Well, me and the crew finished a long day of field location work and it's time for dinner. We didn't feel like a real sit down and be served place, just somewhere to get dinner and head back to the hotel and rest up for the next day. I saw this Chinese buffet called Super King Buffet. I've been to other "King Buffets", but this I think I like a common name, so I don't think they're connected. With a buffet everybody gets what they want and keep them all happy, so I'm happy. Plenty of parking here and it wasn't too had to find. We get seated fine and drinks orders taken. This look like a little bigger buffet than some we've been to. Lot of different seafood options for dinner. They even have crawdads. Too much work for too little meat in my opinion, but that's just me. Inside is decently clean and the buffet lines are not all messed up by rude customers like I've seen other places. We all got our fill and were in and out in less than an hour. Waitstaff were great. They were attentive and even accommodated an unreasonable request. (Our party had a couple of disabled seniors. We asked for some wet towels to clean their hands. The staff provided them with a smile.) Wonderful staffs. We left a good tip for their services. On the other hand, the food was very poor. Yes, there was a great selection, but the quality was generally bad. We were seated at around 11:50 AM on a Friday. They were open for less than an hour, yet the tuna sashimi was dried, turning brown on the edges; the avocado in the roll was mushy; the fried chicken was smelly, as if they were reheated old chicken; the sesame balls were dry and leathery; too many issues with other food as well. It's unusual to see a restaurant selling fresh produce at the front counter, there was some English cucumbers, apples, and broccoli for sale. We were lead to our table immediately after we entered the restaurant. The entrees had been sitting on the steam tables for some time. The sushi selection was small but adequate, I didn't want try any of the temaki, don't know how long it's been sitting there. Overall - One of the few buffets on the east side of Portland that focuses mainly on Asian cuisine. It's a solid option if you're in the area and want variety, but I'd keep expectations reasonable. Location - The location is pretty central--less than 20 minutes from Happy Valley and right off I-205. They have a private parking lot with plenty of space, and there's a large supermarket within walking distance. Food - If you're craving a variety of Asian dishes, mostly Chinese, this place will hit the spot--but don't expect to be blown away. I usually try to get my money's worth at buffets by starting with sushi, but it was disappointing here. Even though the tray was set on ice, the sushi was already at room temperature, so it had clearly been sitting out for a while. Service/Ambiance - Out of the main buffet spots on the east side, this one stands out for its service. They clear empty plates quickly and actually keep your water refilled. This buffet has a decent seafood selection however some things seemed to have overcooked and hardened. I was excited to see they offered Dungeness crab but the crab meat was oddly dry. The sesame balls were hard as well. I'm not sure if it was because I came on a Thursday for a late lunch and the food had been sitting out for a long time and the heating elements dried them out or not. Kind of a guilty pleasure, over-eating seafood, seafood not the cleanest industry, labor-wise especially. Still some occasional fun. Used to be separate prices for lunch & dinner, with some items only coming out for dinner. so instead of 16 it's $22. nice to have some raw & broiled oysters, fairly big shrimp, wide selection. Though this time a little more conscious of the meh quality of some of the items, like the salmon and the ribs. oh well. Probably my last time. I've seen this buffet on 82nd for years, but always passed it due to other reviews. But I would like to say this was the best buffet I've ever been to. Not only was the service incredible, but the variety of food and the quality was top tier. It has an old homey like vibe and no bright lights which I loved. The dessert selection was slim, they only really soft serve vanilla and chocolate, but they also have a wide variety of fresh fruit! I am already looking forward to going back again! (long review warning) I wanted to find a Chinese buffet in the area like ones we found in Arizona before Covid. We have tried a couple in Salem, and they are decent. But the local establishments created a desire to expect more. Because of the other reviews of Super King Buffet, I wanted to find out for myself if the negative /positive reviews aligned with my taste preferences and expectations. The appearance of the building outside is unremarkable. Inside, the place is extremely clean. Our server provided a table and our drinks quickly. Looking around, the empty tables were clean along with the floor of the establishment. A diverse culture of people was in attendance enjoying their meals, piled high with shrimp, open face clams, or crab. Others took a moderate approach, with a medium amount of food on their plate, but returned to the buffet line multiple times. I would suggest that before rushing off to the buffet selections, grabbing a plate and maxing out the square footage the plate can handle, just walk slowly up and down the many food stations and soak in the large variety of food options. There were 6 main stations. An additional two or three stations had fish on ice, and sushi. Dessert options: I do not remember other that my wife getting the soft served ice cream. They offer coffee, tea, and Pepsi products. The restaurant was busy, but the food options were always replenished, and the serving areas were kept extremely clean. I was amazed at the selection options. Other buffet restaurants may have a decent seafood selection but miss enough variety if one does not want seafood or other items not offered. But the selection also needs to taste according to one's expectation. I was pleased with all that I consumed. The hot food items were hot. The cold items were cold. The noodles and rice options met expectations of good Chinese buffets. Spring rolls were hot inside and crunchy outside and tasty. All the deep-fried foods I tried such as the butterfly shrimp, sweet/sour chicken, and crab wontons did not have any old oil after taste. This was a pleasant surprise. However, there were some disappointments in our food selections that night. For my taste (personal preferences), I disliked the coating on the chicken legs compared to other Chinese buffet restaurants. It seemed like they used the same coating they used on the fried fish. Then the salmon was dry. This is a problem at more than one restaurant; we have visited beyond a Chinese buffet environment. Good news is that all the shrimp selections are well cooked, not over cooked. Refills for our drinks and removing our used plates were faster than expected. My wife and I could not sample every item with just one visit, but we ate our usual favorites and except for the few discrepancies, we were incredibly pleased with this establishment. They even had crab crackers, which made things super easy. There were lots of hot food options too, and I especially liked the shu mai. My family and I were deeply disappointed with the service, courtesy, sanitation, and other serious flaws during our visit. I'm generally not a negative reviewer. However, this occasion warrants a unfortunately negative assessment. The anticipation of a positive experience was quashed from the onset. The personnel stationed as the beginning of the experience were abrupt, curt, and vague. As my family and I proceeded to the actual food offerings, we were immediately confronted with unacceptable levels of failure in hygiene, and apathetic responses when they were challenged. Last night after service I decided to take my family to eat here. It's been one of my wife's favorite places for years. I'm guessing they're under new ownership again and last night the food said it. The peanut chicken was cold, not even warm. The coconut shrimp (my favorite) tasted nasty. Actually pretty impressed with the options here. The smell as you walk in was a little overwhelming but the food was pretty good. The glass noodles were my favorite! They had a pretty big variety for all tastes. Our waiter never checked on us and I never got my Pepsi but overall, we were happy with the food and offerings. I walk into this restaurant with my friend and I think Gordon Ramsay kitchen nightmare. The food in the buffet was spoiling and some of it was overcooked. The presentation was terrible. I think if the health department came in at the time when I was there with my friend, they probably would've got cited. The service was nice, but I was shocked there were so many people going into the business. Honestly, I don't think I ever want to go back there unless I want to go back there to torture myself to see if I could get food poisoning. The blueberries were rotting in the blueberry tray and I just did not think that whoever wasn't charged cared about the business. It was an awful shame because there was so many varieties of food, and the muscles tasted old like they have been sitting for a very long time in a cooler. There were a few things that were delicious. I liked the whole cooked prawns and there was some eel sushi that tasted good. The person who greeted us was very nice. I came here for lunch with a group of 7. It wasn't too busy for lunch on a weekday, but there definitely were people there. Food continuously got rotated and new food kept coming out. There's a variety of different dishes, from Chinese to American dishes, seafood options and sushi, there's a salad bar, soup, dessert and fruit too. Just a little bit of everything. There's nothing special about this buffet, but definitely more affordable than most places for buffets. I see why this place is popular for folks, but I wouldn't say it's amazing. DO NOT COME HERE! this place is disgusting! Me my dad and my sister went here a few nights ago and I was so grossed out I stayed up all night thinking about it. There was mold on the carpet and the food was not prepared correctly at all. Food spilling into other trays and everything tasted stale or rubbery, like it had been sitting out. Even the employees were gross. None of them were wearing gloves or hairnets and our server burped when she was giving us our drinks. Also not to mention the bathroom was somehow wet on every surface, walls, floor, toilet, counter, toilet paper dispenser, YOU NAME IT! Disgusting. BEASTED! For only $16.99 I would definitely say this place is worth it. Tons of options here and everything was constantly being refilled and refreshed. Some of our favorites were the krab rangoons, sushi, vegetable lo mein, rice noodles, orange chicken, tilapia (bony), duck, kimchi and steamed vegetables. We tried a bunch of different items but those were the ones we kept going back for. Service was great too everyone was friendly. As for inside I wish there were windows in the dining room, for more ambiance but there was a koi pond right when you walk in so that was cool to see. Overall, we would recommend. It had been at least 5-6 years since my last visit and I'd been wanting to revisit this place recently. Maybe I came on the wrong day or they have been like this for a long time because the food was very disappointing. I remember it used to be better than this. I looked at my photos from the past and it is true. First of all, they had way too many chicken dishes that day. The broccoli beef-looking dish was broccoli chicken. The roasted duck-looking dish was roasted chicken. Coconut shrimp? No, it was coconut chicken. Not to forget their BBQ chicken, mushroom chicken, General Tso's chicken, sweet and sour chicken, fried chicken wing, chicken skewer, etc. If my memory serves me right, there was also honey chicken minus walnut. Nothing against chicken, but can you at least do broccoli beef instead of chicken? Can't help but think this is their cost-cutting strategy to use chicken for everything including things that do not normally go with chicken. The sushi section looked pretty sad and unappetizing and I wouldn't want to touch that. Out of everything I tried, I only enjoyed the chicken skewer. Fast service. Ambiance was very dim like before. Ya know this place wasn't bad at all. I'm actually surprised it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be, especially for a weekend lunch. Maybe they're busier at night. We got there right when it opened and so did a bunch of other folks. We were seated right away and our drink orders were immediately taken. Neat place. As you walk in, you walk between two water features. And yes, there were fish in there. We sat bear the food so my mom didn't have to walk too far. There was a lot of seating. It's a pretty big place. And hot food kept coming out which is a great sign. They had some items which I typically don't see at buffets. They had like this chicken katsu, but with peanut sauce instead. That was pretty good. And their short ribs had tons of meat on them and witj great flavor. This place closed down for years during Covid and not only survived but remade their menu and atmosphere. They refocused on quality ingredients and all new recipes. Food is fresh and not overcooked. The fruit at the fruit bar was fully ripened and delicious. They really doubled down and improved their recipes. I'm actually surprised by the creativity of some dishes lately. If you're looking for a good local no frills spot, give this place a try. Everyone round here knows Super King is a good family or buddy hang. If you're a fan of all you can eat, Chinese buffets, you may like this one. We've tried a number of different ones in Portland and think this is probably one of the better ones. We've eaten here several times without getting food poisoning. They have a very wide varieties of foods here. The food doesn't score many points for taste, but they do have a lot of different dishes. We went for lunch on a weekend and found crab, shrimp, oysters, mussels and a number of different chicken, beef and pork dishes. They had a section with Japanese dishes including sushi and sashimi. There were about five different Chinese style soups. It was very crowded. This is a good sign because it keep the food turnover high and reduces the risk of eating food that sits out for too long. We watched as one plate of sliced raw tuna was taken by different guests. It took about an hour. On our last visit, they had two varieties of dragonfruit. Although it wasn't very ripe or flavorful, it was novel to see it at a restaurant. We're not huge fans of this type of dining. We'll definitely be back, but only because we'll be dragged there by relatives who love all you can eat Chinese buffets. When forced to choose, this is the one we recommend. read more

Two years ago we had a great seafood buffet, fast forward to june 2025 the seafood has a lot to be desired. The crab meat was dry, cold oysters on the shell, no salmon without some type of rub or sauce, the breading on the oysters too thick. And last but not least was the price, $130.00 dinner.
