The food is delicious! Juicy and savory! I was having dinner alone and true as mentioned by the bartender portions are on the larger size! I chose 2 appetizers instead of a full dinner... Also since it was my first time in, it gave me a chance to try a couple menu items, Chardonnay (with an A in the book) and Amuse Bush mushroom soup with smoked paprika oil- Family welcome and it was very cozy inside Thank you for a wonderful evening meal

We ordered this for 2-people (including a sesame baguette not featured), and it was the perfect amount!

We came to Ox for my boyfriends birthday as it has been a place on our "Need to Try" list for a while now. One of the things that we bonded over early in our relationship was our love of GOOD food - and there is no lack of good food in Portland. However, Ox, is different. This place, is 10/10. We had a reservation (though they do take walk in's) and while we were waiting the staff was so kind and lovely. Then we sat on the patio which was GORGEOUS, and felt very European. The walls covered with jasmine flowers that smelled incredible. Our waiter was so attentive, educated on the menu, and helpful when we had questions. He also made sure to check-in about the temperature in case we wanted the heater turned on. We had not a single complaint about any of the food that we had. It was all unbelievable. Before we left we knew we wanted to create some kind of excuse to come back. Thank you Ox, we will see you soon!

Shoot...This was the best culinary night of my life. Let's be clear - this place is expensive. There's no getting around that. But beyond that, the food and service and the building are all 5+ stars! If I were a wealthy man, I'd be here once a week. Highly, highly recommend. My date agreed - it was ALL delightful

Really great meal with lovely attentive service. The vibe is kind of moody and dark in a cozy way. Reservations highly recommended! They do have a parking lot but it fills up quickly. Loved that I could do a half order of some of the dishes!

The food is delicious! However, don't believe them when they say it's sharing size. I don't know who you're supposed to share with, but the sides are not sharable to me.. unless you're only sharing with one other person. Good thing we "over ordered", or so we thought. We tried the following dishes: - Half dozen PNW Oysters - Delish! Super fresh! Fun fact: this was the first time in years since I had raw oysters (I only like my oysters raw, but last time was not a good time - if you get what I mean) and glad to say these were super fresh and yummy! - Beef skirt steak (large) - 20oz sounds like a lot, but split amongst 4, it surprisingly wasn't much... came with chimichurri.. highly recommend - Grilled Maitake Mushrooms and Zucchini - I only tried a small piece from my friend's meal but this was super good especially if you love mushrooms! - Flash Fried Brussel Sprouts and Delicata Squash - it came with the most delicious yogurt sauce. I'd get this again and not share! - Spinach and Ricotta Gnudi- also surprisingly delicious. I don't know why I broke it up. Everything was good. My only complaint would be that for the price, the dishes weren't very big. As for desserts, we shared the hazelnut torte, vanilla bean tres leches cake, and the sticky toffee chocolate pudding cake. They were very different but all so good. You really can't go wrong. If you're into pickle and vodka, I hear the Dirty Grandma Agnes comes highly recommended. I'd definitely come back, as everything we tried was delicious. Definitely not a cheap meal, but we were celebrating so it's all good!

Some bulletpoints because theres so much to say! - hubby loved his So Real cocktail. He said "would drink 10." - Dungeness Crab Bruschetta was so so good! We recommended it to the table next to us, and they liked it too! - Mushroom soup was so smooth and delicious! Perfect mushroom flavor without tasting like dirt. - Beef Tounge was not for me (I really hate capers ). Also was not a fan, personally, of Blood Sausage. Hubby loved both so if thats your thing, you'd probably really like them! - The rest of the Asado Argentina for Two was AMAZING! - I put the chimicurri on everything and they were so nice and brought me an extra bowl of it AND extra togo!! Thank you!! - The wine selection was incredible! I had the '21 Sangiovese and it was so so good. - Our server was very familiar with the menu and gave us such a good description of the specials and each dish we asked about! - The rest of the staff was very nice and they took away dishes and cleaned our table (literally wiped away crumbs) from previous ones so quick. - The overall vibe was so cool! I really want to sit outside next time we visit! I will be recommending this place to everyone from now on!

Ox is a James Beard award-winning Argentine steakhouse and a must try spot. To get here, they do have a small parking lot or street parking around the area. Reservations are highly recommended so make sure to plan accordingly. Inside, they have a very intimate vibe that is dimly lit. For their menu, they have a range of appetizers, entrees, and wines to choose from. Wifey and I ended up going with the Tripe & Octopus for our appetizer and the Asado Argentino for Two as our entree. Everything that we had was delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. All of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Definitely consider this spot for your next date night or special celebration. There is a reason why this spot has over 1,000+ positive reviews!

Looks like a salad, but tastes like a winner.

Outstanding! I started with a half portion of the little gem salad and then had a medium-rare filet mignon with some red wine. It's one of those salads that makes you think you'd be a lot healthier if salad was always this good. And the steak? Perfectly cooked. (Seems like they switched from grass to grain-fed beef but lowered the price when they did.) And the sauce they use appears to vary over time, keeping it interesting for any regulars. Someone sitting next to me complained that their steak came out lukewarm. The staff was extremely apologetic and attentive to the complaint and at least three people said sorry. I think the server, cook, and manager. (I kind of wanted to tell the old guy that's its steak. It isn't supposed to burn your tongue when you take a bite but I digress. Lol) "In this day and age, I'm more impressed with good service than I am with good food. Ox has both." -feel free to quote this Add in a dim, candlelit dining experience with creaky floors and you've got yourself a winner. My only complaint? They didn't take the tres leches away from me and allowed me to eat the entire dessert by myself.

I absolutely loved everything about my meal at Ox. A good friend brought us here during a visit to Portland and expectations were so high. Not only did they exceed our expectations but they set a high bar for all the other restaurants on our list. Service was excellent and ambiance was very warm and inviting. My highlights from the meal -- chowder with bone marrow-- was unbelievable and so flavorful. Oddly the pork chop was fantastic and overpowered the steak. The only items I would skip heirloom burrata salad and halibut since they did not shine through .. but we did order an obscene amount of food. I would put Ox on the list of must visit if in the area. Highly recommend and will be back!

Got the ribeye, it was insane and delicious and yes, it does take 45 minutes but we were prepared and ready for the wait. We came to celebrate a birthday and they decorated a plate for us. Service was great, fast and friendly. The potatoes were good, but skip the artichoke hearts - they were greasy.

Yum. What a treat this place is. Cozy and comfortable. Impressive to see. Great place to relax and enjoy a superb meal. Service is the best of the best. Extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The food is crazy good. Ox has been at this for some time, and it just keeps getting better and better. And it's not all just heavy meats (though those are superb), but they have a varied menu. Worth a visit any time you can get a reservation.

    Ribeye steak
    Ariel W.

I'd been long overdue to give Ox a try and my only regret is that I didn't go there sooner. The food was outstanding and I think the ribeye was probably the best I've ever had. We ordered it rare, they cooked it perfectly, it came with a delectable sauce and I would not have changed a thing about it. We started our dinner with a half dozen oysters and the beef tongue a la vinagreta which was phenomenal. We ordered the radicchio/romaine salad to go with the ribeye which was an ideal pairing. We were satiated at the end of the meal with no room for dessert. The ambiance was dim-lit and cozy. Waitstaff were professional and attentive.

Does the outdoor area have enough coverage to provide full shade? It's been hot recently!

It looked to me to be fully shaded. They built basically a fully covered outdoor room if I'm recalling correctly.

Is this a good place to bring kids?

I saw some 8-10year olds in one of the tables near us but not sure if they have a kids menu.

    Did they check vaccination cards?

No, checking vaccination cards is no longer a requirement to dine out. No one checks anymore to my knowledge.

    Anyone know the corkage fee?

Do you have to make reservations. Do they take walk ins?

Yes, but you might have to wait an hour or more.

Will they be open for Dec 31?

    Are there gluten free options?

Yes! Plenty and a gf fryer

Are they open for dine in?

    Yesh.

Is this restaurant open as of 5/23/21?

    How do I make reservations?

Ox now takes reservations on the Resy app!

Hi there, can you tell what entrees are gluten free on your menu?

Hi. Thanks for the question. The fact is, there are only 5 items on the menu that CANNOT be served gluten free. The two empanadas, the oxtail terrine, and the two dessert cakes (chocolate and tres leches). Everything else on the menu is either… Read more

Yes I love a Willamette Valley Pinot or a Washington Cabernet, but I get a lot of those when I'm visiting these areas, which I do frequently. At Muse you can enjoy a red from France, Spain, Italy, as well as local. Lots of whites and some bubbles, too. You can do a tasting of three half glass pours of your choice, or order a glass. Some nights they have tastings that they have preselected. Last night, based on Alex's recommendation, after telling him my preferences, I had the 2021 Crozes-Hermitage from Paris. It was a bigger red, but so smooth. Next I went with the Rioja Gran Reserva which was more fruit forward. Another winner. Their cheese and jam plates are fabulous, the cheese especially delicious, and pair perfectly with the wines. Have a feeling I'll be back frequently to this charming neighborhood wine since my friend works out next door, so it's a perfect meeting spot.

The focaccia is dense and can make you full fast, but the garlic eggplant butter balances it out and makes me feel less full. It's hard to explain but it just makes me hungrier as I eat - The Young Yellowtail Toast is also a must get. The amount of yellowtail they give you is generous, it's refreshing with the lemon. We got this dish at the end of our meal. By that time we were pretty full, but the yellowtail gave us a second wind because of how good it was - The Gems and Chicories is good only if you like beets. THE BEETS IS WHAT MAKES THIS DISH, so if you're not into beets don't get this. Seriously I cannot stress enough how important the beets are and how it ties together this dish. As I was eating it, I was fairly unimpressed up until I had the beets. I had to kind of fish them out from the bottom, it was like they were hiding from me or something, but once I found them they completely transformed the salad for me - The Grilled Squid and Gremolata was forgettable, it wasn't bad by any means but the other dishes were so good it kind of drowned this one out to be honest - The Corned Lamb Terrine was also forgettable for the same reason the Grilled Squid was. I don't have anything bad to say, it just pales in comparison to the other dishes we had. Ambience: - It's a smaller place, it can fit maybe 20-25 people I think - There's a large floral display in the back wall that I was sitting next to that made for great pictures - I love all the hanging plants and the vases with plants, it zhuzhed up the place for sure. It almost gives a old timey Victorian vibe Overall: I've been to this place twice and I've enjoyed each visit. I do plan on visiting again sometime. It's a great place to meet up with friends for a drink and bites. I wouldn't go on a date here, it's a little too loud, I felt like I was screaming at my Fiancé for her to hear me. The wine is excellent and the food is good
