Among the many Japanese restaurants in Portland, I walked into Bamboo Sushi simply because I had a feeling it would impress me. It might sound a little corny, but it truly did. The service was super friendly; from the moment I walked in, I felt genuinely welcomed. It happened to be happy hour, which made me even happier with the unexpected attention and cheerful atmosphere. Beyond the happy hour items, the spicy salmon tartare and seared salmon with minted salad were both outstanding. The chef behind the sushi counter even prepared a special sashimi for me, king salmon paired with yellowtail. The rich, buttery salmon balanced perfectly with the delicate flavor of the yellowtail; each piece was fresh and melted in my mouth. The avocado crispy rice was a clever fusion piece that brought back memories of the fried rice cakes from my childhood breakfasts, beautifully done. And for dessert, after much debate, I went with the coconut cream with dark chocolate ganache. It was a little heavy, but absolutely worth it -- creamy, nutty, and indulgent enough to make me happily break my "no-dessert Sunday" rule. Delicious food, great service, and a warm vibe, highly recommended!

I'm not much of a sushi girl. The menu had a lot of not sushi options but none super compelling. I wish there was udon or a noddle of some sort for people like me. I ordered the salmon and a side of rice. I am so glad I got the side of rice. The salmon was very small. It was grilled very well but also lacked flavor. There was a surrounding sauce to compensate but I honestly don't like sauces with a creamy base. After everything I paid $38 for a small piece of salmon and rice. It was pretty disappointing honestly. I know that the kitchen and culinary expertise is up there but the flavors and execution just aren't for me. I visited for a friends birthday so I didn't have much of a choice. It's very nice and clean inside and the staff is super nice and helpful. I just wish there was more substantial options for someone who doesn't like raw fish.

I had a really pleasant experience at Bamboo sushi. The atmosphere was very clean, quant and intimate. Even though it was busy, the restaurant didn't feel crowded or too tight. My friend and I sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and welcoming. She checked in enough to feel noticed but not hovering either. The sushi and burger was delciious. I thought even though a spicy tuna roll is pretty common option on a menu, the overall presentation and taste was the best I've had. I would definitreyl come back for a main entree opton to see their diverse talents!

Atmosphere: Nice atmosphere, including some outdoor tables for when the weather is nice. Food: We loved the majority of the food, except my dad found the octopus way too tough. Price: For the quality of sushi, I find the prices to be reasonable. It's not cheap, but the price matches what you get IMO. Service: Excellent service. Our server was extremely personable and helpful. He took note when my dad complained about the octopus and had it removed from our bill and made me feel valued on my birthday. Parking: Street parking. Parking can be a bit tight in this area, but it's Portland so you can still find it.

Always a good time at bamboo Sushi. I love the sustainability of the fish and only offering good for the ocean types fish. Sometimes the offerings are a bit too weird tasting though. Got the serves 4-6 middle option chefs choice and the green machine was good but some of the rolls were a bit weird. Including the crispy rice fish sushi I was warned that I probably wouldn't like, as my BILand sis didn't like it before and yup. I didn't like it either. Maybe I didn't like the eel sauce style drizzled over it but it was just a bit too much of something over fishy. I'm always happy and full leaving bamboo. Was super busy so we couldn't get our usual reservation on 23rd next to Salt n Straw so we had to drive over there and get our fix of ice cream next for the littles. lol

We had a party of about 14 and our server did a great job managing all of us. We ordered a Kazoku and a few of their signature rolls. Everything came out fresh and pretty quick. They're going to tell you that the Green Machine is what people rave about and they are not messing around about that. It was absolutely delish and probably the best thing I had off that whole board. We also had some kind of cauliflower. That was so good that you couldn't even tell it was cauliflower.

Hey here again in oregon!! This place was amazing! Service was a 5 star I loved the team work and the knowledge these servers had. I used to run restaurants and i would hire this staff!! Not one bad thing I can say about our waitress or her team mates. They work hand in hand making you feel comfortable and catered to. Love the ambiance so kinda romantic I can see going on a date here, or having great conversations ok im rambling. Also clean I love how clean it was and the view of the city street. The food worth it. Worth coming downtown, worth the money it was fresh and creative and beautiful not to mention delicious. Is it oregon I love or the food? Both. I will have to revisit!

During our visit at the Japanese Garden a couple of weeks ago, our tour guide recommended that we try Bamboo Sushi. We were staying in Downtown & there was a convenient location close by. Upon arrival, we immediately noticed how clean and organized they were. They greeted us and seated us right away. Our waiter was Collin and he was amazing. Super energetic, attentive, and made good recommendations. We were there during happy hour (good amount of selection) so we ordered a few things for the table as well as a couple plates of sushi. The miso soup was reaaaally good! The menu is pretty modernized and has different flavors than most traditional sushi spots. Different, but good!! Definitely worth a try

[gluten free reviewer] Bamboo doubles as a favorite happy hour spot & is always my favorite place to celebrate a special occasion with my partner. Having a hard time deciding on a roll? The green machine and unicorn rolls never get old. Top it off with an order of the citrus salted king salmon nigiri - it might be the best thing you taste... ever. Dessert option that slaps: black sesame brownie. The servers at all locations are always so kind and seem like they enjoy their job. We have always had a pleasant experience no matter the location we visit. The ambiance tends to be chill, relaxed, and easy to have a conversation in. Plus! Their cocktails and sake selection are the icing on the cake. If you think bamboo is mainstream and not legit or don't trust it because it's a chain, my recommendation is to at least give it a chance because you'll likely be converted into a repeat customer immediately!!!

Consistent and great taste usually. Green machine is my favorite, always stands out. Even karage chicken is pretty good. Service is fast and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. It's our go to restaurant but I always feel the quantity is quite less for the price specially. We ordered thru GrubHub and also a take out, the sushi pieces were very less.

Had an amazing sushi happy hour date for two in downtown, and everything from the ambiance to the service was top-tier! The setting was beautiful and relaxing, and both the hostess and bartender were fantastic! Here's what we tried: Wagyu Sliders - Caramelized onion, Tillamook white cheddar, and momji aioli on a buttery brioche bun. Crispy Chicken Nugs - Served with wasabi honey, crispy fresnos, and furikake--a perfect mix of crunch and flavor! Green Machine Roll (V) - A tempura-fried green bean roll with avocado, green onion, cilantro, and sweet chili aioli. Hand Roll Trio - Spicy tuna, spicy albacore, and spicy salmon. All fresh and delicious! For cocktails, Davy Jones' Locker - A dreamy blend of white rum, ube, coconut, lime, and ginger beer. Everything was flavorful and well-balanced, and the happy hour made it even better! Definitely recommend this spot for sushi and cocktails. Can't wait to go back!

Everything was amazing! The bartender knew his stuff about drinks and sushi. He made some great suggestions and we went with it. There was nothing to complain about. Food was soooo good and it was happy hour!

This was recommended to me as a delicious sushi place in downtown Portland and it did not disappoint! First off, when we walked in, we were hit by an appetizing smell that we couldn't figure out what it was. After being seated and chatting with the waiter, it turns out it was their genmaicha tea - calling all green tea lovers, order this! I started off with some miso soup as it was a chilly day and oh my, was the food delicious! I recommend the Tofu Agedashi as it had such a light tempura texture that we could have been fooled if you told us it wasn't tempura. Vegetarians and meat eaters will both love this. We had a winning combination of orders including the Sunset (crab and spicy tuna), Garden of Eden (spicy albacore and seared tuna), and Bamboo Dragon (shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, seasoned crab). It's pretty affordable for quality sushi, so definitely come here and make sure to get here early as it fills up fast.

I was looking for food nearby and came across this restaurant. The food was surprisingly delicious! We ordered the chicken katsu curry, kama-age udon (hokkai miso soup), and the kama-meshi seafood. The chicken katsu was cooked perfectly: crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside! The sauce also was the perfect texture and taste. My favorite was the kama-age udon with the hokkai miso soup. I love udon but sometimes don't like how thick it is because it fills you up faster and is harder to digest, the udon here is thinner which I fell in love with! It's soft and chewy and the perfect thickness: you dip it on the soup when you eat it. I also loved the soup, I usually have leftover soup when eat noodles, but I finished every last sip! Definitely recommend this dish if you were to only order one item! We also ordered the kama-meshi seafood. I thought this one tasted okay! The flavors of the seafood come through, but I personally like stronger and heavier flavors. It was worth a try! Parking: This restaurant is in downtown portland so it was difficult to find parking. We ended up parking at a nearby garage and paid for parking. They do have a few street parking spots near the restaurant if you want to test your luck! Seating and service: We were seated really quickly as we went on a weekday! They have several tables and a large table that can be reserved as well as bar spots. The restaurant overall looks really nice and is pretty spacious. The servers were really nice and fast to get you what you need! A side note: they have heated toilet seats in their restroom so that's always a plus!
