The family and I were driving back to the Bay Area from Seattle and looking for a spot to pick up a quick lunch. Banh Mi Up was a bit off I-5, but the menu looked good and accommodated a wide range of diets. We thought, why not? I'm so glad we stopped!!! The vegan pork belly and braised tofu banh mi sandwiches were SO GOOD. Better than any we've had in the Bay Area (and there are a lot of banh mi places in the Bay)! The texture and flavor of the vegan pork was incredible, and a week later, we're still reminiscing about how good it was. In fact, everything we had was excellent - the grilled chicken and pork belly banh mi, the slaw that accompanied the sandwiches, and the iced coffee. Service was great, too - everyone was super nice and accommodating. If I lived in Portland, I'd eat here all the time. YUM! read more

Hmm. Maybe I didn't order the best dish? Is there a favorite here? I figured the beef pho would be a solid choice. Pho should be a quick serve but this took a while. But yeah naw, what a let down. Flavor was mediocre. Literally zero fat in the broth or in meat. Only like 4-6 thin slices of over boiled meat, maybe two bites of noodles? It was definitely the most disappointing pho I've ever had. Ordering at the counter is a treat here because everyone is so nice!! I'm so serious. I have always had such good times here because of the people. So shout out to the banh mi up team! I order the same two items every time. But today I got the one vegan banh mi option. Tofu. SO GOOD. So juicy and the sandwich is massive and so fresh. They do not skimp out - you are getting a full meal (maybe even leftovers). Now that it's nice out and their patio has really grown in it's such a vibe to sit outside. Shaded but bright. Ordered from Banh Mi Ip for delivery. I ordered the Pork Belly Banh Mi and a noodle dish, and both were delicious. It was my first time having a Banh Mi and I loved the taste of the pork belly along with all of the vegetables. The noodle dish was great until I poured too much fish sauce (the whole container they sent) into it and that is my fault. I loved the food and would order again. Tried this today because I was craving a banh mi. I really enjoyed the sandwich the bread was light and fluffy but had the perfectly crispy crust. The pork belly was tender and juicy and being fried was a nice touch. I really enjoyed the house sauce on the sandwich and kind of wish there was a little more meat. The Coleslaw was tasty too. I got the butterfly tea lemonade and it was like a sparkling lemonade with butterfly pea tea and passion fruit puree, very tasty and refreshing. With no doubt, the first thing that popped out at us was the Pork Belly offerings which isn't something you would typically see for Bahn Mi. So we decided to order the Roasted Pork Belly sandwich and rice bowl. They were both very delicious and went so well with the pickled condiments! We also opted to try the Vegan Vietnamese Iced Coffee. If you like coconut milk, it was really good. We were on a tight schedule so we took it to go. I met up a friend here for lunch as it was a convenient spot for us. It's nice that they have both indoor and outdoor seating. The outside patio is nice. It is counter service, and once you order, you find a place to sit. I ordered the combo vermicelli bowl and also a roasted pork banh mi to share. I think I may have come here on an off day as the chicken and pork for my vermicelli bowl was a bit dry. The roasted pork was a bit dry, and the bread could be toasted a bit longer. I think having extra hot sauce would help, but they were all out and had whatever was left in the table. Again, maybe an off day, I'll have to come back again. read more

I have been in Food and beverage for over 22 years so I leave this review with understanding and knowledge however charging someone that orders extra tofu and getting just a few pieces when it's $4.00 extra isn't good and honest customer service. I also get extra veggies and noodles which makes my dish well over $ 20.00. The consistency needs major improvement I never get all the ingredients mentioned on the description from THEIR menu. This doesn't make me feel like a valued customer! Get better! Do better for paying customers who work hard for their money. read more

Super speedy when it comes to takeout order. The items were separated and packaged well. The food wasn't as fresh as it could have been (banh mi wasn't warm, tofus weren't crispy etc.) but kinda to be expected when it comes to takeout. Their flavors were consistently good across all items. Very fresh ingredients as well. The Chicken Pho came with lemongrass grilled chicken which was pretty novel for us but worked really well. The chicken was juicy, tender, and flavorful. Loved it! Huge, huge portion of noodles. Like seriously so much. The one bowl of pho could have fed 2 people easily. Broth was on the heavy side but still nice. Great addition of the chinese donut on the side. Will be looking out for more of this in the future. The Chicken Banh Mi used the same chicken as that in the pho. I enjoyed the butteriness of the baguette and pork pate that paired perfectly with the pickled veggies and herbs. Not overly sauced either. The coleslaw that came with it was interesting at first, kinda dry, but it grows on you. Really like the fried shallots and cashew. The Tofu Plate was also a hit. Would really like to try this fresh cause we imagine the tempura tofus would have been crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. Still it's a tasty item and I really enjoyed the high quality tofus that they used. Definitely want to be back to dine in. read more

I come here often because it's next to my house and it's decent food. I usually get the Banh Mi but sometimes I get the garlic noodles. This last time I did get the garlic noodles and the serving size was cut in half, the pork was cold, and the dish was missing its usual side of greens. I went in to try to get my side of greens and was told that they took out the side of greens for the garlic noodles. However, that was not reflective of the menu. I ordered the dish because I wanted the greens. I would expect that they would at least try to remedy the issue by offering me a side of greens or an alternative item but I was just met with an I'm sorry and we will be sure to update the menu. All of this and the price of the noodle dish has not changed and in fact I believe has increased in price. If you change a dish, the first thing you should do is change the menu before anything else. Otherwise what's the point of the menu. read more

Ordered the vegan pho and it smells and looks so gross. :( The bok choy was inedible and the rest of the veggies were mush and the carrots had a strange white center that was almost translucent. The veggies topping that come with were mostly fresh but the tofu was extremely meh, somewhere weirdly in between being air fried and untouched. There's a strange smell coming from the broth and there's a strange greasy residue layered on the top. It doesn't smell like chili oil, but I'm assuming that's what it is? I'd rather just have had the broth instead of added oil. They put the hoisin sauce on the side, why not put the oil on the side too? Overall generally just hard to eat bc I can't get past the smell. Will likely toss. Wish I had different broth at home I could use. read more

Loved this spot. Doesn't get much better than pork belly banh mi, chicken wings and vermicelli!! Located in the heart of St. Johns, I am only disappointed that I didn't know about this place sooner. We absolutely loved the outdoor seating area. While we visited on a hot summer day, we were met by nice misters and a shaded seating area. The menu gave you incredible options, I guarantee you can't go wrong! We decided on the Garlic Chicken Wings, Pork Belly Banh Mi, and Lemongrass Vermicelli. Each dish was wonderfully unique packed with bold flavors leaving you wanting more. The accompanying sauces were so good! Hot and sweet all at the same time. When the restaurant closes earlier than expected on a weekend because they sold out then you know it's worth the visit! Indoor space is closed but they have a cute outdoor area where there is music playing, a fire pit, and a couple tables to enjoy your meal or drink while you wait for your order to go. Some parking spots in the front but easy to also find free parking in the neighbourhood. | WHAT WE GOT | + Grilled Lemongrass Chicken Bánh Mì + Grilled Shrimp Garlic Noodles + Crispy Wings with the House Fish Sauce + Roasted Pork Belly Bánh Mì All items were flavorful and delicious! My favorite was the grilled shrimp garlic noodles since I love me some noodles. The Bánh Mìs were hard to beat too since they had wonderful and chewy bread, filling was plenty, and fresh. Honestly all items we had were great so whatever you pick will be good. *They also have an alcohol menu inside when ordering if you wanted to order a drink to enjoy with your meal on their cute outdoor area! I've ordered frequently even through price increases and now them being cashless, which is illegal in the state of Oregon. I'm highly disappointed in my most recent few orders. They put everything in the bowl of pho before bringing it to you if you're eating there. I am not a fan of that because I don't like a lot of the side items and they put so many jalapeños in it. I recently ordered to go pick up and, when I got home I opened the to go box to burnt pork belly. When I tasted it was so salty I had to spit it out. For $23 it was a complete disappointment. I have accepted that I will not be coming back to this restaurant any more. There's better pho places in Portland. read more

As I lay here sprawled on the couch in a comfortable food coma I reflect upon the actions and experience that got me here. Ordering the Combo Rice Bowl was a good decision as it provided my belly plenty of quality food for a good price. I wish there were two shrimp instead of one but that wont stop me from ordering again. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered to go and they brought it out in about 5min. Like I said I'm not to knowledgeable about this food and after a couple minutes of looking totally lost the nicest young Lady, I think her name is Arlo, pointed me in the right direction. My food actually made me make strange noises while I was eating and my better half thought that I was a little insane......but hey it was awesome. Quite SPENDY for a Banh Mi, and very spendy for the area, St Johns. The composition of the sandwich lacked- much of the filling fell out of the sandwich and the bread was not soft (fresh).
