Really great meal with lovely attentive service. The vibe is kind of moody and dark in a cozy way. Reservations highly recommended! They do have a parking lot but it fills up quickly. Loved that I could do a half order of some of the dishes!

The Pickle Martini was excellent!! Food was great we had the mix deal with Ribs, skirt Steak, seeet Breads, sausage, and Blood Sausage! It was all excellent! Sit at the bar. They are great people!!

The food is delicious but really expensive. The steak was amazing didn't even need to add anything the flavor was in point. The service is amazing they are all over you from the time you sit down. The ambiance is cool but small inside. If you like steak you'll like this place.

The food is delicious! However, don't believe them when they say it's sharing size. I don't know who you're supposed to share with, but the sides are not sharable to me.. unless you're only sharing with one other person. Good thing we "over ordered", or so we thought. We tried the following dishes: - Half dozen PNW Oysters - Delish! Super fresh! Fun fact: this was the first time in years since I had raw oysters (I only like my oysters raw, but last time was not a good time - if you get what I mean) and glad to say these were super fresh and yummy! - Beef skirt steak (large) - 20oz sounds like a lot, but split amongst 4, it surprisingly wasn't much... came with chimichurri.. highly recommend - Grilled Maitake Mushrooms and Zucchini - I only tried a small piece from my friend's meal but this was super good especially if you love mushrooms! - Flash Fried Brussel Sprouts and Delicata Squash - it came with the most delicious yogurt sauce. I'd get this again and not share! - Spinach and Ricotta Gnudi- also surprisingly delicious. I don't know why I broke it up. Everything was good. My only complaint would be that for the price, the dishes weren't very big. As for desserts, we shared the hazelnut torte, vanilla bean tres leches cake, and the sticky toffee chocolate pudding cake. They were very different but all so good. You really can't go wrong. If you're into pickle and vodka, I hear the Dirty Grandma Agnes comes highly recommended. I'd definitely come back, as everything we tried was delicious. Definitely not a cheap meal, but we were celebrating so it's all good!

Ox is a James Beard award-winning Argentine steakhouse and a must try spot. To get here, they do have a small parking lot or street parking around the area. Reservations are highly recommended so make sure to plan accordingly. Inside, they have a very intimate vibe that is dimly lit. For their menu, they have a range of appetizers, entrees, and wines to choose from. Wifey and I ended up going with the Tripe & Octopus for our appetizer and the Asado Argentino for Two as our entree. Everything that we had was delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. All of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Definitely consider this spot for your next date night or special celebration. There is a reason why this spot has over 1,000+ positive reviews!

I'd been long overdue to give Ox a try and my only regret is that I didn't go there sooner. The food was outstanding and I think the ribeye was probably the best I've ever had. We ordered it rare, they cooked it perfectly, it came with a delectable sauce and I would not have changed a thing about it. We started our dinner with a half dozen oysters and the beef tongue a la vinagreta which was phenomenal. We ordered the radicchio/romaine salad to go with the ribeye which was an ideal pairing. We were satiated at the end of the meal with no room for dessert. The ambiance was dim-lit and cozy. Waitstaff were professional and attentive.

I absolutely loved everything about my meal at Ox. A good friend brought us here during a visit to Portland and expectations were so high. Not only did they exceed our expectations but they set a high bar for all the other restaurants on our list. Service was excellent and ambiance was very warm and inviting. My highlights from the meal -- chowder with bone marrow-- was unbelievable and so flavorful. Oddly the pork chop was fantastic and overpowered the steak. The only items I would skip heirloom burrata salad and halibut since they did not shine through .. but we did order an obscene amount of food. I would put Ox on the list of must visit if in the area. Highly recommend and will be back!

Had a wonderful meal here, the restaurant is cozy and the wood fired grill is in the open to observe which I thought was fun! Was reassured that they have taken measures like dedicated fryers to make sure celiacs could still enjoy their menu. We got the carrots, Brussel sprouts, potatoes, rib eye and pork chop. We had lots of food left over. I felt confident that staff was very sure that there would be no cross contamination and I didn't have any symptoms post meal.

Got the ribeye, it was insane and delicious and yes, it does take 45 minutes but we were prepared and ready for the wait. We came to celebrate a birthday and they decorated a plate for us. Service was great, fast and friendly. The potatoes were good, but skip the artichoke hearts - they were greasy.

Yum. What a treat this place is. Cozy and comfortable. Impressive to see. Great place to relax and enjoy a superb meal. Service is the best of the best. Extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The food is crazy good. Ox has been at this for some time, and it just keeps getting better and better. And it's not all just heavy meats (though those are superb), but they have a varied menu. Worth a visit any time you can get a reservation.

One of the best dining experiences I have had in the Portland area in a very long time. Highly recommend coming here if you are in the mood for an elevated steakhouse night with classic Portland flair. The first "wow" moment for me was when we walked in and were greeted for our reservation- coat check was complementary! A small gesture but something that made an impression. Our water glasses were never empty, literally never. Every single person working was so knowledgeable and welcoming. My mother and I came in together for a special celebration night, and celebrated we were. Stars of the show food wise- clam chowder with bone marrow and flank steak **chefs kiss**. Will be sure to visit again!

Well we couldn't get a reservation, so we thought we'd take the slim chance that we could make it in if we got there early. Surprised and thrilled we made in! It was the one place my son wanted to go to while I was up here. First I want to say that EVERYONE here was charming, helpful and informative. Even as it started to get packed they all performed together helpfully and efficiently, always someone there when we needed them. The atmosphere with bare brick wall and grill fire was comfy. Very loud, though as it filled Here's what we had: Dirty Grandma Agnes Belvedere Vodka, Grandma Agnes' Pickles, Dolin Dry Vermouth: $15 kind of like dirty martini, only with pickle juice and a delicious dill pickle spear - 5* La Yapa Rye Whiskey, Fernet Branca, Velvet Falernum, Grenadine, Lemon: $15 this was my son's. A little sweet for me, but good- 4* Half Dozen pnw Oysters* on the Half Shell horseradish cocktail sauce, dill pickle mignonette, thai chile ponzu, lemon: $24. Incredibly fresh, briny, big. The chili ponzu, was too hot and overpowered the oyster, so we used the ther two.- 5* Asado Argentino for Two grilled short rib, house chorizo & morcilla sausages, skirt steak*, sweetbreads, fried potatoes*, green salad Beef Ribeye Steak* 16 oz : $135 Everything was good, with the skirt steak and sweetbreads being exceptional. Morcilla was a little dry and they were chintzy on the sweetbreads. Although it looked a little small for two we didn't quite finish. Patatas bravas perfect with an excellent aioli and the salad which included red onions and avocado had a bland dressing, but a little salt perked it up. Definitely a repeater, though obviously high end. Food: 5/5 service: 5/5 Ambience: 4/4 Intangibles:4.5 Overall:5/5

Maple glazed heirloom carrots with chèvre tarragon and truffle pistachios
    Rayna A.

Maybe one of my new favorite restaurants. They were able to accommodate a walk in for two upon opening, with a 15 minute wait. However, the walk-in for three behind us was going to have to wait up to two hours on a Saturday night. You'll want a reservation. SCENE Super cozy - they have a blazing fire grill and ambient lightings. There's bar seating near the grill and another bar at the actual full bar. They have tables in the back, front, and outdoor seating. FOOD I very much enjoyed my meal here. The portions are pretty large and served family style. They recommended about five items total for two people which felt spot on. We started with an amuse bouche - potato leek soup followed by a large bowl of clam chowder with smoked bone marrow. This was a lovely clam chowder; rich but not too heavy on the cream - not as smoky as I expected. I probably could've ate this with a baguette and been happy, but I'm greedy so we ordered more. We moved onto the crab bruschetta, which was delicious and fresh: four pieces of toast with a mountain of crab and avocado and radish - a really delicious vinaigrette to boot. Next came the fried potatoes with a horseradish, aïoli, and dill; a beet salad I could eat every day; and maple, glazed, heirloom carrots with truffle pistachios, and chèvre. TIP: They do half orders if you want to order two things, but you can also do a half order if you want to order three things - that's what we did. I highly recommend half order so you can try a lot of things. The portions are huge - you likely won't miss the other half. Our main courses were phenomenal. I highly recommend the ribeye, but be sure to order it the way you like. Mine was a little bloodier than I like so we sent it back no problem. 16 ounces of meat is a lot to me, but it was so good I was happy to take them leftovers. I'd also recommend the Alaskan halibut served on the bone. It's garlicky and lemony bright the way I like it. I had a sip of a cocktail and it was delicious. My glass of pinot went perfect with the meal. I honestly knew the beef was gonna be amazing. It's Argentinian. But the dessert was a fantastic way to end the meal - vanilla bean tres leches with dulce de leche and strawberry - perfect for sharing. SERVICE We had a couple of servers and all were really great about making us feel taken care of. We didn't know they did half orders so that was nice to learn and allowed us to try more than we intended. The bartender took our dessert order. I feel like this is the kind of place you go for a special occasion, but we just went because reviews from friends and family have been amazing. I feel like I'm the last person to try OX which was my birthday pick in 2020 right before the shutdown- they canceled my reservation and I never rescheduled. Anyway, long overdue - bravo!!

Does the outdoor area have enough coverage to provide full shade? It's been hot recently!

It looked to me to be fully shaded. They built basically a fully covered outdoor room if I'm recalling correctly.

Is this a good place to bring kids?

I saw some 8-10year olds in one of the tables near us but not sure if they have a kids menu.

    Did they check vaccination cards?

No, checking vaccination cards is no longer a requirement to dine out. No one checks anymore to my knowledge.

    Anyone know the corkage fee?

Do you have to make reservations. Do they take walk ins?

Yes, but you might have to wait an hour or more.

Will they be open for Dec 31?

    Are there gluten free options?

Yes! Plenty and a gf fryer

Are they open for dine in?

    Yesh.

Is this restaurant open as of 5/23/21?

Some nights they have tastings that they have preselected. Last night, based on Alex's recommendation, after telling him my preferences, I had the 2021 Crozes-Hermitage from Paris. It was a bigger red, but so smooth. Next I went with the Rioja Gran Reserva which was more fruit forward. Another winner. Their cheese and jam plates are fabulous, the cheese especially delicious, and pair perfectly with the wines.
