Beef bulgogi

This place was really nice. Not in an over-the-top way. It is warm, friendly, and comfortable. And the food could be described the same way. It was flavorful, straightforward, and seemed healthier than some Korean food. A nice little neighborhood spot worth visiting

Gochu-Garu salmon - IG @bougiefoodieboi

Located in St. Johns area, it is quite far away from Portland during rush hour: despite it being 10 miles away, it would be a 30-60 min drive. We tried the ganh-jang steak ($24) and gochu-garu salmon ($22). Total was $46 which is okay for a full meal set up. Each dish comes with some Banchan (kimchi and bean sprouts) and miso soup, which is interesting as there's a mix of different inspiration of cuisines - Korean, Japanese, etc. The ganh-jang steak was the dish I was looking forward to the most but it felt like they skimped on portions - I got like 30% less than what I see in other photos, and the steak was juicy but a bit tough, so I took off a star for that. The mint butter was not too apparent, and I was hoping to savor that flavor note more. The gochu-garu salmon was amazing though. The salmon was so tender and flavorful and I think I would recommend this over the beef despite this place being famous for their steak. The food is good but not mindblowing to make the drive again.

Oxtail soup was piping hot and the bone broth was succulent. The dwen jang pork was fantastic and the veggies were nice and charred. The rice is perfect.

the space feels classier than most fast casual spots. the man at the counter was also very nice not sure if the service is still fast at busier times (i came right before 5pm), but my food was out very quickly $18 for a meal isn't cheap, but still reasonable nowadays and my dish was absolutely worth the price. big portions and both the bibimbap and side soup felt very comforting, especially for a fall day

Very minimal contact establishment but very delicious and well plated food. K-pop playing overhead and very clean and quiet dining room.

Delicious Korean food. Not a ton of selection but too many choices complicate things-right?! I did my due diligence and read reviews before I went and took the advice of a few people who recommended the steak. I'm glad I did! The steak was perfectly cooked & seasoned. It came with a nice variety of sautéed veggies, rice and a side of marinated bean sprouts and kimchee. We also tried the tea. I'm not that fond of Asian teas as a rule because they lack flavor. But I really liked this tea made from corn. It had an interesting "bouquet", if you will. The flavor is nutty but definitely has an underlying corn flavor. Two friends with me got the vegetarian Bibimbap that features tofu. They said they enjoyed it. My other friend had the gochu-jang chicken, which she loved. We all remarked about the generous portion size. I took some of mine home and had enough for another meal. The ambiance is ok. Clean and not much in the way of decor. The service was polite, if impersonal. The food arrived neither quickly nor too slowly. Give it a try for some tasty Korean classics.

A absolutely amazing Korean spot. Located in St. Johns, it's a bit far from Portland but it's 100% worth the drive. They have simple menu and everything is delicious. The inside of the restaurant is cute, clean, and I love the look of natural wood. I got their edamame, cheese corn, japchae, vegetarian bibimbap, and gahn-jang beef and it was all so delicious. The edamame comes in two portion sizes, which such a nice option to have. The cheese corn is a nice generous portion and has the perfect amount of cheese with the corn. Japchae is delicious, but I just wish there were more veggies or some meat in it. The tofu bibimbap was a HUGE portion and they gave you a special spicy bibimbap sauce that complimented the dish perfectly. And, the gahn-jang beef was cooked to tender perfection and seasoned perfectly. Everything was delicious and I would love to come back. Service is so kind.

We happen to drop by this lovely little spot while exploring the St. John's area and we are so fortunate that we did. Everything from the decor and ambiance to the staff to the food, we couldn't stop raving about. As a quaint Korean shop, you order by using a touch pad. As it was our first time, the staff, who happen to be the family that owns the spot, were more than happy to explain the dishes and tell us their favorites! Although there were only two of us, we order three entrees. The mom of the shop even came out to make sure we had our order correct and didn't want to overcharge us! The food was simply amazing. Truly comfort food at its finest, but never lacking any details to the flavor profile and makes you feel right at home. The steak was cooked very nicely and the mint butter glaze on top was absolutely amazing. The vegetables were cooked nicely and served underneath with the gravy of the steak that brought a good balance to the dish. The tofu bibimbap was a good take on a classic dish. Probably one of the better bibimbap's I've had in my lifetime, had a good sense of savory flavor with a hint of sweet behind it. They provide two sauces, we loved both. The green sauce was more like a creamy pesto sauce and the red sauce was a gochu jang blend that really added to the dish. The ox bone soup was probably my favorite out of the three. This really made me feel at home. While being light and having a pure taste, the ox meat was hearty and good subtle taste. Each meal came with their own banchan. Because we order different entrees, I'm not sure if they gave us different ones to try on purpose or if the banchan are unique to the entree. Either way, we have kimchi, one with cabbage and one with daikon, beansprouts, and miso soup. I loved the kimchi, as it had a good sour taste while not being overly spicy. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here and would definitely come back and highly recommend! If you're ever in the area, stop by. It won't disappoint.

On the corner of St. John's downtown circle, is an unpretentious Korean restaurant with proud food. Minimal decor inside, tables with comfortable spacing from each other. A few window-side seating available nice for downtown street views. The owner lady was so sweet! Kind and welcoming, taking time to introduce us to the restaurant and its organic focus. A simple menu so choosing a few items was easy. Quality ~ you can taste a flavorful difference here. Fresh ingredients and just right spicing & oils. The perfectly cooked Gahn Jang Beef was tender & tasty. Portion is a tad small but satisfying. Genuine thank yous from the owner topped off this wonderful meal and will have us back again. Tap handles on display teasing for beer to come ;)

The steak was pretty good. Just the right portion. Steak was well cooked. Vegetables were crunchy. Ambiance and service were meh though. Felt like I was just there to eat. No experience

It was so delicious that I brought my spouse back for dinner when he arrived later in the weekend. When I went the first night I got the shrimp pad Thai and it was the best pad Thai I've had in a long time. So full of flavor and fresh ingredients. I also got the hazy IPA from the local brewery, Backwoods. When we came back later in the weekend, my spouse got the shrimp pad Thai since I sang its praises. I got the million dollar shrimp tom kha ramen and it was DIVINE! I literally cherished every slurp and bite, it was so incredible and flavorful! Prices were also reasonable for the high quality ingredients, quantity, and presentation. The ambiance was wonderful, offering a clean, welcoming, and modern-green chic aesthetic. Not only did we have an amazing dinning experience, but also an amazing service and ambiance experience! If we are ever in town again, Buranko Cafe & Bar will be our top spot to stop!

Two bibimbaps to go: one was tofu and the other was spicy pork. Spicy pork is not spicy but looks like it is. Good taste, so it's marinated well and the meat isn't tough to chew, like some other places. I loved the spicy pork bibimbap though. All fresh ingredients! They give a lot of vegetables, which is so nice, because other places are very sparing with their ingredients. I'm usually left with so much rice at the end. However, this place did a good job giving the right amount of ingredients. They also gave a small cup of miso soup - thank you! Would get this again! My husband enjoyed his tofu version. If you're someone who wants spice, add some of the red sauce they give you in a cup. I was very happy the spicy pork wasn't spicy, but I liked being able to control any spice with the red sauce.

Location: This bar is on the first floor of the Hyatt House Portland / Downtown. Ambiance: Pretty quiet and chill. There weren't a lot of people there so it was really easy to get a drink. Drink options: I really loved how they circle around different local beer on tap. They also have a few bottled beer too. They have a cast amount of liquor too. Surprisingly, they had a new bottle of Hennessy when we finished the first (during our stay). Usually a lot of bars in hotels don't have it, so that was a major plus. Bartenders: We met three while we were there. All of them super kind, friendly, and informative of the surrounding area. They gave us lots of tips on what to see, eat, and drink. They were really down to earth people. Pricing: I thought it to be fairly reasonable for a hotel, however I might just be jaded from Bay Area pricing (yikes). What I loved about this bar is that we were able to just chat with the bartender. I didn't feel like I had to go back to my room with my drink (which is usually the case). I was able to talk to a few other people sitting at the bar too. Of course all from out of town, but still nice talking to other friendly strangers. They do serve food at this place, but I didn't really get a chance to try it it since there was soooo many other food joints in the area.
