Tucked away in a NE Portland neighborhood, this restaurant is a hidden gem perfect for date night. The low lighting and upscale feel create a great ambiance. Out of everything we tried, I recommend the Cioppino. It's a fantastic, soul waning stew overflowing with local seafood (clams, mussels, fish, shrimp) and oh so satisfying. We started with the Romaine and Radicchio Caesar Salad, which was an ideal appetizer to share. Service was excellent and attentive, and the noise level was pleasantly low, even when busy. We'll be back for sure!

I was very impressed by the menu, both cocktail and food. Margaritas were made with fresh mix, not too sweet and pretty strong. Olives were delicious, not just standard grocery store ones and they gave you a good amount. Caesar salad was huge. Oysters were fresh but overpriced, would skip that. The cioppino was incredible. Came out piping hot and I ate every last bit. Service was well paced. We had an early reservation so that may color things but they could use a bit of a refresh in lighting and ambiance to further elevate the experience I would definitely come back to try more of the menu.

Feels/looks quite fancy w/ seasonal rotating locally sourced menu & dim lighting I kind of thought it would be another expensive pretentious Portland restaurant but everything was reasonably priced for very quality food in a nice atmosphere. - The wrapped shrimp with glass noodles was much better than I thought as well - I was expecting spring rolls but it came w/ 3 jumbo juicy shrimp w/ a light crunch atop Korean japchae style glass noodles which was different but paired very well. - Cioppino: full of fresh variety of seafood including couple crab legs, mussels, shrimp & squid. The broth itself was a little light but delicious w/ the bread. - Ling Cod: very tender and flaky served atop some mashed taters & veg w/ a light fresh sauce, but nothing too mind-blowing flavor wise. - Tres leches cake was delicious w/ fresh tart berries. I don't normally mention service but the older gentleman who served us was very professional & on point. One disappointment is they got rid of their lamb sirloin plate I was very much looking forward to trying from pics & replaced w/ lamb ragú pasta which didn't seem worth ordering.

Service was excellent and the food was okay. I can tell lots of care and love goes into the food which is really great but the flavor profile of the duck was just off. It wasn't tender and had a really smoky flavor, was a bit too salty for me as well, I had to offset it by eating the dull flavor of the tart and had to wash down the rest with water. Maybe I just got a salty leg this day? The port wine strawberry jus was a really great touch and the duck skin was incredibly thin and crispy which was delicious. I also ordered the chocolate pot de crème, it was a bit grittier than I had expected but the flavor was nice. My husband ended up eating what I couldn't finish and he loved it.

The ambience is lovely. Nice low lighting and beautiful blown glass jellyfish chandeliers. The food was delicious. We had the paddlefish caviar appetizer. It was small but had incredible flavor. I ordered the cioppino which was packed with seafood, my only wish was that the crab legs were opened for me, it was a little messy to open soupy crab legs. My partner had the seasonal grouper, which was very flavorful and filling. I highly recommend Cabezon.

A time honored place that feels fresh and contemporary but trusted and true. We were able to make a reservation online about an hour before we wanted to eat. As soon as we arrived we were greeted and seated. Service was excellent, noise level perfect, it was comfortable and approachable. Everything we ordered was delicious! We had: Cioppino - plentiful and flavorful. Slightly spicy. Monkfish - really delicious, perfectly prepared. Mussels - slightly indulgent with all those fries and chorizo. Gorgeous broth. Generous portion. Even got a complimentary scoop of ice cream for my mom's birthday. Very nice!

This is a special place. The menu rotates to what is in season and is carefully curated to perfection. We made reservations earlier in the day and adjusted them to add to more friends easily. The staff quickly accommodated. The service was flawless. Water was continuously, refilled drinks checked on, recommendations made, and all the food came out perfectly timed. The staff was on point and kept the flow of the evening seamless. We enjoyed a variety of delectable dishes that tantalized each one of us.

Had a nice time at Cabezon! The ambiance was nice. We were seated quickly and the staff were friendly. We seriously tried almost some of everything...Caviar, Pork chops, Steak, Cioppino, Scallops, Oysters, and more. We also tried the cheese platter and marinated olives. I really enjoyed the Scallops and Oysters. My dining companions enjoyed their food as well. The portion sizes were generous, the service was good, and I would definitely go back again.

I heard how amazing the food and overall experience was at Cabezon from a foodie friend so I made reservations for 6 a couple weeks before we got to Portland for our visit to the University of Portland. The time came and we arrived to a really cool place, neat decor, comfortable and homey feeling. We were greeted by a very nice woman who gave us a place to sit and delivered our drink order very quickly while we waited for our table. Table was ready quick, our waiter was awesome and we quickly had apps on our table. I am a commercial fisherman from San Diego, so my seafood standards are very high. The mussels were great, shrimp bisque were excellent, the shrimp app was ridiculously well paired. The cheddar mac and cheese was rich and tender. 5 of us ordered the chopino and 1 ordered the lamb sirloin. They were both AMAZING. The chopino just kept giving, the juice was so good we got more bread to soak it up. We all agreed we will go to this place every single time we visit our kids up in Portland. The entire experience was 5 stars from start to finish. I will add the prices are very reasonable for the quality they are serving. The dessert menu sounded great but we all ate too much so that will be next trip.

Let's begin with the service, because it was superb. The entire staff was so friendly and attentive. Couldn't have asked for better service! The food was good. Definitely over ordered. Mussels and oysters were my favorite. Everything was a bit too salty. Which is why the 4 stars. Otherwise great vibes!

Off the menu appetizer with crab.

A great place to dine; friendly staff and great service in a cozy dim light ambience. The food was delicious! We will continue to eat here.

    Oysters!!

Found the perfect spot for date night. Went searching on Yelp for fresh oysters and found this cozy restaurant. The atmosphere is intimate and dark with candlelit tables for two, which I loved. Turns out, they are offering 3 kinds of oysters. My date and I tried one of each type, then proceeded to order a dozen of the ones we liked best. Superb! Craving satisfied! I was excited to see Sturgeon Caviar on the menu, since I hadn't tried it before. They served it atop a blini, or small pancake with a touch of crème fraîche (fancy sour cream). FIREWORKS! New fav! Caviar, much like the oysters, has a delicate taste of the sea. A major part of the experience is its texture. There is a tiny "pop" to the individual eggs that releases a fleeting hint of mild salt and slightly creamy ocean-y aftertaste. We also shared some small plates of fried shrimp with peanut noodles, the Caesar salad and finally the Cioppino (seafood stew) entrée. The look of each of the plates were stunning and the flavors of each were SO delicious that we joked about licking the plates clean, but decided to be civilized instead :) Can't wait to become a regular here, and recommend this spot to our friends. PS: Extensive and surprisingly affordable wine list is offered here, as well as champagne and craft cocktails. We were very taken with 'Inner Dream' Pale Ale by a local Portland brewery (Ruse Brewing).

Is the dress attire business casual?

    Yes

Is it reasonably quiet? We like to converse with friends when we go out to dinner, and most of the restaurants we've been to lately seem very noisy. A friend said Cabezon is reasonably quiet.

I've been there several times and never found it loud. They do have a private room that you can reserve for larger parties. My advice, make reservations usually gets you a nice table. Good luck and you'll love this restaurant

Craving oysters (when did we become these people?!), we stopped in for lunch, ordered a half dozen (and later, another half dozen), plus the Rockfish and Chips, and the Hot and Crispy Fish Sando. Everything was enjoyable: the sando was reminiscent of an upscale Fish Filet (I mean that in a positive way) with a tiny bit of heat; the Rockfish were fried in a salt-and-pepper-y seasoned batter that paired well; and the oysters, of course, were a particular highlight, as previously mentioned, since a second set was ordered to finish off the meal. The only disappointing thing about the whole meal was a rather uninspired spicy Bloody Mary, which didn't really do much for me, sadly. Service was friendly and attentive, and the covered outdoor dining area was spacious, well-lit, and warm enough to be welcoming and comfortable. There's also a secondary covered and fenced dining patio that is dog-friendly, which is another perk! And lastly, the market and bar inside boasts a heaping helping of fresh fish finery coming in many forms: fresh, frozen, 'frigerated, filleted and fried, either served over the counter, or available to-go. Lots of smoked salmon options as well! Very cool place, and one that my wife in particular has fallen in love with. We'll definitely be returning, likely for dinner next time, to see if the menu is expanded with additional options such as scallops, swordfish, steelhead and other seasonal selections.

Dishes can be shared here, and our server suggested a few specialties for us to try. They also have a tasting menu but we opted for picking our own. We started with grilled oysters that were topped with kimchi butter and garlic. It was incredibly flavorful and perfectly grilled. The raw fish came with grilled pineapple and a bold and pungent fish sauce that meshed all the ingredients together cohesively for one sweet and savory dish! Absolutely recommend it! The lobster roll was absolutely delicious with bread that holds the flavors together. Cooked well and no notes here! The start of the evening was absolutely the cedar plank whole branzino. Wow, I have never been more impressed with a fish. Perfectly cooked with juicy, smoked flavors. 12/10 recommend! For dessert, we ordered an earl grey tea ice cream with blackberry, and peach sorbet. We came here because I heard they have a great seafood menu and my kids recently started enjoying oysters and other shellfish that used to be "gross". We got here about 15 minutes to opening on a Friday night and there was already a line. We were fortunate to still get a spot outside which worked out because it wasn't too hot and the outdoor space is much more spread out than inside. We ordered a dozen oysters to start. Love their various droppers with infused mignottes and hot sauces. Really made it fun to try out different combos. We also got the cold smoked mussels, the hamachi crudo, grilled oysters, lobster roll, rockfish, and the little gem salad. In order of least favorite to favorite, the little gem salad was good but just not that memorable or spetqcular the way the other dishes were. Next, the grilled oysters were flavorful with the garlic and lime but I wished there was a little more kimchi flavor and overall more sauce given the size of the oysters (they were huge!). The lobster roll was good and I appreciated the different take on a lobster roll but my favorite lobster rolls that really accentuate the lobster flavor and this masked it a little. The hamachi crudo was a surprise. It's a dish you see a lot and I was a little worried about how the pineapple might overtake the rest of the flavors but that didn't happen. The balance between sweet, savory, sour, and crunch from the peanuts was perfect and every bite was really enjoyable. Finally, my favorite was the cold smoked mussels. You never know how fish sauce and tom kha might overwhelm everything but again, their chef understands flavor balance really well. You could taste all the flavors, the smokiness, the slight bitter and sour umami flavors and slight sweetness to round it out. It was outstanding and highly recommend. They also have great cocktails that go well with their dishes. Really enjoyed the experience here and will definitely come back.

For the price they were charging, it was not a very big portion. Besides that, it just wasn't that good. A good salmon is normally pink to orange. This salmon was barely pink. I couldn't taste the garlic or the Ponzu at all. The veggies were crisp, the rice was a good quality, but there was just no seasoning. The salmon was very bland. I didn't know if it was just because of the seasoning, maybe they used a low quality or a previously, frozen salmon. I love good salmon. This was not good salmon. Oysters took about 25 minutes to arrive, and the rest of the food took even longer. One young bartender was clearly hustling and moving quickly, while others seemed remarkably skilled at ignoring customers. At one point, staff spent 7-10 minutes chatting while several tables were actively trying to get their attention. I'm sure it was work-related, but it was hard not to notice. Especially because the staff at the original Kachka operates at lightning speed -- otherwise that place simply wouldn't function. Also, the music was loud -- I measured over 90 dB while waiting for food, which is way beyond safe noise levels. Overall: a great bar and a welcome addition to the Kachka family, with strong drinks and good food -- but I really wish the staff seemed more engaged.

For two people we paid $150 with tip, and that was without desserts and coffee. Things of note from a Friday night summer visit to this place that's been there four years now: High-end presentation. The plating is top level and each thing they place in front of you is like a sculpture or work of art. Nice energy, not at all too loud. They have acoustic tiles on the ceiling and on the concrete floor added a runner that echos the curve of the large bar, which helps. Portion size looked nice and generous from examples of things we saw being brought to tables, such as the salad and focaccia. Best appetizers were fried cauliflower and the asparagus dish w/ the eggs (which would be even better if warm). The one fish entree is the sablefish (ours was underseasoned) that's brought out on thin piece of cedar with edges still slightly charred. It comes with nothing else on the plate so plan accordingly. Just inside the door they have a little snack/pantry curated market of sorts, where you can linger while waiting for seating and can buy things like a cute little bottle of honey for $20 or a colorful crocheted wall hanging basket for $70. Lots of good natural light because of the walls of floor to ceiling windows. Option of ample seating indoors and outdoors because it's a corner location. Cautionary note: We saw and heard a lunatic in hoodie who, at 6pm on a Friday night, walked up to one of the unoccupied outdoor tables and flipped it over, causing the plates and glasses to fly in the air and shattered, landing in shards next to the elderly couple at the next table who jumped up, her understandably in shock and tears. You walk in, and they have a small shelf with ingredients that they use in their food. Everything is so clean and spacious. You know you're going to walk into an amazing meal. We were seated right away, and the wait staff is incredibly friendly and professional. They are so knowledgeable about the menu and gave great direction and advice. Now on to the food: I was simply blown away! They have a happy hour from 4-6 with $2 oysters! The fish was so clean and cooked to perfection! The leek salad was beautifully dressed and came with the most perfect gooey eggs. But the star of the show was the beans; incredibly tender and in the most amazing southern-style collard greens sauce. Everything was so fresh and different! The meal was simply spectacular! I truly cannot wait to go back and try everything. Chef Tim is simply a GENIUS who clearly cares deeply about his food. Not to mention how kind and generous he is as a human being. Thank you so much for one of the most memorable meals I have had in a VERY long time!!
