Walked in at 5pm on a Sat. Music was blaring and it was impossible to hold a conversation. Ordered a wine flight, and both the meat and cheese plates. Wine came out and meat and cheese. No explanation of what the meat and cheese even were. They were out of crackers so she had to go up the street to buy some to bring back to us. By the time she returned, we were half way through our meat/cheese. Anyways, she brought saltines...yucko. The cut up veggies that came with the meat and cheese seemed liked they'd been prepped early that day or maybe even the day before - the sliced cucumbers were soft. It was a weird experience. When I go to a wine shop I want to learn about what I'm eating and drinking and they servers really didn't have any idea. I feel like it was overpriced for the experience and food quality. Camilla the Yelping Hen makes no secret of her love of champers. "Cluck! Cluck!" She will enthusiastically say when she happens to pass by a place with bubbles. I came here with my friend and let me tell you we had an amazing time. They have a customizable charcuterie board option. Other than that, there isn't food food here, but they do allow outside food and they even recommend places in the area. I got the Wayfaring White flight and my friend got the Voyage Francais. My friend and I definitely enjoyed our flights. Both of us liked half of our flights and LOVED the other half. By the end of the night, we were laugh crying. We also ordered cheese, crackers, nuts, and dried fruits. All so delicious and great to snack on while we sipped on our flights. The cheeses were delectable. We also got truffles to end the night off on a sweet note. Our server was so nice and kind. She was very helpful and I could tell she wanted us to have a good time there. I vaguely remember there being games at the front of the store. It seems like a nice place to just unwind and just have fun. It's a really cute and clean spot. Parking is atrocious, but that's not their fault, just a busy area. read more

This place is fantastic! My husband and I swung by on a warm summer evening to partake in some wine. I heard that they had a few different wine flights so this is what drew me in. They had tables outside and they were amply distanced from one another. I found it quite enjoyable to sit out on the front patio and take in the sights of N. Mississippi Ave. The staff wore masks and took all precautions to keep everything clean and sanitized. We decided to order the sparkling rose fight as it was warm outside and it seemed refreshing. This really did hit the spot! I would order this flight again.. Or better yet, maybe a full glass of one of my favorites! After the flight we decided to get a couple glasses of red wine. We took recommendations from our server Chris. He listened to what we liked in a red wine and brought out wine we where both very pleased with. Stem had a wonderful selection of wine and a few flight options if you can't decide. The atmosphere is great and the staff is very nice and super helpful. With so many wine bars in Portland, don't settle for a substandard experience. We came in on 4/26 and our server did not know how to serve a bottle of wine (present the bottle, open in front of us, offer a sample taste). The bottle was opened at the bar then brought to the table and immediately poured into all our glasses. Not a huge deal, as we are definitely not wine aficionados, but if there's anywhere you expect proper wine service, it's at a wine bar. It was also weird that many of the wines were out of stock, especially since the menu is not that big. We were easy going customers, but when our second choice was out, and so was our third, it became comical. read more

My wife surprised me when I came home on Tuesday night, informing me that she'd booked a table at Stem Wine Bar in order to watch the Mardi Gras parade on Mississippi Ave. A nice surprise; I didn't even know we had a Mardi Gras parade in Portland! (Spoiler alert: it's short and not all that great, but hey, what else are you going to do on a Tuesday night?) Unfortunately, it seemed everyone else in the city DID know. We set out with plenty of time to make our reservation time, only to find a dearth of parking spots for a six block radius around the bar. By the time we wedged our vehicle into a spot and made it to Stem, it was too late to claim our table (our fault, not theirs). We ended up seated inside, too far removed to see the parade, but we still enjoyed our visit, for the most part. I have nothing but rave reviews for the wine we sampled, as well as the cheese plate, olives and King Cake (we found the baby! 10% off our bill! Woohoo!), and our server, whose name I forgot to catch, was fantastic...when he was available. Problem is, he was the only employee working, due to a recent staffing shortage, as well as the owner failing to turn up earlier, as expected. This left him scrambling to serve at least a dozen tables, while simultaneously attempting to conduct an interview with the female applicant sitting at the table adjacent to us. The fact that he was able to pull it all off, without wait times becoming aggravatingly long, is a feat borne of experience and professionalism, and he was able to keep a polite, positive and welcoming demeanor throughout. He deserves a raise (and when the owner eventually arrived to conclude things with the interviewee later in the night, I mentioned as much)! In addition to the snacks mentioned above, I ordered the "Dealer's Choice", where the bartender selects either an on-or-off menu vintage, for a slightly reduced price. Our random surprise ended up being a Domaine Colin "Blanc Vieilles Vignes" 2020, which my wife succinctly described as "Nutella wine", with sweet and nutty notes. We enjoyed it enough that we will likely have to hunt it down somewhere in the near future. The faults in our experience at Stem Wine Bar stemmed (hah!) from a lack of adequate staffing, and nothing else, and as evidenced by the rather hectic interview taking place next to us, they are taking steps to correct this shortfall. Everything else, from ambiance to service to selection, is impeccable. I get the feeling the Mardi Gras parade caught a lot of businesses off-guard; why else would a Tuesday night be *that* busy, right? Regardless, we won't be giving up Stem Wine Bar for Lent, or any other reason, for that matter. We'll be back. read more

Stopped in for a quick drink after dinner with my friend because we were looking for a dog friendly wine bar and was so pleasantly surprised by Stem! It's such a cute place in a great location and they had both indoor and outdoor seating. For indoor, they allowed dogs, which was the best news since it was kind of chilly outside. They had a good selection of white, red, and orange wine, as well as affordable flight options. Food wise, they had minimal snacks such as nuts and olives. Service was friendly and fast. This is the first wine bar I've been to in Portland. They have ample outdoor seating and some indoor seating as well. While looking at their website it prompted me to make a reservation so I did. When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon there was only one other party there. We sat outside and we were greeted right away. The hostess was polite and knowledgeable about all the wines on the menu. We opted for the Summer Sparkles flight. The particular flight comes with 4 4oz glasses. The menu has something for everyone, from sparkling whites to dry reds and flights to full bottles. There is beer on the menu but no ciders. They also have a couple of different snacks you can munch on while you enjoy your favorite wine. My fiance and I came in on Saturday night of their opening weekend and this place was awesome across the board - service, wine, ambiance, snacks, you name it. The space is comfortable and elegant. We enjoyed the couch seating area and mirrored tables. They also have a garage door in the front I can imagine will be awesome if they open it in the summer. They started off with complimentary bubbles which always makes you feel important. We ordered crostinis and the fondue platter, both of which were fresh, delicious, and presented nicely (we didn't get a photo of the fondue platter we quickly went to town on it) The best part were the wine flights. I got the red wine flight and she got the rose wine flight. Only $16 for 4 delicious wines from Oregon and France. The pours were v healthy too so I felt it was an awesome value compared to your standard winery tasting flight. The service was attentive, friendly, and helpful without being intrusive. These guys are super amazing. I have nothing but good things to say about them. I sent them an email requesting special requests for my partners birthday, and they graciously help me out with all of the preplanning down to the T. Their customer service is outstanding, they were so quick to reply to my emails and were very flexible due to timing and again the requests made. Or server [the only server there] Was Chris, and he was nothing but phenomenal. He constantly checked on us even though he had the entire restaurant to tend to, and was always very gracious. The only downside is that their food options are fairly limited, but that's not a big deal because they allow you to order from any of the many restaurants nearby and eat it at the wine bar. They said it is very cute and being right under the big maple tree was very relaxing. All in all, as you can see I definitely recommend this place. They made the birthday plans for my partner all that much sweeter and more romantic. They also had a discount on Yelp once you check in, but we forgot to use it. Saw an ad on Instagram about this spot and boy am I so glad I saw it! This place is so beautifully decorated and immediately sets a fun, polished, welcomIng vibe. I'm a big fan of flights so was very happpy to see that at the forefront of this menu. We went for the bubbles flight - everything was delicious and I had never had a sparkling red! Omg I've traveled the world and this is possibly my favorite wine bar I have been to. The ambiance and setting are adorable and perfect. The service is even better. Morgan taught me so much about how to explain the red wine I like and Eliza was the best host ever. They even let us bring our Thai food we ordered next door and eat at the bar. Joined my friend here for some glasses of wine at the bar. I I recommend making a reservation ahead of time area of packed we were lucky to get seated at the bar. My favorite part about this place is they offer "dealers choice" the bartender will pick a white, red ect for you. It's a really great value and a fun way to try out new wines. My friend has 10 years of experience in the service industry and hadn't heard of some of their wines so they definitely don't have a cookie cutter selection. Lots of unique and special wines. This is such a great spot! If you love seafood and wine, this restaurant was made for you. It's very classy so don't be afraid to get a little dressy. It's dimmed lit and cozy.
