    Undercooked oily calamari

Calamari is undercooked consistently... 2 more minutes or higher temp would equal golden delish instead of oily limp 2 minutes after it hits the table. Please inform your chef

Our company had a holiday luncheon event at Met Tavern and from the moment we reserved the space, we were treated with kindness and impeccable service. Kaya and Annette, our event coordinators are so easy to work with. They recommended a delicious holiday spread. The staff was amazing and the food was tasty. The full size desserts were 10 out of 10! Cocktails were a hit and they even had a great selection of mocktails available. The event was seamless.

WOW!!! This restaurant checks all the boxes. Delicious food, drinks, friendly and helpful service staff, indoor/outdoor seating, and the view from the 6th floor restaurant is perfect for people watching or a sunset. Metropolitan Tavern is on the top floor of Hotel Eastlund near the convention center and the max line. The lobby of the hotel has a clean cozy hip vibe. The hotel has an attached parking structure, Grand Ave. entrance. Metropolitan Tavern is part of Urban Restaurant Group.

Staff were awesome. Great view and food was good. Came in for happy hour. Just walked in no reservations. They have a rooftop outside seating but it was raining on the day I came so I didn't get to enjoy the outside rooftop seating but it looked beautiful. The Mckenzie Twisted Meniscus IPA was good, and really enjoyed the pizza & calamari but I didn't care for the sauce that came with the calamari. They brew the McKenzie. Also tried the Raging Rhino Red. Really good as well. Ordered: Mckenzie Twisted Meniscus IPA Mckenzie Raging Rhino Red CALAMARI BURRATA YUCATAN TACOS

One of my BFFs wanted to surprise me with a girls night. Happy hour and a movie. I was super excited because nobody had taken me to the movies, including me, in about 5 years. We were going to see Irving Berlin's White Christmas. Oh my word, I loved it so much! Anyway, before I knew how awesome the movie was going to be, she surprised me and took me here to the Metropolitan Tavern. I'd never been before, at least I don't think I have unless it used to be the Holiday Inn's Windows, which was in business years ago and had a rooftop restaurant in NE Lloyd District. They have a generous happy hour menu and all reasonably priced considering how fancy pants it is. Both of us settled on the Kobe beef sliders. I was so hungry y'all almost didn't get a photo! They were divine. A bit of gooey cheese and a smattering of aioli sauce and voilà! They were sizable too. It took several bites to take care of them. My sweet friend had a porter to drink, I'm not drinking alcohol right now and had a Coke. Our service was excellent and we had a perfect view of the terrible weather that evening. We both noticed that they do a brunch on the weekends. That's our vibe. We're going to wait until the terrible weather goes away and then we'll be back. 2024 - Review # 25

Food was very tasty and delicious. Their caesar salad and cauliflower buffalo "chicken" hit the spot. Our drinks were yummy. We tried one of their seasonal cocktails, I could have drank multiples of them I can't remember which drink it was. Our server was amazing, she was busy yet very attentive to everyone. The ambiance is lovely, perfect outdoor seating on a nice sunny day. Lots of space, and the inside is also very nice. This restaurant is located inside a hotel. I would come back to try more of their drinks and food items.

Made reservations through Open Table for lunch before an event at the nearby Oregon Convention Center. This restaurant is located on the top floor of the Hotel Eastlund. Street parking available through Parking Kitty, or several pay to park lots and garages nearby. They have a small lunch menu with a nice variety of options. We decided on the Cold Turkey BLT with fries, The Rooftop Reuben with baby gem salad, and the apple crisp with ice cream for dessert. All the food was really good and served hot. Loved the amount of meat on the sandwiches and the fries were nice and crispy. The dessert had a yummy pepita brittle on top. Service was great, after we were seated. Only one person was handling the hostess area, bar area and serving all tables when we arrived at noon. It took roughly ten or so minutes to be seated. Staff was friendly and communicative though. Multiple employees brought our food and cleared our table. Loved the teamwork! The view was spectacular! The outside seating would be great on a nice, warm day. We enjoyed our first visit and would return.

Ambiance: 7/10 great views of the city Service: 6.5/10 we were in a rush and they accommodated us but the waiter wasn't in a great mood. Regardless they helped us get in and out quickly. Food: 6.5/10 CHILAQUILES: 6.5/10 I've never ordered this dish but was pleasantly surprised! The chips were covered in a nice red sauce but they weren't soggy. The beans, eggs and cheese provided a hardiness that I really appreciated. All in all, I'd order again. I wouldn't rave about it to all my friends but if they asked I would say the food was good.

Came here for apps and drinks with a couple of friends. The food and drinks were just ok. The issue was the waitress. She never checked back in on us, forgot food we had ordered, and at the end of our meal I asked for a box. I waited for about 10 minutes. She never brought a box until she saw us walking out and then asked me if I still needed a box.

Great rooftop view showing the city and the nearby spires of the convention center. They have a great happy hour drinks and foods selection. We ordered a margarita pizza, buffalo cauliflower wings, and happy hour drinks. Great service as our waters were refilled often and our food was brought out quickly. Parking is street parking which is metered but you can use the parking kitty app to extend parking without leaving. They have an outdoor area as well when it's a nice day.

10/10! A colleague and I are here in Portland at the Convention Center for a conference all week. We came in for happy hour yesterday and really enjoyed ourselves! We had great food and yummy drinks. So we came back today for lunch and I had the best salad in my life (steak salad)! The rooftop vibe is perfect and the staff were all nice and attentive even though they were very busy!

Rooftop restaurant in the Hotel Eastlund. Happy Hour is 3-6pm or 9pm- close daily. Erica was the best waitress. Provided us with some great suggestions. Other staff pitched in to fill water glasses and clear plates. Tried the Yucatán pork tacos and McKenzie Brewing Raging Rhino Red. Great portion size and flavor on the tacos for $8. The amber ale was perfect with the tacos. Excellent place to relax, take in the views, and enjoy great food/drinks.

Lovely time. Everything was solid. Nothing was overwhelming or underwhelming. Not too busy, not too empty. Not too loud, not too quiet. Good place to have dinner with the parents or grandparents.

The space itself is smaller and intimate, so bringing a larger group than about 4-5 people might not be ideal. The ambiance definitely gave Italy vibes, for sure. The chicken liver mousse was a good consistency, paired with the figs gave a nice balance between sweet and savory. The steak frites was a classic, steak was a good portion and cooked medium rare, but I'm sure if you wanted it more cooked through, you could make that request. The fries were definitely a standout, great texture and the garlic flavor gave a good contrast to the steak. My favorite dish was the dessert, the flaky crust gave a nice texture to the cream insides. I'm a huge passionfruit fan, so once I saw it was on the menu, I knew I had to try it. It didn't disappoint and I would definitely come back just for this dish alone. Overall a solid experience and would recommend people to try Canard out at least once!

We were genuinely excited and looking forward to a special evening. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short, especially given the price point and strong Yelp rating. The oxtail croquettes arrived cold, which was surprising for a fried item and set a disappointing tone early. The biggest issue was the hamachi crudo. It had a strong fishy smell with clear hints of ammonia and tasted far from fresh, bordering on spoiled. There was a lingering aftertaste that unfortunately affected everyone's palate for the rest of the meal. We sent it back due to quality concerns. My family and I grew up eating liver and mousse from our own family recipes and from many different culinary traditions. The chicken liver mousse here was creamy in texture but lacked depth and subtle sweetness, and tasted overly mineralized. It was the first chicken liver mousse I have ever not finished. The crab beignets were acceptable, though they could have used more crab. The accompanying sauce was well executed. The miso deviled eggs were tasty, and the anchovy add-on worked nicely. The Parisienne gnocchi, at $40, was not memorable and leaned heavily salty. Steak frites were standard, a dish that is generally hard to fumble. Unfortunately drinks. The shift in service after we sent back the hamachi was obviously uncomfortable and noticeable. The energy dramatically changed. There was little interest in engaging with our feedback. For a meal that totaled over $200, we left disappointed and still hungry. Portland offers many stronger dining options at this price point that deliver both quality and hospitality. Disappointing feels like an understatement. I am genuinely puzzled by the high rating based on the food quality and service we experienced. We will not be returning, nor would I recommend it based on this visit.

Reservation confirmation said, that door opens at 6:30pm and dinner service starts at 7pm. Phew, I'm sometimes bad with predicting the traffic patterns, so that gives you a little cushion. AND I arrived at 6:30pm on the dot. Ha! Plenty of street parking, but I wasn't sure I was in the right place since there was no sign. But, the building's number is clearly marked. So I stepped inside. There was music playing from the back of the building and I just kept moving towards the music. After 2 doorways, my husband remarked it was like we were entering a speakeasy. We stepped into a living room and proceeded through another doorway to find an open kitchen and jaw dropping red alder dining table. Standing in the kitchen was Chef Riley Eckersley and he greeted us like we were old friends. He had a couple of cocktails ready to pour and explained his concept of his place that has only been open for 3 weeks. Imagine an intimate dinner party (6 guests the night I was there) gathering for conversation while being taken on a culinary journey around Oregon. Throughout the evening, every detail was carefully curated, from the ingredients (from the coast to the mountains, he covered every corner), to the plating, music, and drinks (everything from mezcal, sake, orange wine, etc). The whole experience lasts 2 1/2-3 hours and I enjoyed every minute. I will certainly return as the menu changes with the seasons of Oregon. Our female server was rushed from the get go. While I was perusing the drink menu, she ran off to get my partner his wine because he had decided already. She wasn't willing to wait 5 seconds for me to decide. She was in a hurry to service other diners. It wound up being this way throughout the meal. There was constant rushing and not paying attention to us. It felt awkwardly harried. The problem with the food was my dish came half hot, half cold. The quail was hot and very flavorful while the pureed peas and potatoes were served cold under the quail. Normally, I would send it back for this, but I was too hungry and didn't want to hassle it. This entree was $38. But the biggest offense was that I wrote the restaurant about my experience and they did not respond. I might give a place another chance if they cared enough to hear from their customers and apologize, but that didn't happen. Hence this review.

As of right now, it sits at number one for my dad and a few of my friends alike. For me? I'm not ready to crown it just yet. I need a few more visits, a few more comparisons against my usual haunts. But it's up there. No question. When I first moved to Portland almost a year ago, this was one of the spots that kept coming up. Highly recommended, spoken about with a kind of confidence that usually means it's either overhyped or the real deal. We went for Mother's Day. Then again for Father's Day. My parents loved it -- the kind of love that doesn't need explanation -- and honestly, I get it. The service is immaculate. Thoughtful, attentive, but never hovering. You feel taken care of in a way that's increasingly rare -- like the front of house actually wants you to have a good time, not just turn the table. There's a real sense of pride in what they're doing. The team feels aligned, almost symbiotic. Front of house lifting up back of house, back of house delivering in a way that makes that support feel earned. Whether that relationship is perfect behind the scenes or not, it reads as seamless from the outside. And the food -- it's just excellent. Cooked perfectly, consistently, without unnecessary theatrics. No foams, no gels, no overworked plating trying to prove something. Just honest, confident cooking over fire. The kind of food that reminds you how good simple things can be when they're done right. It's indulgent in the best way. The kind of meal that might even tempt a few vegans back to the dark side -- at least for a night. It's not cheap. Let's be clear about that. I don't go here casually, and I'm not pretending I do. Thanks, Mom and Dad. But it's the kind of place that's worth saving up for -- not just for the food, but for the experience. For some people, this might be a random Wednesday night. For most of us, it's something you plan for. And when you do, it delivers. It's special without making a big deal about being special. And that's exactly why it works.
