Came here B's bday dinner and did not disappoint. We got the famous onion rings, and while B does not like onion rings, he literally ate the whole plate. The dipping sauce is something else - super yummy. Awesome drinks and the food was great too. Service was wonderful and delicious dessert to end the night. Cool restaurant inside/ separate bar area for after work drinks. You can bring your own wine (probably a cork fee). Dim lights and overall nice place for a date night. Free valet (tips appreciated) as it's a tight parking lot.

Came here for Valentine's Day and really enjoyed our visit our server Hank was so attentive and friendly and also really interesting to hear the story about ringside. The aesthetic of the place is awesome. Very old style love the music choice. It's kind of like a post snore themed ambience and low barrels, bricks and wine cases everywhere. I had to dry aged, New York rare and it was very good. It's a little more rare than they usually cook, but they probably do it better than me. They had a really good umami type flavor and aroma on the surface. The famous onion rings are no joke, and I couldn't stop eating them, which probably made me full faster before the rest of the food got there. Had like a light tempura like batter really crispy and the onion had the perfect bite to it. It didn't string out or was too slimy or too hard. We also got the lobster mashed potatoes, and there were some hearty pieces of lobster claws on top of the mashed potatoes. It was very good. My wife did get her own steak. She got a ribeye, but both those steaks with everything we ordered is way too much food. We'll probably share a steak next time. Excited to come try it again someday.

Was brought here for a date last night 2/20/26 The ambiance when you walk through the door is amazing and very romantic. It's gone through a complete remodel and looks great inside. Keli, our server was very friendly and her service was impressive. We ordered for an appetiser the onion rings which were very good. My date ordered the Filet Mignon with Lobster on side for me. I also had the Caesar Salad without the anchovies. I was served A Willamette Valley Riesling one of my favs and it didn't disappoint. Dinner tasted so good and nothing was left. I'd definitely recommend this place especially for a special occasion

10/10!!! Amazing. Wow. My bf and I just had a last minute Sunday dinner here and we left feeling super satisfied! We came in with no ressy and they were busy so we luckily got a seat in the bar area and it was totally fine! Shout out to our server Taylor! She is amazing, attentive and so sweet. We loved the ambiance in here and the food- omg!!! We shared a 10 oz filet (med rare) with a baked potato and the carrots on the side. Everything was amazing, cooked to perfection! Thanks for the best dinner:)

We had a reservation here in late August upon the recommendation of my sister. My girlfriend and I somehow got a 7pm dinner time on a Friday here and arrived here ready to eat and be impressed! Once you walk in, you're entering a dark area that gives intimate steakhouse vibes. We were led to the back area with more privacy and some unique decor. Our table had a portrait of Muhammed Ali looking over on Sonny Liston with his boxer shorts hanging in the frame next to it. Pretty nice touch if you ask me! We didn't do any fancy cocktails, just some red wine and a few gin martinis. They have wines by the glass or you can go fancy and get a bottle. We decided on a couple glasses of the Walter Scott Pinot Noir, not bad although at $22/glass is overpriced; but the girlfriend wanted it so that's what we did. The martinis were a much better option, I ordered a second one since the first was wonderful! As for food, we started with the onion rings due to the hype surrounding it as the best in America. They are extremely good with the thick batter and the onions being at the perfect texture. You can dip it in their special sauce or ketchup, it comes with both! As for entrees, it's always steak! For her, the 8oz filet mignon; while I went with the 20oz bone-in ribeye. We both got baked potatoes to pair it with and a side of the sauteed pole beans (green beans) since we needed a vegetable for our meat and potatoes. Our steaks were delicious and cooked to our preferred medium rare. We didn't get any dessert as we were both stuffed afterwards but we saw the lime cheesecake go out to the party of 4 sitting next to us. We pondered it but decided to call it a night and close out. This is one of Portland's recommended fancy eats if you want to pony up more $$$. For the experience we had, we were pleased and would be open to coming back here again.

Ringside might be the best restaurant I've been to in Portland. The food is superb, the steak quality is excellent. I asked mine for medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. My son asked for medium and they didn't blink an eye. The onion rings were crispy and hot, they flew off the table into our mouths. The old fashion was smooth. The service was superb! We never waited long on anything and everyone was friendly. This is a special occasion restaurant for us but it's well worth it. Can't wait for my next visit!! Love this place and hope it doesn't change.

Ringside is one of the best in Portland. Fantastic food, great service, and elegant ambiance. I could eat there every week.

I did not do my homework. They have a parking lot but it's valet only. I don't think there's an additional charge for it, that's just how they handle parking. The outside is very plain and you would have no idea it's a restaurant. The waiting area is pretty small and they were VERY busy so make sure you have a reservation. Inside is pretty dark so pictures don't come out good. The hostess and server were so nice and they were fast. I had the onion rings and the ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and a side of mushrooms. The onion rings were just ok. The small size was actually pretty big. The rings themselves were just a bit too thick for my liking. The mushrooms were also pretty good. The star of the show was the ribeye. It couldn't have been cooked more perfectly. I don't know what they cook it with but it was absolutely delicious. It was juicy and flavored just the right way. It didn't need any butter or anything and I think that might have taken away from the flavor of the steak. This place is pricy but I think it's totally worth it.

Dining at Ringside Steakhouse was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. We started with their famous onion rings, and I can confidently say they live up to the hype. They are perfectly crispy, golden on the outside and packed with flavor on the inside with the soft onion. Paired with their unbelievable sourdough bread and butter and caesar salad was a match made in heaven. The main course I had a perfectly medium rare steak that was very juicy and melted in my mouth with every bite. You can tell this is very high quality food, and while on the pricier side it's so worth it for the experience. What truly made our night was our server, Chadwick, he was exceptional. Attentive without being pushy, incredibly kind, and genuinely invested in making sure my night was amazing. He gave great recommendations and made the whole night personalized. Parking was fairly easy, if you didn't want to use the valet, a lot of street parking. But give yourself extra time just in case as we went late in the night. Overall though this place was everything I wanted for a nice date night, the food, ambiance and service. It's a restaurant you need to make a review for, because it was just that good.

They survived the kitchen fire and recently reopened. We went Sunday night and pleased to report that they are back delivering the same great food in the same lovely space with the same great service. I did something that I never do in a meat forward restaurant- I ordered the entree-sized crab Louie - it was wonderful - an amazing sized plate- so when added to a very cold gin martini and onion-rings and a few samples of my partner's steak I took home enough for the next day's lunch. I never eat fish at a steak place but I did on Sunday and it was delicious. Happy to say that they not only survived the fire the returned as if nothing happened- love it!

The space has an old school feel and well designed. We ordered the 20 oz. dry aged bone-in ribeye with chimichurri, crab cakes, onion rings, Brussels sprouts, and mushrooms. Almost every bite of steak was a bit too salty so maybe the chefs had an off night? I ordered it medium rare and some parts of the steak was rare, so inconsistently cooked too. The onion rings definitely lived up to the hype--it had an airy batter and the onion was almost al dente, soft but had a firm structure. Crab cakes were loaded with crab and creamy--pretty solid item. Mushrooms and brussels sprouts were fine, nothing special. Service was attentive and earned their money that night, checking in on us constantly and gave great descriptions and suggestions. They even gave us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. The only part that bugged me was they didn't warn us before splitting our steak since I prefer to keep my steak whole. Then the bill came and we saw an $8 charge, which is standard at some places, but would've been nice if they warned us beforehand so we could opt out of it. We actually prefer to keep it whole and cut as needed.

This was my first time at this historic restaurant, and it won't be my last! Five stars isn't enough to give for the evening experience I had! Outstanding service. We were treated like honored guests. The restaurant is designed with small areas of seating to give you a cozy feeling. There's a fireplace and a bar area as well. Ironically, this is known as a steakhouse and I don't eat meat. Their seafood options were spot on! The crab cakes were scrumptious and the shrimp cocktail was huge and delicious. Did I mention the onion rings??? I also had a wonderful Caesar salad. For dessert we ordered a whiskey sorbet. Out of this world! They also had an admirable selection of specialty cocktails and an extensive wine list. Truly a memorable evening.

When we rolled up and saw valet parking we knew this was going to be extra. (We didn't use it because we found street parking right in front, but still a cool feature to add to the luxurious vibe). We had a reservation, and we were a few minutes but we were still seated right away. Coat check was a nice gesture as well, as the seating didn't allow for much extra space. Our server, whom I am spacing on his name was incredible. Very attentive without being over bearing. We started with onion rings of course, and for the large you get a great amount. I was skeptical on the French/blue cheese dipping sauce that was served with them, but it somehow worked and was wonderful. I love onions and these were the best onion rings I have had. They serve real sour dough to the table as well, and it had a nice zip. We split 3 shareable vegetables, the Brussel sprouts, carrots and squash. All of them were a great amount and well executed. The smoked carrots were the fan favorite. Our table ordered prime rib, the salmon and fried chicken. Each plate was stunning, tidy and for the price a full plate. Going to "nicer" places often means a very small portion, but we all had lots of leftovers. Dessert was good, we tried the pumpkin cheese cake, the chocolate cake option and the toffee. Decent but I was not wowed. Honestly, I would opt for onion rings for dessert too. A very warm and cozy experience, pricy but cozy.

Ask the Community - RingSide Steakhouse

I am craving their onion rings, can I take my small kids? Is there a kids menu?

Not a place for kids unless perfectly behaved

Do you have gift certificates available? If so, can I purchase one on line?

    Yes

    Is there outside seating?

We do currently offer covered outdoor seating behind the restaurant.

Are masks required when the waiter comes to your table? Do waiters really wear gloves?…

They ask that diners wear masks while staff is at your table and if you leave the table. Paper menus are available upon request. Yes, the staff do wear gloves.

    Are reservations a must?

They make getting a table much easier. It's not required, but the wait will likely be very long if you go during a busy time of the week and you don't make them.

    What time is happy hour?

I'm vegetarian but going here for a friends birthday dinner. Are there any good options?

Sorry, I don't know the answer to this, but I feel confident assuring you that if you call them, they will do everything they can to give you what you want.

    Is this restaurant baby friendly?

It really isn't. It's an old steakhouse feel where people dress up to go out for a nice dinner. A lot of dates or special event type dinners happening and a baby likely would not be met with welcome arms.

    Is there a dress code?

As with most high end Steak houses, there is not a dress code per say, but being a fine dining establishment you want to look nicer than not. The servers have suits/tux's for… Read more

As of right now, it sits at number one for my dad and a few of my friends alike. For me? I'm not ready to crown it just yet. I need a few more visits, a few more comparisons against my usual haunts. But it's up there. No question. When I first moved to Portland almost a year ago, this was one of the spots that kept coming up. Highly recommended, spoken about with a kind of confidence that usually means it's either overhyped or the real deal. We went for Mother's Day. Then again for Father's Day. My parents loved it -- the kind of love that doesn't need explanation -- and honestly, I get it. The service is immaculate. Thoughtful, attentive, but never hovering. You feel taken care of in a way that's increasingly rare -- like the front of house actually wants you to have a good time, not just turn the table. There's a real sense of pride in what they're doing. The team feels aligned, almost symbiotic. Front of house lifting up back of house, back of house delivering in a way that makes that support feel earned. Whether that relationship is perfect behind the scenes or not, it reads as seamless from the outside. And the food -- it's just excellent. Cooked perfectly, consistently, without unnecessary theatrics. No foams, no gels, no overworked plating trying to prove something. Just honest, confident cooking over fire. The kind of food that reminds you how good simple things can be when they're done right. It's indulgent in the best way. The kind of meal that might even tempt a few vegans back to the dark side -- at least for a night. It's not cheap. Let's be clear about that. I don't go here casually, and I'm not pretending I do. Thanks, Mom and Dad. But it's the kind of place that's worth saving up for -- not just for the food, but for the experience. For some people, this might be a random Wednesday night. For most of us, it's something you plan for. And when you do, it delivers. It's special without making a big deal about being special. And that's exactly why it works.

It's near impossible to find restaurants that make your money worth it and Sayler's does that by always giving you sides of bread, salads, veggies and more. The steaks are great, sides are great and they even have oyster shooters. Sometimes I've ended up with a ribeye with too much fat, but I personally love steak fat so it's not the biggest deal to me. They do a great job at achieving medium rare/rare. The ambience is moody and rustic, the parking is relatively easy even on busy nights, and I've always had great service. I suggest Sayler's to my coworkers and friends and plan to forever!

Sometimes simple is better IMO. Sayler's isn't exactly simple but it doesn't fuss around with all the "extra". The meal I had was cooked to perfection (ribeye steak) and all the sides were fresh and delicious. Service was fantastic with frequent table visits and delivery of food timely. I love old Portland and this place sits squarely at the top of my roster when I'm looking for comfort, nostalgia and simple delicious food.

We got here about an hour before the sunset and we got to have amazing drinks and food while watching the sun disappear in the horizon. The Spicy Prickly Pear Margarita is fantastic and made with Don Julio Tequila, jalapeño and desert pear syrup and lychee sour. A fun twist on a classic, very surprising in a good way. I also tried the Amalfi Stroll with gin and aperol and passion fruit, lime and grapefruit. Perfect balance of sweet and touch of bitter from the aperitif. Other solid choices, pun intended, included the rockfish jambalaya which was loaded with flavor and very filling. And to end the night, butterscotch bread pudding ftw. Great place for amazing view, drinks and overall wonderful atmosphere and service.

One of my biggest concerns was dining with dairy-free and gluten-free restrictions. I asked whether there was anything on the menu that could accommodate both without substitutions, because with higher-end dishes, removing key components often leaves you with a plate that feels incomplete and not as thoughtfully prepared as intended. I was told that essentially every item on the menu contained one or the other, or both, which was frustrating and made it very difficult to order comfortably. Unfortunately, the service issues started before we were even seated. When we arrived, the hostess initially ignored us and had us walking around trying to figure out where to go for help, only for us to end up back where we started. When she finally acknowledged us, she rudely told us to stand against the wall until she was ready. It set an unwelcoming tone right away. Our server was also very cold and unfriendly throughout the meal. When I pulled out my chair to sit down, I found a bunch of crumbs on it that I had to clean off myself, right in front of the server. The plate already set in front of my seat, with the napkin on it, also had crumbs on it, which made the table setting feel careless and unclean from the start. Then when our wine arrived, the service got even sloppier. On the second pour, after originally pouring us each the correct wine, our server mixed up the bottles and topped off our glasses with each other's wine. It was a noticeable mistake and frustrating because the wines were already in our glasses and then ended up mixed together. For a restaurant that charges premium prices, I expected much better hospitality, cleanliness, and attention to detail. The view is lovely, but unfortunately the overall experience did not live up to the standard the restaurant presents.

There were many large seating area available. One main cedar table was a big attraction. There is a fireplace with a table by it We got a table. I ordered a Borgona, fruit puree juices mix with Sprite. Never had one, but sounded really good. It came and it was delicious and fruity for a mocktail. We ordered a shrimp ceviche and octopus skewers to start out with. The Shrimp Ceviche was very delicious and it was something that I was very happy to share it with my friends. It was a big portion of shrimp cocktail with salsa on the bottom and these large sized blue chips. It was so good that we ate it quickly. Octopus skewers was a tad charred. Yet very delicious especially if you eat it with the pineapple together. Brings out the flavor of the pineapples quite well. We ordered the Pork Belly Tacos and Mole Shrimp Tacos which came in 3. I absolutely loved street tacos filled with good fresh ingredients. And both of these hot the spot. The pork belly was an absolute great flavor of the pork belly. The Shrimp was delicious. Cook perfectly and easy to devour quickly. DeFuego Nachos had Jalapenos. But wasn't listed. The nachos were delicious and it was quickly devoured. Wings came in 4 wings with garlic parmesan with carrots and celery and ranch on the platter. Heavily garlic on the wings yet very delicious. Half wedge salad was a surprise how much there is in the salad. A lot of fresh veggies there with cherry tomatoes and sliced radishes in it. I had a absolutely fun experience celebrating my birthday here. DeFuego had Happy Hour from 3pm to 6pm, seven days out of the week. Seems the Happy Hour here is very popular. You have 21 appetizers to choose from on the Happy Hour Menu. There are Mocktails, and any drinks you want available. Definitely will come back again.

Shoot. Last night I took my boyfriend here to celebrate a special event & we left so disappointed!…read moreWe got there at 7:15 & we were stuck there for over 2 hours! I ordered 2 things and both came out wrong. Our waitress spoke very loudly and we could hear her having long personal conversations with people a couple tables away from us for 10+ minutes at a time, several times. While we waited for her, we ran out of water a few times and I had to ask for more. It was over an hour before our order was even taken. We did flag her down to order an appetizer, brussel sprouts with cheese on the side due to a dairy allergy, but... the sprouts came out with cheese on them. They corrected this fairly promptly, but then we sat for another 45 minutes before our order was actually taken. I ordered a steak as "somewhere between medium & medium well" and she correctly repeated my order back to me "medium/medium well." When the steak came out, it was WELL well done. Like, burnt. I wanted to send it back, but I didn't want to deal with the embarrassment or have to wait even longer for food. We were about an hour & 45 minutes into dinner by the time we got our food. I was so disappointed! I also wanted to get dessert to celebrate the occasion but the service was SO slow that we had to cancel our after-dinner plans. We ordered it anyway & requested the check promptly, giving up on our plans for the rest of the evening. We were only a party of 2, we arrived early for our reservation, & we watched several larger parties come and go while we waited for our order to even be taken. It was a Wednesday night and not overly busy, there were several empty tables, so I'm not sure what the hold up was. We were also seated at an odd table next to the kitchen with a small divider between us and the staff. It was noisy and I even heard 2 staff members exchange a joke about how someone else had left & said they'd never come back. They laughed about it. I wish I had the guts those people had to get up & leave! I've never once left less than a 20% tip and felt immense guilt not tipping well, but after experiencing the poor service then also hearing the staff blatantly acknowledge it & not care.... I was appalled. The Hilton bought the hotel attached to De Fuego and I'm shocked. This was a Monarch hotel before and I'd assume that the Hilton's standards would be higher but the service and quality here have tanked hopelessly low since the acquisition. I had a similar experience at The Underground before it closed. I've learned my lesson & won't come here for a special occasion again.
