any flavor for me. The Chicharron en Salsa Verde was the only red salsa (spicy) out of the three tacos I ordered. I was disappointed because the fried Ota Tofu had no flavor. It was smothered in a Tomatillo and Green Chile Sauce, finished with homemade sunflower crema and red spicy salsa. There was a disproportion in the ratio between the fried Ota Tofu and the sauce. I only had a few bites and did not finish the Garlicky Mushrooms and the Chicharron. The horchata was not worth mentioning. I would come back only to check out their tamales since I have yet to find any luck so far in my search for decent tamales, vegan or not in PDX. There were two tables of two each during my visit. The table for two I picked was not clean; I ended up cleaning it by myself since I did not see anyone at the counter while waiting for my food. Self-serve for silverware, water, and napkins. It's cozy enough for indoor sitting. There is a covered outdoor seating area with no heat lamps. P.Y. Inclusive restroom without toilet seat covers.

I went to Mexico near Mexico City when I was 18 for two weeks and it was like my second home. I was an omnivore and had real Mexican street tacos. As a result of this authentic experience while traveling I ended up with Montezuma's revenge aka loose motions. Fast forward to 2023 I am in the NE of PDX going to Chilango PDX for some vegan tacos. The owner is from Mexico City making authentic vegan street tacos from where he is from. My server was from Brazil and was very friendly. Upon his suggestion I went with the following four tacos: Chicharron Suadero Taco Campana Tinga Two were jack fruit based, one was tofu based and the last was my server's favorite aka impossible and beyond meat combination. I am not too keen on impossible and beyond meat yet still found all the tacos tasty and flavorful albeit a bit heavy. It was about $15 USD for everything. I would suggest having a more healthy option on the menu like a plant based vegetable dish or two. I have been to three all vegan taco places on Turtle Island aka the US including: The one in Austin aka Nom Taco I believe (my favorite) aka a food truck Chilango PDX in Portland a second favorite One in Sacramento which had a nice potato side dish yet tacos could have been better Four stars.

Great food and service!! Love the toppings and the ability to try 3 of them on the taco plate!!! Easily the best vegan Mexican place I've been to.

Service was friendly and quick. Cashier happily explained the menu options and how to choose fillings for the entrees. The space has a open, somewhat industrial feel. The food was so well seasoned. Every dish exploded with flavor. The tacos were smallish so buying multiple would be smart if you have a big appetite. The Jamaica beverage was a bit too sweet to be enjoyable. Would definitely recommend and return to this restaurant.

    Derrick N.

The tacos were authentic street tacos. I had the suadero, tinga, and campano, and the suadero was my favorite. I originally ordered the chicharron as well but they ran out. When I picked up my food, they were very apologetic and explained they replaced that taco with a different one and also comped me with a free horchata on top of the one I ordered. Their customer service was impeccable and for that reason alone I'll keep coming back. Thanks Chilango!

This was one of the best vegan spots in OR so far! And the fact that it is authentic Mexican cuisine creatively and deliciously made vegan with so much flavor is crazy!! And the service and hospitality is out of this world! Thank you for making us feel so welcomed! Every bite of everything was so amazing! We had the street corn, the trio of salsas, a chorizo tostado, a chicharron quesadilla, and the enchilada verdes with suadero style. Again so flavorful, so delicious! We also had cafe de olla, Jamaica, and the Horchata! Thank you for bringing compassionately curated Mexican food to Portland in such a culturally inspired space!

As someone who loves meat, I am very critical of vegan food bc yes I try to eat less meat sometimes but it's hard bc it also has to taste good yanno, I cant live a life with no flavor. This place hits the mark - they have either the best or 2nd best vegan tacos I've tried in pdx so far. Very creative options compared the the veggie option at most taco trucks which is just sautéed veggies. I've tried about 5 or 6 of the tacos and enjoyed them all. My favorites are the Tinga Taco, Rajas con crema & Taco Campana which is their take on a classic Taco Bell taco. If I had to choose a least favorite it would probably be their mole verde, it was just a bit mushy in texture. It's too bad vegan tacos are almost always more expensive than meat tacos or I would definitely eat them more.

Wasn't sure what to expect when trying this place but was very happy with what I ate. The chorizo style taco was my favorite and the one with the impossible meat did not disappoint at all. Trying this place has opened up my mind even more than vegan substitutes can taste just as good as the regular. Margarita was very good as well. Made fresh and didn't seem to just use a bland mix. A must try for everyone!

Taco Fillings: Garlicky Mushrooms, Tinga, Chicharrón en Salsa Verde, Rajas con Crema, Mole Negro
    Ken M.

This eatery has a simple menu and down-to-earth vibe. I selected five different tacos for the price of $17. In addition to the filling, each had Spanish rice added. So, I was plenty full by the time I finished. My favorites were Chicharrón en Salsa Verde and Mole Negro. Service was friendly and prompt.

The space is right on 26, so fairly noisy. There were a few tables an available. The food was ready on time and we went home. I cut the carnitas burrito in half for my daughter and found 2 large bones. My other daughter, who ordered the carnitas quesadilla, found a bone as well. The carnitas itself had good flavor but an abundance of grease was an issue. The asada was pretty good and balanced with the beans and rice. The Langua had some spice to it and was flavorful and tender. The tomatillo and spicy sauce were great. The burritos were mislabeled on there boxes (asada was carnitas and vise versa). Pretty disappointed and hope this occurrence is not the norm.
