Chicken Fried Rice without the chicken
F Z.

YIKES. wokca-NO!!!!! What on earth happened to this location. Terrible service, pathetic food. See photo below of Chicken Fried Rice with BITS, CRUMBS of chicken. I go to the Valencia location often and I used to come to the Burbank location a lot. I haven't been here in a while and I'm glad I haven't. You'll find more protein in fast food Chinese dishes and better service. AVOID THIS LOCATION!

Came in on a Thursday afternoon for lunch with a couple of coworkers. It was a pleasant experience. Good was good, service was good. We sat ourselves near the bar area. Please note their booths and tables mostly seem to be very tall, I'm sure they had more accessible seating options in the main dining room, but I didnt see from where we were sitting. I ordered the lunch time Mongolian beef with white rice, and my coworkers both ordered the kung pao chicken. It was good and for a sit down restaurant, the prices weren't horrible, keep in mind we did order from the lunch time menu. The food came out fairly quickly, first with the salad starter that comes with the lunch special. Not sure how often I will be back, but I did enjoy my experience.

Family Dinner Value Meal for 2: Mongolian beef & Walnut shrimp.

Family Dinner Value Meal for 2 was a great combo. We got the Mongolian beef and Walnut shrimp. Egg rolls were light and tasty. Everything is carefully packaged for delivery to avoid spilling or broken bottles. Fresh vegetables with every dish. Will definitely order again.

*Delayed post from Jan '25 Stopped here for a late night bite around 11pm since most restaurants are closed by then in Downtown Burbank. The decor gave me Cheesecake Factory vibes and the quality of food was about the same: consistently okay and satisfies everyone's cravings with a large menu, but not a place I'd take someone to impress them. It's slightly above mediocre. Our server was very cheery and our food came out quickly, with quite large portions. Not sure I'll personally stop by again since there's nothing special about their meals, but I see the appeal for families and large groups. It's affordable and has a decent atmosphere, but don't expect to have the best Chinese food of your life.

Chow Fun (with Raw meat)

Decided to order a late night dinner, which arrived within 15 minutes of ordering. I took a bite and noticed the meat was completely raw - it was literally purple. We had to throw everything away; I also ended up getting sick from it; horrible food. Be aware!

Beef with Broccoli

First time for me at this location. All my years in Burbank and I have never been to Wokcano. The service was excellent. The staff was on it! The rice was delicious. The orange chicken was not sweet which was different than other orange chicken dishes I have had in the past. The beef and broccoli had lots of meat which was large size portions. The ambiance was nice and quiet which is nice.

Pad Thai & Volcano Roll

We're from the Central Valley but always make a stop here when we can. We discovered it during COVID and the service was always impeccable. The inside of the restaurant is dimly lit and they always have good music playing. The food is always why I keep coming back. Portions are a good size. The miso has great flavor but could be a little hotter, or warm up the bowl prior to serving to keep it warm. Just a suggestion. ‍

It is amazing food amazing stuff, what's your name it's Jose Jose making fantastic cocktails I like Leche martini,

Garlic Noodles with Parmesan Cheese

I've been to this location a couple times now. It's pretty good. They're pretty sufficient with their service, especially when it's not super crowded. They have large tables available, booth seating, high tables, and the bar. Happy hour is available. Their food is good. Their honey walnut shrimp & garlic noodles are the best! We had an issue with one of the drinks at first, but it was resolved and everything was good. A while back a friend of mine had his bday here, and we brought him a cake, and they let us keep it in their refrigerator until we were ready to sing happy bday.

I typically go for dinner or happy hour but this time tried lunch at the Burbank location. We had the lunch menu and everything was under $20 and comes with a big bowl of salad with Japanese dressing (my favorite), cup of rice and big bowl of the fish filet and asparagus which I had for dinner as well for the servings were big. My friend had the honey garlic shrimp which she said was delicious also. Not a big lunch crowd - service was solid. I just hope this one doesn't close like the Gordon Biersch across the street for I enjoy Wokcano's dishes - never been disappointed whether I order sushi or cooked dishes in any location. Plenty of 2 hour public parking and also street parking.

The bill

I used to like this place, but lately it's been hit or miss (mostly miss). Recently, I had friends coming over and decided to place a pickup order from Wokano. Imagine my surprise when I saw a $20 "packing fee" on the bill. When I asked about it, I was told that because my order was big, I was being charged extra. How generous. Instead of appreciating a $318.54 order or even pretending to value the business, they decided to penalize it. Lesson learned. Next time, I'll happily spend my money elsewhere, far away from this mediocre restaurant. Farewell, Wokano.

The peacock roll was beautiful but looked better than it tasted.

We had two separate servers because one went home during the middle of our dinner and both were equally horrible. Not even exaggerating when I say we waited at least 15 minutes after we asked for the check and there were probably only 10 tables in the entire restaurant. And we had to call her back over to ask for a second time. SMH. The food although flavorful was so ridiculously priced it was not even funny. I got a "ribeye ". Was literally eight thin slices of steak, like 1" x 1" size for $42! No, I will not be coming back here for so many reasons. The view is great. Castaways is definitely not what it used to be in the way of quality but at least you get more and you get the view. But definitely not worth it going to this place. It was quite a frustrating evening. Also, if you do decide to go here, just bring a coat when it's a little bit cooler in the evenings cause it does get cold up here and getting the staff to manage the heaters correctly is a whole other frustration. Oh, and valet is your only option for parking up here. It's kind of crazy because a few years ago you could just go park in the lot or the garage that's available there but now they're charging you $11 and it's chaos. I will say that the view up here is great though so if you're willing to forgo all of that for a view for like a one time date or something like that, it might be worth it

I fell in love before i even saw the menu. Now don't even get me started on that world class water. Best water I've ever consumed. Perfectly cold and delectably drinkable. It was FANTASTIC. Our server, Isaiah, was absolutely amazing and on top of things, refilling our water before we even hit half glass. Not to mention his energy and vibe was so welcoming and fun. We got the PuPu platter for two, came out within minutes, I could spend the rest of my life eating that alone. Isaiah recommended his favorite sauces, Garlic Chive and Chipotle Citrus, they were amazing. We got the shrimp and lobster roll, I officially entered heaven. The Isles of Club sandwich was the finishing touch that had me laughing from joy. Near the end of our dining we meant Max, another server, who is absolutely fantastic, brought us everything we needed, boxes, sauce containers, bags, to-go dessert. His energy was also amazing and super fun. Now some extra things to note: -I'm not a big mac salad girly, but holy moly guacamole i loved their Mac salad. -anything tempura/fried in this place is heaven itself -their fries are perfect -the vibe is beyond life you might start crying in joy -be ready to want to buy everything on the menu and then some -I downloaded yelp just to leave this review Overall, Broken Compass Tiki is the perfect place for everyone. Broken Compass Tiki is a pirate themed tiki bar in Burbank…read more They don't having a parking lot, but it was very easy to find street parking just around the corner on a Sunday afternoon. The front of the building is a little vaguely marked, and the entrance has speakeasy vibes, which was a surprise. Upon walking in the front door, there is some tiki décor and a small counter in the rear. I remember thinking to myself "what the heck, this is it?". I checked in at the host stand on the left, and was handed me a boarding pass. She then led us through a hidden door behind what looked like a shipping crate. We were now in the real Broken Compass. The interior is a good size. The two-sided bar seats around a dozen. There is a lounge side of the bar that has two large booths along the wall, and another area with comfortable looking couches and lounge chairs. The main dining room has some tiki hut booths, and two sections of tables with half booth and half chair. The décor is pretty extensive with a good mix of pirate, nautical, and tiki themes. There is a lot of bamboo, thatch, rope, cargo netting, skulls and skeletons, port holes, octopus tentacles, jellyfish, tiki lights, and more. The ceiling is dark with various nautical and pirate markings, and even tied up ship sails overhead. The tiki hut booths have the parrots from the enchanted tiki room above them. Even the two restrooms are nautical themed, with beach and marine sounds playing. There is a lot of great décor to look at. We arrived around 2pm on a Sunday, so it wasn't very busy yet. By the time we left a few hours later, it was starting to get busy. We decided to sit at the bar. We started out with the buffalo cauliflower ($14) for an afternoon snack. The serving size was generous, and the buffalo sauce had a good tang. It was served with some sauces, and was surprisingly filling. A nice feature of the cocktail menu is that each drink displays one to three compass stars to indicate the strength of the drink. Their cocktails use a great variety of liquors including ones you don't often see. Many of the ingredients are made in-house. I started out with Chupacabra's Vacation (Demerara Rum, Jamacian Rum, Pomegranate Reduction, Cinnamon, Lime Juice, Bitters, two-star boozy rank, $17). It is served with a flaming lime on top and a little fire show. It was balanced with a light booziness, some light pomegranate flavor, and a cinnamon sprinkle on top. She started out with the Bittersweet Paradise (Jamacian Rum, White Rum, Campari, Passionfruit Syrup, Lemon, Lime, Pineapple, two-star boozy rank, $18). It didn't drink boozy at all, and was passion fruit forward, with light bitterness. My second cocktail was the Bermuda Dune Buggy (Gin, Overproof Rum, Kumquat Liqueur, Cassis, Orange, Lime, Bitters, two-star boozy rank, $18). It had a very unique garnish of a Chartreuse infused gummy which was delicious. The drink was nicely balanced, and didn't really drink boozy even with overproof rum in it. They have a rotating monthly cocktail and she tried the Tropic Like It's Hot (Coconut Washed Lemongrass Infused Rum, Mango, Lemon, Coconut Water, Amaro, $17) which was created by one of our bartenders Daniel. It was served in a Spam can and was light and refreshing with a nice pop of fruit at the start, and a very nice coconut flavor. We enjoyed sitting at the bar and had great conversation with our bartenders Daniel and Monica. They also provided excellent service. Broken Compass supports payment with the InKind app which gives you 20% back (10% on Friday and Saturday) in InKind cash. We had a really great time here, and the drinks, food, décor, and atmosphere were excellent. I purchased a Hork (Horse-shaRK) mug for $50 to bring home as a souvenir. We would definitely return again when in the area.

The drinks were the main reason you came, while the food was just an add-on. The prices were elevated, but you had a good menu selection of libations (nice local craft beer list) to choose from. The customer service was easy, friendly, and straightforward. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $42.00 BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...
