The food was okay. The place was cute, clean. They had a couple of tables outside. The service was great.

(Dined 10/28/2022 FR @ 1:30pm): Literally... sushi dake ("only")! I've driven by Sushi Dake countless times and always said to myself, "I need to try this place out". That day finally came on this "no-meat Friday" when a friend was in town for work, so we decided to have lunch together and simply caught up with each other. I could easily eat sushi every day which would become an expensive habit. Was this long-time coming worth it!? PURCHASE Dry Asahi Beer 12floz Bottle ($5.95 x2): My friend opted for multiple smaller bottles instead of one large one. Dry Asahi Beer 21floz Bottle ($8.95): It was always a custom for me to drink a Japanese beer with my sushi whether it be Kirin, Sapporo, or in this case Asahi - kanpai https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=QZoMBAVMMYFhTBkOlOskOQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! 2pc Tuna Sushi ($7.50): Fresh, meaty, and soft, this was tasty but a tad on the small size. Blue Crab Hand Roll ($9.95 x2): Filled with lots of crab, rice, and a smidgen of avocado all wrapped in a light soy paper, the crab was a tad dry and I wasn't a fan of the soy paper. Spicy Scallop Hand Roll ($9.50): Plenty of seasoned tiny scallop balls with barely a hint of spiciness and rice wrapped in seaweed, I enjoyed it but it needed more heat https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Yqf_HjuY_iy-qGMfhICPwg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! 6pc Popper Cut Roll ($11.95): A deep-fried roll of spicy tuna, jalapeño, and cream cheese, this sushi-fied American bar food was surprisingly yummy along with its big portion size which made up for the only 6 pieces https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=fmdEMGADRsKdczBWv9NqeA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. 8pc Rock N Roll Cut Roll ($14.95): Spicy California roll topped with spicy albacore, crispy onions, and a garlic ponzu sauce, this was a lovely roll with good portion size and noticeable spiciness this time https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=JfQNzxjvilt8VwntrBpVJQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. 8pc Baja Fresh Cut Roll ($16.95): Yellowtail, jalapeño, spicy tuna, cilantro, and avocado, this Mexican-inspired roll was magnificent and full of spiciness https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=OLLb45OBM4ET37A2EpEgog&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. SERVICE Immediately greeted by both a gentleman behind the bar order counter and a hostess, we asked to sit outside on the front patio, we ordered beer which came out quickly along with two glasses of water, and were given a quick paper menu to place our order https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=qCqkK8wwrXAffrEMbeaYLg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. All the food came out at the same time a little more than 10 minutes later. After that, we were good to go until it was time for the check. Our water glasses were filled up a couple times and all was good - arigato! PARKING (FREE) They shared a medium-sized lot with a variety of small businesses in addition to separate lots for McDonalds and CVS, respectively (park in these two lots at your own risk). Otherwise, there seemed to be plenty of spots along the main drags of Verdugo and Olive Aves. - nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A snug floorplan inside with a handful of booths and tables along one wall and front of house while the rest of the space was used for the order counter bar where you watched the chefs do their work. Minimal decorations covered the walls. As for the exterior, there were also a handful of tables/chairs. Inside, minimal natural lighting came through the covered & tinted front glass windows and door while dim electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. Outside, there was plenty of natural lighting. There was one muted TV while pop music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=qqG9jEeV5s_Rrvo93OoM8Q&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Sushi Dake was a rousing success and would definitely return! The food was great, the prices affordable, menu selection nicely varied, and the service was sufficient enough. Generally speaking, I couldn't find any serious issues. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $112.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

Parking: Large open lot in the plaza where Sushi Dake is. Food: Pretty wide variety of speciality and basic rolls. Price point is on the more affordable side, in my experience of eating at sushi places. Most specialty rolls were average $15 and basic rolls were average $8. Ambiance/Service: Well decorated, clean, and cozy! Was seated super quickly around 8pm and ordering process was quite easy (write on a slip of paper). Servers were so quick and kind to answer questions about the menu items.

My favorite local quality Japanese food place. The price of good sushi went up so much, but not here. You can find fresh, good quality sushi and rolls at a reasonable price. Definitely would come back again.

I decided to treat myself to something nice and it was absolutely worth it. The fish was as fresh as it gets and absolutely delicious paired with the recommended beer and miso soup. The server and host were wonderful to be around and treated me very well. The environment was very welcoming and a nice place to eat. Order Sushi: Yellowtail, Mackerel, Uni, and Unagi Drink: Kirin Ichiban, Water Side: Miso Soup Total: $53 + Tip

Cool & chill, but not completely "lazy bum" vibes. Like, don't come in wearing your pajamas. You could, but why would you do that? I appreciate the darker ambience lit up by the rather groovy neon + purple & dark blue lights. A great, chill date spot, or a relaxed restaurant for sushi aficionados. The fish is incredibly fresh. I especially like that they have a number of selections that I have never seen at other similar style upper-class sushi restaurants. An unexpected pleasant bonus is that a beer is included for only $1 when you order a bottle of Soju. Do yourself a favor: make sure to get rolls that include a variety of fish. Don't get similar rolls with the same protein. Snow Crab Cut Roll - 9.0 / 10 Baked real snow crab = inside Wrapped with soybean paper, house special bake sauce. You have to give major props when a sushi restaurant includes a roll with *real* snow crab legs. None of that fake crab stick / surimi. I wish more places could include real snow crab. The soybean paper is always a nice alternative to the more traditional seaweed wrapper. Forbidden Roll - 8.9 / 10 Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cucumber = Inside Topped with fresh salmon, crunch flakes, crab meat, eel sauce, & spicy mayo. If you were only going to get 1 sushi roll, it should be this one. It has the most variety of proteins in 1, single roll. It's not chaotic where the flavors & textures don't make sense. It works & I would gladly get this roll again. Salmon Spicy Scallop - 7.5 / 10 Spicy Scallop = inside Topped with fresh salmon. If you like scallops & salmon, this is a solid choice. Fresh Heaven - 5.7 / 10 3 Assorted fresh fish, crab meat, gobo, radish, + avocado = inside. Wrapped w/ cucumber, oriental goma sauce. The most aesthetically beautiful dish that we ordered, especially with the cucumber garnish + lovely flower. It's nice to know that cucumber can be used to wrap sushi. But it throws off the texture. Maybe it I was on a stricter diet, I may opt for a cucumber-wrapped roll. The fish was incredibly fish. Huge shout-out to Sydney P. + Charles for their warm + personable hospitality. I would happily come back because of Fujiya's unique sushi rolls, but the staff's personality is such a winner. They're truly welcoming & take great pride + pleasure in what they do. I don't blame them. Fujiya is a cool, hip, & swanky (in the best possible way) Izakaya, but it's also not pretentious. The staff here want you to have a lovely dining experience with some innovative takes on some classic sushi rolls.

We thought, why not? We were sat immediately and decided to browse their happy hour menu. Buy one get one for $1 on beers and a nice selection of appetizers and rolls with reduced pricing. We ordered a lot - garlic edamame, agedashi chicken, their cucumber (sunomono) salad, a red dragon roll, a spicy tuna roll, a salmon roll, and their yellowtail roll. Everything was delicious. The cucumber salad was so lovely and refreshing that we went ahead and ordered a second serving. The edamame was seasoned nicely, the chicken was juicy and fried perfectly, and all the rolls were awesome. You'd think after all that food we'd be all done... but no. Ordered one more salmon and red dragon roll. So, two beers, 6 rolls, 4 appetizers and the bill still came up under $100. Needless to say, we'll be back. Service was friendly. Unfortunately, one of the plates we were given was still stained with food, which honestly should have been an immediate red flag. I ordered the Crab Zanmai Combination Plate. From what I could tell, it included a baked crab hand roll, 2 pieces of baked crab sushi, an 8-piece California roll, a soft shell crab roll, and 1 piece of fried soft shell crab. I'm kind of guessing on the exact contents because I couldn't find an actual description on either the menu or the restaurant's website. The soft shell crab was easily the best part of the combo, although that's admittedly a pretty low bar. The hand roll and baked crab pieces were passable. The California roll was more akin to something you'd find in a Ralph's grocery store sushi section than at an actual sushi restaurant. I also had the unfortunate experience of trying the salmon skin roll. The salmon skin may as well have been jerky. It didn't have that light crispness, but was extremely tough and not enjoyable at all. Definitely would pass on that. For basically $30 for this combo, I honestly think you're better off going to an actual sushi restaurant like Aikan. SushiStop is probably fine if you just want quick, cheap sushi, but if you're looking for a meal you'll genuinely enjoy, I'd probably recommend going elsewhere.
