Maple braised pork chops and maple brined carrots
    Emily S.

Everything was spectacular, the food, the service, the drinks, and the ambience were top notch. We followed their suggestion and ate family style. The filet, maple braised pork chops, and maple brined carrots were superb. Perfect flavors and texture, everything came out quickly and was beautifully plated. You definitely get your moneys worth, with generous portions and amazing flavors. The wine selection is out of this world, and the ox blood cocktail is a must have. I'll be back next time I'm in Portland!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Ox has super friendly staff, a great energy and vibe to the space, and an expansive and delicious menu spanning Argentinian inspired fare.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They started us off with a lovely cold soup, if I recall correctly leek and potato, and from there moved right into a lineup of heavy-hitting dishes that were packed with flavor. The beef tongue a la vinagreta was absolutely dynamite. Each piece of carpaccio was cut to the perfect thickness, which let it stand up beautifully to the punchiness of the spicy horseradish, acidic caper vinaigrette, earthy fried sweetbreads, and creamy ensalada rusa (potato salad). The clam chowder came out next, and while it was good as a standalone chowder, it was the one course that fell a little short for me. With smoked bone marrow in the mix and at the fairly high price point, I expected it to be more of a knockout, but it unfortunately just did not quite come together the way I hoped as the piece of marrow felt more decorative than additive to the flavors overall. Of course, we had to order one of the asados, so we opted for one of my absolute favorite cuts in the skirt steak and it did not disappoint! The steak was incredibly tender, cooked to perfection, and paired beautifully with their house made chimichurri sauce. Overall, it was a fantastic meal with great portions relative to the prices, and I'm definitely looking forward to returning next time I'm in the area to try some of the other offerings that we simply did not have the stomach space to try on this visit.

    Asado Argentina for two

Easily one of the best restaurants in Portland. The food is always incredible, the service is impeccable, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the ambiance is classy but semi-casual.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I recommend the asada for two, though honestly it's probably enough for three. It's a lot, but everything is delicious. Even if you aren't usually into sweet breads or morcilla, this is executed so perfectly that it's worth a shot. We ordered one of the daily specials, a beef tartare with arbol and peanut crunch, and were blown away. The best tartare I've ever had. For cocktails, we both had the ox blood and it surpassed expectations. Less sweet than we anticipated but that was a good thing. The beer list was small, but well curated and paired excellently with the meal.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]We were able to snag bar seats at 5pm. It was a super busy and packed night and we had an amazing experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The wood-fired smell hits you the moment you walk in. You know it's going to be good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The clam chowder blew me away. Smoky, rich, and layered in a way that I've never had chowder. The smoked marrow bone is the secret weapon. Then came the pork chop. It was moist and the maple glaze added just the right amount of sweet. Our bartender was slammed all night but never missed a beat -- always checked in, never made us feel forgotten. That's a hard balance to strike and they nailed it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Go and try to sit in front of the fire if possible.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Order those two dishes. You're welcome.

Service was consistently warm and friendly throughout two visits in the same week. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has an upscale yet relaxed atmosphere and I appreciated thoughtful touches like providing toothpicks in the restroom.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] On our first visit we had a reservation and were seated at a table. After ordering, patrons are served a complimentary leek soup in an espresso size cup. I wish it were on the menu because it is one of the best things I've ever tasted. The flavor is incredibly rich! We ordered the clam chowder, halibut, maple glazed carrots and tres leches cake. The clam chowder's presentation was nicely done but nothing special in taste. It came so highly recommended on Reddit and many other diners ordered it but neither my party nor I cared for it. The halibut was good but didn't stand out and the maple glazed carrots weren't to my taste. What completely won us over was the tres leches cake. It is one of the most delicious and most memorable desserts we've ever had. Every layer complemented the next perfectly creating an incredibly balanced dessert that wasn't overly sweet with different textures. We couldn't stop talking about it afterward. It was one of the reasons we decided to give the restaurant a second shot. After our meal I mentioned to our server that we weren't sure if we'd ordered the right dishes since we weren't thrilled with the food especially with how popular the restaurant is. He explained that it's primarily an Argentinian steakhouse and suggested returning to try the meat dishes. On our second visit we arrived at opening without a reservation. There was plenty of seating but since we didn't have a reservation we were seated at the bar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I didn't mind seated at the bar but the bar stools were extremely uncomfortable, almost torturous.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Unfortunately, it was too hot to sit outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Midway through dinner a machine, maybe a dishwasher, was turned on behind the bar. It was loud and the vibrations could be felt.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This time we ordered the beet salad, cheese empanada, beef empanada, two filet mignons and the lamb shoulder. The beet salad was a disappointment. It consisted of large overly soft chunks of beets with what tasted like a basic grocery store salad dressing. For a restaurant of this caliber I expected more. Neither of us enjoyed the cheese empanada but we both liked the beef empanada. We also ordered two filet mignons cooked the same way. Both arrived more done than requested and one way more overcooked than the other. They were also on the salty side, though both were very tender. The lamb shoulder, which our server had already warned us about before we ordered, ended up being dry and tough. The chimichurri served alongside the savory dishes was also heavier on onions than I prefer. Overall, the service was excellent, and the complimentary leek soup and tres leches cake were truly outstanding. Unfortunately, despite two visits, the main dishes we ordered didn't live up to the restaurant's reputation for us.

The food is delicious! Juicy and savory! I was having dinner alone and true as mentioned by the bartender portions are on the larger size! I chose 2 appetizers instead of a full dinner... Also since it was my first time in, it gave me a chance to try a couple menu items, Chardonnay (with an A in the book) and Amuse Bush mushroom soup with smoked paprika oil- [[HIGHLIGHT]]Family welcome and it was very cozy inside[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Thank you for a wonderful evening meal

The food is delicious! However, don't believe them when they say it's sharing size. I don't know who you're supposed to share with, but the sides are not sharable to me.. unless you're only sharing with one other person. Good thing we "over ordered", or so we thought. We tried the following dishes: - Half dozen PNW Oysters - Delish! Super fresh! Fun fact: this was the first time in years since I had raw oysters (I only like my oysters raw, but last time was not a good time - if you get what I mean) and glad to say these were super fresh and yummy! - Beef skirt steak (large) - 20oz sounds like a lot, but split amongst 4, it surprisingly wasn't much... came with chimichurri.. highly recommend - Grilled Maitake Mushrooms and Zucchini - I only tried a small piece from my friend's meal but this was super good especially if you love mushrooms! - Flash Fried Brussel Sprouts and Delicata Squash - it came with the most delicious yogurt sauce. I'd get this again and not share! - Spinach and Ricotta Gnudi- also surprisingly delicious. I don't know why I broke it up. Everything was good. My only complaint would be that for the price, the dishes weren't very big. As for desserts, we shared the hazelnut torte, vanilla bean tres leches cake, and the sticky toffee chocolate pudding cake. They were very different but all so good. You really can't go wrong. If you're into pickle and vodka, I hear the Dirty Grandma Agnes comes highly recommended. I'd definitely come back, as everything we tried was delicious. Definitely not a cheap meal, but we were celebrating so it's all good!

Shoot...This was the best culinary night of my life. Let's be clear - this place is expensive. There's no getting around that. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But beyond that, the food and service and the building are all 5+ stars![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If I were a wealthy man, I'd be here once a week. Highly, highly recommend. My date agreed - it was ALL delightful

Ox is a James Beard award-winning Argentine steakhouse and a must try spot. To get here, they do have a small parking lot or street parking around the area. Reservations are highly recommended so make sure to plan accordingly. Inside, they have a very intimate vibe that is dimly lit. For their menu, they have a range of appetizers, entrees, and wines to choose from. Wifey and I ended up going with the Tripe & Octopus for our appetizer and the Asado Argentino for Two as our entree. Everything that we had was delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. All of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Definitely consider this spot for your next date night or special celebration. There is a reason why this spot has over 1,000+ positive reviews!

Really great meal with lovely attentive service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe is kind of moody and dark in a cozy way.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Reservations highly recommended! They do have a parking lot but it fills up quickly. Loved that I could do a half order of some of the dishes!

Does the outdoor area have enough coverage to provide full shade? It's been hot recently!

It looked to me to be fully shaded. They built basically a fully covered outdoor room if I'm recalling correctly.

Is this a good place to bring kids?

I saw some 8-10year olds in one of the tables near us but not sure if they have a kids menu.

    Did they check vaccination cards?

No, checking vaccination cards is no longer a requirement to dine out. No one checks anymore to my knowledge.

    Anyone know the corkage fee?

Do you have to make reservations. Do they take walk ins?

Yes, but you might have to wait an hour or more.

Will they be open for Dec 31?

    Are there gluten free options?

Yes! Plenty and a gf fryer

Are they open for dine in?

    Yesh.

Is this restaurant open as of 5/23/21?

    How do I make reservations?

Ox now takes reservations on the Resy app!

    How do I make reservations?

They only take reservations for 6 or more people. You can email: Hello@oxpdx.com…

Hi there, can you tell what entrees are gluten free on your menu?

Hi. Thanks for the question. The fact is, there are only 5 items on the menu that CANNOT be served gluten free. The two empanadas, the oxtail terrine, and the two dessert cakes (chocolate and tres leches). Everything else on the menu is either…
