So very sad to learn that this wonderful Burbank Japanese Restaurant is permanently closed!!! We came here for many, many years!!! The food was outstanding and reasonable because of their Happy Hour which lasted a long time in terms of hours. I am just giving it one star because it is permanently closed and my family and I were regulars and loved Zono Sushi in Burbank. It was close to Macy's, the Burbank Center and Barnes and Noble. We also knew a lot of the excellent servers who now no longer have jobs and the sushi chef. They were incredibly friendly and courteous!!! Even the huge combo bento boxes on the weekends were very inexpensive for the amount of Japanese cuisine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The ambiance was perfect for anyone loving sports: especially the Dodgers or basketball. I hope other restaurants can be like Zono Sushi Restaurant in Burbank. Having passed by this place more times in the past decade plus that I can recall, finally decided to try this place for lunch on a weekend. There were a couple tables already seated and just one waitress who was hustling to ensure everyone was taken care of. They could probably use a bit more staff since was probably tough for her to handle both sides of the restaurant. They had lunch specials which were similar to combo bento boxes at other Japanese locales. Sadly, I would not recommend. The teriyaki chicken was over cooked and very tough, and maybe even freezer burned. The teriyaki sauce did not help as the chicken did not seem marinated before grilling it into rubber. The sesame chicken was pretty bland as well and lukewarm. The gyoza was probably the best part of the lunch special along with the salad. Even the rolls we got were pretty bland so I'm not sure if it was just an off day or if things had seriously gone downhill as always used to hear good things about this place from friends over the years. And the place has to be better than this to have survived in Burbank this long while many restaurants have had to close their doors. Maybe I'll give this another try in the future, though I will say this place is a pass for lunch definitely. read more

The service is always good, sometimes the servers can get caught up with many tables but I understand. They have 2 TVs by the bar but it never gets too loud. I frequent this restaurant a lot more now than I did at the time of my first review. I come here with a group as small as 3 guests and as many as 8 guests. A table is always available, I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes (give or take). There is a back room with tables and booths, better for large parties. The front of the restaurant is lined with booths and a bar. Restrooms are available for customers. There are no stairs so this place is handicap accessible. The staff always greets you as you walk in. Always very kind and on top of everything. Service is fast but never rushed. The noise level is pretty quiet with conversation going on between other diners. If you want some selection to your meal I would suggest the lunch/dinner special. It comes with miso soup, small salad, California roll pieces, fried cream cheese wanton, fried potsticker and two items off the specials menu. Just the right amount of food. Ingredients are always fresh and cooked perfectly. If you have a hankering for some rolls the menu is extensive. They are great with customization if you need to remove or would like to add an ingredient. (21+) Try some sake. Always comes cool and is fun to share with some friends. My favorite item on the menu is the beef bulgogi and garlic edamame (it's packed with garlic). read more

Checked this place out on Saturday, i enjoyed the crunch roll and the California roll that came with the meal. The lunch special was great, we tried their chicken teriyaki and the beef teriyaki meal. Absolutely love Zono Sushi and have been coming to this restaurant since I was a child. I love the dinner combo plate where you can choose two items and it comes with rice, soup, salad and more. I also love their Philadelphia rolls. Everything is so fresh! Staff is always friendly and sweet. It's connected to a free parking lot and since ikea closed the parking lot is always very empty. The food is very good here. They seem to be very busy which is a good sign. My only issue was that the second time we went, they just don't have enough staff and there are long waits for our plates, food, etc. They need to consider hiring more staff maybe or just checking in on the patrons more. Great lunch specials but we ended up just sharing a few rolls, the garlic edamame and the shishito peppers. They have happy hour during lunch as well, which includes Sapporo and Kirin beer! I got the Kirin Light, small and my coworkers shared a large Kirin. We also shared the BSC roll on HH, an albacore on the wall special, the dragon roll (not on special but delicious regardless). Food came out fast and was delicious! The shishito peppers were battered, which I'm not used to but it was yummo! Can't go wrong with garlic edamame either. We walked in to an empty dining room (better for our social distancing concerns) and were immediately hit by the heatwave coming from inside the sushi bar area. We asked for a booth near the air conditioning in the next room and were quick to take advantage of the happy hour specials. We ordered a few things here and there and dove in a quick as it came out (we were starving from helping a friend move all day). Everything we ordered was tasty and fresh and we were glad to itch our sushi cravings that day. Zono Sushi Burbank was on DoorDash, but the order was delivered from somewhere in Glendale. Delivery was contactless. Only because I was washing clothes and occupied at the moment. So I couldn't even peek at the deliveryman... Lolz. It looked like some soy sauce containers made a mess... In the bag and on my tablecloth. So, I had to clean up before eating. Lunch was okay. My sexy roll was just tuna instead of spicy tuna. However, the pollack (aka imitation crab came mixed spicy. I ordered a riceless roll, but they forgot to add seaweed paper or soy paper. They wrapped it in thinly sliced cucumber. Cucumber with avocado and fish worked nicely together. And my garlic edamame was doused in a soy sauce, oil and garlic blend which was messy. Fresh. Tasty. Dinner looked good. I forgot ask for teriyaki sauce on the side. The salmon are two thin filets probably 4oz. And the tofu's a favorite. It'll do just fine. Protein-packed day. I'm very sad to say that my boyfriend and I will not be coming back here. It used to be our go-to spot for the good food and great prices, but our experience last weekend ruined it for us. Partway through our meal, we noticed that the unmasked chef kept coughing. Three days later, we both came down with Covid. We know it was because of him because we had literally gone nowhere else for the entire week. If they are so lax about food safety that they allow their chef to cough his Covid all over the food, then I don't even want to think about what other corners they're cutting. The overall sushi menu was fairly minimal - but they had interesting rolls. We ordered a crunch roll with soy paper and the Glendale roll. My friends/family have been coming to Zono sushi in Burbank for a long time now, but today was the last straw. We tried our best to support this local business, but the quality of the food has really gone down hill. Ever since IKEA moved, Hooters closed, this place has just not been the same. The parking structure is literally a dead zone, and being used for Tesla vehicle storage. The last time we ate here though, it was truly awful. The salmon in my Bento box was over cooked, and the vegetable tempura was sliced so paper thin, you could barely taste the vegetable. After eating here, me and my friends all got food poisoning, and we're all on the toilet for quite some time. Thanks for the memories Zono Sushi, but we may never come back. read more

They also have the best baked mussels I've ever tried. They have this sauce called "miso dressing", it's basically their miso salad dressing but I have to tell you, it's delicious to eat with your sushi!!
