Fried Fish--hmmm
Kate O.

Very good value, good portions and extremely nice staff. Food: - seafood bag #1, $32.95, the corn is okay, the sausage is on point, mussels lots of beard, but good, the real star is the shrimp (head on). Super flavorful, lots of head fat and so fresh. The issue was me (as people love this place). I got the Cajun Seasoning, and maybe it's me (of course), it tasted like old dust, and I don't say that lightly--so bad. I ended up cleaning it, and making my own butter and garlic at home, excellent! I'll try another one next time. Fish and chips basket...it's only that cheap for a reason, but for the money a win. Gumbo, same comment. The people though are the best--so welcoming and sweet. Love how they've made the old taco spot into a new place. Will totally try again, worth it.

You can't go wrong with Bag O Crab. We came on a Friday night and on the way joined the waitlist, so when we arrived we were seated right away. Admittedly, I do prefer the interior of the Beaverton location as it is more open and modern on the inside than this location. Our food came out quickly and was also quickly enjoyed. We got the Combo #2 with snow crab legs and shrimp with atomic sauce and a side of lemon pepper fries. Everything was flavorful and the combination is a good amount of food for two people.

Well, I'm say try at your own risk. Seafood wasn't fresh , highly overpriced. No substitute for items . Flavored seasons horrible just garlic and butter no flavor. Definitely was a major disappointment

Went there for a special meal day and was not disappointed. Ambiance was eclectic cuz you can tell the place was a converted Mex restaurant. But there were modern touches like a gigantic TV screen showing underwater scenery & a serving "robot" ( think self-propelled serving cart). Service was nice and the concept was explained well. Basically boiled seafood with choice of spices.....bibs, implements, bucket & wet naps all provided...prepare to get sloppy. We chose Combo #2 with a side of garlic noodle to sop up the tasty seasonings. Just enough food to fill us up and the only leftovers were the sauce in the bag (to make your own "bag O whatever" at home). Neighborhood is dicey but probably safe with semi-enclosed parking lot. All the ingredients tasted fresh and for seafood, the price was reasonable.

This was our first time dining at Bag O' Crab restaurant. I love eating crabs and we recently saw this chain restaurant popping up in cities near us. The picture that shows a robot serving the customers sounds cool. My husband and I decided that we have to try it out. The decor inside was okay. It was not bad, just simple which is fine by us as long as the food was good. We ended up ordering combo 2 and an extra side order of garlic noodle to share. The garlic noodle was good but we ended up using the noodle to soak up the juice of the bag. It was perfect. For the combo we ordered medium level atomic sauce which is a combination of original Cajun, garlic sauce and lemon pepper. I can definitely go up in spice level but medium was too spicy for my husband. Combo 2 bag came with two clusters of crab legs, 3/4 lb of headless shrimp, 2 half ears of corn, 4 small slices of sausage and 2 small red potatoes. The robot delivered the food to us but our waiter put the dishes onto our table. It was a cool experience but it was a bit weird. All in all, the food was delicious and we will definitely go back and dine there again.

My friend was craving this place, so I decided to join along and see why. Now I understand. We were greeted right away and seated without much of a wait. I ordered Combo #2, which came with crab, potatoes, corn cobs, sausages, and shrimp (with the option of head-on or no head). I really liked how they let you choose your spice level and they have variety of different sauce. They prepared for us before the food arrive by giving us a bucket, gloves, wipes, and a bib, plus tools to eat the food with. Hope i didnt forget anything else. The atmosphere was acceptable but the most important is cleanliness if anything which is was clean. But all I care about is the food lol. Anyways our food came out quickly, and the coolest part is that a robot delivered it to our table with the assistance of the friendly waitress! Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. My friend and I left very pleased and happy. I'd definitely come back again!

There is plenty of parking space and a few designated handicap locations. The service was excellent and our waitress was very attentive. She guided us on the menu and provided recommendations based on our questions. They have 3 different sauces to choose from and you can mix and match, which was great. You can adjust the spice level as well. There is a robot that brings your food to your table and also will sing you happy birthday if you're celebrating. The establishment was clean and tidy. The food was delicious and packed with flavor. I truly enjoyed everything we ordered. I can't wait to go back and eat more. Definitely go check it out, cheers!

Came hungry and was very pleased. It was very busy and a little bit of a wait. Not pictured are the garlic noodles which were very good. We got the sauce where it's 3 sauces mixed together and it was great. Service was very fast

My niece loves seafood so we decided to try Bag O Crab! We didn't make a reservation and it was a Saturday at 1:00pm. We ended up waiting about 40 minutes as there were 6 of us in our party. There was a bench near the entrance and chairs near the bathrooms - there were plenty of people waiting. They do take reservations - we just didn't make any, took our chances so we were fine with waiting. The parking lot is a little small and it was full, so I parked on the street. The staff was helpful and courteous. The food was served quickly. We ordered a seafood boil, short rib, clam chowder, lobster roll/fries and a shrimp basket. The star of the show is the seafood boil - hands down! Served piping hot and very flavorful. There are so many spice options and add ons-impressive! A very fun mural in the entry and robots that serve the food.

My father keeps wanting to come here when he comes to Portland so I finally did it. I'm so glad we did, it was awesome. I'm not one who is fan of messy but sometimes you gotta do it. The staff is really very attentive. Everything from taking orders to bringing out extra gloves was done was ease and efficiency. You're gonna need the extra gloves. We ordered two combos of various crab boils. My husband had the fish and my son had straight up crab legs because he's not a fan of the other items in the combo. We got the medium spice atomic sauce and it was pretty hot. Glad I didn't go for full on hot. The food came out fast, fresh and so full of delicious flavor. Two people can eat plenty of the combo and order rice because you're gonna want to sop up that delicious sauce! Ordered a bit too much but now my father will be happy that he finally got his crab boil! Would go here again, the experience was great and the food was delicious. Did I mention they have a robot waiter? They do!

Lemon pepper fries
Naly S.

It's pretty busy at night! The parking is full and requires you to park in the neighborhood and walk a bit to the restaurant. There's music playing overhead. I thought the service was alright. I had to ask a few times for rice, but I think it was also because we were seated more on the side of the bar vs the main eating area so we were slightly tucked away from sight. We got the lemon pepper fries and the sweet potato fries. The lemon pepper was suuuper lemony. It wasn't bad with the boil but by itself was too strong. The sweet potato fries were fantastic, though! My boil was good I got the combination of sauces, which was the perfect umami style of a seafood boil. The shrimp with head on were tasty and huge, wish the whiskers were cut shorter though, and that the potato chunks were cut into quarters or halves.

You can absolutely smell the fish and vinegar as soon as you walk through the door, which I think gives the place a very homey pub feel. I ordered a spiked peach Arnold Palmer, which I enjoyed (and it was pleasantly strong) and a glass of the house white, which was good for the price. Our server was very fast and attentive. To eat I got the tomato soup with a grilled cheese, which was absolutely fantastic. The soup was so creamy and flavorful, and I cannot imagine a better meal after spending all day walking outside in the rain. The fries were super crispy and I liked the batter. My partner and I shared some of their breadsticks, which were deliciously baked (fresh!) and came with a super refreshing basil crema and a nice tomato-y dip. Wonderful all. My partner ordered fish and chips, and was surprised to find that it is one large fillet of fish, not multiple pieces like you would typically expect. He said the fish was fine, but a little tough. Overall, a wonderful experience. I definitely hope to return. I highly recommend this place as a refuge during the cold winter months!

It made the whole evening feel special and relaxing. The food was amazing fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Everything we ordered exceeded expectations. A huge shoutout to our waitress, Nancy! She was so kind, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. We can be a little picky with our food, and she went above and beyond to help customize our entrées so they were exactly how we like them. She made us feel completely taken care of without ever making us feel like we were being difficult. Between the beautiful view, exceptional service, and fantastic food, this place is a must-visit.

We intentionally did not intervene immediately, as we are working on teaching her to communicate without reinforcing whining. During that short time, multiple guests began making comments toward us, including telling us to "do something" and calling us "the worst parents." The situation escalated when one woman followed us as we were leaving, recording us and yelling in our faces. What's most concerning is that the restaurant did not intervene in any meaningful way. Instead of addressing the guests who were harassing us, we were asked if we wanted to move tables. Our server was kind and tried to help, but the lack of management response in a situation that clearly crossed into harassment was unacceptable. I left feeling shaken and unsafe. I would not recommend this restaurant for families.

Stopped in for our 4th or 5th visit to celebrate my wife's birthday last Friday night April 17th…read more.. The Cove has always been a great choice in the past for special dinners/occasions. Unfortunately this time, we left very disappointed. My wife has a sensitivity to spicy foods. Upon ordering appetizers for the table, we asked if any of them (that had a spicy description on the menu) had the option to have the sauce on the side. She proceeded to ask how the scallops were and went ahead with that order. There was absolutely no description of having any spicy component on the menu nor any mention by the server. Upon her first bite of the risotto, she went into a severe coughing fit :( I tasted it and acknowledged how spicy it was. She proceeded to just eat the scallops. We were mostly done when the waiter came to check on us ... My wife asked if the dish is typically spicy. Response was "oh yes" ... It was completely lost on us why he wouldn't have mentioned that to her upon ordering knowing how she questioned the appetizers. His offer at this point was a new meal .. which was nice but we were mostly done. There really wasn't much in the way of sincerity beyond that. It seems the right thing to have done was offer my wife (celebrating her birthday) who didn't enjoy her meal ... maybe a comp'd drink or maybe a dessert (no acknowledgment of her birthday at all. When you spend north of $300 ... Disappointing to say the least. Upon leaving, I decided to just express my concern to the hostess and suggested adding the spice level of this specific entree to the menu. I reaffirmed my wife didn't get to fully enjoy her meal. I received a lukewarm "thanks for letting us know." The worst part of the whole experience was a manager/owner type was a few steps behind her, made eye contact and was fully aware i had an issue and made absolutely no attempt to come over and address the complaint. I no longer blame the waiter for his lack of concern knowing it flows from the top. We all go out and spend top dollar at nice restaurants for good food but also, for service and the experience. The restaurant has been opened awhile and maybe is established enough where this isn't as much of a priority as it was early on. In contrast, we went out the night before to a more established fave restaurant of ours in Portland (Ava Genes). Had an incredible meal, incredible experience, and uber attentive service. They even went the extra mile and made a big deal that we chose them to celebrate. Ended our evening with a simple complimentary scoop of gelato/candle. It was a nice touch. Certainly didn't mind spending the $$$ for that evening. I wouldn't dissuade anyone from trying The Cove if they've never been (I'm hopeful they just had a bad night) ... but there are so many good choices out there, it will most certainly make us think twice before going back.
