View would have been great if it wasn't so cloudy. You can see the convention center and other parts of the downtown skyline. It was a little confusing for me to find the elevator that led to this place. Luckily the front desk was able to direct me, but it was about a 5 minute wait for the elevator to come down to the lobby level. Calamari - It was light and crispy. One of my BFFs wanted to surprise me with a girls night. Happy hour and a movie. I was super excited because nobody had taken me to the movies, including me, in about 5 years. We were going to see Irving Berlin's White Christmas. Oh my word, I loved it so much! I'd never been before, at least I don't think I have unless it used to be the Holiday Inn's Windows, which was in business years ago and had a rooftop restaurant in NE Lloyd District. They have a generous happy hour menu and all reasonably priced considering how fancy pants it is. Both of us settled on the Kobe beef sliders. I was so hungry y'all almost didn't get a photo! They were divine. A bit of gooey cheese and a smattering of aioli sauce and voilà! They were sizable too. It took several bites to take care of them. My sweet friend had a porter to drink, I'm not drinking alcohol right now and had a Coke. Our service was excellent and we had a perfect view of the terrible weather that evening. Made reservations through Open Table for lunch before an event at the nearby Oregon Convention Center. This restaurant is located on the top floor of the Hotel Eastlund. Street parking available through Parking Kitty, or several pay to park lots and garages nearby. They have a small lunch menu with a nice variety of options. We decided on the Cold Turkey BLT with fries, The Rooftop Reuben with baby gem salad, and the apple crisp with ice cream for dessert. All the food was really good and served hot. Loved the amount of meat on the sandwiches and the fries were nice and crispy. The dessert had a yummy pepita brittle on top. Service was great, after we were seated. Only one person was handling the hostess area, bar area and serving all tables when we arrived at noon. It took roughly ten or so minutes to be seated. Staff was friendly and communicative though. Multiple employees brought our food and cleared our table. Loved the teamwork! The view was spectacular! The outside seating would be great on a nice, warm day. Aesthetically, one of the nicest bars, rooftop patio and view in Portland. This alone makes it a great spot to meet up with friends. There are lots of seating options on the patio - couches and chairs around a fire pit, long tables, high top bar counters - which enables customers to share the space while still having their own private area. Inside is a huge oval bar with seating on both sides. For those seeking a more restaurant vibe, there is a section behind the bar with booths and tables. Metropolitan Tavern took over the previous Altabira Tavern space in the Hotel Eastlund. I'm super happy about that because the space is just to great and convenient to sit vacant. While the menu has changed, they still do a great Happy Hour from 3-6pm with a bunch of satisfying appetizers to share or for yourself. They have Kobe beef sliders, the requisite spinach and artichoke dip, Buffalo cauliflower, and my fave, the pork tacos. Plus salads and a hummus plate. Specialty cocktails offered at HH prices are available, but I can't speak to them because I always get the happy hour red for $9.50. I find that HH cocktails are typically too sweet for my palette. Service has always been friendly and efficient. Give grace if you are there on a gorgeous day and everyone had the same idea as you did, to hang on the rooftop. Also crowded before Blazer games and events at the Moda Center, but not to crowded to deter me from going there or from getting good service. The servers were kind when interacting with me, but I was a little put off by hearing them bad mouth a table nearby, complaining about a group of guys asking for separate checks. I also felt like they kept stopping by but it took awhile to get my box and my check. Maybe they were just frazzled? The room was about half full so moderately busy. I did not care for this pizza and I would not recommend ordering it. The crust was floppy, and it was somehow too leafy but lacking in toppings, and what toppings there were just slid right off when you picked it up. The mocktail was fine but I wish I had known I was getting a sugar rim - the whole glass was sticky. Overall the place seems nice, I think I just came at a bad time. If I was at this hotel again, I'd give it another shot, but I'd order something else. read more

Mediocre. Underwhelming. It left me wanting more. The service was super slow. Two members of our group waited nearly 30 minutes to get their first drinks. And every dish was pretty disappointing; the salad dressing was flavorless, the sliders desperately needed some kind of sauce/aioli, and the pizza was very bland. We were "gifted" a complimentary spinach artichoke dip and no one liked it enough to have more than one bite. We were there on a busy night, so maybe we didn't get their best. But ultimately, I wouldn't make an effort to try Metropolitan Tavern ever again. read more

Came here and had a wonderful evening on the rooftop! Walking in, the location is actually a hotel and you're directed to the elevator to go to the rooftop. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, but if the weather allows it, I highly recommend sitting outside. They have floor to high windows that make up the "walls" so you can see outside clearly. And, when you're coming around sunset, it is absolutely beautiful. My partner and I got two drinks and their poke and it was pretty alright. Their menu is a bit bigger than other places I've seen with both small bites and fuller meals. Service here was pretty nice and fast too! I was lucky to find this hidden gem. It is located on top of the Hotel Eastlund, directly across from the Hyatt Regency near the Convention Center. I highly recommend this restaurant/bar. This place is a roof top location with a nice view. They have indoor and outdoor space. They have a few outdoor fire pits that they light at night. They also have a daily Happy Hour 3-6pm and 9-11pm.!! The first night we discovered this place we had a small appetizer with some bourbon. Interesting fact they serve 2oz of bourbon for a great price. The second night we returned we had a great bottle of Red Blend with a Happy Hour priced pizza. Both nights we had a great time with great food and drinks at a good price. Both nights the service was great. And both nights this place was busy. read more

I guess there really is a bad apple in every place you go to. At the metropolitan tavern, that would be Jason. I wanted to express that the dessert we received appeared to have been overcooked. I provided photos of what we got today, versus last year (im sure I don't need to clarify which is which.. it's obvious). There was clear evidence of it being overcooked, as the moisture from the cookie has completely evaporated and we are left with this thin DRY cookie crust. Instead of responding as kindly as our server, Amy, did... he decided to raise his voice and continuously tell us we were wrong. Perhaps he got his job title out of sheer luck given his attitude wouldn't have gotten it for him. But besides the point, he should keep his attitude in check, especially when dealing with costumers.
