Upon walking in, you immediately get this homey vibe, and the staff welcomes you with a smile. Everyone dining in seemed to be smiling and chatting away with close friends, loved ones, and even what looked like long-lost reunions. It almost felt like you had walked into a little realm of happiness. My friend and I chose to sit at the bar because we liked the convenience of being able to chat with the bartenders. The night we went, Khloe and Alex were behind the bar. They were incredibly friendly, guest-focused, and kept great conversations going while effortlessly making drinks for the rest of the guests. We had just flown in from Hawaii after a long morning of traveling and were in need of a good meal. We were pleasantly surprised to find available seating at such a busy restaurant, especially on Father's Day. Even with the restaurant being busy, they had no problem accommodating us and never made us feel rushed. The gnocchi and burrata were incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. Every bite felt thoughtfully crafted, making the meal feel almost magical--like something straight out of Alice in Wonderland, it always feel this way eating fresh vegetables in Portland!. I had heard great things about this place and was excited to try. We were a group of six. We started off with their; olives, sourdough bread, and beet with cheese. I ordered the TAGLIATELLE ALLA BOLOGNESE Which was very bland and very aldente (The pasta almost seemed uncooked.) I had to ask for red pepper flakes because our server never checked up on us. My friend ordered the salmon scutch she said was very salty. Another friend ask for some Parmesan to go on top of her pasta can you believe they charged her three dollars for a tiny serving of Parmesan! Compare compared to all the wonderful Italian food restaurants we have in on the east side in Portland like Cibo, A Cena, and Luce, this place bombs!!! Our friend's $35 prix fixe was also very good, but again, nothing special about the price. Meaning, if you add the ala carte items they total very close to the "special" price. Definitely a really good Cesar salad, enough for two to share or one hungry person. Anchovies were delicious, not too salty. Lucca is a must-visit for PDX Dining Month (March 1-31)! I ordered the Lucca Classics menu for $35, which includes a salad, pasta, and dessert. The salad was fresh and crisp, though pretty standard. For my entrée, I chose the Spaghetti Pomodoro and it did not disappoint. The spaghetti itself is unique--cooked al dente with a texture that almost reminded me of ramen. The sauce was perfectly seasoned, and I loved the addition of breadcrumbs for a little crunch. But the real star of the night was the dessert: Chocolate Budino. Felt terrible after realizing our mistake, but this is also on our waiter. Pregnant and pregnancy brain is real. Usually after my husband signs the bill, I double check and make sure it's accurate. Unfortunately our waiter didn't even give the opportunity to double check the bill and was hovering waiting for husband to sign the check to immediately take it. I've never experienced this at a restaurant before, especially if we haven't even finished our dessert. No the restaurant wasn't closing either so not sure why he wanted to take the check right away. Essentially we realized that my husband only tipped $18 instead of 18% when we got home. Both our bad. But honestly a piece of advice, pick up the check after we leave. He 100% made us feel uncomfortable as we left too, especially not realizing our mistake until we got home. I made dinner reservations for 2, well in advance, for my partner and i for a Friday night. My partner and I are short, Queer-femme presenting individuals. The restaurant was of course, very busy on a Friday dinner service when we entered on time for our reservation. we patiently waited on a small line until it was our turn to be greeted at the counter to check in and be seated. The main host, an older to middle-aged, bald white man, who had been checking in every party before us, turned his back to us when it was our turn to greet what looked to be regulars. A female waitress saw this, and then greeted us instead and we told her that we had a reservation for two for 630pm. She then went to inquire with the male host about where to seat us for dinner, and this man took one look at us and said "there are no more tables. We are full up for the evening." what a wonderful way to assume people are stupid and poor just by looking at us- to just blanket assume that we did not have a reservation and to coldly turn us away knowing nothing of the sutuation was wild. my partner and I looked at the waitress, who was now visibly uncomfortable at her bosses offensive assumption, and corrected him by saying that we actually do have reservations- to which he seemed annoyed. He continued to question our reservation accuracy, huffed over to the computer, and saw that we indeed did have reservations- but I guess because he had maybe given our table to regulars??? there were no more tables for us. I said "we definitely made reservations for dinner for two at 6:30pm. i can show you on my phone" Once again, he seemed very annoyed at us - specifically at us. I wonder why lol Then, finally, after some delay and shuffling around, they hastily threw us at the bar for our dinner service. I really did not want to enjoy my nice dinner at the bar. Hence the reservation. Someone really needs to collect your dinner host. The attitude/hostility with which we were treated was extremely unacceptable. I do not appreciate assumptions being made about me based on my appearance - just because I'm not an affluent, tall white waspy family from this neighborhood doesn't mean that I don't deserve respect and have money to spend. Got us in last minute for a table for 3, person on the phone was very accommodating. Service was very fast and friendly. We got the bread, olives and prosciutto wrapped pears- all were great. I just want to start off this review by saying I don't really review places unless I am completely blown away by the experience and Lucca did not disappoint. I was there last Saturday (8/9) for a dinner with my bachelorette crew, all 13 of us, and all by chance. We originally had a reservation at a different restaurant that cancelled on us due to a tragedy, so we scrambled to find a place for a large party within hours. What was at first a panic was fixed in moments by a guardian angel that was a host at a sister restaurant that told us to try calling Lucca, and this is where our night really began. So if you are so lucky to be graced by our servers presence, Dylan, who was the man of the hour all night. We came in and had no game plan and he picked up on that right away and said he was happy to guide us through dinner by starting us off with grilled peaches and the freshest burrata. He coursed us out without us even needing to think about anything, the dinner feels like a fever dream as I reminisce on it now. We had two salads, the creamiest risotto, the halibut, juicy steak, multiple pastas, and I know I'm missing something but we were catered for. And every drink, glass of wine, and dish that touched our table was devoured and admired all the way through. We ended with desserts which none of us thought we could possibly have room for, but as the saying goes, life finds away. That man was a giver to us all that night, and I am not joking, we all gushed over Dylan for the rest of the trip. Screaming his name to the skies whenever he popped back into our heads. He was truly the main course, and a gem to that restaurant. He took a photo of us all referencing the last supper photo. It was all clear we had stayed well past them being open but not once felt urgency for us to leave. Just completely cared for and was apart of our experience until the very end. My friend and I had a reservation for 4:30pm to catch the happy hour menu. We were really looking forward to it as we had both been before and really enjoyed the food. We ordered a couple of lovely drinks each and several items including the margarita pizza which was very nice. We also ordered affogatos for dessert as a great way to end the meal/they were delicious. The service was on point, and we had a nice experience. We paid our bill and were chatting while we were preparing to leave and why I am writing this review, is the poor treatment we received at the end. The hostess came over to our table and told us that we needed to leave because there was a couple waiting for the table and they had been waiting a long time. She said we could move over to the bar if we wanted to stay longer. Really? We had two drinks each and paid our bill, why would be go to the bar? It was so abrupt and rude how it was handled and we were literally ushered out. We were there under two hours; we were both so surprised that it wasn't until we were out on the street that we realized what happened. We politely left and didn't say anything. We were never told that we had to leave by a certain time. We left a nice tip on top of employee covered insurance that they tack on. We had a reservation so it was strange. So, not good Lucca to close a customers experience in that way. The entire experience should matter not just up until you pay your bill. We were customers just like the couple waiting. Not something expected from this restaurant. If you go to Lucca be sure you leave as soon as you pay and don't linger because you will be ushered out! read more

The ambiance here is good, we ended up sitting outside. We brought a bottle of wine for a corkage fee and it was definitely worth it. Hands down, the farro salad was great to start with. The heirloom tomatoes melted in your mouth. The pasta bolognese was very underwhelming. We did get a side mixed breads and those were yummy and fresh. Honestly, service was very lacking. My family has eaten at Lucca well over 50 times. Tonight will be the last. The quality of the food and service have taken a significant dive. It took well over an hour before we received our entrees. The appetizers were lacking in flavor and the usual wood fired quality to the vegetables was more akin to a buffet warming platter. Seasoning was off and the vegetables with the pork entree were hotel quality at best, being unseasoned and mushy. The real disappointment was that all of the other 50+ meals were consistently great. I guess that it is only fitting to have my final pizza review of the year be Lucca. Now over the years I've passed by this restaurant many, many, many times and as a third party food delivery person, I have had their food in my car multiple times. I've even chatted, on a few occasions, with the executive chef. So, I've known about the place, I've known how good the food smells and when dropping off food, I've had customers tell me how good their food is. So why did it take me so long to order some food? Maybe it's just that there are so many good pizza places in town. Now Lucca currently serves both pizza, pasta and a few other dishes and sides, so they are a restaurant like Amalfi's and less like Red Sauce or Pizza Doughnais. Now it's also possible that when they had their full menu, there were items that were quite pricy and that would usually limit me. Whatever the reasons were, tonight was a good night to have some food from Lucca. This evening I got a really nice mixed greens salad ($12) with a tangy red wine vinaigrette (heavy on the red wine vinegar, but oh so good) and Gran Padano cheese. Super simple, but super good. Various types of lettuce, some bitter, some not, that vinaigrette and the nuttiness of the Gran Padano made it well balanced. It also meshed very well with the pizza that I ordered. The margherita pizza has always been about simplicity, but that also means one can easily mess it up. Not the case here. Now the wood fired pizzas at Lucca are similar to those of Pizzaria Otto, in that they are a soft crust, Naples style, pizza. Lucca doesn't char the crust as much. Both places have amazing pizza though. This pizza is enough for one person, they aren't very large and at $13, the price is right. Fresh mozzarella selectively scattered around the pizza, crushed tomatoes (so simple), fresh basil and a thin, chewy crust that I could easily eat alone with some sauce if the option was made available. As I said with the salad, balance is the key. The creaminess of the cheese, the freshness of the basil, the sweetness of the tomatoes and the sourness of the slightly charred crust. Harmony. This was a well thought out pie. I will have to try some of the other options here and during these current times, I do my best to support the local businesses because we need to keep places like Lucca around.
