Very disappointed with our recent experience at Kabuki in Burbank. About three weeks ago, three of us ordered lunch from Kabuki, and unfortunately, all three of us were very, very disappointed. We were excited about lunch and had all agreed that Kabuki sounded like a great choice, but the food was incredibly bland and lacked seasoning. The chicken was extremely dry, and both the chicken and beef were essentially unseasoned. There was so little seasoning that the food was edible, but honestly, it was a huge disappointment. At first, I thought perhaps the reason the chicken and beef weren't seasoned was because they came with teriyaki sauce, but that wasn't the case. Even with the sauce, the meat itself was so bland that it really took away from the meal. What made the experience even more disappointing was what happened afterward. We submitted a complaint to the restaurant because we wanted them to know about our experience. I wasn't looking for a refund, a free meal, or anything else. I simply expected someone from the restaurant, especially the manager, to acknowledge the complaint, apologize, or perhaps explain that there had been an issue in the kitchen, a new chef, or something similar. We never heard anything back. Not even an acknowledgment that our complaint had been received. That was honestly just as disappointing as the food. A customer takes the time to share a legitimate concern, and the restaurant can't even respond? At the very least, I expected some sort of apology or acknowledgment. I want to be clear that I have always enjoyed going to Kabuki, and I love their sushi. I've never been disappointed with their sushi. This review is specifically about the chicken and beef lunch we received that day and, equally importantly, the lack of customer service afterward. Kabuki, please season your chicken and beef! A little salt and seasoning would go a long way. And if a customer takes the time to write a complaint, please take the time to respond. Stopped by here for dinner with my brother and was quickly served on this Wednesday evening. Looking over the menu, it was very diverse. I went with a Dragon roll and was shocked to get this dish with some presentation. They made into an actual dragon. On top of that it was pretty good. My brother got some literal fish and chips (sushi nachos?) and they were delicious. Also had a roll with cooked salmon on top that was good. Very chill place to have a casual dinner experience. Kabuki has a prime location in the center of downtown Burbank. There are various parking lots in the area which often time fill up and you have to park farther away. I've gone to kabuki a few times now to try several dishes. They have a great udon! I would be hesitant to order the sushi again. Though the presentation is nice, it did not taste very fresh and I did get a tummy ache. I also asked for no wasabi and California roll, but there was wasabi on the fish and I was given a spicy tuna roll instead. Beef teriyaki is good. Both the sushi and beef teriyaki were supposed to come with a miso soup and salad. This did not come, and when I asked the server for the soup and salad, he only brought one of each out and never brought out the other soup and salad. He also disappeared a lot. The ambiance is pleasant and noise level is high. I enjoyed the sake and the Rainbow Roll was okay but the presentation needs some work. Our tool didn't look that appealing in my humble opinion. Happy hour prices here are amazing! And the parking situation is a dream. Tons of available spots in the two free public parking structures located steps away from the restaurant. Lovely area of downtown Burbank too. We sat in the outdoor patio since we had my little dog with us. It is a nice enough decently sized patio. I've frequented Kabuki over the years whenever I've roamed around Burbank (which is quite often). I can't believe I haven't reviewed it yet, but better late than never! Located at the corner of N San Fernando Blvd & E Orange Grove Ave, there's an abundance of parking garages and street parking nearby so don't even sweat it. It gets busy at nights and on the weekends, so if you're wanting to go during non-peak hours, try weekday afternoons. All the sushi we've tried has been good as has the regular dishes. Our go-to is either the California Roll, the Spicy Tuna Roll, the Vegas Roll, the Dynamite Roll, or the Chicken Teriyaki. You honestly can't go wrong with any choice as there's something for every picky eater. There's quite the selection of drinks if you're looking to wet your beak. They have daily happy hours to get the most bang for your buck. Mon-Fri it's from 3PM-6PM, Sat-Sun it's from 2PM-5PM. For late night, Sun-Thurs is 8:30PM-close and Fri-Sat is 9PM-close. Corkage per bottle of sake/wine is $25. Daily lunch specials are from 11AM-4PM. If you're wandering around downtown Burbank, Kabuki is a good place to unwind and make some memories. For happy hour sushi in this area, I would choose Octopus over this place. The sushi at Kabuki never tastes fresh. For example, today I stopped by to get a take out order because it was the quickest option on my way home from work. I got an order of their rainbow roll, which is supposed to be varieties of fresh fish on top of a California roll. The California roll they put it on was like half the size you would normally get of that roll, and had hardly any rice on it/ the outside of it. It was near the restrooms but the privacy was enough. The food was delicious, nothing to complain about. The rolls were tasty and filling. I have been going to kabukis all around the area and I'm usually always satisfied. The only thing that went wrong was when it came down to paying the bill. From the very beginning we asked our server if she could split the bills and she said she would do it at the end. Ok... so the end came and boy did we send her back to reprint them over and over because she kept messing up. We even marked our receipts so she could get it correct. But nothing. She kept bringing them back wrong. In the end I ended up paying for food that wasnt mine, and just worked it out with the person. I was extremely disappointed by how I was treated as a new mother, as the manager repeatedly demanded that I move my stroller and carry my 4-month-old baby instead while also refusing to bring us a high chair and repeatedly insisting that the stroller was a fire hazard even after we were moved to another table. His behavior made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome, especially because whenever my baby cried, he would repeatedly walk by our table, which felt very judgmental and added to an already emotional experience. I was disappointed by my order of sukiyaki for birthday dinner. The broth was under seasoned, I had to ask the waitress for additional mirin (Japanese seasoned rice wine) to make it more palatable. In addition the mushrooms were the cheap button mushrooms instead of shiitake mushrooms. They supplied one shiitake on the side. Shiitake mushrooms are more flavorful and are traditionally used in this dish. The salmon skin hand roll was served open faced, not cone shaped, and seemed to be missing veggies. My wife said her yakisoba was under seasoned. Nice birthday ice cream served at conclusion of the dinner. The service was good, so no complaints there.
